Cool, very cool book...........2006-02-22
Loved the tips on sniping...although, many buyers can't stand people who do that. I won a t.v./dvd combo for $30. no shipping because it is in my area and I can pick it up. Also, another tv/dvd/vcr combo toshiba 24", that I sniped for $197. I paid no shipping because this one I was close enough to pick up, too. I saw this last tv set for over $300 buck in BestBuy...is that a deal or what. I love eBay. And I know for a fact those other tv's are worth way over $30 bucks, as well. I already have people in my local area who agreed to pay me $85 dollars for it and I haven't even picked it up, yet. $55 dollar profit without doing much...not bad. I love sniping...it's fun!

One of the best eBay books.......2005-04-02
This book is great. It contains a wealth of information that is not found in other books. It is probably not the best book to read first if you are just starting out, because it can make eBay seem a bit overwhelming. This book is worth buying.

Looking Under eBay's Skirts.......2004-09-09
Ah eBay. Purveyor of treasures and reliever of junk. Is there a bigger garage sale in the world? I think not! But there are many ways to make it easier to make your "millions" on eBay then the old fashion way. (You still have to "earn it" however.)
Within this list of 100 tips and tools you will get an insider's look on how to become the most effective buyer or seller on eBay you can be. Being a novice myself, I learned more from this book than all the other eBay books combined. It cuts all the cutsie fluff and gets to the business end of the eBay: making you money.
An easy start is getting the eBay Toolbar. You should already be using the Google Toolbar so you know how much easier the eBay Toolbar can make your buying and selling. But for me selling was my main focus in eBay Hacks and I was not disappointed. I found how to automate sending my payment instructions using built-in PayPal service that I didn't even know existed. The then there was the prepaid mailing slips that will save me hours of time in line at the Post Office. But wait, I found out that I could generate these prepaid shipping labels from my PayPal account also. What doesn't this marriage between PayPal and eBay NOT bring forth?
But the one that will probable make me the most money is using The Merchant and Editor Kits on eBay. On them I can create search boxes and category listing that I can host on my own web site and make going to my or other's auction a breeze; and I get paid for them doing so. Now how cool is that?
Great guide but needs updating.......2004-08-26
This book is excellent for both the novice and experienced eBayer alike. Everyone who uses eBay regularly should be able to take something away from this book.
As a previous reviewer has stated, some of the tips are common sense, and come straight off the ebay site. However, its great to have these tips in one place and easily referenced. This can serve as a checklist for your own buying and selling procedures.
PS: Second edition has now been released. Make sure you are buying the new one.
The one big negative - no coverage of the latest 'bid sniping software'. This automates your bidding, allows better planning, does not increase the sell value early in the auction and maximizes the chance of winning (by placing a bid in the last seconds of auction). This software isn't highly publicized by ebay.
This is a great book, but look out for newer texts covering the latest auction software.
eBay Hacks - Awesome Book.......2004-07-29
eBay Hacks isn't a 'how to use eBay' book, and it doesn't try to be. Instead, it's a great collection of strategies, advice, and software tools to be used when buying and selling on eBay. I have already increased my sales and found new ways to save time creating auctions. And for buyers, there are sniping and searching hacks. The code is a little over my head, but maybe someday... Altogether, an awesome book, and a must for anyone who uses eBay.

Whoever wrote the first review has no idea what they are talking about because this book has everything to do with Buddy Rich. It was written by his teacher (Henry Adler) because Buddy could not read music. This book includes rudiments which you do first in singles then bouce them out. Trust me this that is how this book is taught and used correctly. I know that because my private instructor is the man who revised the book and also took lessons with Henry Adler. This book is useful to anyone that plays drums including highly talented and experienced players. This book if used regularly and correctly will get your hands into the best shape possible, for matched and traditional players. I would highly reccomend this book to any one looking to get their hands in shape and wanting a strong base for their drumming.
"Buddys" book.........2004-02-04
Lets be clear on this, Buddy did not write a single lession in this book, not to take anyting away from his gift but music notation was not his thing, He signed up for the cash and was given a lump sum for his name and a few pictures...Having said that, the book is fine for learning how to progress with your rudiments.

This isn't a bad book, but then again, it doesn't have much to delineate itself from other rudiment books, or justify the price tag. It does contain a nice variety of rudiments and variations on rudiments, but it lacks a spiral binding (i.e. - you can't easily put the book up on a music stand), which makes it less than ideal when it comes time to actually try to use the book.
It's copyright 1942, and the pictures of Buddy on the inside seem to be of that era. Otherwise, it has absolutely nothing to do with Buddy Rich; the book appears to have been written by Henry Adler.
Good book, but "stick" to the truth..........2003-05-20
It is a well known fact that Buddy never learned to read music and played everything "by ear." This book is a wonderful tribute in a ironic sort of way, but if one takes anything away from this book, it should be that a successful career in drumming (namely, music) must include learning the mechanics/mathematics of musical notation, the language of drumming (rudiments) and the intrepretation thereof. And, admittedly, I don't know for certain, but my guess is that Buddy probably couldn't have told you the difference between a paradiddle and a ratamacue.

Essential readings for intro sociology.......2005-06-29
When I teach introduction to sociology, this is the book that generates the most student enthusiasm. Everyone likes it, and many students love it. They often discuss readings not assigned--they've been reading ahead, or reading off the syllabus, for their own information and enjoyment rather than because it's required. Yes, some of the readings are classics, in other words old. But they aren't useless because they describe a past social pattern rather than a current one; any good intro course should give students a feeling for how social relationships vary across time as well as place, historically as well as cross-culturally. It would be nice if Henslin added some newer readings to satisfy those students who think that sociology should be about the now, but that would mean eliminating some great readings or making the book very large. It would also be nice if a few readings could help students understand the sort of quantitative research results that are reported in newspapers and on television news programs. For most courses, I usually prefer to assemble my own bulkpack of articles for students, but in this case, although I might choose different readings, I couldn't choose better ones. Overall, Henslin does an excellent job as editor. The readings show students how sociological concepts and techniques can enrich their understanding of everyday life. And it's reasonably priced.

I love reading this book, although Henslin does need to do some serious updates. I noticed little difference between the 7th and the 12th edition. Please update!
Something for Everyone in Henslin's Book!.......2003-12-02
I read this book because I loved my sociology textbook (also by Henslin) so much. (Yeah, I'm a dork.) While some of the articles in this book are a bit outdated as another reviewer pointed out, this book has something for everyone. From the classic essay on the "Saints" and the "Roughnecks" to the humorous description of how a "Nacirema" brushes his teeth (you WILL feel sheepish when you finish reading it!!!) to the account of a sociologist "posing" as homeless person for a week, there's got to be something in here you'll find interesting.
All these articles are written from completely unbiased points of view. I highly recommend this book for everyone! Anyone who is interested in sociology, culture, people, behvaior, or life in general will love it!!
a need to update by a decade or three.......2001-11-17
A very good book to read even if you are not a student.My only complaint is that some of this is extremely outdated,particularly the story of gangs,detailing teenage hoodlums, the"saints" etc.This had to have been written in the early 1960's.By current standards these kids were cub scouts.This book needs a more complete update to be useful to todays students

This is an excellent book to introduce students into the real world of Sociology. Rather than focusing on theorists and their theories, Down to Earth Sociology focuses on real-life examples and situations in which the reader can relate. The articles are user-friendly, and fun to read. A recommendation for anyone interested in the world of Sociology.

Interesting but incomplete.......1999-07-20
I imagine this is the first book of its kind, to examine the role television has had in "popularizing" the idea of the Holocaust as a specific, historical entity. As such, much of it is groundbreaking. His chapter on the Sunday morning ecumenical religious programming of the 50's and 60's is especially interesting--I remember those shows from my childhood and his plot summaries make me realize that most of those programs, though done on limited budgets, were vastly more thought-provoking and innovative than most present-day programming. The book remains provocative as the author discusses documentaries, dramatic series shows, the Eichmann trial, and the miniseries Holocaust. He keeps the issue of "Holocaust memory culture" and questions of who "owns" the Holocaust front and center. However, when he comes to the 80's and 90's, he strays far afield from his original intent, discussing issues such as Reagan's visit to Bitburg and the recent ethnic cleansing in Bosnia with only tangential ties to the central focus of television. The final section, on Holocaust museums, is interesting but again isn't made to seem terribly relevant to his original thesis. Despite what the Kirkus reviewer said, I think his style is quite good; a nice balance between academic and popular. The book is a fast and fairly easy read, but I found the last third to be disappointing.

This is a great book. It is an indepth field for all information about the iPOd and iTunes. Very visual in color, it not only has great information but looks great. Comprehensive and helpful information for Mac and PC users make this a great gift or buy. It is literally a field guide and is smaller then a regular book so you can take it with you to learn as you go.

I am very pleased with this book. It's small and easy to transport, yet it has soooo much great information. The color photos throughout are large and clear, and the troubleshooting chapter alone is actually worth the price of the book (especially when you consider that it comes with two free audiobook dowloads). Great value and very useful!
