Book Description
The issue of private property and the rights it confers remain almost undiscussed in critiques of globalization and free market economics. Yet property lies at the heart of an economic system geared to profit maximization. The authors describe the historically specific and self-consciously explicit manner in which it emerged. They trace this history from earliest historical times and show how, in the hands of Thomas Hobbes and John Locke in particular, the notion of private property took on its absolutist nature and most extreme form--a form which neoliberal economics is now imposing on humanity worldwide through the pressures of globalization. They argue that avoiding the destruction of people's ways of living and of nature requires reshaping our notions of private property. It also examines the practical ways for social and ecumenical movements to press for alternatives.
Book Description
Over five editions, Macroeconomics has remained among the most popular intermediate texts in the field. The Sixth Edition incorporates the most current data and theory into the text's signature single-model approach, clearly demonstrating the real-world applications of macroeconomic theory. Additionally, the Sixth Edition has been revised to include updated and expanded coverage of long-run economic growth, the Taylor Rule, and international economics. A revised study guide and a new online edition of Macrosolve, the innovative multimedia learning resource, are fully integrated with the text.

Book Description
In the beginning, it was happy trails. Then someone invented the horseless carriage and things haven't been the same since. As ribbons of concrete spread over the horse trails, so did the fun and frustration. This book explores some of that highway fun, both past and present. Included are unique pictures of strange vehicles, early gas stations, convenience stores, the evolution of the stop light, unusual roadside signs, the Texas billboard hall of fame, strange things seen when driving, and much, much more. Also included are vignettes about famous and not so famous Texas highway incidents, making the book as much an adventure as driving the highways, only much safer.

Book Description
The first biography of one of modern rock's most influential figures. Emerging from the morass of suicide and potent musical legacy that was Nirvana, the Foo Fighters established themselves - against all odds - as one of the most popular rock bands in the world. Deflecting early critical disdain, Dave Grohl has single-handedly reinvented himself and cemented his place in the rock pantheon. This is his story, from his pre-Nirvana days in hardcore band Scream to his current festival-conquering status as a Grammy-winning, platinum-selling grunge legend reborn.

More Info Than You Will Find Anywhere Else.......2005-07-29
Yes, it's true that there is probably more detail than many people will want to know about punk rock and you may not agree with all of the authors opinions as he discusses each album and track (The Colour and the Shape is a great album start to finish!), but if you are the kind of person that looks for magazine articles to learn more about Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters, you will get a lot of insights within this book that you won't find anywhere else. No question, you need to be a big fan of the band to get this book, but I'm guessing you must be or you wouldn't be looking for this book anyway. The author did his homework and extracted comments from many sources throughout Dave Grohl's entire career to give a lot of behind the scenes information. I enjoyed the book enough that I wish it had been longer and covered their recently released album. I recommend it for the die hard fan that is looking to get the inside information that they haven't been able to find anywhere else.
Martin James needs to get over himself.......2004-09-04
I agree with everyone else so far who wasn't fond of this book. I've been a fan of Dave Grohl for most of his career and what I thought would be insightful as to who he is as a person or whatever, turned out to be a boring endlessly analytical review of everything Dave Grohl has been involved in musically.
I wanted the FACTS of Dave Grohl's life and career, but all this useless music critic had to offer was his opinions about what each track sounded like on each album and which ones were good, which were bad... excuse me? If you're a fan of Dave Grohl or the Foo Fighters in the first place, we're all probably going to have a difference of opinion as far as which album/songs are "best". What's the purpose of injecting Dave's BIOGRAPHY with your opinions? And the book is full of this guy's opinions and I'm NOT INTERESTED IN THOSE! He literally goes on for fifteen pages about how exactly each track on 'the colour and the shape' sounds and if it's good or not when I really don't need that because I ALREADY KNOW WHAT THE ALBUM SOUNDS LIKE!!!!
Another note- Martin James needs to learn how to spell. Numerous words and names are spelled wrong and punctuation marks used incorrectly. Once he said "...basketball star Codi Bryant..." Did he mean 'Kobe Bryant'? Apparently he also needs a hearing aid. I was feeling embarrassed for the guy. It's crazy how in love with his own perspective he is. He basically used Dave Grohl as a tool to unleash a perfect medium for his own views on music. I was thoroughly disappointed.
Absolute Trash.......2004-06-08
What could have been a fantastic biography ended up being a poor excuse for a useless music critic to write a book on punk music. There is very little information on Dave Grohl the person and not even that much on the Foo Fighters. Instead the author simply tries to analyse each and everytrack that Grohl and his bands have released and then analyses every track that influenced those tracks and then analyses the bands that performed those tracks. In a nutshell this book is a collection of interviews with various magazines. If you were to take the information on Grohl alone the book would be a good 5 pages.
A complete waste of time. Do not even bother! Go and spend the money on music mags instead. I seriously think the reason the author has worked for so many different publications is because he got fired for trying to sound clever.
Potentially great but disappointing.......2004-01-09
I love a good biography, especially those of musicians. I love all of Dave Grohl's creations esp. the Foo Fighters. I was really looking forward to learn more about the man. Unfortunately this book doesn't focus much on Dave but rather on the Punk music scene and a who's who of punk music. I didn't need a whole chapter on Cobain either. Who's bio is this anyway? The book does have some really good pictures, just not much personal info on the man. I grew bored and didn't even bother to finish it, which is rare for me. Not recommended.
A lot about "Dave, the musician" but not "Dave, the man".......2003-12-14
Although this book was an interesting summary of the bands Dave Grohl admired and was influenced by growing up, and, of course, played in, I was disappointed that it really didn't talk about him much in terms of his personal life. Most of the personal stuff in there I had already read on the internet. The author doesn't make it a secret that he pretty much pieced this together using interviews to other magazines or web sites. It seems that he must personally know Dave, but there is no indication of any one-on-one interview for this book.
I guess I was looking for the: what was his childhood like, what was it like growing up with him as a child or teenager, where did he work, where did he meet his wives, etc.
If you're looking for a breakdown of concerts and albums, this book does a good job of that. I do question reviewing each song from each CD...songs seem pretty subjective to me, and the author uses a lot of "this has a hint of the Pixies with a Metallica type chorus"... If you're getting that much out of it, you're analyzing it too much. IT'S JUST A SONG! Ya like it or ya don't!

Christian Book Previews.......2004-07-24
The Young Man in the Mirror is a great book written for teen guys ages 13 to 18. The book opens with Morley's life story which ropes the reader from the first paragraph. The author covers morals, dating situations, and other life impacting decisions.
As a 14 year guy, this book encouraged me to be a godly man and leader in this world. Morley used illustrations from his own life as examples of what to do or what not to do. He stated that men want to have a mission in life. If there is no mission, there is no life. God designed men to be protectors. A man cannot be a protector and a jerk at the same time.
Morley is a popular speaker in my area in the Midwest for men's retreats and his books are frequently used in men's Bible studies. The Young Man in the Mirror could be a Bible study opportunity for older men to mentor the next generation.
The Young Man in the Mirror instructs teenage boys how to live honorably. I tend to be a reluctant reader, but didn't have any trouble getting through this book. I passed my copy on to my friend. I recommend The Young Man in the Mirror for all young men and older men who act young. --

Exceptional book for young men seeking Christ's help.......2003-07-25
This book was a quick read and full of information on God's path for young men. It served as a tool to deepen my faith and answer some difficult questions that are hard to ask someone in person. This would be a great gift for any teenage guy!

Filth for filth's sake.......2005-12-29
Julian Clary's biog I found disgusting!! I am as broad minded as the next person, & more so than many, but this book was filth for filth's sake. His descriptions of what he gets up to were graphic to say the least & went far beyond just trying to shock. I can't believe that anyone could admit to being that irresponsible!
If/when he dies of AIDS he will have infected 100's of men ( & a few women) YUK!

What it was like to be young in the 1950s.......2007-08-17
Full disclosure: I am the author's cousin and appear several places in this book. That said, most of the book is about people I've never met and places that I have never been, not least of which was the Arctic. This book really brings out what it was like to be coming of age in the 50s. The author tells a lot of funny stories, all of them on himself. Anyone who was growing up then, especially if they had time in the military service, will enjoy it.
Good vacation reading.......2007-08-15
I just got back from a mountain vacation and enjoyed reading this book. It certainly is well done and will bring back memories for anyone who has served in the military, no matter which branch, although I admit I don't know of anyone else who got 30 demerit's in basic training!
More Than A Guided Adventure.......2007-08-09
Having read this intriguing and adventurous book, it leaves one with a sense of having personally sat down with the author and listening to his well told military and personal history. It is written with ease and comfort, without pretense, much like hearing "Sea Stories" by a favorite uncle. Some parts of the book are painfully honest and gritty which adds much credence to this epic story about a young man's life in the U.S. Coast Guard.
The book is packed with eye witness accounts of a truly historic chapter in U.S. and world maritime history. Much of the book is based on personal journals, logs, the writer's letters to home, and collaboration of others who shared this Arctic adventure and subsquent circumnavigation of the North American Continent. This book is richly endowed with countless historic photos and illustrations that add flesh to this precisely written account.
Mr. Juge's book not only depicts his own story, but that also of the ship on which he served while in Alaska and the Arctic, the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Storis. The Storis has a rich history beginning in WW2 and serving The USA for 65 years of meritorious service. This is a book within a book and is a must read for naval history buffs.
After finishing this book, I felt like I was parting with a former shipmate and close friend. It will be nice to take it from my bookshelf and revisit these remote places and personal trials of a boy becoming a man while serving his country in the U.S. Coast Guard.
Shiver me timbers.......2007-08-09

A mid-century American tale.......2007-08-09
It is the 50th anniversary of the ice-shattering Northwest Passage voyage that prompted the author to tell this story. Relying on letters, diaries, interviews, Coast Guard records and newspaper archives, the author takes us along not only on the ice-breaking tour around the North Pole, but through his own challenges as an 18 year old making decisions that led to his part as a crew memeber. This heartfelt, first-hand account is a tribute to the crews who brought the historic feat to reality as well as a mid-20th century American tale. Well-researched, often hilarious, sometimes touching, interesting throughout.

Customer Reviews:
Obsolescence: the Dark Side's greatest weapon.......2006-03-11
I run a LEGO League Robotics team and we were thrilled with the idea of "Dark Side" robots. Unfortunately, since a key part is no longer available, we are trolling e-Bay for parts. This title is a great concept, but it's very unpleasant that it's still being marketed when mission-critical components are not reliably available.
NOT FOR RIS 2.0!!!.......2006-01-04
The description should state this! My 8 year old son, who is a Mindstorms genius, has wanted this for so long! How disappointed he was Christmas morning. "This doesn't use my pieces, or even my RCX" he said--very disapppointing, and I think it should clearly say this is not for the CURRENT version of mindstorms. This book is completely useless to us, he cannot build ANYTHING in the book with his Mindstorms RIS 2.0 set.
We have another book from this line, and it is for RIS 2.0, and my son loves it.
Update: We learned this book is for the Lego Mindstorms "Dark Side Developer" kit (Star Wars). It is no longer made, but we found a set on ebay. Son loves it--and now this book, too!
Assemble your own Star Wars action robots.......2004-04-29
The robots described in detail in this book are really cool, and once you look at them, your patience will be tried until you get to the assembly stage. Constructing the robots is easy, each one is split into a series of small steps where the parts to be added are listed in a caption and the placement of the parts on the robot are highlighted on a second figure. We have all faced situations where we had to follow directions to put something together and struggled to make sense of the diagrams. In this case, that should not be a problem, these are some of the most understandable diagrams that I have ever seen.
The robots are all from the Star Wars series of movies and associated novels, which makes them even better. Most people with an interest in robots have seen the Star Wars movies, so it is wondrous to watch the robot gradually grow into something you have seen in action.
Lego Mindstorms is a robot kit that can be effectively used in class work from elementary school up though graduate school. In this book you will learn how to build some of the best robots, which will appeal to students throughout this spectrum.
Leisurely stimulating.......2004-03-02
Again, why doesn't Lego publish these books, Syngress though has definitely filled the gap in the industry, and I can't put these books down. Awesome Star Wars themed dudes, great graphics
Fairly Good.......2003-01-03
This is a wonderful inspirational book! There are lots of mechanisms here that are good to play around with and modify. Every robot has some interesting functions - since it's using the Microscout only, everything (often two functions) is done with only one motor! It's also inspiring seeing what can be done with limited pieces. Every model in the book is built ONLY using DSDK parts!
The pictures (or rather, CAD renderings) are crystal-clear, thanks to Kevin's LPub. The downside is that they're black-and-white, but it's fairly easy to tell the difference between a white part and a red part.
There's not much commentary in this book - it's mostly instructions. That makes it easier to follow, but it doesn't help much if you have a question about modifying the robot.
Overall I rate it three and a half stars for good robots and good instructions but bad commentary. Still a good book, though!
