Book Description
Zarek's Point of View: Dark-Hunter: A soulless guardian who stands between mankind and those who would see mankind destroyed. Yeah, right. The only part of that Code of Honor I got was eternity and solitude. Insanity: A condition many say I suffer from after being alone for so long. But I don't suffer from my insanity-I enjoy every minute of it. Trust: I can't trust anyone....not even myself. The only thing I trust in is my ability to do the wrong thing in any situation and to hurt anyone who gets in my way. Truth: I endured a lifetime as a Roman slave, and 900 years as an exiled Dark-Hunter. Now I'm tired of enduring. I want the truth about what happened the night I was exiled-I have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Astrid (Greek, meaning star): An exceptional woman who can see straight to the truth. Brave and strong, she is a point of light in the darkness. She touches me and I tremble. She smiles and my cold heart shatters. Zarek: They say even the most damned man can be forgiven. I never believed that until the night Astrid opened her door to me and made this feral beast want to be human again. Made me want to love and be loved. But how can an ex-slave whose soul is owned by a Greek goddess ever dream of touching, let alone holding, a fiery star?
Customer Reviews:
Might be my favorite hero .......2007-10-20
After each book, I fall in love with the hero. The first book gave us Julian, then Kyrian and then Talon. But after this book, Zarek might be my favorite. Ms. Kenyon sure knows how to create heros that are to die for. And we can't forget the heroines. Each heroine seems to compliment their hero so perfectly. Anyway, this book is like the others, a fast read. You won't be able to put it down. Zarek is the last person anyone wants to be around. He has been isolated for so long and has built up walls to protect himself. But Astrid slowly chips away at the walls. The book has humor, action, suspense and love. It's a great book and I highly recommend it.
An absolute pleasure to read.......2007-08-07
I'm a late comer to Sherrilyn Kenyon's popular Dark-Hunter series. I read Dance with the Devil last year and enjoyed it, but couldn't appreciate it or its characters until after I read the preceding books in the series. Having read all of the books in this series in one week (they are positively infectious!), Zerek's story continues to remain my favorite.
Zerek showed up in Talon's story "Night Embrace" with a set of metal claws on his fingers, and one hell of a deadly attitude. Torn between his conscience and his innate distrust of people after his life as a Roman slave, Zerek is absolutely the most tragic of heroes in this series. Feared by the rest of the Dark-Hunters, Zerek is banished to Alaska where the cold, desolate terrain becomes a strong juxtaposition for his character.
Dance With The Devil (A Dark-Hunter Novel, Book 4) is Zerek's story of judgment and the opportunity for redemption. Astrid, sister to the fates, is sent to Alaska to judge Zerek's mental stability and decide his innocence of past crimes. Having never judged a man innocent, Astrid is unsure of the man everyone claims to be guilty, and even more hesitant when she finds herself falling desperately in love with him. Sherrilyn Kenyon could not have made a more wonderful heroine in Astrid. Her gentle nature and steadfast determination to save Zerek created an admirability for her character and made me sympathize with her cause even more.
Kenyon's talents were not lost on Zerek, whose tragic past was laid bare, allowing more depth to his personality. Even then, Kenyon's description of his inner conflict and resulting ability to trust and love Astrid was written eloquently and effectively. Zerek's character became the most sympathetic and well-written out of the entire Dark-Hunter series.
Captivated by its mushy sentimentality........2007-04-03
I was quite surprised by how teary I became whilst reading some of the end chapters. Sniff. The problem with Zarek is that, in this novel, he actually does nothing to deserve his stone reputation or how bad the other Death-Hunters treat him. People will say, `Oh, you need to read some of the other novels in the series to find out.' Well, no I shouldn't have to. That information should be in THIS book.
Zarek's supposed to be a mean nasty killer but he saves the mink mommy and gives carvings to orphanages. How come those all-seeing b.o.z.o.s on Olympus don't know these facts? For whatever reason, Zarek seems to love to victimise himself. Although, to quote someone, you'd have to have a heart of stone not to laugh out loud at some of the scenes of his suffering. We weren't even told about the act of vengeance he committed when he became a DH. Sadly without an occupation, he'll most likely get bored stiff living with those gods. I got heartily sick of all those black pants and motorvehicle images too. Nice to see a couple in a paranormal treat each other with respect though.
Poor Simi. She learned a hard lesson from Thanatos.
I'm hooked. And it was the mush, and the fact that everyone gets redeemed that did it for me.
By no means is this a well written or well edited novel...some glaring errors BUT that is completely and utterly irrelevent.
Love this book!!!!.......2007-02-12
This book is great! One of the best in the series. Zarek is an unlikely romantic hero, but he makes you fall in love with him anayway. The characters are great as always and we learn a bit more about the Hunters and the gang. Two thumbs up!
This is a dance you'll want to read about!.......2007-01-25
This is my favorite Dark-hunter novel in the series, to date. This story had it all: sexy tortured hero, dedicated heroine with a lot of integrity, arctic setting, dream sequences, Daimons and Apollites with a grudge, and the forever mysterious Acheron.
Zarek truly does have a sad, sad history with no childhood whatsoever. Some of the things that he had to endure were tear provoking. His brutal history does a lot to explain why he is a loner and not accepted by the other dark hunters. In spite of his terrible treatment as a slave, he has a heart of gold - it just takes sweet Astrid to uncover it. Zarek's journey to redemption, love, and accepting himself is a great story.
This book has raised the bar pretty high for me as far as the paranormal/fantasy romance genre, but I look forward to reading the remainder of the series. I just hope that Artemis gets whats coming to her in one of the next books!

Book Description
In the early 1990s, French officials viewed with some concern the emerging and innovative high-technology sectors of the U.S. and British marketplace. Fearful of falling too far behind, the French government implemented a vast array of policiesfrom tax incentives for investing in risky high-tech start-ups to new standards for electronic signaturesdesigned to promote the commercialization of new economy technologies in France. The efforts have turned French innovation policy on its head. Traditional government and bank-financed research and development were replaced by private venture capital. Professionals in France's technical elitelong accustomed to a secure career track in prestigious laboratories and industrial conglomeratesbegan moving into risky entrepreneurial ventures. New technologies, once developed exclusively by France's national champions of the marketplace, such as Ariane, Airbus, and Renault, began to be commercialized by technology start-ups.
Efforts to promote the new economy, however, have proved politically and socially contentious. Many French policymakers and public intellectuals fear that regulatory liberalization might threaten or undermine state sovereignty. Gunnar Trumbull investigates France's experience in adapting to the requirements of innovation in the new information and communications technology (ICT) sectors by focusing on events over a six-year period, from 1996 to 2002. This short stretch of time proved a crucible for French leaders and businesspeople: it saw dramatic efforts at regulatory reform; a boom in technology start-ups, venture capital, and initial public offerings; the spread of the Internet; and then a collapse in the Internet market, accompanied by a broader economic decline. The new challenges of the ICT revolution were confronted, and new policies and practices were tested and stressed.
The author describes France's new technology policy as both boldly new and familiarly French. He commends the French state for continuing to play a central role in shaping France's new economy and argues that the new reforms actually reinforce the role and autonomy of the state. Acknowledging that the government's solutions have not been elegant, Trumbull asserts that they nonetheless offer a workable accommodation of French values to the requirements of competitiveness in the new economy sectors and provide a model for others.
Silicon and the State provides important new insight into the way France has worked to reconcile its traditions of state engagement and social solidarity with the challenges the country faces from new economy technologies.

Book Description
Beethoven's Ninth Symphony is acknowledged as one of the supreme masterpieces of the Western tradition. More than any other musical work it has become an international symbol of unity and affirmation. Yet early critics rejected it as cryptic and eccentric, the product of a deaf and aging composer. Nicholas Cook's guide charts the dramatic transformation in the reception of this work. The story begins in Vienna, with the responses of listeners at the first performance, and ends in contemporary China and Japan, where the symphony has acquired diametrically opposed interpretations. The account embraces many of the major figures of nineteenth- and twentieth-century music, among them Wagner and Schenker. Including an account of the sketches, an examination of the performance tradition, and a suggested new interpretation, this book opens up new dimensions in our understanding of Beethoven's last symphony.

Book Description
Considered the summit of the composer's symphonic achievement, the Ninth Symphony is especially notable for the final movement's glorious chorale setting of Schiller's Ode to Joy. This conveniently sized volume is ideal for study in the classroom, at home, or in the concert hall.
Customer Reviews:
Not the best buy.......2002-07-07
The real flaw with this edition is the ridiculously small size that attempts to encompass a large symphony orchestra, solo quartet and choir. The result is almost complete illegibility. The notes tend to run into each other most of the time, and you would need a magnifying glass to properly study the score. My personal advice is to go for the full size version, despite the additional expense. At least, you can get to READ the notes in the score!! (The two stars are for the admirable translation of the Schiller poem "Ode to Joy" and explanation of the evolution of the recitative preceeding it in the introduction)

Big and brash, Way Inside profiles those activities deemed "far beyond the bounds of moderation," but it could easily be a cultural studies textbook on what happens when graduates from the MTV School of Publishing decide to write a book. Large, multicolored font types, in-your-face photographs (such as x-rays showing off broken bones suffered by X Games participants), and brain-candy sidebars should capture even the shortest of attention spans. Even the index favors images to text; stick figures in various athletic poses represent different chapters in the book. But regardless of the book's tumultuous layout, Way Inside ESPN's X Games offers a thorough examination of extreme sports (skateboarding, skysurfing, downhill in-line, aggressive in-line, street luge, wakeboarding, barefoot jumping, bicycle stunts, sportclimbing, big air snowboarding), explaining their evolution and why they've become popular enough to merit ESPN's Olympic-style coverage. Bios on the sports' tattooed and pierced stars are interspersed with a slang glossary and profiles on pricey, high-performance equipment. --Rob McDonald

Customer Reviews:
Great Information.......2005-03-15
I had this great idea to create a website. As I Financial Planner and not a Web designer or Marketer, I had no idea where to begi. This book provided the framework of how to build my site and how to promote it. Although my site www.livinginstyleonline is only 1 month old we have already been accepted on all the major search engines. We anticipate we will secure the customers we desire by following the advice in the book.
Another useless book.......2002-12-26
Don't waste your time and money on this one - it is full of trivial facts that are easily found online or elsewhere free of change and without fluff. I've been producing web sites since 1997 and picked this book hoping to get a "streetwise" advice. What a disappointment! I would not recommend this book even to a beginner - too much hype and typos, too little real advise. Some references to web sites are outdated, some look like a clever "plug" from sponsors. I am returning this book.
Used the same methods ... , More HITS!.......2002-06-19
I am not new to the web marketing and have tried many ways to make websites get more hits. I read this book from cover to cover and it had lots of ideas to offer the webmaster that needs for his or her site to attract an audience. I would say that viral marketing is the biggest selling point in any marketing tool. Eventhough I had integrated tons of the ideas that this book mentioned before ever reading it, I do have to say that this book is great for Beginner and can teach them a lot about the wold wide web.
I already knew close to 90% of the tips n tricks that this book has mentioned even before picking this book up, but it was a great read and WILL help the folks that are just getting into web marketing and promotions!
Plan it well, work hard and they may come.......2002-04-16
The title of Low-cost Web Site Promotion doesn't tell the whole story of this book. This book really covers all the non-technical aspects for building a low cost web site. This book challenges you to do the basics such as focusing on the purpose of your site. Next the book challenges you to look at audience selection information. If you are willing to spend the time really doing these exercises they can yield excellent results. As I walked through these exercises I realized that I had three completely separate audiences that I was attempting to serve with my site and found that I was not serving any group all that well. From the insights I was able to gather from the book I was able to come up with a more effective mechanism for addressing the audiences of my web site.
The book does a nice job a cover the differences between B2C (Business to Consumer) and B2B (business to business). Most of the section on B2C still applies to B2B sites because as the author points out the users of a B2B site are still individuals, but the B2B section addresses specific concerns of a business user.
The book really does cover all the bases when it comes to putting together a marketing plan to promote a site. The author's approach is not based on gimmicks, but a solid and respectable (i.e., no SPAM) approach for building web site traffic. The section on search engines is an extremely good primer for someone not familiar with the operation of search engines.
The bottom line is that promotion of a web site is a time consuming and recurring activity. There needs to be an on going investment in time and effort to produce recurring promotional results.
