corey rudl offers only one kind of advice - bad advice.
if you are interested in double-dealing and annoying everyone you come into contact with, buy one of his products.
car secrets revealed:tips..........2002-11-04
This book was very thorough but slow reading. It made me very wary of dealers and negative on the whole idea buying a new car and doing battle at the dealership. Some of the ideas are dated and many of the "tips" are repeated in CR and other books. If you are considering this book you should consider getting the book; The Complete Internet Car Buying Guide, for 2003. (its' cheaper too.)
WORTH EVERY PENNY!.......2001-03-01
Not only did I buy this book. I made notes of each piece of advice and used them to buy two cars - one a Chrysler New Yorker and the other a Mercedes Benz. Both times I saved thousands of dollars! I started off getting outrageous info from all the salesmen I spoke with. When they finally saw the downloaded info from the websites referred to in this book, their quotes and info changed radically!
Five out of the six salesmen I spoke with called me back within two days to meet the price I was willing to pay. (This included dealers from other brands that I didn't buy). Both times I paid less than the $3000.00 over the DEALER cost as advised! Both cars were fully loaded.
Be prepared to tough it out as described in the book and you will pay less then you can believe for the car of your dreams! But I admit that the info on insurance and tickets did not help me. The advice on how to buy was more than enough to make the price of the book well worth while. I have since passed this book on to two other friends who got almost the same savings as I did.

this is anoutstanding book to help build wealth!.......1999-07-28
I've read countless other books about saving, investing and spending. This is one of the best, if not the best book so far...please try these tactics, I do. Use some of them,They work ...WELL!
Simple and simplistic look at investing.......1999-04-21
A daily task or 365 ways to save money works if you can stay focused that long. Yet, this is life and one person saying they can do it doesn't alway work for other peoples money. Specifics other than an author saying me, me, me all the time is how I have learned to invest.
Satire and your money don't work.......1999-01-16
This book is a good way to mix satire with your money. Yet, if you want real finacial information look elsewhere. If you want some simple referances this book has some redeming values. If your money is a joke to you look at this book.

I learned a lot from this book........2003-03-06
Car Insurance Secrets is terrific. It was given to me by my son when I bought my new car and I learned so much from it. I learned about insurance, what to do if I have an accident, even how to handle a repair and make sure the insurance co. is giving me what I'm due. We've asked the author to speak at our Senior Center. I highly recommend this book.
Use Some Common Sense.......2003-02-22
Unlike other reviewers before me (which I based my decision to buy this book) I found nothing, albeit a page or two, that makes this a worthwhile read. The book keeps talking about secret this, secret that, but it all adds up to just being a smart shopper. Whether you are buying a toaster or shopping for insurance, shop, compare, and decide. The book isn't worth borrowing. Mine's for sale. Or better yet I'll spare someone else and file it....guess where.
Thank you, Ron Alford -.......2002-11-01
This book has the kind of information I needed to do battle with my insurance co. Thanks for the candid look at this very expensive "secret" thing I pay for ...
WOW!.......2002-10-05
This book is so enlightening! I heard Ron on a radio interview and all I kept thinking was that I want to hear more, so I bought the book. WOW! The information in this book is something the insurance companies would want to be illegal. Probably why this book doesn't get much publicity. It is incredible. It saved me over 14,000 dollars. I know how to deal with the collision repair shops, the tow truck drivers and the insurance companies. I never knew how much I was being conned. THIS IS A MUST OWN MANUAL! Everyone owns a car, everyone gets in an accident. But no one knows what to do when it happens. They only think they do, until they read this book. I bet you think you should call the insurance company. This book tells you why thats exactly what you don't do. BUY TWO OF THESE BOOKS! Give one to your teenager.

An excellent alternative to depression.......2004-10-10
A friend gave me this book to cheers me up after I had just broken up with my first serious girlfriend.
I thought given the title she was being ironic but after reading it I couldn't stop laughing.
Lent it to a friend, neved got it back!
Great Book.......2004-04-27
An exellent book. One of the funniest I've read in a long time. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is in need of a laugh. All of the people with who I discuss it want to borrow it, but I don't let them. This book puts the Darwin Awards to shame.
Hilarious.......2000-05-13
This is my favorite book. I have nearly every story in it memorized and I find myself re-reading the book again and again. It's one of those rare books that you start reading it smiling, then laughing out loud, and soon you're wiping tears from your eyes. Highly recommended.
Great! Multiple readings will not diminish your fun........1999-06-12
I read this at a B&B in Wales; then was ecstatic to find it at Half Price Books in the States. I have lent it to many, but make strong demands for its return. You will want to make it part of your permanent collection.
The things people do!.......1999-05-28
Next to David Niven's 'The Moon's a Balloon' this is the funniest book I have ever read. Bought it years ago and lent it to a friend. Never seen since but hope to get another copy. An absolute must for the bookshelves of those with a good sense of humour.

Customer Reviews:
Most Inspirational Book Ever.......2005-11-15
This is the most inspirational book I've ever read. Let's face it, when you read about really fantastic people doing really fantastic things, you feel small and useless. But reading this book, you quickly begin to understand that you've never done anything nearly as bad as these people have done. If you failed your driver's test, don't feel bad - someone has failed it 46 times in a row. Basically, if you haven't burned down a neighbor's barn trying to test the gases coming out of the back end of a cow, or produced a safety film that actually causes injuries, you're doing pretty good.

Like the flower she sang about in Coma La Flor Selena blossomed. And then withered too soon....But her music and her beauty live forever in our hearts....

Loved the book..........2004-01-26
I very much enjoyed this book and found it an easy read along with some very nice pictures of Selena, her friends and family.
Her short time with us is a true tragedy, and for someone so young, so talented, and so beautiful both in body and sole.
FABULOUS AND MOVING! GREATGIFT! SELENA LIVES HERE!.......2002-11-13
THIS IS THE BEST BOOK ABOUT SELENA IN THE MARKET--I AM A FAN, AND I KNOW. THE STORY WAS SO MOVING, SO SAD AND ALSO SO HOPEFUL. I LEARNED MANY THINGS ABOUT SELENA THAT WERE NEVER PRINTED IN THE MAGAZINES OR NEWSPAPERS, AND NOW I UNDERSTAND HER LIFE MUCH MORE--AND EVEN THE TRAGIC LIFE OF HER MISGUIDED [murderer]. THIS IS A GREAT BOOK! I'M GIVING IT FOR CHRISTMAS TO ALL MY FRIENDS!
lost me at the end.......2002-08-03
When I first picked up this book I thought it was great! I love Selena, but when I got to the end and saw pictures of her in her coffin I was really put off. Maybe it is just a personal preference but I disagreed with the inclusion of such a private thing.
beautifully written.......2001-12-17
The author of this book clearly spent a lot of time researching because the information was very detailed and accurate from the research I've acquired on Selena. The photos are beautiful too. I'd highly recommend this!!
A must to have to all Selena fans!.......2001-11-08
This book is written so well. The book goes through Selena`s life and career. And it of course includes inside informations and pictures about Selena and her dear and loving husband Chris.I wish there`ll be more information and pictures about the life of the two lovebirds.Because despite the ugly and mean rumours about Selena and Chris ,i truly and deeply believe that they were very happy together and very much in love. They were planning their future very seriously,a new house and kids. She wanted to have 5 kids.
There are also very sad pictures of her funeral and her coffin. The pictures make you feel very sad and frustrated.I mean the big question in my mind was and is, WHY? Why she has to die? What was the meaning of this?
But i really think that this book is very useful and brilliant to all Selena fans out there. The pictures of the book are generally awesome and great!

Warning: this book may not have been written for you........2004-08-02
I first heard about this book from a friend. He had read about it through the state press. Reading college memoirs worthy of print sounded like the best medicine for coping with the fact that my stint at ASU is now over.
While this book does contain some stories of life at college, a stroll down memory lane is clearly not its prime directive. This book is meant as a guide for people in high school. As for the fun college memories it does contain, it ends up all those nights of standing on balconies and throwing pizza boxes into trees, playing Tony Hawk Pro Skater, vomiting on yourself and/while staring at girls doesnt really make for interesting reading material.
If you are curious about the college lifestyle and are a prospective student, this would be a very fun book to read! This book is a real primer for some of the stupidity to expect and a reasonable standard begging to be surpassed.
Regardless, I made a list of errata because I am unemployed and pointing out other people's mistakes makes me feel better.
1. On page 71 the author purports that burger king serves curly fries. This is entirely untrue.
2. While Dos Gringos is described as an ASU institution, not nearly enough ink was dedicated to the bar.
Thats it really.
And if you are wondering just how crazy the stories are, let me put it this way: if you ever played chandys, youve got them all beat.

A handy guide for new ASU students
By Paul Giblin
Tribune columnist
Arizona State University graduate Brian Ary considers his new book, "Warning: College Unauthorized," a work of public service.
The book, released by PublishAmerica last month, provides an insider's perspective to the final year of high school and the first few years at college, specifically at ASU.
The intent was to cover topics that college freshmen are unlikely to find in official guidebooks, Ary said.
"Nobody tells you that your mailbox is going to be full with like five or six credit cards with $5,000 limits apiece," Ary said. "When you get a credit card like that, you think it's like free money, so you just go nuts. I know a lot of people, once they get out of school, have like $30,000 in credit debt."
Ary also covers the necessity of waiting in line overnight to secure premium parking permits, the lure of high-stakes gambling, roommate culture clashes, "hooking up" and the relationship between classroom seat selection and grades, among other topics. He discusses it all in frank language.
Ary, 25, graduated with a degree in broadcast journalism in 2002, which, based on the experiences described in the book, was a feat unto itself. He didn't exactly start off as a model student.
He set the tone early for his first few years at college. It happened to be raining during the first two days of classes in 1997, so he never left his dorm room at Palo Verde East. Instead, he passed the time playing video games.
In one of the most poignant passages, he describes arriving at his parents' house in Phoenix after his second beer-clouded year at ASU.
"I noticed both my parents were in tears like a family member had just passed. Frantically, I asked what was going on. In my father's right hand was a letter explaining I, their youngest son, was `disqualified' from school. The music screeched to a halt. The proverbial house lights were abruptly turned on. The big party was over. My sophomore year, I was kicked out of college," he wrote.
He enrolled in summer school and focused on his grades for the first time. A year later, he applied to the journalism program. Again, a letter was waiting at his parents' house.
"I took a deep breath, slid my finger underneath the opening and skimmed the first paragraph of the letter until I came to `Congratulations. You have been acce . . .' I didn't even read the rest. Immediately, I threw my hand up in the air, stomped my feet and did the holy ghost dance like I was in a Baptist church on a warm Sunday afternoon."
Ary wrote the book mostly during his final two years at ASU, though it omits his senior year and his seemingly impossible graduation. Those will be the topics of a sequel, he said.
The original, which is ridiculously funny, depressing and revealing, is available at warningcollege.com.

Customer Reviews:
THE PALMS HAVE IT!!.......2006-08-17
Are you a Palm user from the days when the Pilot first got its wings or are completely new to the Palm family? If you are, then this book is for you! Author Scott MacHaffie, has done an outstanding job of writing a book about how to get more out of your Palm device, whether it is a PDA or a smartphone.
MacHaffie, begins by exploring the dusty corners of the basic applications. Then, the author focuses on using your Palm device to support specialized uses. Next, he covers a range of gaming topics from using Palm devices to supporting traditional pen-and-paper role-playing to multiplayer games to classic games. The author then discusses why a Palm device is really a general-purpose computer. He continues by showing you how to do web and phone conferencing, or find out how to configure a Treo to match the way you intend to use it. Then, the author shows you how your Palm device can talk to the Internet or to your stereo. Next, he shows you how to tweak the launcher, replace the built-in calculator, or even how to write your own programs. Finally, he shows you how to "get your hands dirty" with your Palm device.
Inside this most excellent book, you'll find hacks that explore the boundaries of the basic applications. More importantly, you'll also find interesting and novel uses for your Palm device.
Lightweight survey of Palm OS capabilities.......2006-03-27
[...] The "Hacks" series started off with some titles like Google hacks that were really loaded with good information. But successive titles have stretched the concept so far that they are nearly worthless. "Palm & Treo Hacks", while not worthless, is pretty lightweight.
There's nothing in the book that the reader couldn't easily find in one of the numerous websites, forums and newsgroups devoted to the Palm line, including the Treo smartphone. Much of the information in this hacks book is also found in the Palm user manual.
Twenty-nine pages are given to very brief reviews of various Palm applications. Anyone who is seriously looking for a replacement calculator program for their Palm can find several within seconds on the web: they don't need this book. Eight pages are giving to running Linux on the Palm. The section begins with the proviso that "Linux doesn't run on a lot of Palms." Excuse me, but I think you'd have to be a pretty die-hard tinkerer to spend a considerable amount of time getting Linux to run on your Palm.
All said, there's nothing here that can't be found elsewhere - and there is precious little that would qualify as a "hack." The writing is clear and the layout is nice. This book might be worth a quick browse, but in my opinion is certainly not worth $24.95. I noticed that at the time I'm writing this, Amazon has it for slightly less than $10. It's a maybe at that price.
Jerry
For Palm owners only: tweak your settings.......2006-03-17
Scott MacHaffie's PALM & TREO HACKS: TIPS & TOOLS FOR MASTERING YOUR HANDHELD, for example, covers more than the basic and well-known calendar and address book features commonly used by Palm owners: it tells how to tweak the Palm's settings, customize third-party replacements for its applications, play games, and use custom ringtones and weblog postings. A 'must' for any who have the basics down and want to go further.
Waste of money for Treo 700W owners.......2006-02-26
This book is all about the outdated Palm operating system
which has been replaced by Windows 5.0
It offers no help for Windows, just pretends to so You'll
buy it. Save Your money.
Nice book that will teach PalmOS owners a few new things.......2006-01-23
The Treo takes up one whole chapter of this book plus references in the communication-related. Still although the Treo is a popular PalmOS-based device, it rightfully doesn't dominate the book. After all, many owners of PalmOS devices don't need or want to have a powerful device like the Treo.
In spite of "hacks" in its name, the book isn't as geeky or technical as it sounds. A hack is also known as a trick or add-on for adding more power to a program or system. However, not all of the tips are technically hacks because they provide how-to advice: annotate everything, find anything, get the most out of the date book, how to become a better student, and so on.
One caveat, when the book references another hack or figures, the light gray text barely appears and it is difficult to read. MacHaffie also refers to third-party software as a way to add more options, games, and functionality to the PalmOS device. It's tough to please people with varying interests. It might've been better to refer to places where you can find and download software. Many people would appreciate these discoveries.
The games section, for example, has references to quite a few role-playing games (RPG) in comparison to other types of games. Most of the sections only take a few pages, so it's not a big waste if the topic doesn't catch your eye. Again, it's tough to address a wide audience and there wouldn't be enough material to create a separate book addressing only PalmOS games, student tips, and advice for business users.
Roughly about a fourth of the book covers communications, phone PDA hybrid tips, and multimedia. So those who have basic PDAs without any connections still get a bulk of information they can use. The 55 tips are listed in the table of contents listed on the book's Web page (http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/palmtreohks/toc.html) and checking it out should give you a good idea if you'll find the book useful or not.
You won't find much tech jargon so the hacks are easy to understand. The book has tips for beginners, moderate users, and experts and each hack is represented by thermometer's temperature (high for expert and low for easy) for quick reference. Very few hacks are at the expert level, so beginners and moderates should have no trouble applying most or all of the hacks.
