Book Description
The Current Account and Foreign Debt argues that it is not alway true that current account deficits are intrinsically bad and in need of serious correction. John Pitchford analyzes a broad range of issues in support of this argument, discussing approaches to current account balance, short run issues, longer run issues and policy. This counterbalance to a common misapprehension in economic theory will be a valuable guide for all those interested in international monetary theory.

Book Description
This book traces the link between globalization and world migrations. In examining the expropriations of people's resources carried out through structural adjustment, it shows how migrant communities from various nations have used migration as a strategy to counter the forces of structural adjustments, and how, in doing so, they have created a vast network of transnational linkages. Colatrella further demonstrates how in the often neglected case of Italy, immigrant communties have inserted themselves into new forms of work and have become crucial workers in export production. In Italy, immigrants have also been engaged innovative struggles for a revival of the working class and leftist movements. After examining immigrant political activity in the context of the rise of the racist Northern League, the book ends with a discussion of the possibilities for a new planetary working class movement through immigrant experiences.
In his book, Colatrella counters pessimistic postmodern perspectives and gives a sweeping and visionary acccount of the opportunties for working class unity across national lines in this age of globalization.

Sure-fire advice for clearing the house of offspring!.......2001-12-03
Rich Melheim was a pastor at my church. My parents bought me this book (I have a signed copy!) and I took the hint! I haven't moved back home since... The illustrations are campy and humorous, the sugestions border on and often exceed the ludicrous, however these snippets of wisdom are a guaranteed recipe for success when it comes to ousting offspring that have over stayed their welcome (i.e. they now make more money than you). The advice also works well on house guest. One word of cautions: excercising the most extreme of these measures may result in extensive and costly therapy for your children!
Product Description
An anthology of some of the best recorder music from the early Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, Classic, and early Romantic periods. The music of historically well-known as well as lesser-known and obscure composers has been included. Solos, duets, some trios, and quartets from the various periods and schools (German, Italian, French, and English) have been chosen because of their musical content and charm, primarily, and because they illustrate they typify the musical values of the eras in which they were composed. In some instances, keys have been transposed, signature and bar lines have bee added. Separate movements, taken from sonatas and suites, have been included as well, in addition to some thematic material. The arrangements are primarily for the descant or soprano recorder. The alto, tenor and bass recorders are included, however, in duets, trios, and quartets. Phrasing the breath marks have been indicated for use at the player's discretion.

Nice but Beware, It's not for beginners.......2006-12-27
Nice recorder book, but the songs are a bit complicated for my little boy who knows how to read music. We don't even use it.
Book Description
In this national bestseller, acclaimed, award-winning psychologist Dr. David Walsh explains exactly what happens to the human brain on the path from childhood into adolescence and adulthood. Revealing the latest scientific findings in easy-to-understand terms, Dr. Walsh shows why moodiness, quickness to anger and to take risks, miscommunication, fatigue, territoriality, and other familiar teenage behavior problems are so common -- all are linked to physical changes and growth in the adolescent brain.
Why Do They Act That Way? is the first book to explain the changes in teens' brains and show parents how to use this information to understand, communicate with, and stay connected to their kids. Through real-life stories, Dr. Walsh makes sense of teenagers' many mystifying, annoying, and even outright dangerous behavioral difficulties and provides realistic solutions for dealing with everyday as well as severe challenges. Dr. Walsh's techniques include, among others: sample dialogues that help teens and parents talk civilly and constructively with each other, behavioral contracts, and Parental Survival Kits that provide practical advice for dealing with issues like curfews, disrespectful language and actions, and bullying. With this arsenal of strategies, parents can help their kids learn to control impulses, manage erratic behavior, cope with their changing bodies, and, in effect, develop a second brain.

Why Do They Act That Way?: A Survival Guide to the Adolescent Brain for You and Your Teen.......2007-01-18
We have found this book to be extremely helpful. Raising a teenager is an amazing experience and it helps to have some expert, non partial advice that is backed by research. We especially appreciated the fact that the author does not offer excuses, but helps everyone remain responsible for their behavior, including parents. It was so helpful for us that we bought it as a gift for two different families that are raising teenagers. It was passed on to us by another family that is raising teenagers. Parents are looking for sound instruction. This book provides great insight to what is really going on inside those mysterious heads.
Why do They Act This Way? A Survival Guide to the Adolescent Brain and Your Teen.......2006-10-29
David Walsh is very readable, has a strong sense of humor necessary to deal with the teen psyche, and speaks well to frustrated parents about why their kids do what they do, and how to look at from their perspective and then deal with it more effectively. It's a fun read.
Excellent ---A Must Have for ALL parents.......2005-11-04
Dr. Walsh must have known my son. I felt like he wrote this book for my family. His explanations were easily understood and very insightful, but, not an excuse for the teen's behavior. It was hard at times to put the book down. I really wish my parents had read this book.
Thank YOU, Dr. Walsh. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
M. Weedman, Merritt Island, FL
A must for an parent of an adolescent.......2005-07-19
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I read it in two sittings. There were so many good and funny examples of real life situations that as a parent of a teenager, one can relate to all too well.
The author is well informed and the information about the human brain development is critical to understanding how to connect and deal with you teenager.
Highly recommend to all.
Interesting, enlightening, and useful.......2005-07-17
I was a hard sell when given this book. I was concerned that it was going to offer One Big Excuse for sorry teen-age behavior. I was already seeing the headlines: Teen Not Guilty; It wasn't his fault; His PFC made him do it!
Instead, I learned a great deal from this book. I wish the science had been there years ago. Besides getting a peek into the seemingly unfathomable teen-age brain, Walsh gave valuable information about how to handle the problems that come up as a result of the difficult transition known as adolescence. I see this information not so much as an excuse for poor behavior as it is a guide to lead people away from it. I recommend this book to teachers or anyone who has a child younger than 25!

Book Description
Understanding teenagers
'Humorous and informative observations...giving the reader confidence in handling adolescent behaviour.'
--Steve Chalke, GMTV presenter
'Enlightening and helpful...provides many pointers to those who wish to improve their understanding of teenagers and the worlds they inhabit.'
--Prof. Roger Murphy, Dean of Faculty of Education, University
Concerned about teen drug-taking, pregnancies, and eating disorders? Baffled about what drives many teenagers to such behaviour? Worried that 'it must be my fault'?
This brilliantly enlightening book argues that understanding the culture in which teenagers are growing up is the key to understanding why some inflict tragedy upon themselves or others. Nick Pollard, a specialist in sixth-form moral and religious education, provides adults with invaluable insights to enable them to open doors of communication with teenagers and begin to influence them for good.

A great insight into teens.......2000-08-04
This book takes us from the past to the future to gain great insight to why teens are the way they are due to the world we live in today. It clearly shows their strong need for God and a great way to support them in surviving those rough years. Not only did my view on teens change, but my fear of working with teens became compassion, hope and inspiration.

A Tower in Babel.......2003-12-27
I first read this book when I was a student in TV back in the mid '70's. The stories behind the birth of modern media remain fascinating. I literally could not put the book down and went on to read the other two in Barnouw's trilogy. It was an incredible insight into the sometimes crazy world I was about to enter and I have never forgotten how riveted I was to every word!
If it ain't broke, don't fix it...necessarily.......2001-07-24
With the corporate takeovers and conglamirates flying wild, it's refreshing to be able to sit back and view what it was REALLY like in the 'pioneer' days. I was fortunate enough to get into radio while it was still fun and had a bit of a mystique to it. This book portrays how it started off as a science and caught on like wildfire. Unfortunately, today alot of the 'humanity' has been taken out and replaced by computers and satellites, but like Nickolodeon and TV Land, this book allows readers to see things as they WERE. Alot of good history for today's broadcasters and the curious.
The definitive study of broadcasting........1998-04-27
"Tower of Babel," along with its companion volumes, "The Golden Web" and "The Image Empire," are the most thorough accounting of the evolution of broadcasting. For the layman, it may be a bit too thorough, but for anyone who has a serious interest in broadcasting, it is a must-read. (I suggest that anyone who works in the industry read it as well, to get a perspective on what radio and television were designed to be.)
Customer Reviews:
How to make .NET database UIs that don't suck.......2004-10-14
I was initially surprised by the structure of this book. It starts with an introduction on user interface principles, then in goes into the mechanics of user interface implementation in .NET, then it veers into databases. This is where I thought I was lost, but actually it turns out that it's the anchor for the sections that follow, which show how how databases are linked to the UI and how that is done effectively. In this way I think the book is different than any other technology centric book on .NET user interfaces, which only cover the API portion of the problem.
On the whole I am impressed by this book. I think it takes a fresh look at the entire topic. In addition it's well written and not overly illustrated. It's a unique book, so I recommend a look before you buy, but I certainly recommend the look.
Fantastic discussion of UI development for WinForms projects.......2004-10-11
The one quality that makes this book a clear winner is the quality of the content and clarity of author Rebecca Riordan's writing. She uses a friendly, humorous, often bitingly sarcastic voice that eases the normal tension accompanying such a complex topic as UI design for Windows applications with .NET technologies. You'll appreciate this tone as Riordan takes you through some very challenging scenarios in developing winning desktop apps.
The main focus is on presentation tier technologies and techniques used to create great programs that customers will really enjoy using. The book starts out with five phenomenally-written chapters on GDI+, typography, color, and image programming that every developer working with .NET should read, whether they're examining UI design for desktop applications, or otherwise. It also includes a helpful glossary of development terms mentioned throughout the text that you'll enjoy and refer to often.
Riordan also attempts to demystify the many complexities of .NET databinding within Windows Forms. as do most Addison-Wesley texts, the book's physical properties are to be appreciated, using sturdy binding and thick paper, making the book close and sit easily after a session open on your lap (and who hasn't wrecked at least book doing so?).
The only downside to this book (and a minor one at that) is the exclusive presentation of code in Visual Basic .NET, which would make the book largely one-dimensional to programmers working with that language (or liberal minded C# readers). But programming language semantics aside, this is a real gem, and one you'll want to pickup for your WinForms team projects.
A Great Book for Windows Forms Developers........2004-09-10
Seeing Data: Designing User Interfaces for Database Systems Using .NET is an amazing book for anyone designing a user interface (UI) to allow users to display and edit data. It is very specifically focused on .NET WinForms development, however much of the information is useful for all developers.
Starting with coverage of the basics, like fonts, colors, etc., the book moves on to how to display and allow proper editing of various data types. This is very much a needed book, since the Microsoft User Interface standards book has not been updated since 1999. A lot has happened since 1999 in the Microsoft world, and the advice Rebecca offers comes from a lot of hard-won experience.
I do not do a great deal of Windows Forms development, but when I do, I will keep this book nearby.
UI with complex SQL data.......2004-08-22
A formidably detailed and comprehensive attack on the problem of user interfaces and data visualisation. Riordan tackles this in the context of Microsoft's .NET platform. Notice the two topics. There are books on pure UI design, for various operating systems. Nothing wrong with that. But they tend to concentrate on the strict visuals and how the user interacts with various widgets. Usually, any data to be displayed or modified is general and lacks much structure.
There are certainly elements of this approach here. Like where Riordan discusses the various properties of fonts and faces, or colours or different image types.
But she goes further. She shows how to make UIs customised for SQL data. To make your SQL Server easily accessible. A full workout. From using the widget families that come with .NET and hooking these all the way back to a SQL Server. In, for example, a four tier architecture. Unusual to see all this in one book. PLus, she makes VB seem very easy to design and program in.
