This book accompanied along with Community Geography: GIS in Action, make a great pair in completing community mapping projects with classrooms grades K-12. Again, like Community Geography, the books took a long time to get to me (over a month), so plan in advance.

From the supplier: Currency boards are a system of fixed exchange rates that was common in colonial territories during the first half of the 20th century. They fell into disuse when colonial regimes collapsed, but they are making a comeback as a tool for stabilizing currencies and bringing order to economic conditions. Currency boards have proven very successful in pegging the exchange rate, but they have pitfalls that need to be considered. Governments that operate currency boards will have to accept restrictions on the implementation of their fiscal and monetary policies. This being so, currency boards can be said to be ideal for countries that suffer from hyperinflation or those in which financial stability is not yet well established.

Proponents of free trade routinely argue that an important benefit for developing countries is that it provides significant economic opportunities for their asset-less workers. By now, virtually all developing countries, have moved towards integrating themselves more closely with the international economy. To what extent have workers actually benefited from this integration? The Impact of Trade on Labor attempts to piece together broad-based evidence on the effects of trade liberalization on labor markets in developing countries in general, and selected countries from developing Asia in particular. The analysis of the available evidence takes into account the recent theoretical advances in this area.

The volume consists of nine substantive chapters separated into two parts. A main contribution of the first part is to use a blend of both theory and empirics to point out that the impact of trade liberalization on labor markets, including adjustment costs, depends in important ways on domestic labor market regulations and the nature of competition or market structure. Part I of the volume also presents a detailed discussion on the issue of labor standards, including whether trade access should be linked to a country's labor standards.

The second part of the volume moves on to a consideration of various related issues in three large and labor intensive countries, China, India and Indonesia. The approach taken in these studies is to focus on a specific issue of interest and examine this issue carefully for one country using available data. Thus the chapter on China examines the linkages between foreign direct investment and domestic labor standards; the Indonesia chapter assesses the relationship between trade and wage inequality between skilled and unskilled workers; and the chapter on India focuses more broadly on how trade liberalization has impacted employment in the manufacturing sector, paying special attention to the issue of labor market regulations.

Only for Elvis Novices.......2000-07-20

I have read so many books on Elvis, that I found this book to be a compliation of information already obtained from other authors. This book is strictly for the "beginner", looking to amuse themself with tidbits of unrelated information. Therefore, if you have been a reader of several books on Elvis already, don't waste your money here, for you have already come across this information.

A decent gap-filler, if nothing else..........2002-03-04

Although it does contain a pretty wide array of illustrations, I was somewhat disappointed by Robotech Art 2. It's only about half as thick as its other two literary brethren. It does have plenty of new, original art in it, mostly done by North American-based renderers. A lot of it is pretty good, but there's a few illustrations here & there that aren't quite up to snuff quality-wise in my opinion. The most notable contributing artist is Phil Foglio, known in the underground comics scene for his work on `Buck Godot' and `XXXenophiles'.

There are a few parts that help bring this volume up a bit, however, including some previously-unreleased character concept sketches and the text history of Robotech, including its origins and how it was re-made into the saga for the North American TV audience. But other than these little upsides, Art 2 isn't all that big a deal. Unless you're a completist, just stick with the other two Robotech Art Books, and don't worry too much about this outing.

`Late

The only true "art" book in the series........1999-12-12

Robotech Art 2 was published almost as an afterthought; the publishers were overwhelmed by the popularity of the first volume, and wanted to capture some more consumer dollars before the popularity of Robotech waned.

Oddly, of the 3 Art books, this volume is the only one to truly be an art book. Volume 1 is an episodic overview of the original series, along with an introduction to the world of anime; volume 3 is an overview of the failed Sentinels series, and a long, informative essay on the business-end of the Sentinels production. Volume 2, however, concentrates on fan art. The results are highly varied- there are some excellent artists represented (many of whom are professionals in the comic book industry), and many quite amateurish works.

The book also contains reprints of various cels, background paintings, character sketches, and paintings by character designer Haruhiko Mikimoto; however, most of this work is available elsewhere. Finally, there is a short essay on robots in Japanese culture by Frederik Schodt, which is informative, but seems out of place in this particular volume.

The book isn't worth paying a lot of money for- there is little here important to the Robotech mythos. It is worth having, however, if you want to complete your set of Robotech Arts, or if you are a die-hard Robotech fan.

THIS IS A MUST HAVE BOOK FOR ALL THOSE "DIE HARD" ROBOTECH FANS STILL BREATHING OUT THERE!THIS BOOK IS PACKED WITH STUNING PICTURES FROM THE PENS OF FANS WHO IN THEIR SPARE TIME ALSO HAPPEN TO DOUBLE AS ARTISTS.WHAT MAKES THIS A GREAT BOOK IS THE FACT THAT ALMOST ALL OF THE ART IS NEW AND NOT ONLY CELLS FROM THE ORIGINAL SERIES.IN MY NOT SO OBJECTIVE OPPINION IT RATES A FIVE.

The Rational Unified Process, or RUP, is a software engineering methodology that attempts to map out and document all parts of a software development project. It's extremely comprehensive, but it's also adaptable to whatever level of effort is appropriate for your situation. This book, Adopting The Rational Unified Process, will not teach you RUP, but it will help guide you during the implementation process.

The authors have had extensive implementation experience with RUP, and they share their methodology of what works and what doesn't when it comes time to consider a RUP implementation for your organization. While RUP can be overwhelming to look at and imagine within your company, Bergstrom and Raberg help you understand each step of what is needed during an implementation. Plenty of time is spent assessing your organization and processes so that you can get a good fit and determination of what RUP pieces make sense given your particular situation.

In my view, this book is probably best used by a project manager or team leader who is responsible for implementing a RUP project. If you are reading this material in conjunction with an actual real-life implementation, you'll get the most out of the information.

Conclusion
If you've had instruction in RUP and now need to take the next steps for implementation, this would be a good choice to assist you in that process.

Superb for novice RUP engineers.......2004-04-21

This book is perfect for the new process engineer who is faced with the job of implementing RUP for their organization. Provides a great roadmap for following but not enough to do it alone - you will need a good mentor with experience doing this. This is one to add to the growing list of books you should read to be successful at RUP adoptions.

This book is a very well structured and easy to read book that explains step by step how to be successful in adopting the Rational Unified Process. If you are a company that wishes to consider the RUP you should buy and read this book preferably before you start because it will give you excellent advice to follow before it is too late and prevent mistakes and back tracking.

It's basically a "how-to" guide on making RUP work for you. And right off the bat, it lets you know that RUP is meant to be picked apart.

It explains strategies in getting the members of your team to buy into RUP's concepts, as well as getting management to support it. It also maps out a proposed strategy for using RUP not only in new projects, but for inserting it into work already ongoing.

It's written with a very friendly tone, and explained in plain English, with short, to the point chapters, making it a very easy read. It's also organized very logically, and features many of the RUP templates, as well as UML diagrams and schematics that reinforce the lessons learned. The book also does a good job of demonstrating the concepts mentioned, by giving examples of how RUP is used, and then follows it up with an outstanding appendix highlighting many well-known businesses using RUP in their operations.

Because of the clarity of writing, proven examples, and exhibits, this book would make an outstanding addition to the curriculum for either a software engineering course or business class.
