Ernie, is an enlightened flyfisher and writer. The narrative is beautiful so are the colour plates of nymphs in the centerpages.
I was a bit disappointed in the lack of photography.
Lots of dressings throughout the book which could do with a photo of the pattern.
I regard this book as a must have althgough I feel it could be well embellished by addition of colour photography.

This is an excellent book that combines so many different elements. Schwiebert has enough biology information that this was the reference for a long time; but it is really his famous literary skills that make this book. I guess it would date me but I can remember the first Schwiebert story I read in an ancient Flyfisherman magazine - you could always tell them because people spoke in italics, not quotes!
The book is chock full of stories and suggestions; in particular you can read Schwiebert's ideas on the ideal fly rod, fishing during a big stonefly hatch and the art of matching the hatch for nymphs.
The colour plates are gorgeous and the paper was very high quality - my copy still looks brand new. If you see a copy I highly recommend buying it.

This book is an excellent source of information for anyone who fishes the waters of the bluegrass state. You will find yourself returning to it again and again as reference. It is doubtful if anyone has more knowledge about the lakes in Kentucky than Mr. Lander

Reel In A Winner.......2007-07-21
This book is a winner. The student editors are Julio Machado and Mike Yank. They have done their homwwork. They understand that their readers will be undergraduates, not their parents. They have identified the issues facing those undergraduates and offered solutions. Their solutions are based on the experience of older students that they have interviewed. The layout is uncluttered and the text is easy to read. Well worth the modest cover price.

The price adjustment process is crucial to almost any macroeconomic issue. Current macroeconomic literature freatures widely different models ranking from instantaneous price adjustment to completely rigid prices. Professor Andersen provides a comprehensive analysis of reasons why prices may fail to adjust instantaneously to changes in market conditions. This unified treatment will allow the reader to understand the mechanisms at work without becoming lost in technical details. This volume covers both real and nominal price rigidities and integrates existing results from the literature with new results on causes for failures of price adjustment. The analysis of real price rigidities includes inventories, customer markets, search and collusive behaviour. Due to the focus on macroeconmic implications, the analysis of nominal price rigidities is extensive and includes menu costs, informational problems, asynchronized price setting as well as the interaction between price and wage setting. Andersen's own theoretical work on imperfect information, a prime source of price and wage rigidity, is given prominence in the book. The volume is thus a combinatin of a valuable survey of the literature, and an original expression of future possible research avenues.

Is popular culture fascist?.......2002-08-28
No one should deny the boldness of the task to map out a history of esthetical technologies as driving forces in American popular modernity as M.T. Carroll does in this book. Concepts like hypermediation and Mythohistory are introduced as exciting ways to think about popular culture. But I have one major objection: I find it very hard to follow an argumentation that links almost everything, from Roosevelt to Rap music, to fascism. Heavy Metal bands, H.P Lovecraft and Freikorps homo-erotica may have something in common, but there is a chance that the word facism is being over-used here, with the danger of devoiding it of meaning. Apart from this, I think Carroll makes many good observations on popular culture, abeit most of them are based on other people's research. Further is the last chapter very good, and it gives the analysis more complexity. All in all, this book could function as an introductory text to the study of popular culture.

I found this during the tailend of my research for a paper on seinfeld and pop culture, and i wish i had found it first. it brought together many of the articles and book chapters i had found before (although some were reedited for maximum seinfeld discussion)and a bunch that i couldn't find through my university library. it's a great read for anyone interested in the cultural aspects of the show. book also includes a "complete" glossary of seinfeld terms, a complete listing of the episodes with synopses, and many interesting chapters. i liked this study much better than "seinfeld and philosophy," which i thought less captivating. and because many of these articles come from published works (books, scholarly journals) they have been well written and edited. all in all it was the perfect buy for my research.

If you do not have alot of time in your day and a basic understanding of Illustrator this is perfect. Each tip is just that a tip. Half page explanation, easy way to do things.
Handy reference book for Illustrator.......2006-04-15
Unlike a lot of Illustrator books, this doesn't describe the full range of functionality or offer lesson plans. Instead, it's a compendium of hints and shortcuts, many of which are those niggling little things that you wish you knew how to do, but can never seem to find in the bigger, more complete books.
I've bookmarked a lot of these nifty items: how to align items using one item as the "keystone"; selecting an object "hidden" by another object; and how to get that @&#*!$ knife tool to cut in a straight line. And there are many timesaving techniques and shortcuts, such as averaging and joining two points in one step. Not earthshattering, but a nice way to speed things up so you can spend more time on creative work.

I guess "photoshop Junkie" must be an incredibly experienced Illustrator user to know all the tips in this book. I've used Illustrator for around 5 years and there were lots of tips that I didn't know. Okay, I probably could have found many of them by searching around in the Help Files, but why bother when they're right there in the book?
There were enough tips in there for me to say it was worth the money. Why not 5 stars? Some of the graphics were not the greatest (although that really didn't affect the tips I guess, so I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could)

I do not agree with the 5-star reviewers of this title. If you have used Adobe Illustrator for more than, oh say 15 minutes, you probably know more than this book will teach you, and anything else can be found out by using the pull-down menu system, or the Help button.
Okay, maybe not fifteen minutes, but there is nothing here, no "hidden" tips and tricks. And if the creative value of this title were to be measured from 1 to 10, it would rate a minus 6.
I hear Dave's doing another book for CS2; however, if it's like all the other Kelby-clone titles, it will just be a rehash of this book with a few screen shots from the new application.
Save your money on this title, and treat yourself to a nice dinner.
Disappointing.......2005-04-11
I bought this book based on the wonderful customer reviews and was very disappointed. Most of the items can be easily found by anyone exploring the menu bar or palette options. In my opinion such things don't qualify as "hidden secrets," as the cover claims.
I did find one tip that I use (a keyboard command to reset the horizontal scale of type to 100%). It saves me, oh, a minute a month or so. At that rate the book will pay for itself in five years!
