This report presents a paper and highlights from The California Forum on Health Care Conversions and Philanthropy: Moving the Dialogue Forward. This meeting, co-sponsored by Grantmakers In Health and The Aspen Institute's Nonprofit Sector Research Fund, engaged grantmakers, consumer groups, regulators, and policymakers in dialogue on critical issues related to philanthropy that arise in health care conversions in California and nationwide.

The report focuses on the new foundations that have been established from the sale or transfer of assets of nonprofit hospitals, HMOs, and insurance providers to for-profit providers. It includes opinions by a diverse group of stakeholders on the mission, governance, and impact of the new health foundations and the broad policy, practice, and research implications of conversion activity.

From the supplier: Band spectral regression techniques are used to identify the frequency bands that are most important in the relationships between money growth and inflation, and between money growth and the nominal interest rate. The results show that cycles in the growth rate of M1 from one or two years long produce higher frequency cycles in inflation, and two distinct sets of higher frequency cycles in changes in the nominal interest rate. The results support models where predictable changes in money growth produce liquidity and anticipated inflation effects on nominal interest rates. (Printed by permission of the publisher.)

We compare optimal and simple interest-rate rules. Our model features optimizing agents, monopolistic competition in both product and labor markets, and one-period nominal contracts (for wages alone or for both wages and prices) signed before shocks are known. Exact solutions ensure that we obtain correct welfare rankings. Optimal rules maximize the unconditional expected utility of the representative agent with commitment subject to the information set of the policymaker. Even with monopolistic distortions, the optimal full-information rule makes the economy mimic the hypothetical full-flexibility equilibrium. Strict versions of inflation targeting, nominal-income-growth targeting, and other such simple rules are suboptimal under both full and partial information but flexible versions are optimal under certain partial-information assumptions. Nominal-income-growth targeting dominates inflation targeting for plausible parameter values.

What to Expect...this is not.......2004-05-03

...but a tongue-in-cheek, unpretentious and very funny guide to the perils of fatherhood, it is. Not really PRACTICAL, in fact not at all practical, but a good little gift for anyone who knows a first-time "expectant father" with a sense of humor. The part about the octopus, the baby, and the sweater really cracked me up. My brother-in-law gave it to me before the birth of our child and while I still don't like him much at least now I know we can laugh at the same things....

honest transcription, but no style at all.......2007-07-18

From the harp point of view, this book is just a collection of honest transcriptions. If you want to play exactly like Bob Dylan, go ahead, buy this book.

But talking about the "harp styles", it seems that there is no style at all. It says nothing about how to use the harp support, or about any technique, embouchure, etc.

There is ONE single page talking about how Bob start playing rough and amateurish and, that after 5 months, he was a "competent" harp player (I don't agree). Then, the music sheets.

So, what are the "styles" the books claims to talk about? Almost no bends, lots of chords, lots of go-forth-and-back-notes. No harp teacher I know will teach his students to play like that. They will insist for months until their students learn to breathe and how to play single notes, with nice tone and vibrato.

This book may be nice for Dylan's fans, but certainly is not suitable for real harp players.

Rehashed internet dribble on the subject of LSD or ACID as the inept trying to hide their ineptitude call it, trying to sound like they are in the know.
I found more information on a Google search.
Fortunately, for our children, most info on making this chemical is half-baked and half-a****.
Books like this will only be a threat to their wallet, not their minds.

This book gives a lot of background on acid... who discovered it and how. It also describes the typical acid experience and details how to make LSD. It also discusses the current laws regarding LSD in the US. It didn't give much straight up info on adverse side affects or anything, but overall its a good read.

I thaught before my first trip i would read up on the drug so i purchased thisbook. I thaught it would be informative but it didnt help at all overall if u wana learn about acid dont read this book the only good part about the book was when they talk about persona experiances on LSD

Massive work, far too many middle-of-the road movie ratings........1998-06-17

This book speaks volumes if the reader takes the time to peruse the text. However, as a quick reference it is somewhat cumbersome. Also, the star rating system often does little justice to movies which started or define a genre, those with substance over style, and to movies that have inspired other screen works. Two and one-half to three stars appear too frequently for these types of movies.

Leonard Maltin's Movie & Video guide, 1998 Ed.......1997-12-27

Maltin's guide is not bad. I refer to the 1998 paperback Issue. It contains 19.000 reviews of film or TV movies. I think it is a must.But the editor/author, ie Maltin has nothing to say about choice or verdict. Choice is evidently films known to the USA audience. Verdict is not easy to understand: **** is top, BOMB is bottom. Grade 1 is ****, grade 2 is ***½, grade 3 is ***,et cetera. What does a certain grade signify? Maltin has nothing to say.What more: A room with a view, Elvira Madigan, Goodfather III are all rated ***, the same as Gentlemen prefer Blondes. I have just seen MM in Gentlemen prefer Blondes, and it is a charming movie. But to compare it to the others is a major fault, I think. I suggest 1) Skip all B/W movies but the very best,as Metropolis. 2) Give data on audience 3) Make a much better index. Of course You could make a B/W supplement - even including B-movies of Ronald Reagan or John Wayne. And you might even include a list of the James Bond movies. Hollywood or USA,

One of the best introductions to home recording.......2003-08-10

This is a great book for the absolute beginner to the world of music recording on a PC. The only prerequisite is a basic understanding of how to operate a computer. The style is clear and direct - and with an appreciated dose of humility and humour. The reader gains confidence in building/modifying a PC so that it can successfully satisfy the demands of music recording software. Then the reader is guided through the selection of the audio-specific hardware and software required. The recording, editing and mixing of a multitrack song are then very clearly and thoroughly taught. Finally, the reader is shown how to create their first CD and, if they wish, how to publish it to the internet in the form of mp3 files.

Criticism might be leveled at the author because he is using a particular combination of hardware and software throughout the text (Steingberg's Cubase SX, Tascam's US-428 and Edirol's PCR-50). In my view, however, this is a sensible approach because the beginner faces an overwhelming number of possible combinations of gear (many of which may not work together!). Afterall, the world of PC audio recording has two major obstacles: the software and the hardware. This book saves you much time by giving you a working hardware setup which allows you to move directly to mastering the software. By using a setup that is tried, tested and true, you get results quickly and painlessly. In this sense, the author is doing the reader a huge favour. Renting this gear from your local music store won't break the bank and will allow you to gain some well-guided experience. After a couple of months, you'll be ready to decide on what gear configurations you want to actually purchase and (perhaps more to the point) you will have gotten a complete overview of how things work. In fact, you may have recorded and produced your first CD!

Well written, up to date and sorely needed. Highly recommended.
