Description:
This paper develops a bootstrap theory for models including autoregressive time series with roots approaching to unity as the sample size increases. In particular, we consider the processes with roots converging to unity with rates slower than n^-^1. We call such processes weakly integrated processes. It is established that the bootstrap relying on the estimated autoregressive model is generally consistent for the weakly integrated processes. Both the sample and bootstrap statistics of the weakly integrated processes are shown to yield the same normal asymptotics. Moreover, for the asymptotically pivotal statistics of the weakly integrated processes, the bootstrap is expected to provide an asymptotic refinement and give better approximations for the finite sample distributions than the first order asymptotic theory. For the weakly integrated processes, the magnitudes of potential refinements by the bootstrap are shown to be proportional to the rate at which the root of the underlying process converges to unity. The order of boostrap refinement can be as large as o(n^-^1^/^2^+^@e) for any @e>0. Our theory helps to explain the actual improvements observed by many practitioners, which are made by the use of the bootstrap in analyzing the models with roots close to unity.

Book Description
This is an introduction to, and overview of, the asymptotic analysis of economic inference techniques for models which contain integrated processes. It concentrates on explaining the probability foundations of such analysis. It starts with the required probability theory and continues to analyze properties of least squares-based methods in regressions with integrated processes and concludes with an asymptotic analysis of likelihood functions.

Book Description
The author examines the theory and practice of government interventions in the financial sector of two newly industrializing countries, Brazil and South Korea. Findings from this study help to explain the widespread use of such interventions despite the generally negative predictions (of inefficiencies and general failure) which derive from more prominent and traditional theories. This work contributes a political-economic exploration of how, when, and what kinds of financial regulations can be successful. Historical and institutional analysis of the use of capital controls, credit controls, and economic planning in Brazil and the Republic of Korea illuminate the ways in which strategic use of specific financial controls facilitate these countries's efforts to industrialize rapidly, and solve the problems of capital creation, productivity, preservation, and disciplined management.

Book Description
Some scholars argue that the free movement of capital across borders enhances welfare; others claim it represents a clear peril, especially for emerging nations. In Capital Controls and Capital Flows in Emerging Economies, an esteemed group of contributors examines both the advantages and the pitfalls of restricting capital mobility in these emerging nations.
In the aftermath of the East Asian currency crises of 1997, the authors consider mechanisms that eight countries have used to control capital inflows and evaluate their effectiveness in altering the maturity of the resulting external debt and reducing macroeconomic vulnerability. This volume is essential reading for all those interested in emerging nations and the costs and benefits of restricting international capital flows.

Book Description
In this challenging volume, distinguished economists evaluate capital control and capital account liberalization choices facing policymakers in emerging market economies. These issues are explored within the context of economic efficiency, economic structure, and political consequences. Critically assessing traditional positions on the timing and degree of liberalization of trade and capital flows, the contributors also consider newer arguments from the fields of public choice, financial economics, and industrial organizations.

Book Description
Capitalism, Not Globalism shows that, while much has been made of recent changes in the international economy, the mechanisms by which politicians control the economy have not changed throughout the postwar period. Challenging both traditional and revisionist globalization theorists, William Roberts Clark argues that increased financial integration has led to neither a widening nor a narrowing of partisan differences in macroeconomic polices or outcomes. Rather, he shows that the absence of partisan differences in macroeconomic policy is a long-standing feature of democratic capitalist societies that can be traced to politicians' attempts to use the economy to help them survive in office.
Changes in the structural landscape such as increased capital mobility and central bank independence do not necessarily diminish the ability of politicians to control the economy, but they do shape the strategies they use to do so. In a world of highly mobile capital, politicians manipulate monetary policy to create macroeconomic expansions prior to elections only if the exchange rate is flexible and the central bank is subservient. But they use fiscal policy to induce political business cycles when the exchange rate is fixed or the central bank is independent.
William Roberts Clark is Assistant Professor, Department of Politics, New York University.

Book Description
The standard Ravel biography by the world's foremost authority — brilliantly detailed and documented, filled with quotations from letters, interviews with the composer's friends, an illuminating analysis of each of his works, a study of his musical esthetics and language, a complete catalog of his works, and a discography. "Highly recommended"—Choice. Includes 48 illustrations.
Customer Reviews:
Comprehensive review of the composers life and his music........1998-08-24
Chronological overview of Ravel's life starting with his studies at the Paris Conservatory through his death. Includes complete list of all compositions and discussion of how he went about composing, from conception to sketch to revision and transcription. Interesting anecdotes flesh out his personality: Originally intended to be concert pianist (Faure advised against it, and was right!); did not support French boycott of Axis composers during WWI; highly supportive of young composers; told a young Toscanini he was conducting Bolero ridiculously fast; always the gentleman--accepted criticism constructively. Could use more discussion of Introduction & Allegro, relationship with Debussy, Satie, Vines.
Book Description
What is it about anime that is so appealing to a transnational fan base? Is the American attraction to anime similar to the popularity of previous fads of Japanese culture, like the Japonisants of fin-de-siecle France enamored of Japanese art and architecture, or the American poets in the fifties and sixties who latched onto haiku? Or is this something new, a product of global culture in which ethnic identities carry less weight? This book explores these issues by taking a look at anime fans and the place they occupy, both in terms of subculture in Japan and America, and in relation to Western perceptions of Japan since the late 1800s.

Customer Reviews:
A seminal contribution towards understanding a masterpiece.......2004-03-05
As a lifelong and devoted student of Lewis -- and one who has read, re-read, written about, and lectured on Mere Christianity -- I was startled and deeply gratified to learn that the master conceived his touchstone idea, composed the masterpiece that conveys it, and perfected his popular, lean, direct apologetic style under what can only be regarded as the tutelage of the BBC. The late Justin Phillips (who died before completing his book: the manuscript was edited and brought to publication by his daughter Laura Treneer) first provides a genuinely riveting war-time context as only a lifelong BBC-man could. He then captures, with ample narrative skill and astonishingly adroit quotations from correspondence, the "Beeb's" persistence and scalpel-like judgment, as well as CSL's reservations, vexations, achievement, and finally his overwhelming success. Along the way the reader gets a concrete feel for Lewis's travel, work-habits, friendships and homelife which, though not entirely new, are utterly fresh (for example, the contributions of Jill Freud . . . ) And as a bonus we are treated to a chapter on Dorothy L. Sayers and the BBC: The corporation was sorely overmatched! From now on, Richard Baxter + CSL = Mere Christianity must become Baxter + Lewis X the BBC = Mere Christianity and a good deal of the master's pellucid style.

Great Book.......2007-09-18
Found answers to many of my open questions, many of the ticks and tricks are explained in easy manner. Book also has some code snipets which are helpful, the diagrams explain the material very well. I would definately recommend this book to every HR Technical Person.
Good Book!.......2007-02-22
It's a great book, I'm working as an abap developer within hr module, and this book it's a good reference of the technical issues of hr module in sap.
a great book for SAP HR.......2004-05-29
There are not a lot of books on this topic, never mind good books that are recent (ie: not from the 1990's)!! This book has everything going for it: It's good and it's very new. Nice that it still covers the older releases too. Worth buying.
Well organized information on SAP HR.......2004-05-07
I found it to be well researched, and the sections are set up in a logical way, so finding specific info is pretty easy. I have been working on sap hr for 3 years, but it's 80% self-taught, on the job... I don't usually buy books to read them cover to cover, I buy books to solve a certain problem or use as a constant reference. This book really helps a person like me, actualy I just used some of techniques the enhancing reports and it worked easily. There lots of additional stuff on 4.7 and also ESS that looks interesting but that I might never use. Either way I'd recommend it if you want the most current book on this SAP HR.
Great information about authorizations in HR.......2003-11-21
Everything I need is right there with a good level of detail. The special aspects of authorizations in HR are explained on more than 50 pages in this book. Although I'm working for more than 8 years with SAP HR I found some tips and tricks which already saved me a lot of time (and money for our company).
