I have to give the company that compiled it a thumbs up for the packaging, anything beyond that gets a 1 out of 5.This item is basically a CD with internet websites on it that you have to spend weeks and months researching it yourself, no real research was ever done on their part other than provide internet sites to the government agencies that provide financial assistance. I recommend this product for people who don?t have access to the internet.

This disk is very broad and really doesn't give insite to receiving grant money. It also wasn't very easy to navigate though. I have found way more useful information from simply searching on the internet.

Ive been writing grants for some years now and thought that I could make my life easier by purchasing the CD set. When I recieved the 2004 Guide to Federal Grants, I was immensely disappointed. Instead of creating a useful, cross referenced CD, they simply took webpages and their links and transferred them directly into PDF format. I could have done the exact same thing using Google and Adobe Acrobat. There are no cross-references, no additional information into grants, and tabs were not even written into the PDF to assist with nagivation. Instead, they recommend that you use the "search" feature available with Adobe Reader. It is NOT worth paying their asking price, go to your local NonProfit Resource Center instead or just do a Google search for Federal NonProfit Grant Sites.

In the mid-19th century, Asian-Americans flocked to America and provided cheap immigrant labor. Their numbers grew so high and fast that several restrictive immigration laws were enacted, and were not eased until the mid-20th century. Since that time, Asian-Americans have consistently been cited as one of the fastest growing segments of the population and seem on the cusp of increased political activity and influence. Despite the rise in Asian-American citizens since the 1960s, however, there has not been a corresponding growth of political participation. Voter turnout is low, and the number of Asian-American representatives has lagged. However, Asian-Americans have often been notable political donors and campaign financiers, indicating a behind-the-scenes political influence. As the Asian population increases in the nation, so do the chances of their wielding wider impact on election results and the issues of importance nationally.
In order to understand the development of the Asian-American political bloc, this book discusses the history of Asian immigration and political participation. Using reports based on census data, the patterns of Asian-American behavior are assessed. No segment of American society can be ignored, and this book is necessary for coming to understand the implications of and history behind the political influence of a significant slice of the American pie.

Ok I've read this book unlike the two people that bash it. You can tell Nargus hann't read it because she handled the virgin question very tactfully! I loved it. This book is for young readers so it doesn't tell anything bad! In fact I wish now that BSB fans are older there would be a real book about what really went on! Anyway this book rocks and is a good read! Don't bash something you haven't read!

I haven't read this book and I most certainly do not plan on reading it. Samantha Stonebraker is a coniving, money-hungry insult to the beauty that is Brian Littrell. I can't believe that this woman would sink so low as to try to make a few dollars off of an ex's success. This personally to Samantha: You are sick and twisted and I seriously hope you get what you deserve for exploiting Brian and the rest of the guys. Get a life.

Actually, I give this zero stars, but it won't actually let me do that.
The first thing that I have to mention is that I have never read this book, and I never plan to. But I think that the concept is absolutley disgusting. The excerpt from the back of the book made me want to throw up. Which of them are still virgins? That's really personal, and she has no right to be writing a book about that. If she ever really cared about Brian, and the other BSB, she wouldn't be writing a book about their secrets. If you really are a true fan, you wouldn't buy this book so you could read about all of their secrets. You would not buy it, because it is a total invasion of their privacy.

As a professor in a community college, I love this book and think the format is so useful! But I am switching to a lower-priced one simply because our students can't afford it. The new edition, I am sure, is even more expensive. And buying a used one, you risk the near certainty of having an imcomplete book. Too bad.
So many ways to improve.......2001-12-10
(...) It is pretty straight forward and easy to understand, BUT there are no answers for the exercises in the back of the book. My professor never asked us to turn in exercises from this book so the exercises were useless since there was no knowing if you'd done them correctly. If there were answers in the back and a companion CD with examples I would keep the book, but now that my class is over I'm taking it back for 1/2 of what I paid for it and counting my losses.

The Professor speaks . . ........2004-01-21
Millions around the world know him only as "The Professor" on Gilligan's Island. However, before taking the role that would change his life, Russell Johnson was already an established actor in both film and television.
In this wonderful book, Johnson tells his life story in a modest and entertaining fashion. His good nature, and sense of fairness is evident throughout. The book covers Johnson's life as "Professor Roy Hinkley", his remembrances of the Gilligan's Island years, and thoughts about his fellow island castaways. The book has a multitude of terrific photos, many from behind the scenes. With nothing mean-spirited to say, this is a warm "feel good" read, that is over much too quickly.
There are many fascinating stories of interest to hardcore fans. Perhaps the most significant for the author, concerns the pilot episode. Shot in 1963, but never aired until 1992, the pilot featured different actors as The Professor, Ginger and Mary Ann. Circumstances led to the recasting of these roles with Johnson, Tina Louise and Dawn Wells.
Most fans know that the show's theme song was re-recorded for the second season to include "The Professor and Mary Ann". But in this book we learn that the musical group that performed the second version, later appeared on the program as the rock group "The Mosquitoes". Johnson devotes some time to the assortment of guest stars that visited the island, and the issue of censorship. Also covered are the post series years, and the events leading to the rescue movie, and other related Gilligan's Island projects. The "Ship's Log", a brief summary of the 98 episodes, concludes this thoroughly enjoyable book that all fans of the series will appreciate.

When I was growing up during the time this show was airing, one of the standard questions among my teenage friends was, who did you have a crush on, Ginger or Marianne? Interestingly, there was almost universal agreement that, although Ginger was hot, Marianne had that girl-next-door wholesomeness and sex appeal, and so she got the vote.
Almost 35 years later this same question came up at a lunch with a bunch of my work associates, most of whom are middle-aged computer geek types or engineers like me. The funny thing was, everybody agreed they still liked Marianne. I guess some things never change.
But after her, the Professor was my favorite character on the program, and years later, when I was a college instructor briefly myself, I attributed it at least partly to the example Russell Johnson set on this show, as silly as that might sound. That maybe, and the original Star Trek, which made science and technology glamorous and sexy and very ungeeklike.
Well, for all those who loved this show like I did and were in some way inspired to do something in their lives because of it, this book is full of great behind-the-scenes stories and trivia about every aspect of the show and characters. This book will be appreciated by all fans of this classic American 60's comedy series.

The Only GILLIGAN book you'll ever need!.......1998-07-18
Of the books on GILLIGAN this one stands head and shoulders above the rest. It's written by a pro who knows 60's TV (Steve Cox) and from an actor's viewpoint, which is a must. The other books are barely readable; this is a quick, fun read and one which is surprisingly moving. Worth the search for it and worth the wait to find. If you love the show, this is your book. Find it!

This comprehensive work is full of photos and interesting facts. A recommended reference for any fan.

He's got it right!.......2006-01-28
As a number of reviewers have indicated, this is not a recipe book for implementing Web Services/SOAs. Rather, Kaye provides a terrific overview of the proper way to approach Web Services/SOAs. He correctly eschews the use of object-to-object invocations through Web Services and instead evangelizes a true *service* model where services with well-defined interfaces are accessed - not object methods invoked.
Once he's made that important point, he identifies shortcomings or "missing pieces" in the current offerings (e.g. security, workflow) and offers insightful solutions or potential solutions.
A "must-read" for technology leaders and business leaders interested in SOAs implemented through Web Services.
A Random Walk Through Web Services.......2005-08-28
This book has been a tremendous disappointment, specially since most reviewers gave it 4 or 5 stars and I usually trust reviewers' opinions. Disclaimer: I'm a programmer, not a manager or a burocrat.
First of all it really bothered me to find so many mispellings. A simple spell check would not have hurt. Other spelled ohter, etc. If you didn't use a spell checker, what else did you forget with such a loose quality control policy?
Secondly the title of this book was clearly brainstormed AFTER it was written and is misleading. This book was written as "a random walk through web services", so they took the concept of loose coupling and stuck the phrase "loosely coupled" in randon paragraphs throughout the text. Of course web services are meant to be loosely coupled and it is practically impossible to write a tightly coupled web service. Loose coupling is the reason web services exist...so people don't need access to your source code or access to your company's internal workings to be able to use your services. Doug Kaye obviously didn't get it : web services were CREATED to allow loosely coupled distributed systems, but he writes as if loose coupling is a consequence of you reading his book... Which started bothering me already in the first few chapters.
Another appropriate title would have been "The Web Services Fake Book" - as in the Jazz fake books. With jazz fake books you sorta quickly learn an easy version of the song and then you can get by a gig by faking it, as if you knew all the songs, so you can make a quick buck not refusing a gig for songs you didn't know. With this book you will learn all the hot lingo and you will SOUND like a web services pro after reading it. But it's mostly theoretical and he forgets to use the word "supposedly" throughout the text.
Further criticizing the misleading title "the missing pieces of web services" - "the missing pieces" covered in this book make up a 3 PAGE CHAPTER!(Chapter 4) The index shows the chapter has 5 pages, 47 to 52, but the first and last are blank...LOL Which proves the title was created AFTER the book was written, obviously they just stuck a few short paragraphs about missing pieces there and bob's your uncle.
The author's pretension reaches a climax when he proposes web services be renamed "internet services" because, according to him, web services are not at all web-related. He seems to have forgotten that HTTP was created FOR the web, not the web for HTTP, and that web services are a revolution exactly because they use the existing HTTP infrastructure, which was created FOR THE WEB.
My personal conclusion: this book is 80% alchemy, 20% science and I could not get past page 192 feeling that I was wasting my time with it.
You WILL learn all the acronyms and sharp talk, but you will probably finish this book asking all the same questions(i didn't finish it, but I'm still asking myself all the same questions, specially "why did i buy this book?"), because as with every good burocrat this guy managed to fill 320 pages and not add very much to the discussion.

They say, that this book is mainly for executives and architects. That is not true. Even developers should read it, although it doesn't provide any API descriptions or howtos. The book describes how current systems and architectures have evolved to the Service Oriented form, as well as what does it actually mean for the real enterprise applications and environments. It is obvious, that the author knows what he is talking about, since he gives the reader a deep insight into the whole Web Services concept, raising issues and problems the world of WS is facing now (orchestration, asynchronous web services etc). Doug Kaye is well known guy in the industry and he is able to express concepts and ideas as only a few of the others do. Web services/SOA is currently on the peak of hype, a lot of has been written about this topic. Some writings are usefull, some are just empty talking without the point. This is not the case. Read it, if you want to get better understanding what is actually the content of all that hype.
Clearly presented and cuts to the chase........2005-04-09
I have been using this book as a reference and teaching text since Sept 2003 and have stuck with it because I have found that it offers more comprehensive and clearer explanations of the key web service concepts than do other comparable texts - though some other books eg by Marks and Werrell or by Douglas Barry are also well written and have their strengths, they are somewhat less insightful on important aspects. The coverage of 'missing pieces' such as WS security, is [inevitably] becoming dated but hopefully given the modular nature of the text and the author's willingness to publish electronically, it will soon be reissued with some critical updates.
An excellent overview for technical decision-makers.......2004-12-20
This book is extremely helpful for decision-makers who are considering proposals for implementing web services. It is not designed for the architect or programmers but provides an outstanding overview of the key issues. I particularly appreciated the chapter on how to decide what type of project to undertake and assess its complexity and proposed schedule.
I really hope that Mr. Kaye comes out soon with a book with very practical advice on how to use web services to integrate specific COTS such as Oracle Financials, etc. with other applications. The idea of web services sounds great, but as a veteran of two projects now that are using some form of web services, it is not as easy as one would like. Mr. Kaye clearly defines some of the issues. Now lets have a follow-up that helps us with the next phase.
