5 out of 5 stars One of the More Interesting Books on Time Management.......2007-10-12

I have a variety of books on time management, and quite a few of them are pretty boring to read. Several of the books are just lists of tips on what to do, which often are very similar from book to book. This book was actually interesting to read all the way through almost like a novel because of the human interest stories of how different successful people manage their time. I enjoyed reading the book and best of all it did really did help me to start getting more things done - more so than most of the other books I've read on the subject. My other favorite time management books are Eat That Frog by Brian Tracy and How to Get Control of Your Time and Your Life by Alan Lakein.

5 out of 5 stars Best self-help book, highly recommended.......2005-10-21

I knew that 1 day I was gonna have this. This book is very incredible and very good. It tells it all what u need to deal on time management. I was first introduced to this book by my Dad who was reading it 1 time and it didn't impress me much at first, but I knew it'll be good someday. Nowadays I still got it and still is a Must-Read. B. Eugene Greissman (the author of the book) did a good job on this book and try to observe, relay and process information behind it. He 'specially talks about keeping up w/ time, not talking too much, how to communicate and motivate with others, how to manage your speed reading, your speed talking or speaking a bit, how to save time and money, how to memorize everything by using mnemonics, how to set your goals, what u plan and what's aside so forth. Also I accept Napoleon Hill, Stephen Covey, Warren Bennis, Patrick Morley, etc. which I read right now with the positive and self-help meaning process and discussion off they works. It's such interesting stuff! This is a Must if u're interested w/o a doubt it's still worth the bargain price.

P.S. I recommend THINK AND GROW RICH by Napoeleon Hill, HOW TO TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR TIME AND YOUR LIFE by Alan Lakein, LIFE STRAEGIES by Phillip McGraw aka Dr. Phil, The Bible, The Holy Koran, HOW TO WIN FRIENDS AND INFLUENCE PEOPLE by Dale Carnegie, LEADERS and ON BECOMING A LEADER all by Warren Bennis, plus ANYTHING by Pat Morley, Stephen Covey, J. Randy Taraborelli, David Ritz, Marc Eliot, etc.

5 out of 5 stars Self Help Masterpiece.......2005-08-03

I was so impressed with this book that I wrote the following letter to its author:

I just completed your book Time Tactics of Very Successful People. The book is truly a masterpiece, and I have found it immeasurably helpful in my ongoing pursuit to become the best person that I can be. Your book is full of wisdom and great ideas, the value of which is many times the price I paid for the book. I have read the works of personal development legends like Napoleon Hill, Brian Tracy, W. Clement Stone, Tony Robbins, Mark Victor Hansen and others and have benefited from all of them, but I really enjoyed reading your book because I found that you offered some fresh ideas that these other great men did not. I am sure that the extraordinary concepts your book provides will enrich my spirit, enlighten my mind, and serve as conduits for achieving my goals for the rest of my life. I really liked the way that you ended the book. The quote you gave from Earl Nightengale perfectly reflects my philosophy for successful living, but helped me crystallize my thinking in a way that has helped refines my philosophy further.

Thanks again for providing the world such a valuable resource, a guide which I am certain has helped and will continue to help many others to live happier, more productive, and more peaceful lives.

4 out of 5 stars Traditional time management tips plus personal anecdotes.......2005-05-25

A lively and insightful read, Griessman's book offers often cited time management tips, but then reaches beyond that, adding personal insights from well-known and successful people such as business leaders, Nobel laureates, and peak performers. This is a good book on time strategies, although the typical reader can't emulate some of the practices cited herein. If Ted Turner saves time by flying his own private aircraft, is that a clue that readers should attempt to do the same?

The time management tactics from those who have achieved successful, balanced lives are presented in short "bites" designed to inspire time-starved readers -- whether they're overworked managers, working moms, entrepreneurs on the go, or anyone in need of more time.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best business books I've read.......2005-04-14

I thought this title just deserved those 10 minutes to write this review - that alone tells how much I appreciate Griessman's work. Much has been written about that book so I won't repeat - honestly just wanted to say how much I liked it and how useful it is for me in everyday time and life-management.

        Book Description

Economic behavior is inherently dynamic. While things change continuously over time, much of economic analysis is based on discrete time, such as a month, quarter or a year reflecting the periodic nature of data-collecting and decision-making.

This book introduces and develops the techniques of discrete time modelling starting with first order difference equation models and building up to systems of difference equations, along the way covering such topics as:

        * Non-linear difference equation modles
        * Random walks and chaotic processes
        * Optimisation in discrete time models

This well-written and easy to follow book will be primarily of interest to upper level students carrying out economic modelling. The nature of the book--bridging a gap between economics and econometric literature--will mean that is also of interest to all academics with an interest in econometrics and mathematical economics.

          Book Description

Allocation of Income within the Household develops an important new economic model of income distribution within the family, one that attempts to determine which family characteristics affect spending patterns. Professors Lazear and Michael base their work on an analysis of the 1972-73 Consumer Expenditure Survey and test their conclusions against the 1960-61 survey to verify the persistence of the effects discovered. They find, for example, that the average household spends $38 per child for every $100 spent per adult and that the level of relative and absolute expenditure on the child rises with the level of education of the head of the household.

Lazear and Michael also explore the implications their study may hold for the process of determining child support payments in households that dissolve. They argue that, unless the spending of every dollar can be monitored, alimony cannot be disentangled from child support. They also develop several criteria by which income might be distributed among family members, and, using one of those criteria, they present a series of tables that suggest the appropriate payment from one parent to another given family size, structure, and income level. Their model is particularly useful because it takes account of the ways other family members who were not part of the original household may contribute income to the new household. Other issues considered include the appropriate way to deal with children with special needs and the timing of transfer payments.

          5 out of 5 stars Love is a 4 Legged Word.......2002-02-27

I absolutely love this book and can't stop talking about it.

Mr. Leeds was inspired to revolutionize the pet hospitality industry back in 1970 when his pet ocelot died while being boarded due to neglect. He investigated and found conditions unsatisfactory.

Mr. Leeds believed in his idea and went forth never minding the naysayers. He met with Ray Kroc and together started a dream come true! It is an interesting book from an animal lover's perspective as well as an entrepreneurial adventure. I am very glad to see that he has done so well! Mr. Leeds has a heart for all of God's creatures. I found it interesting that when he and Ray Kroc were first beginning, taking the risk of starting this new business that they found time to fundraise for Save-A-Pet shelter. American Pet Motels is more than a profit seeking enterprise. It is a dream come true. My friends rave about the service in Prairie View. It was interesting to see how it all started!

5 out of 5 stars The story of animal lovers around the world.......2001-11-11

Pet owners and animal lovers will find plenty to enjoy in Love Is A Four-Legged Word, the story of animal lovers around the world. The authors lost their pet and set out to build a system which would care for pets. Love Is A Four-Legged Word tells of a pet lover's belief in their system and how a dream was built.

            Book Description

This book offers a comprehensive look at musical representations of native America from the pre colonial past through the American West and up to the present. The discussion covers a wide range of topics, from the ballets of Lully in the court of Louis XIV to popular ballads of the nineteenth century; from eighteenth-century British-American theater to the musical theater of Irving Berlin; from chamber music by Dvoˆrák to film music for Apaches in Hollywood Westerns.

Michael Pisani demonstrates how European colonists and their descendants were fascinated by the idea of race and ethnicity in music, and he examines how music contributed to the complex process of cultural mediation. Pisani reveals how certain themes and metaphors changed over the centuries and shows how much of this “Indian music,” which was and continues to be largely imagined, alternately idealized and vilified the peoples of native America.

3 out of 5 stars For those who want the background..........2003-09-22

This is a very good book for those who need to understand this British soap's plot history. It's easy reading without giving away much. But those reviewers who think that Eastenders is "realistic" have obviously never lived in the East End of London. No one utters the "F word", hardly anyone smokes, and all the incestuous and adulterous relationships on the show make it appear as if there were a shortage of people in the UK. Everyone in Walford has shagged a cousin, a friend's wife, a neighbor, a son-in-law at least once. Realistic? Everyone knows each other's name, conflicts are resolved within 20 minutes and in the end, they're all one big happy family regardless of who slept with whom. Please! The plotlines are recycled every year or two.

Most working class people in London are decent and respectful. Many are educated, hard-working and especially among the immigrants, hold religion and education in high regard (unlike the show). Eastenders is deemed "realistic" because the characters aren't very glamorous, they speak terrible English and they're not wealthy, not college-educated. In fact, there's almost a disdain for the wealthy and the educated. Eastenders is not "better" than American soaps -- just more depressing and drab...and myopic.

                  5 out of 5 stars The Low Down on England's # 1 Soap Opera.......2003-04-06

Another confession, I am addicted to Eastenders. Why oh why do the Brits make TV sooo much better than we do? What makes Eastenders so great? Well, the main characters aren't a bunch wealthy idiots, in some fictional city at some fictional mega-corporation with too much time on their hands, too much perfect make-up who spend all day making goo-goo eyes at one another. In England, this soap is about the working class, struggling with their jobs at the local pub, the laundrymat, local small gorcery store, the cafe, etc. The women look like REAL women, they use a huge variety of people, you know, like you find in the actual world? Don't get me wrong, there are some very attractive women (and men as well!) on Eastenders, but they don't get all the airtime.
This book is a super look at the past, which always plays a part in the current storyline, and helps new viewers understand some of the undercurrents between many of the characters.
You should check out the show and this great history.

                      1 out of 5 stars Extremely disappointing.......2004-08-29

I found this book to be very short on any kind of meat or details. I'm very tempted to ask for my money back. There is no insight here - the book could have been compiled from a series of press releases. I think the standard of the book is typified by the 'bibliography' which seems to list every single article the author has ever written, including in magazines like Computer Shopper a decade ago. How that is supposed to be any help to anybody I cannot see. Do yourself a favor and skip this one.

3 out of 5 stars Text for Technology & Project Managers.......2004-02-25

Linthicum writes a comprehensive text for technology managers. The 500-page book describes the world of EAI in detail with an emphasis on web services. It covers the benefits and limitations of web services, provides examples of where to use and not use them, and introduces standards with an emphasis on XML. The book encourages IT to make the much-needed shift from an information to a service-orientation. As such, a considerable part of the book dedicated to emerging EAI styles, such as SOA (Service Oriented Architecture), which requires IT to think in business terms and promises to speed development and decrease integration time when correctly implemented. Coders and those looking for technical information on standards should look elsewhere. The book contains many diagrams that are crude but effective. The writing style is unrefined and repetitive. This can be overlooked if you're willing to skim through them.

5 out of 5 stars Good overview of EAI.......2004-02-19

Linthicum gives a good overview of integration approaches and middleware technologies. Makes sense of all the options out there.

3 out of 5 stars OK as a nontechnical overview, although with flaws.......2004-01-17

An OK overview, not too much hype. However, the explanations are often so brief that the more complex standards (BPEL4WS being a particular case) would be impossible to understand if I hadn't read the official documents. The figures are plentiful and often awful. Many have little connection to the text that references them (13.2, 15.1, 15.2 being good examples). Entities in the figures are not explained in the text, and the text uses terms that do not show up in the figures. Also, anyone who includes a six-page listing of XML syntax without any kind of structuring, enhancement, or occasional word of explanation (e.g., listing 12.1) should be pilloried. Despite the fact that this has become some sort of sport, XML syntax was not designed to be read by humans in great quantities.

The style was a bit too chummy for my taste but perhaps that is what makes the books acceptable to nontechnical people? And the author should really find another favorite verb instead of "leverage". He employs it instead of "use", "implement", "incorporate", "include", and some more words, all of which would be either shorter or more clear (I thought I even spotted a couple of cases where "provide" seemed intended). By page 200 it gets to be a major irritation.

5 out of 5 stars Current, and To the Point.......2003-11-26

I really enjoyed this book; it seemed to answer all of the questions I had about application integration. I also enjoyed the way this book is organized, it gets right to the point, gives you the skinny, and moves on to other topics.

However, you should know that this is a strategic book; there is not much here for hardcore developers. However, I be a manager.
