This is a really cute stationary set: the paper is nice and thick and the design is adorable. FYI, my set didn't include any sticker seals, but I don't know if that was just my rotten luck or if this product is being advertised improperly. Regardless, if you like French Kitty, you'll love this correspondence set even if it doesn't include the stickers.

          Book Description

"I mean, it really is like Cinderella." In a mixture of awe and wonder, that's the way Mariah Carey describes her career. It really does seem as if she's the heroine of a fairy tale. In a matter of a few quick years she's gone from a poor girl raised alone by her divorced mother on Long Island, New York, to one of the world's leading pop divas. Her story is both inspiring and inspirational. Her four albums have sold a total of over sixteen million copies in this country alone. Her first five singles all reached Number One on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, a feat never managed before by anyone-not event the Beatles or Elvis Presley. Among the many awards she's received are two Grammys. And, as if all that weren't quite enough, she married the man who discovered her, Tommy Mottola, the head of the company for which she records.

          1 out of 5 stars ....i don't know what to say.......2005-06-21

wow, i really don't recommend this to anyone.. at all. being a devoted fan for 6 years, there was nothing new to learn about mariah in this book. most of the information was taken from articles ive already read and no previously unvisited aspects of her life were discussed in this book.. i could have read this biography and a student's school essay about mariah and there would not be a difference.

2 out of 5 stars review about mariah carey; her story.......2000-12-17

im a big mariah fan, and prior to reading the book, i knew all the information in it. it wasn't anything special that most fans dont know already. i wrote a research paper on mariah for school, it had to be at least 20 pages typed, and i'd say my paper is better then the book. i wouldnt recommend this book to her die-hard fans, i'd recomend it to people who know little on mariah, and want to learn about her. the pictures werent any good either.

          5 out of 5 stars Butterfly.......1999-12-22

I really enjoyed reading this book. I liked the book because it's like a rags to riches story. I also enjoyed the book because Mariah Carey is my favorite singer. Not only do I enjoy her music but I love how she care for the children, and has actually taken more than a few steps to help them. I would say that I was her #1 fan. Not an obsessed fan but more like a great admirer of her art. My review is named, Butterfly, because what I got from her story is that she struggled, went through some things, as we all do in life, worked hard, set a goal for herself, was determined, did so, and became the SUPERStar she is today. She's blossomed into this beautiful woman...a butterfly.

1 out of 5 stars Probably the worst biography I've ever read.......1999-11-21

When I boght Mariah Carey: Her Story, I thought I was finally gonna be able to read a book that talks about Mariah Carey and will have a more realistic view about her life. But what I read was an artificial biography that wrote about things I already knew. What's worse is that the author made a huge effort to compare Mariah to Cinderella, which made the book just as sugar-coated as Mariah's old music. It also turned me off that the author constantly compared Mariah to Whitney Houston, and never wrote one possible thing about Whitney.

If you're not very familiar about Mariah's life--then this book is for you, but I wouldn't recommend it, save your money or buy a REAL biography.

2 out of 5 stars Author was very ill-informed.......1999-09-14

It was obvious from the first couple of sentences, that the author wasn't on top of things when it came to reporting about Mariah. His first mistake was getting a simple fact like her BIRTHDAY wrong! I was left sceptical about how much he actually researched for the book. As a MAJOR MAJOR fan of hers, this really irked me. I was hoping to find out something about my mentor that I didn't have access to learning. No such luck. Most of the book was a repeat of articles written on her by other journalists.

The book was very positive for Mariah. The few photos that were included were beautiful!

For those that don't know much about Mariah, I would say this is a good book to start out with, but do something the author didn't do...research what is being said. Read another book on her, go find another article on her, you'll find that some links were missed.

              Book Description

For more than thirty years the solution to all Britain's problems has been better management. As a result management schools now dominate higher education and managers are at work everywhere developing 'strategies', delivering 'systems' and defining quantifiable 'outcomes'. The consummation of the process has been New Labour's 'rebranding' of Britain as afully manageable commodity.

Yet, strangely, things often seem worse organised than before. There are noe more managers on the rail network than train drivers, yet the benefits of modern management of railways, schools, hospitals, universitys, art centres, BBC, churches . . . are hard to find.

This is because there is one flaw in the great vision of a managed society: 'management' does not exist--the academic study of 'management science' and the assumtion that there are universal management skills are bogus. This book shows how modern managment practicea have all but destroyed politics, education, culture and religion--modern manaement is not the cure but the cause of many of our national ills.

              Book Description

With the advent of new technologies and governmental regulation, notably the Telecommunications Act of 1996, not only has the broadcast industry changed dramatically, but also the laws covering the management and its human resources. Executives must know and understand these changes to operate within the law and to make best use of their people. With careful attention to scholarly accuracy and the latest thinking, Scott's book approaches the crucial human resource problems in broadcasting with a hands-on awareness of what really goes on among broadcasting industry people and the organizations that depend on them. Scott writes for practitioners and provides the information they can use daily, supplying academic professionals and students of broadcasting management with an important resource. Chapter 1 briefly describes the broadcast industry, with special attention to significant technological changes and regulations. Chapter 2 examines the standard regulatory challenges faced by broadcasters. Chapters 3 and 4 review the major management and motivational theories over the past 150 years. These theories are then critiqued and applied to current personnel problems. The section on broadcast ethics discusses moral and ethical frameworks to help managers make the "right" decisions. In Chapter 5, the duties of the human resource director are noted along with pertinent EEOC laws banning discrimination. Chapter 6 reviews the employment process, including interviewing, training, performance reviews, progressive discipline, and the proper, legal method to terminate an employee. Chapter 7 enumerates the duties and responsibilities of the programming area including the operations manager, chief engineer, program director, and other department heads. Types of radio and television programming are discussed along with effective scheduling strategies. The book concludes with Chapter 8, Sales, which includes discussions of the Arbitron and Nielsen ratings organizations, sales proposals, and duties of the sales personnel.

From the supplier: Directors and managers of rural electric cooperatives should actively participate in media relations programs. They should not leave communications staffers alone when it comes to media relations because they play a unique role in maintaining or improving the image of cooperatives. Therefore, when they hear unfavorable comments during informal events or read unsavory remarks in the media about rural electric cooperatives, they should defend the position of the cooperative and inform people at the cooperative about them so necessary actions can be taken. It is also highly advisable to develop good relations with such media outlets as newspapers and broadcasters because they are usually open to suggestions from cooperatives as long as they involve news-worthy topics. A good media relations program involves a press packet and a listing of all media outlets. Honesty should always be observed when dealing with the media.

From the author: Considering the top 65 prime-time series in the first 14 weeks of the 1995-96 television season, this study examined the relationship between women working behind the scenes and use of powerful language by female characters. Powerful language attributes included how often female characters spoke, had the first and/or last substantive word, interrupted, and advised others. The study found somewhat inconsistent relationships between women working behind the scenes and the use of powerful televisual language patterns by female characters. Female executive producers and producers appear to be more influential in the use of powerful language than female writers or directors.

3 out of 5 stars Too Fast For Me.......2004-08-25

Actually, this is an excellent reference. Techniques are described simply and completely. My problem with it is they start on second base and I'm trying to get to first. Many terms are referred to but not explained. I'm sure that with another starter book (I recommend How To Use Adobe Photoshop CS) to get me going, I will use 10 Steps or Less and find it very helpful. Also the lack of color illustrations makes it difficult to see some of the changes being explained.

5 out of 5 stars Adobe Photoshop CS in 10 Simple Steps or Less.......2004-07-08

Excellent resource! Very user friendly. I would highly recommend this book for anyone, from beginner to pro!

5 out of 5 stars Terrific reference, easy to understand and use.......2004-07-05

What if you're fairly new to Adobe Photoshop and want a helpful book to give you a good introduction to its many features? What if you've used Photoshop for awhile but you'd like a book to help you explore more? What if you're an advanced Photoshop user who'd like a helpful Photoshop reference that can provide quick answers and covers all of Photoshop's features? Adobe Photoshop CS in 10 Simple Steps or Less, by Micah Laaker and Christopher Schmitt, is an outstanding new book that I wholeheartedly recommend.

Christopher Schmitt and Micah Laaker each bring plenty of prior authoring experience to Photoshop CS in 10 Steps or Less. They are both well-respected Photoshop experts and award-winning designers and creative experts. Their combined experience shows throughout the entire book in its high quality and easy-to-understand writing and examples.

Photoshop CS in 10 Steps or Less contains almost 600 pages of easy-to-follow "Tasks" covering every or nearly every feature in Photoshop CS. While not intending to cover Photoshop in tremendous depth or help you create an entire project, this new book on Photoshop CS is a terrific reference tool to quickly and easily find out how to use all of Photoshop's features. It's also helpful for exploring and discovering less familiar features.

Although more geared for beginners and intermediate users to Photoshop, I can see Photoshop CS in 10 Steps or Less being a helpful reference for advanced Photoshop users, too. Christopher Schmitt and Micah Laaker achieve the book's goal to serve as "an indispensable reference, ready to provide you with quick-to-follow, easy-to-understand, step-by-step instructions."

Open Photoshop CS in 10 Steps or Less anywhere and you'll see a complete "Task" in 10 steps or less on the two open pages, which the back cover describes as a "self-contained two-page spread." Each Task is concisely written, easy to understand, and includes plenty of screenshots, examples, tips, and cross-references.

Want to learn more about using paths or pick up some tips on Photoshop's selection tools? The easy-to-follow 275 tasks are logically organized by type of task into 17 sections to make finding what you need easy and fast:

                        Part 1: Photoshop Basics
                        Part 2: The Work Area
                        Part 3: Color Essentials
                        Part 4: Color Adjustments
                        Part 5: Selections
                        Part 6: Path Essentials
                        Part 7: Transformations
                        Part 8: Painting Essentials
                        Part 9: Advanced Painting Techniques
                        Part 10: Channels and Masks
                        Part 11: Layer Essentials
Part 12: Layer Styles and Shape Layers
                        Part 13: Type
                        Part 14: Filters
                        Part 15: Automations
                        Part 16: Print Essentials
Part 17: For the Web: ImageReady

A minor little point is that I wish the Table of Contents noted the Tasks that cover new or improved features in Photoshop CS or that an Appendices at the back listed them all with their corresponding Tasks. I'd love to check out the Tasks that specifically cover new or improved features and tools. New or improved features and tools are noted within most of their corresponding Tasks, though.

My other minor little wish is for the helpful screenshots and examples to be printed in color within the book. While the black-and-white image quality in the book is pretty good, I found I could get a better perspective when I instead used the downloadable color images via the online companion site. At the same time, I understand the much higher cost of printing in color. The publisher is able to offer this massive book and incredibly helpful reference at such a low price, which I find an incredible value.

Christopher Schmitt and Micah Laaker did an exceptional job of covering a vast amount of material in a concise, easy-to-follow, user-friendly way. It's so easy to find everything, and the simple instructions provide enough information to get you started with each of Photoshop's tools and features. Whether new to Photoshop or an advanced professional, just about anyone interested in Photoshop can benefit from having Photoshop in 10 Simple Steps or Less as a handy reference.

Be sure to also visit the book's online companion at Christopher Schmitt's website where you can check out the Table of Contents, download artwork from the book, visit related resources, and learn more about this fantastic book.

5 out of 5 stars Making it easy........2004-04-15

Wow. This book is easy to follow and goes over every nook and cranny of photoshop cs. It is big - almost 600 pages of simple, step by step instructions of how to do things with photoshop. The key is the table of contents, a complete listing of each task. The book is B/W to keep the cost down, and so you get alot of information for the cost.

5 out of 5 stars Extremely clear, easy to follow.......2004-03-19

Gets right to the point so you can get your project done.
