Guy's I must say being not only a fan but a student of Skynyrd for years I was amazed to read about so many things I didn't already know. Mr. Ballanger through quotes from the people who knew the guy's best has really touched on their private lives. I really enjoyed reading what Tom Dowd had to say about Ronnie. The book is in an easy to read format and is hard to put down. It's a must read for any Skynyrd fan.

The book if full of quote of both LS members and people who were around them in their heyday for one reason or another. It also features some nice photos. When you get to Ronnie's reaction to the announced crash landing, you're left to decide whether version to believe - Gene Odom's or Artimus'. I tend to believe the former's.

I've read Brant's book and this one. In addition, I visited all the relavent web sites I can find including www.skynyrd.com and Ed King's web site. Ballinger's book is very good. It's readable and is built on many resources. Brant's book is almost painful to read but compliments this one very well. After all the reading I have done I have come to the conclusion that we will never know all the facts surrounding this great band. There are just too many contradictions amongst all the accounts. However, Ballinger does a good job of presenting what is probably the most factual information available. This is a must read for all LS fanatics and recommended for anyone else who is interested in the history of Rock and Roll.

Lynyrd Skynyrd: An Oral History by Lee Ballinger (West Coast Editor of "Rock & Rap Confidential") is a unique and informative history of the Lynyrd Skynyrd rock-n-roll band as seen through the eyes and told in quotes of the people who were around them before, during, and after their sometimes legendary performances -- as well as the 1977 plan crash that killed almost half of the original band. Consisting entirely of quotes and brief vignettes by different people concerning various topics and performances concerning the band, Lynyrd Skynyrd is highly readable, fascinating to flip through, distinctive in its presentation, and highly recommended reading for rock 'n roll enthusiasts in general, and the legions of Lynyrd Skynyrd fans in particular.

The return of the William Tell Overture.......2005-05-01

Everyone thinks of the Lone Ranger when they hear the William Tell Overture, but that long-running radio show used lots of other classical music, and other music including some from a 1938 movie serial about the masked man, during its long run and eventual move to television. Now readers can find out what all that music was, its sources, and how it wound up in a western adventure show. The author has done yeoman research in recreating this history of a radio classic.

Delightful musical archaeology.......2003-10-24

This book is a quite pleasant surprise. It's written in a folksy, conversational style, befitting its less-than-earthshaking subject. However, Jones' research into the origins of the Lone Ranger Mood Music Library seems of consistently high caliber. His encyclopedic knowledge of the romantic composers rivals that of the dedicated staff that assembled this wonderful conglomeration of memorable themes which introduced so many young people (including me) to the magical world of classical music.

An added bonus is the insider's view of the epic 1940's battle between ASCAP and BMI. That struggle nearly deprived us of a large part of America's musical heritage. The current controversy over unauthorized music downloads seems trivial by comparison.

A Must-Have Book for Lone Ranger Fans and Scholars.......2002-05-16

Microsoft has really got a winner on its hands with this book. Its perfect for anyone who's starting a small business and needs a high-level overview of what to do next. Sure, the book steers you into Microsoft-centric software solutions. But, once you understand the concepts, you can complete the tasks with the software of your choice.

I found this book to be great for the "first time" inexperienced Small Business starter. It is full of practical tips and examples. The web links it provides to informative websites saves alot of time on research.

This is a good book. It's one of the most current books about business planning out there and I recommend it for every wanna-be business owner.

However, the only reason that I couldn't give it a 5-Star rating is because of the price. It's not worth the listed $49.99....it's not even a hard-back edition!

So my suggestion for you to follow my lead and order the book used through amazon.com and save yourself at least $30. Then you will be happy.

This book is absolutely useless. It only provided information normally found in a sales brouchure. There was no technical content. It only told you what you could do with SBS, not actually how to do it.

No Substance!.......2003-06-15

This book has no substance at all. It lists features but explains just about nothing you may be trying to research. The book feels like a collection of headlines (including oversize fonts to fill the pages). Whenever you think you may be approaching an answer, it refers to the ominous "technology consultant". Even Microsoft's sales literature is significantly more useful than this "Resource Kit". Don't buy it even if you can't find anything else. At a minimum, make sure your book seller has a no-questions-asked return policy.

Book best for design and planning ->manage your expectations.......2002-10-23

This book was written with SBS design and planning in mind first and foremost.

If this book is purchased up front and used early in the SBS life cycle then you will find it excellent and it will meet your needs. You will especially benefit from this book if you are new to SBS and unfamilar with SBS branding matters such as structured setup and deployment, console-based management, etc.

If your expectations were for the book to be a downstream technical troubleshooting manual, you need to consider using Microsoft TechNet for the latest KBase articles related to SBS or newgroups such as the Yahoo! SBS Group.

Note that this book does not discuss third-party SBS products such as virus detection applications, and you'll need to look at other third-party Small Business Server 2000 books that are on the market for that. These other SBS 2000 third-party books do more step-by-step deployment and administration than the SBS 2000 Resource Kit, so again, manage your expectations accordingly and you'll be pleased with this book.

I have finished this book with only 2.5 days.
I feel very disapointed because this book mainly tell you what the features are avaliable in the Small Business Server 2000.
This book hasn't tell you how to use them, how to deploy them.

The style of the book is many titles in a chapter, but there is only a few words talking the title.
I feel that the author is saying like "There is Remote Access Service with SBS 2000. Then bye bye."

This book is too details for manager/decision maker, but not enough for administrator, so I don't know what this book for.

No Substance.......2001-09-27

I was expecting something similar to Office 2000 Resource Kit, a very good resource. but instead this book is not at all helpful for anyone who has never installed a server product before or been exposed to network issue decisions. Luckily I come from a Unix/Linux background and could understand the jargon and over emphasized subjects covered in this book. Active Directory is nothing more then an overblown address book (however, it is most useful) it's coverage is overdone in my opinion. Save your money and use the Server help documentation that comes with the product.

Collectively, the software and explanatory material are meant for systems integrators involved in putting together customized solutions based on BackOffice Small Business Server 4.5. SBS Consultant's Bible.......2000-10-27

This book is NOT for a network administrator, but it is a must-have for anybody who deploys and supports SBS installations. Covers just about everything except how to install and configuure RRAS to replace RAS. Apart from that it gives you a solid fundation on which to build your SBS expertise. Note Microsoft posted an errata on their Web site.

I wouldn't recommend this book.........2000-10-25

I purchased this book to be used as a reference book. I already had our SBS up and running (and even if I didn't, I don't think this book would have helped too much). The book goes on and on about the features of Small Business Server and how easy it is for the administrator to set up and maintain (the book does this for at least a hundred pages). I believe knowing about all of the features are important, but the book lacks in not showing the reader how to troubleshoot and inplement most of them. Some of the features that I was trying to implement were advanced but not out of the ordinary. This book didn't halp me at all.

I have read many text books in my days. I felt that this book was the worst purchase I have made in a long time. This book wouldn't be that bad if the reader was never going to set up the server, but wanted to know what the server could do.

This book is a must for IT professionals that have to implement SBS. It will help you especially if you need to modify SBS for your specific implementation, such as changing the default IP addresses, setting up routers, etc.
