    Book Description

No-fault auto insurance opponents frequently argue that no-fault may ultimately lead to higher auto insurance costs by reducing drivers' incentives to drive carefully and thereby increasing the accident rate. The intuition behind this criticism of no-fault is simple: No-fault auto insurance lowers the cost of driving negligently by limiting first-party liability for the injuries suffered by third parties in auto accidents. This report evaluates this criticism of no-fault by examining trends in fatal and non-fatal auto accidents rates and rates of driver negligence in the U.S. between 1967-89. This report finds no evidence that the adoption of no-fault auto insurance between 1971-76 in 16 states increased fatal accident rates in those states and no correlation between the presence of no-fault auto insurance and a state's overall accident rate or rate of driver negligence.

From the supplier: About 28% of California's motorists drive without automobile insurance, even though insurance is mandatory, according to a report released by the state Dept of Insurance and prepared by the Statistical Analysis Bureau. The study used census data, Dept of Motor Vehicles records and insurance company data to compile the study with a breakdown by zip codes. A neighborhood in San Ysidro had the highest uninsured level of 98.02%. Insurance Commissioner Charles Quackenbush believes the study indicates that poor people cannot afford to purchase auto insurance and urges tort reform.

From the supplier: Airbag replacement fraud must be watched for by claims adjusters. The airbag control module constantly monitors the system. It can be electronically tested for proper operation through turning on the vehicle and watching it go through a diagnostic routine whichs turns on an indicator light on the dashboard. Replacing airbags is expensive and can cost between $750 and $8,400.

From the supplier: Insurance industry groups had varied reactions to the Transportation Dept's Nov 1997 decision to allow some drivers to purchase airbag on-off switches. The switches will be available only to consumers who have specific risk profiles. The American Insurance Assn praised the decision, but the Alliance of American Insurers expressed disappointment with it. The National Assn of Professional Insurance Agents urged consumers to think carefully before installing a switch.

                        Book Description

Here is an irreverent, insightful view of U.S. farm programs, clearly separating political rhetoric from economic reality. Analyzing the effects of price supports, marketing orders, credit and export subsidies, and other farm programs, Professor Pasour shows how they especially hurt the small farmer and victimize the general public. He also exposes current farm policies as being responsible for high food prices and the widening destruction of the environment. This book sets forth how only through abolishing the gravy train of farm subsidies and other special privileges will American consumers find relief and American agriculture achieve significant economic progress.

Despite record expenditures, government farming programs have not solved the "farm problem." However, farm programs still command powerful political support. This book is a hard-hitting analysis of how farm programs have mainly benefitted large corporate farming interests at the expense of small farmers and the general public.

                          Book Description

This book examines the role of United States macroeconomic policy in the large and growing trade imbalance between Japan and the United States. To a substantial extent, it traces the causes of the current dilemma to failed U.S. macroeconomic policies. However, a careful examination of Japan's role in the bilateral trade imbalance reveals that Japan has exacerbated the problem in a variety of ways. Policy analyses, as well as econometric forecasts of the U.S. macroeconomy, are included.

In this world of obsudities, with people suing others for spilling hot coffee on themselves, Mr. Abrell and Mr. Thompson have added a nice little bit of (intelligent?) humor to the pot. A good book for the occasional thumb-through. Who knew that snakes were actually quite short if you subtract the length of the tail? I LOVE it.

This book is a take on Ripleys "Believe it or not". I found it humorous and enjoyed the art work of John Thompson. I like a book you can set on the table and pick up to read a page or two for a good laugh at the end of a hard day....this one did it for me.

Are you a student taking a course that requires this book? If yes, do not purchase - this is not the book you need. The book mentioned on Amazon appears to have the CD but it's not included.

Search the web for Introduction to Jazz History, by Megill with CDs or ISBN# 0131829319 (just the CDs), ISBN# 0131061895 (book and CDs) - this information is per Peirce College.

About the book itself - very well written and appears to be the start of an excellent class.

4 out of 5 stars Great book, but a bit dry........2005-09-06

There is a good reason this book is used as a text in several jazz and music history classes. This book is THE place to go if you want a definitive look at the roots of jazz music and how it has evolved. The only problems with it are that it is a bit on the dry side (hence it being used as a textbook) and that it claims it is supposed to come with a companion CD, yet did not come with one when I ordered it. If you are wanting to learn about jazz music, this book is necessary!

                            Book Description

A collection of essays written on twentieth-century Vietnamese society, Viêt Nam Exposé is one of only a handful of books written by French scholars for an English-speaking audience. The volume is multidisciplinary and represents a new trend in Vietnamese studies that addresses issues beyond politics, wars, and violence, exploring the complexity of more subtle power relationships in Vietnamese society.
The book is divided into three parts. Part I, "Vietnamese Society in the Early Twentieth Century," takes a micro approach to the study of Vietnamese society on the eve of the irreversible social transformation that occurred as the colonial infrastructure took root in Indochina. Part II, "Vietnamese Intellectuals: Contesting Colonial Power," contains biographical accounts of Vietnamese intellectuals who tried to reform their society under colonial domination. Part III, "Post-Colonial Vietnam: From Welfare State to Market-Oriented Economy," traces Vietnam's search for a viable economic model while maintaining itself as a socialist state.
The book speaks to diverse themes, including the nature of village life, the development of health care during the colonial era, the status of women, the role of Vietnamese intellectuals in the anticolonial struggle, the building of a socialist state, contemporary rural migration, labor relations, and Vietnam in an age of globalization.
Gisele Bousquet is Research Associate at the Center for Southeast Asian Studies, University of California, Berkeley. Pierre Brocheux is Maître de Conference of History, Université Denis Diderot-Paris VII.

I was new to ABAP and went haywire reading this book. This book is someone who already knows ABAP/4 for atleast 6 months or so.Even people with programming background trying to learn ABAP won't get anything from the this book.Infact one gets overwhelmed.THIS IS NOT YOUR FIRST ABAP BOOK !!!!
The pros of the book are 1.it covers dialog programming 2.Sapscripts which most introductory books don't cover.
I would recommend getting SAMS ABAP/4 IN 21 DAYS for someone who wants to learn ABAP basics

Very analytical. Long sentence, long paragraph writing. It is helpfull only if you read it from the first to last page. Not a reference. More like bed time book

The book would be good for someone who has started the programming of ABAP/4. However if you are a new comer to this you will find it difficult and having to flip to this chart on page ?? then to this chart on page ?? makes it even more difficult. If you want to learn the basics this is not the book to buy. After I learn somemore in the programming stage of my training I might make a new review. But if your a beginner to SAP as I am stay away from this for now!!

One of the best books on ABAP/4 . This is not one of those simplistic books that have large typefaces and garish pictures. Has all the technical details that will interest an experienced IT professional.
