From the supplier: Although exogeneity is often associated with controllable policy variables, Engle, Hendry and Richard (1983) show that the one condition is neither necessary nor sufficient for the other. Whether variables such as monetary aggregates are (weakly) exogenous depends on the conditioning properties of the data generating process. Testing exogeneity claims represents an important step in analyzing money demand functions. Although Switzerland adheres to fairly strict monetarist prescriptions, we reject the hypothesis that M0 and M1 are weakly exogenous for a price equation. Our results for M1 support the conventional view in which money market equations reflect the demand for money as the dependent variable. (Printed by permission of the publisher.)

Funny Stuff!.......2003-11-04

I enjoyed the "prequel" to this book, Snickers from the Front Pew, and this new one is just as funny, if not funnier.

It's great to read "Christian" humor that doesn't try so hard to have some kind of spiritual application. That's not to say that the authors don't make some great points. But they do it in a way that fits within the framework of the stories they tell or the comedic monologues they do.

And, while some serious books have "comic relief," this one has occasional "serious relief," such as the moving tribute to Rich Mullins.

If you're looking for genuine humor from a "Christian" book, get into Mischief!

Textbook of last resort.......2002-12-03

After teaching a course at the community college level using this book (which I inherited, on short notice), I can honestly say that there must be better options for learning music fundamentals. I am examining other textbooks for next year, and can guarantee that Ottman's will NOT be among them.

Ottman seperates elements that would be best be consolidated (i.e. rhythmic elements). While he suggests an organizational scheme to reorder the book and keep elements together, the way the text is written would obliterate any benefit from doing so. Ottman's writing style is dry, and tends to be overloaded with advanced detail that is best left to a 1st-semester theory class. At times, Ottman can also come across as condescending towards the reader, which irritated my students (and this instructor) greatly.

Ottman also makes the mistake of assuming that everyone who is learning music fundamentals is familiar with, or interested in, classical music. The musical examples included in the book tend to be as dry as his writing style. Some folk songs are simply labeled with the country of origin; without the lyrics, they are just boring. Many other textbooks successfully integrate examples from popular music with the classical examples; this book would benefit from such an integration.

Not all is lost, as Ottman does a decent job with the Appendix, which looks towards serious study of music theory. He also does well with repetition within exercises. The book also includes a detachable keyboard card, which visually links each key with its representation on the grand staff. But generally, these features alone do not merit a recommendation.

Rudiments of Music.......2000-06-01

This book will teach the practicing musician everything you they could possibly need to know about music theory and notation. As a beginner of music studies, I found it all a bit mind bending at first. My advice is to just hang in there and before you know it, the long words and scary looking notation sections will all make sense. I borrowed this book and am now trying to find a copy to purchase (that doesn't cost over $100 aus) as I know I shall be using it as a reference tool for many years to come. For the serious musician, it's a must have.

This handbook is a wonderful reference for broadcast writing and offers good general tips as well. The authors bring personal experiences to the book, and though I read this for a college journalism course, it was an enjoyable read and I intend to keep it on hand as I begin my uphill climb in the TV news world.

The Forrest Mims Circuit Scrapbook.......2007-03-12

This book is good for the price. It is very good for the electronic hobbyist especially a beginner, but also some with experience.

Great little book full of interesting designs.......2006-11-28

This little book is full of very interesting little circuits that are reminicent of Don Lancaster's various cookbooks published in the early 1980's. Chapter one on analog circuits contains information you just don't see anymore on how to build various circuits based on op amps. I also really loved the section on test equipment including how to build a very simple solid-state oscilloscope. Every chapter has something "fun" in it, especially the chapter on experimenter and game circuits, such as the simple wind speed indicator. Chapter six, on digital circuits, has the most basic designs. Since the onset of COTS and modular electronics, the typical electrical engineer just no longer gets to have the kind of fun you'll have with these interesting electronic designs. The content is very detailed with complete construction details. I subtract a single star from my rating due to a few errors I found in some of the instructions. However, the errors are pretty obvious to anyone familiar with electronics.

Not for the advanced.......2006-03-09

As an electronics engineer I bought this book because some people recommended it to me. Once I got it I was disappointed since I didn't find anything interesting in it. The quality of what's in it is not bad, but its just not for me. It might be good for people who want to tinker a bit with electronics. I don't think I will ever pick it up again.

Like anything Forrest Mims has written, this is a treasure trove of interesting projects for both work and play.

Errors, Omissions and Typos.......2005-01-20

I purchased this book based on others previously written by Mr. Mimms. My old collection consisted of his 1980 edition of the Engineer's Notebook series and the Integrated Circuit Projects mini books previously available from Radio Shack. There always seems to be some overlap with his books. I was attempting to update my library since I had not been involved in circuit building for a while. I DO regret purchasing this book. As the title implies, this book should have remained his scrapbook. It contains typos, incomplete info and contradictions with his other published books while using some of the same IC's and circuits. As a result, some circuits don't work properly or not at all. One such example on page 129, the schematic of the general purpose amplifier. He has pin 1 of the 741 op amp as the output to the 386 chip. It should be pin 6 on the 741 chip (output). I attempted the circuit with his pinout and it would never work. Pin 1 is the offset null. Pin 6 is the output of the op amp. Other books of his state the 741 can use a single polarity power supply for non voice purposes and yet this same circuit uses such. He states the same circuit can be used with several type microphones or sensors etc. If used with a condenser mike it cannot be used without additonal parts.
