ummm....i understand.......2003-11-17
Any one that hates Tennessee is just plain ole jealous. Tennessee is such a powerhouse its understandable that people like you hate Tennessee. I see...I see... You are from or for Alabama. Well that explains everything now. I totally understand your hatred for Tennessee. Hey maybe next year. You think. GO VOLS!!!!!!!
And I'm Sure UT Hates U2.......2003-09-28
This self-loathing Vol must be considered the Roy Cohn of the SEC. Except he's balder.
He wrote 2 "I hate alabama volumes!".......2003-07-03
Just thought you all would like to know that paul wrote 2 volumes of I hate alabama,303 reasons why you should. I live in the big joke ,trash-a-bama and the mullets and gave away tickets to the battles in the ghetto get me tickled. I don't really care about any of it,but could we in scank-a-bama give stand up comedians any more ammo?

Being that Mr Finebaum is a sports columnist in Alabama, I'm not at all surprised that he would write a imflamatory book about 'THE MIGHTY VOLS". Mr. Finebaum and all the rest of the Alabama fans are just getting tired of getting beat by the VOLS. The fact of the matter that ALABAMA WILL NEVER HAVE ANOTHER BEAR BRYANT.

Customer Reviews:
Wonderful selection of music.......2007-02-01
Bought this at a university bookstore some years ago (6 CDs). Wonderful selection of music (and some accompanying paintings) from early music like chant to the weird modern experimental art stuff.
A good introductory text.......2002-07-19
I have had this book prescribed as a textbook for a music history and theory course. This is a good book for such a purpose, it covers much. (This review is on the third edition).
Unit I has 5 chapters covering the fundamentals of musical theory. Sound, time, pitch, structure, form and style. Unit II is a 4-chapter overview of early music, starting with the Middle Ages. Unit III covers the 18th century in 6 chapters, starting with Late Baroque. Unit IV focuses on the 19th century, starting with Beethoven and finishing with the Late Romantics in 5 chapters.
Unit V: The Twentieth Century, was my favourite section. The prelude chapter discusses the concepts of music and modernism. The next chapter covers the early 20th century, then there is a chapter on alternatives to modernism, and the fourth chapter covers the late 20the century. Chapter 24 focuses on music in America: Jazz.
The book is organised around listening samples. These are available on a set of a 6 accompanying CDs. I liked the samples chosen. The late 20th century chapter, for example, discussed works by Ligeti, Berio, Varese, Cage, Crumb, Leon, Gubaidulina and Reich.
An alternative to "Listen" is Music: An appreciation" by Roger Kamien. It seems to me to have a bit more on artistic context, whilst at the same time covering more topics at slightly more depth.
However, "Listen" is well organised (always a good sign), and richly illustrated. Historical events are touched upon, and there is some reference to other art forms in context with the music of the time. I would recommend it as an introductory text even if you don't need to read it for school. Of course a book like this can cover topics only to a limited depth.
You Will Find It More and More Interesting.......2000-08-29
With the accompanied 6 CDs, Joseph Kerman has written one of the most interesting and comprehensive introductory music text. Not so much a memory-and-fact type of textbook, Kerman's uncanny ability to describe music experience has made this a success. Students do not need musicianship prerequisite to read this book. From ancient to modern, the book gives a broad overview of some of the masterpieces with insights and explanations. Excellent reading. (Note: The 6 CD set mentioned in this review is sold separately, and is not included in the price of the book. -Ed.)
comprehensive history of Western music.......2000-05-28
This book makes learning about music interesting and fun. It begins talking about basic structures of music (rhythm, harmony, tonality, etc.) but mostly follows the history of recorded music starting from the Middle Ages through Baroque to Jazz. It does a good job relating the development of music to other artistic developments of the time, like painting and architecture. With the CD you can listen right along and learn a lot of interesting things about music a novice like me had never thought about before.

Book Description
This book collects together the entire shooting scripts for the first series. Seven of the scripts are by Russell T. Davies, with the remainder by Steven Moffat, Robert Shearman, Paul Cornell and The League of Gentlemen's Mark Gatiss. Each story contains the essential ingredients of time travel, adventure, and the mixing of the ordinary with the fantastical that have always characterized the series, while at the same time being thoroughly in tune with contemporary culture and society. This is a Doctor Who for an age defined by irony, technology, celebrity, and the shadow cast by 9/11. It is also a more cinematic series, with fast cutting and special effects that will satisfy viewers brought up on contemporary film and television sci-fi.
Customer Reviews:
In a word, Fantastic!.......2006-06-29
This book is a great resource for the first series of new Doctor Who starring Christopher Ecclestone. It includes the shooting scripts for all 13 episodes so some scenes aired are in a different order or are shorter than in the script book but the scripts are essentially what was aired on screen. Each script is accompanied by a short editorial by the scriptwriter and excellent selection of photos from the aired episode. If you want to explore television script format or follow the script while watching your DVDs, this is the book for you. A must for Doctor Who fans!
Nice resource, solid book.......2006-03-22
Shooting scripts, plus nice pictures plus episode commentary.
Very well put together.
If you like this sort of thing........2006-02-04
A nicely presented book, but at the end of the day it's essentially just what you've already seen on the tv screen. However if you want to dip in and learn how to structure a script i'm sure it gives good information. It's interesting though to see how everything is put together.
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!! Some of the Best Writing in Dr. Who History!.......2005-12-05
Dr. Who is Forty (actually he's 900, but like the Doctor, the show had been around in one form or another since 1964). During March and through June the BBC celebrated by bringing the show back to television for its 27th season (or as it is more consistently called: SEASON ONE)in a glossy, fast-paced enough to satisfy contemporary audiences, while still conscious of its roots. This hardback book contains all 13 season one scripts for the 2005 rebirth of the longest running sci-fi series in TV history. Seven of these scripts are by Russell T. Davies, with the remaining 6 by Steven Moffat, Robert Shearman, Paul Cornell and Mark Gatiss. Each provides an insightful intro for their scripts revealing their inspirations and changes they had to make to bringing the stories to screen. These writers clearly have a respect and understanding of the UK icon, which evident in Davies' final remarks:
"There are some people in the TV industry who have asked archly, why I'm now writing genre, instead of drama. Obviously, they've never watch a single episode of Doctor Who. It's the best drama in the world."
Doctor Who has always has a voice defined by the decade each in tune with its era and this holds true to the new Doctor Who. This Doctor is almost child-like in his enthusiasm and wonder. Featuring the Doctor as played by Christopher Eccleston, infusing the character with great humanity, while remaining mysterious and alien, along with his companion Rose played by Billie Piper, growing from an awed slacker to a seasoned space adventurer. However, the format of the show has changed to 45 min. parts, some ending with cliffhangers, some without. It contains explanatory notes on the scriptwriting process, giving a unique insight into how the writers visualized their stories and OVER a THOUSAND PHOTOS from the 2005 season. This book has an attractive cover and interior graphics are nice. But MORE importantly the collection gives fans an insider's look at how the show works. But. EVEN more importantly, with the absence of the old Target Books episode by episode TV-tie-ins, this is the one of the few ways for AMERICAN fans see the NEW SERIES before the region 1 DVD release (watch AMAZON.CO.CA in February

In "WORLD WAR III" the "Aliens of London" continues...

In "DALEK" Beneath the Salt Plains of Utah, the billionaire collector Henry Van Statten holds the last relic of an alien race and the one living exhibit in the museum is a....you know what.

In "THE LONG GAME" the Doctor takes another new compainon to the far future...

as a criminal.

MARGARET: What did I ever do to you?
DOCTOR: You tried to kill me and destroy this entire planet.

In the 12th episode, BAD WOLF, the Doctor, Rose and Captain Jack have to fight for their lives on board the Game Station, in the season finale, THE PARTING of the WAYS, Rose Tyler has seen danger and wonders alongside the Doctor, but now their friendship is put to the test and the Doctor says goodbye...sort of...
DOCTOR: ROSE...you were FANTASTIC. ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC...and'd you know what? SO WAS I.
Hip, Hip Who-ray.......2005-12-04
Doctor Who is back! Unfortunately, we will have to wait for the video version to be shown on our American television screens (or even released on Region 1 DVDs). But in the meantime we have this WONDERFUL book to see us through. All thirteen adventures of the Ninth Doctor Who are represented here in script form from "ROSE" to "THE PARTING OF THE WAYS" and each script is peppered with a generous serving of excellent photographs from the show to help the reader visualize what is going on.
The book is easy to read and well worth the price. If you are a Doctor Who fan, you can't afford to pass this little gem up.

Customer Reviews:
Promise Unfulfilled.......2006-09-13
Hullfish and Fowler offer a lot of good information in their book "Avid Xpress Pro Editing Workshop", but they also squeeze in far too many attempts to make the book "entertaining". Instead of teaching you in some kind of happy-go-lucky way, their jokes, quips and quirks sidetrack and ultimately frustrate you. And while you get the sense that these guys are terrifically experienced editors with lots of tricks up their sleeves, you don't perform those tricks yourself because the DVD-ROM in the back of the book doesn't include much of a tutorial at all, just some groovy little settings that you can copy.
Unfortunately, the book is not organized as a quick reference, nor is it designed as a true "workshop"--as the title advertises. In fact, the only real work you do is wading through black and white text while you seek out those instructive hands-on lessons that never quite materialize.
While the authors offer loads of terrific information, the book doesn't fulfill the title's promise.
Worth the price the first day.......2006-02-24
Great book for the way I learn. I don't like reading from front to back and with AVID being my new editing platform, I needed a book that would allow me to jump to what I was interested in at the time. Hullfish's book allows me to find answers that are not obvious in the regular 'help' menus of the software. This book paid for itself within 1 day after it arrived.
