Customer Reviews:
Great Resumes for Educators !!.......2007-05-19
Most teachers do not know how to write a resume....this is a GREAT SOURCE of information. I highly recommend it for an educator who is needing to write a resume. Well worth the money !!!
Good resource for applying for teaching positions.......2007-05-13
This book helped me to organize my resume. It is a good resource for key words that are attention grabbers so that your resume will get noticed. I am sure I will use this reference book to help me update my resume in the future too.
This is THE BOOK!.......2007-04-27
Let me tell you, I recently checked out four books from the library that are specifically aimed at teachers (this book, Resumes and Cover Letters for Teachers, 101 Grade A Resumes for Teachers, and Real-Resumes for Teachers). If you want the ultimate book, this is it!
I was utterly amazed at the quality and uniqueness of the resumes included in this book. I cannot tell you how impressed I was with the various concepts that the authors have touched upon. This book is A-1, perfect for the 21st century teacher - regardless of where you are at in your career or what subject you teach (there is a specific section aimed directly to you and your situation). If you want to stand out from the crowd and get your resume pulled out of the stack of thousands then this book is the way to do it. Incidentally, if you're looking for an excellent secondary source check out Real-Resumes for Teachers (Real-Resumes Series) (Real-Resumes Series). It won't replace this book by a long shot, but it will give you some additional ideas.
The best resume book for teachers!!.......2003-11-19
I got this book along with several other resume books for teachers from the library. I thought this book was the best of all of them. It is filled with actual award-winning resumes by real teachers. The authors point out the special features and strengths of each resume. What I especially liked is that they focus on the visual style and formatting of a resume along with the content.
Using the examples and tips in this book, I re-formatted my resume to showcase my strengths and be easier to read. I had sent my old resume to someone in response to a teaching job he had, but I never heard from him. Still hoping to get in at this school district, I sent my new and improved resume to a different person, hoping she might have some openings instead. Well, she gave a copy of my new resume to the first person and he called me the same day for an interview!! I know it sounds like a cliche, but it really happened. My new resume got me in the door, and I got the job!! I highly recommend this book!

Book Description
This volume explores East Asia's macroeconomic experience in the 1980s and the economic impact of East Asia's growth on the rest of the world. The authors explore the causes of capital flows, changes in trade balances, and exchange rate fluctuations in East Asia and their effects on other countries.
These fourteen papers are organized around four themes: the overall determinants of growth and trading relations in the East Asian region; monetary policies in relation to capital controls and capital accounts; the impact of exchange rate behavior on industrial structure; and the potential for greater regional integration. The contributors examine interactions among exchange rate movements, trade balances, and capital flows; how government monetary policy affects capital flows; the effect of exchange rates on industrial structure, inventories, and prices; and the extent of regional integration in East Asia.

Book Description
"I've done everything in the theatre except marry a property man," Fanny Brice once boasted. "I've acted for Belasco and I've laid 'em out in the rows at the Palace. I've doubled as an alligator; I've worked for the Shuberts; and I've been joined to Billy Rose in the holy bonds. I've painted
the house boards and I've sold tickets and I've been fired by George M. Cohan. I've played in London before the king and in Oil City before miners with lanterns in their caps." Fanny Brice was indeed show business personified, and in this luminous volume, Herbert G. Goldman, acclaimed biographer of
Al Jolson, illuminates the life of the woman who inspired the spectacularly successful Broadway show and movie Funny Girl, the vehicle that catapulted Barbra Streisand to super stardom.
In a work that is both glorious biography and captivating theatre history, Goldman illuminates both Fanny's remarkable career on stage and radio--ranging from her first triumph as "Sadie Salome" to her long run as radio's "Baby Snooks"--and her less-than-triumphant personal life. He reveals a
woman who was a curious mix of elegance and earthiness, of high and low class, a lady who lived like a duchess but cursed like a sailor. She was probably the greatest comedienne the American stage has ever known as well as our first truly great torch singer, the star of some of the most memorable
Ziegfeld Follies in the 1910s and 1920s, and Goldman covers her theatrical career and theatre world in vivid detail. But her personal life, as Goldman shows, was less successful. The great love of her life, the gangster Nick Arnstein, was dashing, handsome, sophisticated, but at bottom, a loser who
failed at everything from running a shirt hospital to manufacturing fire extinguishers, and who spent a good part of their marriage either hiding out, awaiting trial, or in prison. Her first marriage was over almost as soon as it was consummated, and her third and last marriage, to Billy Rose, the
"Bantam Barnum," ended acrimoniously when Rose left her for swimmer Eleanor Holm. As she herself remarked, "I never liked the men I loved, and I never loved the men I liked." Through it all, she remained unaffected, intelligent, independent, and, above all, honest.
Goldman's biography of Al Jolson has been hailed by critics, fellow biographers, and entertainers alike. Steve Allen called it "an amazing job of research" and added "Goldman's book brings Jolson back to life indeed." The Philadelphia Inquirer said it was "the most comprehensive biography to
date," and Ronald J. Fields wrote that "Goldman has captured not only the wonderful feel of Al Jolson but the heartbeat of his time." Now, with Fanny Brice, Goldman provides an equally accomplished portrait of the greatest woman entertainer of that illustrious era, a volume that will delight every
lover of the stage.
Customer Reviews:
Herbert Goldman's "Fanny Brice: The Original Funny Girl".......2005-09-06
This is a great biography of a great entertainer. Many beautiful photos of this dear, wonderful performer and
this author does a fine job of telling Fanny Brice's
story! After seeing the two Streisand movies, this book
does an excellent job in providing an unvarnished version.
Entertaining and enlightening. I highly recommend it!
one of the most unbiased, yet loving tributes to a real star.......1999-03-13
I had the pleasure of reading FANNY BRICE by Herbert Goldman when it first came out in 1992. I am sorry that it is now out of print, as it is one of the most detailed writings on a stage/vaudeville star I have ever encountered. From her early struggles, to the height of her stardom, to her untimely death, this grand lady lead a memorable life that few can ever hope for. This lady conquered every medium she went out for. It should be read by young people aspiring to the arts to show them just how real troupers their ancestors really were......Mr Goldman also wrote the definitive book on another great, Al Jolson..I am looking forward to the one that he is writing now on Eddie Cantor. What a perfect trilogy on old Broadway......Kudos to you Mr Goldman...

Essential reading for anyone studying anything about Nova Scotia. Work past your assumptions of 'Canada's Ocean Playground' and the people who live there. Clear, concise and often amusing writing elevates this book way beyond dry academic study.

Book Description
In this groundbreaking and richly-sourced study, Jostein Gripsrud investigates the life and times of Dynasty, how it was made, how it came to international television screens and how it was received by its audiences. Through his discussion of this ultimate soap, Gripsrud offers a critique of many central positions in media studies, including notions of "audience resistance" and the "sovereign" audience and its "freedom" in meaning-making, arguing against uncritical celebrations of the soap-opera genre in much contemporary media criticism.
From the operatic camp of Krystle and Alexis's fights or the Moldavian wedding massacre to its unprecedented gay sub-plot,
The Dynasty Years follows every convoluted twist in the soap that achieved international success and heralded a profound transformation of European television. Combining insights from semiotics, psychoanalysis, feminism, and classic and critical social theory, Gripsrud presents a theoretically informed and empirically grounded study challenging many of the current assumptions in the field of media studies.
Customer Reviews:
a serious analysis [not a parody].......2006-06-19
At first, I did not know how seriously to take this book. It seemed like an elaborate prank. However gradually upon reading it, I realised that the author is deadly earnest. It is a sociological analysis of the episodes of Dynasty, as viewed on Norwegian television. But, and this is the significant point, it is also a co-analysis of the reaction of those episodes on the Norwegian audience.
It should be made clear that the book is not some fluffy tabloid precis of the show. Gripsrud expertly dissects the role of the prime time soap opera, using Dynasty as the case study.
If you are an American who watched the original episodes in the US, then this book might be a fascinating twisted perspective.
Take your Time!.......2004-07-11
Being a HUGE Dynasty fan, I bought this book not really knowing what it was about. It certainly IS about Dynasty, but buyer beware...it is about Dynasty's affect on Norway's mass media market. It's rather interesting, but takes a lot of patience to get through, as I caught myself glazing over, trying to understand all the technical terms and statistics used in some passages. If you are looking for a tell-all, behind the scenes TV Book, THIS IS NOT IT! Most of the book is more about Scandanavian society than the show itself, but the author definitely sheds some interesting light on what goes on in producing and marketing a television show. This is NOT a coffee table book!

Pointless keeping in print.......2007-06-24
This book refers to version 4 of the Dragon Naturally Speaking program. The current version is number 9, and is very significantly different from version 4. I don't know why this book is being offered for sale. Do not buy it.
This book is out of date.......2007-04-09
This book used to be useful but is now eight years out of date.
To learn how to use the latest version of Dragon, check out the Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9 "Video Guide" and "QuickStart." They are CD-ROMs that play on your computer. I am the author of both of these titles. They are available on Amazon:

Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9 Video Guide: Complete Three-Volume Set
Perfectly Useless.......2006-08-03
This book is seven years old. It was written for version 4.0. We are now up to 9.0.
Avoid it.
Its cool but you need to work with it........2005-08-30
It is a great program but you have to be willing to spend some time with it. At first I found it somewhat frustrating. But after I wile I got the editing commands down. I still use a keyboard but sometimes I feel like dictating and it fits the bill. So overall I would say be aware that you need to put in a little work to make it work.
It's old!.......2005-05-13
This book was written to help the average user with techniques, hints, etc, for learning to use the Dragon.
However, it was written, in 1999, for Dragon NaturallySpeaking version 4!
The current version is Dragon NaturallySpeaking 8.0, which is quite advanced.
There have been so many improvements in Dragon Naturally Speaking, since the book was written, that much of the information has become quite dated, and much-needed newer information is, of course, not included.
I bought this book unknowingly, when I was using version 7.0, and it did not address my needs.
Until they update this book, or write a new one, I would suggest buying a different book. Spend your $20 on something that will be useful!
