I loved reading this book. It put all of my relationships I've ever had into perspective and it contained necessary information I wasn't getting anywhere else. It was difficult to put the book down because the author is so warm and funny. I recommend this to ALL my girlfriends.

Many years ago the term was "GU (geographically undesireable)". I always said that if you lived 500 miles away and a man was into you, he'd make the trip and if you lived next door and he wasn't into you, it'd be too far to go. I never bought or read this book as I thought the male author was just pompous and sarcastic about women. But, read it in a waiting room and got to laugh out loud and enjoyed the style and bluntness of the responses (even if the letters were made up). I have always wondered why women can be intelligent, attractive, interesting and interested but, when a man walks into her life (or into the room or into view of her), she becomes willing to settle for whatever crumbs he throws her way. Even in a work environment, women support men over women! Wake up ladies, they don't give up their friends or lives for us. Why do we feel we must? (No, not ALL of us, but damn near all!).

This audio book is pure genious! It's straight-shooting, blunt, and full of "tough love" which hopefully will knock some sense into those of us who hang on to guys way too long hoping things will "get better". It's an easy listen, because you know it speaks to you. You will truly feel that Greg & Liz are your caring friends or siblings when you listen to their advice. I only wish Greg's live comedy show incorporated some of the material in the book, rather than the endless vulgarity he seems to think is necessary to be funny in a live performance. Stick to writing books, Greg! That's where your true talent is...

What I like most about this book is that it doesn't allow any wiggle room for excuses. (My excuses *love* wiggle room.) The truth isn't always fuzzy but it certainly sets me free.
It's freeing for me to know that I'm strong enough to deal with the truth. Because life goes on - fabulously well - whether or not he calls. I think this book makes women stronger. No more skirting the issues. Walk tall. Besides we look a lot more attractive that way!

This volume is dedicated to two recent intensive areas of research in the econometrics of panel data, namely nonstationary panels and dynamic panels. It includes a comprehensive survey of the nonstationary panel literature including panel unit root tests, spurious panel regressions and panel cointegration
tests. In addition, it provides recent developments in the estimation of dynamic panel data models using generalized method of moments.
The volume includes eleven chapters written by twenty authors. These chapters (i) investigate better methods of estimating dynamic panels; (ii) develop methods for estimating and testing hypotheses for cointegrating vectors in dynamic panels;
(iii) extend the concept of serial correlation common features analysis to nonstationary panel data models; (iv) study the local power of panel unit root test statistics; (v) derive the asymptotic distributions of various estimators for the panel cointegrated regression model; (vi) propose a unit root test in the presence of structural change; (vii) develop a new limit theory for panel data that may be cross-sectionally heterogeneous; (viii) propose stationarity tests for a heterogeneous panel data model; (ix) derive instrumental variable estimators for a semiparametric partially linear dynamic panel data model; and (x) conduct Monte Carlo experiments to study the small sample properties of a growth convergence equation. This collection of papers should prove useful for practitioners and researchers working with panel data.

This book, a comparative study of the Phillipines and Thailand, breaks new ground by highlighting the impact of non-economic institutions and cultural, kinship, and political, values on economic performance. The Philippines and Thailand, two developing South-East Asian countries which faced similar situations and problems after the Pacific War, pursued divergent paths in shaping their nations. The results have been dramatic, especially when we consider that post-war, the Philippines'per capital GNP was twice that of Thailand's, but by the the end of the period under study the position had reversed. In examining the factors that influenced this transformation, the author elucidates the response of both countries to the economic dominance of the Chinese minority and their attitude towards foreign investment. He analyses their approach towards trade and tariffs, including a discussion of the traditions of their central banks and military establishments. He also focuses on their handling of peace and order, issues include the Communist insurgency, Muslim separatism, military coups, and serious crime, culminating in a discourse on traditional values.

In Minstrelsy and Murder, Andrew Silver locates the foundation of the South's dark humor in the great and violent cultural upheavals of the nineteenth century. Examining the connection between comic victimization and real acts of aggression, Silver shows southern humor to be a product not of America's wholeness and national unity but of its internal fears, divisiveness, and perpetual civil strife. He focuses on the work of southern writers Augustus B. Longstreet, George Washington Harris, Charles Chesnutt, and Mark Twain, exploring a strain of regional humor that runs counter to the more familiar American comic tradition.
A profound distress about class emerges clearly in Silver's reading of Longstreet's Georgia sketches, just as Harris's post-Civil War stories reveal an escalating anger toward Yankees, emancipated African Americans and upstart women. Twain and Chesnutt, however, mark a turning point for southern humor, Silver argues. By resisting entrenched comic elements of racist acts of violence and instead using narratives that turn upon and expose the destructive power of racist typing, they created humor that both wounds and dares to speak of wounds.
With engaging critical discussion of race, class, and gender, Silver investigates the cultural fears that southern popular comedy of the 1800s addresses—as well as the various forms and "voices" it employed: Yankee humor, minstrelsy, sentimental fiction, political broadsides, Ku Klux Klan sketches, frontier humor, and sadistic slapstick. He shows how southern humor, as the product of middle-class authors who were at once outraged and eminently practical, revolutionary and conformist, anti-authoritarian and craving the approval of authorities, evolved into a genre at war with itself, stifling laughter by unearthing the trauma at the core of the comic.

Dated but still the best until...........2004-05-03
Despite the 'out of print', this workbook is still being printed by Hansen House in Florida. I know because I speak to them regularly. It has mistakes, but nothing which will cause the student grief. The reason I've been using this Music Workbook for over 20 years for nearly each of the over 5000 students I've taught is: 1. It's organized. 2. It's easy to understand and 3. It is made to be used with ANY music method. I've taught both at large universities as well as privately. This is a great workbook for the person who wants to have fun learning notes and chords. As with every other music theory workbook I've read (and that's most of them), I do NOT advise using this without having some person or instructor helping you with some of the important sections---like chords. If you just want fun out of playing the piano or keyboard---you MUST learn chords. This is found in "Level or Part 2" of this workbook. When you do learn chords, you will need to go slow and perhaps contact a musician friend or teacher. Also, the first level of this workbook only has 10 short lessons dealing with learning the names of the notes. From years of experience, I can tell you that unless you have studied piano or a musical instrument before, that is NOT enough. There is a wonderful little workbook called, "John W. Schaum Keynote Speller". Get the "Primer Level" (published by Schaum)---you will not be sorry.
For the person searching for a more defined "college method" of learning I would not advise purchase of this item. This will not teach you counterpoint or Bachian Theory. But if you want FUN at the piano or keyboard, this is SIMPLE. So forget those hyped new books like "Music for dummies"--or whatever the name. They are as bad as the title suggests. This is still the best to start with----ask any one of the thousands of students I've taught!

Groundbreaking Sitcom that Paved the Way for Others!.......2006-09-18
A great book about the genesis and history of what I believe is the funniest sitcom ever. When you love something as much as I do like the Dick Van Dyke Show, the little nuances and details are fascinating! Vince Waldron goes into great detail without boring the reader in the meantime. It is too bad that this early sitcom has not gotten it's due as a groundbreaking show-- showing where the male lead works and his co-wokers, the reality of married life, a married couple in bed (albeit twin beds) and, of course, Mary Tyler Moore in Capri pants (scandalous)! All kidding aside, if you are a fan of the background scenes of TV or movies, this book is fun to read and reveals how the cast came together, the family atmosphere that resulted, the awards won, the demise of the series and the eventual post-series cast successes. You will find this book refreshing and hard to put down and won't be disappointed in purchasing it. The only thing I was disappointed in was that some of the episode descriptions were sparse. Buy the book, read it, enjoy....then, go buy the DVD series sets or set of all five seasons!

The other reviewers have pretty well covered it. This show was as good as it gets, and it never seems to date with time.
This book is an invaluable guide to the greatest show/series of all time, and represents oustanding value. The pairing of Dick and Mary was a stroke of genius, and the chemistry between them lifted this brilliantly conceived and well-written series onto another level. Remember the 'Nuts' episode?
Even the cutesy touches, such as the way Dick randomly tripped over or side-stepped the ottoman just added to the seemingly endless magic that was the Dick Van Dyke Show.
I had been itching to get my paws on this guide ever since I read Mary's autobiography After All, in which she rightly sings the show's praises - they both won Emmys of course - and this Definitive History illustrates just why it was out there on its own.
A wonderful book, and absolutely essential for the serious fan of this unique and unforgettable series.
"DEFINITIVE" Is Right! A Fascinatingly-Detailed Volume!.......2003-07-21
This book features an amazing amount of insight into one of the very best television programs to ever grace the airwaves, "The Dick Van Dyke Show".
If you're an avid fan of this 1961-1966 CBS-TV program, trust me, you will NOT be able to stop turning pages until you've read the whole thing!
In each chapter, we learn new tidbits of behind-the-scenes information. There's info (including some brief biographical data) about every single member of the show's stellar cast.
For example: Did You Know .... that the audience laughter went on so long when Greg Morris & his on-screen spouse entered the Petrie home at the end of the episode "That's My Boy??" that the editor actually had to cut out some of the audience hysterics in order to fit the episode into the allowable timeframe? (Too bad, too. I'd love to have heard the WHOLE thing. A great episode indeed.)
The book also reveals the fact that Mary Tyler Moore stormed off the set in a huff one time, while doing the ultimately-classic episode, "Never Bathe On Saturday". She was upset because she was off-camera and talking through a door for most of the show. But, after seeing how funny the show worked as written, MTM felt bad about her tirade.
"Never Bathe On Saturday" features Dick's great line, after finding that the hotel bathroom door is locked: "Don't toy with me, you saucy wench." :) LOL!!!!
Plus there's a complete episode guide, with still more tidbits written within most of the episode descriptions.
I cannot imagine a more thorough and detailed Dick Van Dyke Show volume than this one. This book is a MUST for any fan of this highly-intelligent and magnificently-written TV program.
Awesome Book about An Awesome Classic TV Show!.......2001-12-18
This book is super awesome, it's just the best episode guide book ever written and I'm kind of partial since The Dick Van Dyke Show is my favorite classic TV show, I especially like the episode guide part which explained in a wonderful well written detail about each different episode, when they were made when they were originally shown on TV what they were about, who the guest actors were etc. I very strongly recommend this amazing book to any major Dick Van Dyke Show fan!

I am a beginner to Primavera. I purchased this book, hoping to learn, but this book was of no use. The Exercises/workshops do not give STEP BY STEP instruction to complete. I also downloaded the COMPLETED WORKSHOPS from EC HARRIS web site, but the excercise in the book doesn't mention the corresponding file name.
Finally, I do not recommend this book for BEGINNERS
