One of the best resources to really understand the "Social Styles" personality typology. Written by the pioneer researcher, the book is written with the rigour of a personality theorist, but is very accessible and applicable.

The person who reads this book will be the most likely to succeed in any endevor where other people are involved. The ability to mirror someone's behavior and thus earn their confidence and trust is the skill that the reader will gain, if they take the concepts in this book to heart. All of the interpersonal skills a person has accumulated come together when applying the concepts of 'versitility'. It is the morter that holds everything together. Description:
This study sets out to develop a dynamic model within an economy characterized by the coexistence of public and private schools, under imperfect credit market conditions, in an attempt to provide a clearer understanding of the evolution of economic growth and income inequality. We find that any government wishing to reduce income inequality should adopt policies aimed at increasing the enrollment rate in public schools. However, whilst high enrollment rates can be sustained in private schools, and thus create enhanced economic growth, this can only occur if accompanied by the liberalization of the credit markets.

The paper examines how international trade affects long-run distribution of wealth and income. Given a child's ability, the wage differential and the interest rate, a parent decides whether or not to educate the child and how much to borrow or lend. Trade, by affecting the wage differential, influences the interest rate, the proportion of population that acquires education and thereby income-wealth distribution. Two countries are distinguished by differences in educational infrastructure and loan market environments. The trade-pattern and the distributional implications of both sources of comparative advantage are similar. Free international mobility of loans may have different implications.

Good text on American Pop Music.......2004-12-05

I find this textbook to be very good, especially compared to those in its field.

Starting with a brief introduction, the textbook covers the basics of musical sound (beat, timbre, dynamics) and then touches on the elements and sources of popular music. The book then begins historically with minstrel songs ("Oh Susanna" and the like), Ragtime, the Blues, Jazz, Broadway, Tin Pan Alley, Latin Music, and finally Rock and Jazz Fusion (with a little bit of disco and punk).

What's great about this textbook is that even it is accessible for undergraduate college students and even high schoolers, the material is presented in a scholarly fashion. I've not always found that to be the case when it comes to writings about rock music. You can find a lot of fluff out there.

The textbook also has a companion 5-CD set purchased separately. I feel it is extremely helpful, and the book refers to the recordings ALL THE TIME. It's really necessary. There are some songs referred to where Campbell was unable to get the copyright permission, but he has a Discography list at the back of the book for those interested.

This book gets four stars mainly because it's so light on rock after the sixties. The eighties has very little material, and there is only one hip-hop example (Public Enemy). The book really needs a new edition.

Don't use this book for a course on rock alone, but it works great as a text on popular music.

and took his class. I'm pretty sure he even knows me by name. I bought the book, but never read it. I've yet to return the book, so someday in the future, i may read it. But if that book is one tenth as good as his lectures and computer notes were, then i give it my full endoresement.

Fun, entertaining, and informative........1999-09-27

I am a college instructor and have decided to use this book in my History of Popular Music class. I found this book to be very thorough and concise and stays focused on relevant material. I also appreciate the use of historical context when describing a period of music. This book is fun, entertaining, and very informative as it relays the development of our pop music. A must read for music lovers--even if you are not in school!

Excellent coverage of the evolution of music in America.......1999-09-03

The Beat Goes On provides an excellent view of how we got from "Oh, Susanna" to "My Sharonna".The only problems are caused by trying to cover so much material in one book. Anyone who wants to learn why what we listen to sounds they way it does should get this book. Hihgly recommended.

Despite the small percentage of Asian scholars in U.S. academe (4.7%), they are the fastest growing academic group since the 1980s, particularly in the fields of science and engineering. ...So why would you want to hear about his life when you could get it from the horse's mouth? This book was well written, it was even interesting at times, but it isn't even close to the calibur of Stern's own writing which is hilarious and always honest. I would suggest passing this book by and purchasing "Miss America" or "Private Parts," a real autobiography of Howard Stern.

Like most of the "Bible" series, this is the place you can go when you are unsure of your next step, or want to know how to do "it". This is worth shelf space, but keep it close.

Superb guide.......2006-01-31

I've worked wirth and recommended the past several editions of this book -- and each one has been better than the last. With the Premiere Pro 2 edition, Droblas and Greenberg have raised the bar even further, with even more comprehensive information and valuable insight on workflow, special effects and creating smoothly running, professional looking digital video. The enhanced information on creating animated menus is especially valuable. I'm using this in my own work, as well as recommending it to my students.

A Fair Reference and Poor Lesson.......2005-08-27

This book started out great. After some explanation, it guided me through a simple video editing project in the first chapter that worked and communicated some basic ideas. It got me excited about learning more and then it disappointed me bitterly.

The rest of the book does not teach the way the first chapter does. It does do a systematic and fairly thorough job of explaining things in the interface but the usable examples are few and far between. This works well for some people but not for me. I learn better by doing along with the reading. This guide is woefully inadequate for that. Still, it is a handy reference. It's too bad I will have to further my training elsewhere.

I cannot fault the authors, or what might be terrific content. But the publishers released a really messed up run of copies with misnumbered or missing pages; further, the accompanying DVD wouldn't load.

The vendor credited me when I sent it back.
