This course introduces insurance agents to the long term care (LTC) field, providing a solid foundation in LTC insurance and the tools necessary to meet needs with affordable, quality LTC products. This important and timely book examines how corporate governance has and should be developed in China to meet the challenges of enterprise and financial reform. It highlights key economic, social and political issues that China has to confront in order to transform the state owned industrial enterprises into a competitive and modern corporate sector.

On Kit Tam critically appraises the main analytical frameworks and models of corporate governance in industrialized countries. He then assesses China's development in terms of current Western debates in relation to the role, function and evolution of corporate governance arrangements. He examines how the Chinese government has adopted a top-down approach combined with a market based Anglo-American model. The author also presents surveys of company directors, managers and supervisors reporting the current environment and analyses the choices available in the light of China's particular problems. He concludes with suggestions for a model of corporate governance in China.

The role of equity markets in economic development has been increasingly recognized in recent years. Yet few studies have analyzed the transmission mechanisms between them. This paper looks at this missing agenda by indirectly assessing whether the equity markets fulfill the following roles: (a) financing firms' investment; (b) improving firms' corporate governance and, hence, performance; and (c) signaling information regarding issuers to public investors through stock prices--all of which are essential in achieving economic growth for developing countries. This paper assesses the development stages of China's equity markets by testing whether the above three roles are fulfilled.

This study sheds light on the efficiency of corporate control allocation in Chinese listed firms. Using a panel data set for the period 1996 to 2006, it examines the frequency, causes and consequences of changes in corporate control. The results indicate that poorly performing firms are the predominant targets of control changes; shareholder and creditor control generally act as a complement for changes in control. Following the change in ownership there is a substantial amount of corporate restructuring and an improvement in operating performance. Significant differences in these dimensions emerge, however, between State and private transfers of control. The findings not only provide insights into the motives and constraints of the key players involved in governance practices in China; but they also contain useful implications for other emerging markets around the world that have weak legal systems and weak property rights protection.

Converstions with my Cat Review.......2000-12-24

I read Conversations with my Cat right before going to bed and I loved it!! It is laugh-out-loud funny, and has real meaning to what the guy's cat says. This book really helped me to understand cats. I know that not everything in this book is true, but there are many facts, such as the "Tail" language, and what the cat wants to eat (not cat food).

Conversations with my Cat is about a writer who's cat begins to talk. The cat, "The Bomber," tells his "host" all about being a cat, how cats think (they don't, they just have the Big Urge), and even some cat fairy tales! Having a talking cat in his house changes the man's life. His relationships with his cat and his girlfriend change forever. Read the book to findout about all this and more!

I gave Conversations with my Cat five stars because it's a funny page tunner that gives you a new way to looking at cats and life. I highly reccomend this book for you if you like animals, especially cats.

I liked this book okay but I didn't find it as funny as it was supposed to be. I read it ages ago but I still don't get the end. I know I'm slow, but what's that supposed to mean? The last sentence, "Oh, he's just a big jerk anyway." That *is* Catfish who said that,right? What's that supposed to mean? Mail me if you can tell me something useful!

I picked up this book to read on Sunday morning with my 2 cats sitting next to me. This is the first book that I have read where I was laughing out loud and tears running down my face. David Fisher did a remarkable job writting this book and anyone who is a cat lover should read it. Thank you for making my day!!

This delightful book is a "must read" for anyone who owns a cat, or thinks they do. It is so funny and close to realism that it could be true and many of us think it is. Especially, us cats. It was a book that I read slower and slower so as not to come to its end.

Great "step-by-step" book for beginers.......2006-07-18

I purchased this book to learn the basics of autocad map... a very similar program. The book is very easy to follow and detailed. Sykes does a great job of explaining all the autocad jargon and the step-by-step projects are perfect for becoming familiar with autocad tools. I haven't made it through the entire book yet, but I selectively read the chapters I needed to get me going within about 8hrs. Not too bad. Be sure to get the CD with the book as well as the reference card. I wished there would have been more info on how to layout the drawing for print and how to insert legends, scale, etc. but I suppose that is what the advanced book is for.
Overall, a very user friendly book if you want to become familiar with a not-so user friendly program. I look forward to purchasing the advanced book.

This is truly a step by step approach. It starts with the fundamentals. The progression from basics to advanced is very orderly. I have used this book to learn AutoCAD 2000 and now I highly recommend it as a text or a reference. I reach for this book when I need information or help with a command or sequence of commands that I have forgotten. The examples and exercises develop real understanding.

This book is excellent! The step by step procedure, clear detailed graphics and the multimedia CD are all linked to each other which allow reader of any level to understand AutoCAD without any difficulty.

For a student this book is the best. The step by step approach is excellent. I like the graphics and the pictures of what the screen looks like when I do the commands. Easy to follow and Sykes takes a difficult lesson and make it easy to understand.
