This has fast become my son's favorite book! He asks for it all the time and is also learning good manners too!

5 out of 5 stars My grandkids.......2007-08-23

I bought this book for my grandson, (2), but my grand-daughter, (4), also loves it. The book is in a series and since my grandson loves it so much I am buying more of the series. I like it because he can't rip it up and the pictures are so clear that we can use it for educational purposes and they don't even know it.

2 out of 5 stars Fun book but badly translated.......2007-07-12

I bought this book so my father who is Peruvian would have a Spanish book to share with my son. Unfortunately, he says that the translation is terrible. So, being a good Papa, he just makes up the story according to the pictures. My son doesn't mind because he so loves the dinos and their mischievous behavior.
I'm disappointed because I thought I'd be able to read it to him and work on my own Spanish which I won't be doing since it's not a good translation.
I got a second opinion from a Spanish-speaking friend and she agrees that the translation is not very good.

5 out of 5 stars A DINO HIT.......2007-02-15

My three yr old grandson loves this book and he is currently very
fascinated by Dinosaurs. It gets the message across about a clean
room and at the same time it is laugh out loud funny. The clever
illustrations are a winner too. You won't go wrong with this fun
book! Thanks Amazon.

    Product Description

The Mises Institute is pleased to present this very beautiful hardbound edition of Rothbard's most famous monetary essay--the one that has influenced two generations of economists, investors, and business professionals. The Mises Institute has united this book with its natural complement: a detailed reform proposal for a 100 percent gold dollar. The Case for a 100 Percent Gold Dollar was written a decade before the last vestiges of the gold standard were abolished. His unique plan for making the dollar sound again still holds up. Some people have said: Rothbard tells us what is wrong with money but not what to do about it. Well, by adding this essay, the problem and the answer are united in a comprehensive whole. After presenting the basics of money and banking theory, he traces the decline of the dollar from the 18th century to the present, and provides lucid critiques of central banking, New Deal monetary policy, Nixonian fiat money, and fixed exchange rates. He also provides a blueprint for a return to a 100 percent reserve gold standard. The book made huge theoretical advances. He was the first to prove that the government, and only the government, can destroy money on a mass scale, and he showed exactly how they go about this dirty deed. But just as importantly, it is beautifully written. He tells a thrilling story because he loves the subject so much. The passion that Murray feels for the topic comes through in the prose and transfers to the reader. Readers become excited about the subject, and tell others. Students tell professors. Some, like the great Ron Paul of Texas, have even run for political office after having read it. Rothbard shows precisely how banks create money out of thin air and how the central bank, backed by government power, allows them to get away with it. He shows how exchange rates and interest rates would work in a true free market. When it comes to describing the end of the gold standard, he is not content to describe the big trends. He names names and ferrets out all the interest groups involved. Since Rothbard's death, scholars have worked to assess his legacy, and many of them agree that this little book is one of his most important. Though it has sometimes been inauspiciously packaged and is surprisingly short, its argument took huge strides toward explaining that it is impossible to understand public affairs in our time without understanding money and its destruction.

5 out of 5 stars What is Money?.......2007-09-24

If more poeple knew of, and understood what this book is about; there would be no need for it to exist. This book should be a text book in every High School. This is the best explanation of what money is that I have ever read.

5 out of 5 stars Puts it all into perspective.......2007-03-24

I recommend this book to everyone I know. Rothbard has a way of making the whole concept of money so simple, from how money comes about, to the creation of banks, to the Federal Reserve. I read this book online a few years ago and have just ordered my own copy, because this is one of those books that you have to share with friends and family.

5 out of 5 stars What more can one say?.......2007-02-17

Other reviewers have already said all that needs to be said, so it is hard to add to the observations that the man had insight into what works in economics - not just theory but fact - and writes in a style that does not intimidate or overwhelm those who are novices.

There is probably nothing in this book that will be new to those who are already familiar with the issues of paper currency versus hard currency, but even those persons will be rewarded with an easy to read overview of the subject and will be have an excellent tool for introducing the subject to friends and relatives.

5 out of 5 stars What is Fiat Currency?.......2007-01-09

Murray Rothbard excels in What Has Government Done To Our Money. It is concise and easy to read yet powerful in its comprehensive coverage of money from its origins until modern times. Rothbard makes a compelling case for the gold standard by presenting the economic issues in terms that we can all understand.

5 out of 5 stars Top of the Line Analysis and Conclusions!!!.......2006-07-07

Murray N. Rothbard is now recognised as one of the foremost economists of the last century, and rightly so. Not only does he write in a clear concise manner, but he takes what could be an unintelligible subject and explains it in terms everyone can grasp.

In this beautiful hardbound book Rothbard gives us an exceptionally clear, detailed description of what money is and how it has come to be manipulated by governments and central bankers into almost worthless inflationary fiat paper currency.
He explains how gold became the most respected and trustworthy currency of choice, how this developed into the gold standard when our paper money was actually backed by a real asset; gold, and then how our governments and particularly their central bankers then manipulated the situation until all we were left with was no gold standard and only fiat paper currency of no "real" value because it no longer had the backing of gold. He then explains very clearly how this situation has led us to where we are now; inflation and the rapidly diminishing purchasing power of the paper money we hold (over the last 30 years the real value of $1 has dropped to around 4 cents!!!!!), unnecessary asset bubbles and the prospect of either hyperinflation or the greatest depression the world has ever seen arriving in the very near future!

Mr. Rothbard then rightly argues for a return to the gold standard because of it's inherent automatic adjustment mechanisms due to the scarcity of gold in the ground and the finite quantity already above ground. More importantly he advocates a 100% reserves gold standard which would put an end to fractional reserve banking and thus the ruinous credit creation/oversupply of money by our central bankers and thus an end to rampant inflation as we know it! This would also force our governments to be more accountable to their electorate in that any government allowing an unbalanced economy would face long recessions as the gold standard auto adjustment mechanisms brought it back into equilibrium; henceforth governments would be wise to provide an environment that favoured slow steady growth for their country with minimal boom bust cycles.

Furthermore Mr. Rothbard adequately counters the criticisms of his conclusions & recommendations in detail.

I think most of us that bother to look further than our noses and not live with our head in the sand now realise the United States financial position(in particular) is untenable in the long term and there is going to be a very painful outcome either slowly creeping through the financial world in a dollar crisis OR precipitated by a large financial event, like the probable implosion of huge OTC derivatives positions. Either way this will herald the end of the world's latest foray into fiat paper currency; it will fail as it must and as fiat currencies always have in the past.
When that happens, HOPEFULLY we will return to a 100% gold standard where our paper money, gold grams or whatever are 100% backed by gold; the only true currency, and sanity can once again return to the finances of our world!

I wholeheartedly recommend this book to EVERYONE in the hope that more of the populations of the world can become educated to what we have been "sold" by our governments with these worthless paper currencies we now all hold in the hope that there can be a groundswell of opinion and an overwhelming chorus to return to sanity and a 100% gold standard! We deserve it!!!

5 out of 5 stars What Has the Government Done?.......2006-01-29

This is a very insightful piece devoted to the study of money and how it has evolved over time within the U.S. Rothbard shows the evolution of our current money system and what the forces that brought its demise in our world today. If you consider yourself an Austrian, in economic terms, then this book will make you seriously question the Federal Reserve today. Besides in the supposedly capitalist system we have I thought supply and demand were suppose to determine everything right? Not exactly, and as Rothbard points out, the very institution which we trust our money with has absolute control over the money supply, which they can incidently cause the economy to go boom or bust. What Has Government Done to Our Money?, should be a book that any serious economics student, libertarian, or any one who hails themselves as a champion of democracy and liberty.

"The `government' is out there to screw us. Forget about the fact that we elected them; forget about the fact that they are us."

No they aren't. They are individuals and so are we. They do many things that many of us might dissaprove of and not do ourselves, which they get away with only by stacking the game and making us vote for package deals where most people who elected Bush or Kerrty might not have wanted ALL of the policies of both of them. We might have elected them, but in government you don't get to vote as often as on the market and certainly not for different things, thus making 'government inmpossible to customize for different people. Plus, most of the government has closed competition anyways. We elected them to run OUR lives and they screw us over in some other way, even as they might fulfill some of the other promises to their constituents. Your collectivist stupidity shows no bounds. I didn't elect Bush or Kerry.

5 out of 5 stars This book is a MUST READ.......2005-08-28

This is not only a must read, but a must share it with everyone you know. Everyone knows how corrupt the government is but this will open your eyes to read others to see how much which is more than you can imagine. America needs to wake up and smell the coffee. If you want to keep your family and finances safe, I urge you to read this and "A Case Against the Fed" and "Creature from Jekyll Island, A Second Look at the Fed". You owe it to yourself, your family and your friends.

5 out of 5 stars Makes the Case for Getting the FedGov Out of the Minting Biz.......2005-06-03

This slender volume is but a mere 119 pages, yet it is one of the most important books ever written on the subject of economics, freedom, corruption, politics and greed. One might wonder how such a tiny publication could cover so many topics in such a through manner. The answer is simple: "money", as most people know the substance, truly is the root of all evil - especially when the government is allowed to get its hands in the mix.

What Has Government Done to Our Money? by Murray N. Rothbard is the book that modern governments surly don't want their citizens to have. First the reader learns exactly what money is and how it came to be in relation to the history of many. Next we explore several different types of money, their pros and cons and several systems of accounting and banking. And finally, the reader proceeds to learn about banks, how they came into existence and the needs they fill in early as well as modern economies.

But the author doesn't stop there. This well-written, extremely pointed title lays out the manner in which central banks are used by governments to control the populous and strangle the economy. Then, we explore the roles of the various players in any economy (bankers, mints, creditors, debtors, etc) and how these players leverage their positions. Finally, Rothbard provides historical examples of how governments have pulled off various swindles by manipulating the monetary supply and otherwise defrauding the public.

You didn't read this stuff in your high school economics class and you probably never will read it anywhere else. This is one of the most informative books of its size or price that I have ever read. You are definitely getting your money's worth (no pun intended) out of this one.

    5 out of 5 stars A concise wake-up call for fiscal responsibility.......2004-07-11

I know what you're thinking: "Wow, a book on the finer points of monetary policy and its geopolitical legacies throughout history....my eyelids are getting heavy already..." You may not, however, get to sleep too quickly afterward as a result of this book-it's too short and well-written for that. Plus, the implications of a collapse in the value of the dollar and having all of your life savings being worth a medium-sized Pepsi at Burger King is not all that comforting, either. While the furor over money and its value has died down considerably since the 1970s, Inflation, unfathomable amounts of government debt, and ever increasing amounts of spending on all fronts means that asking "where did the money go?" will not soon go out of style.
Murray Rothbard, one of the most influential economists of the late 20th century, wrote this book-essentially a glorified policy memo (read: Math-free reading)-at the end of the 1970s, when America was in the final stages of the most devastating period of inflation in its history. His book, "What Has Government Done to Our Money?", talks about what money is and can be, the ways in which currency REALLY works, why more "money" in everybody's pocket really isn't "more money", and how almost all of any government intervention into the realm of the worth of money makes things worse instead of better. And just when you wonder about how any of this applies to the real world, it charts a course from the Worldwide Gold Standard years at the end of the 19th century up through the late 1970s. He looks at how great coutries like America, Great Britain, and others almost bakrupted themselves and their citizens through ignorant and irresponsible policies regarding their respective currencies. Through it all, he makes continuous and well-thought-out arguments for a standard of exchange based on an outside measure of value-gold-and pleas for governments of all kinds to exercise financial restraint.
If you ever wondered about why prices keep going up, if you ever wondered why cars don't cost $2,000 anymore, if you asked questions like this and never thought you were getting a full answer, this is the book you need to read. You may never look at money the same way again, and you'll probably be richer for it, too.

          Book Description

In 1977 Brazil initiated the "market reserve policy" to protect and reserve its domestic market for its own computer manufacturing companies. The basic assumptions on which its plans rested were fatally flawed, however, and the experiment failed to a large degree. This work investigates to what extent the policy, so carefully fashioned, fell short of its target and left Brazil with expensive and poorly made products. The author also evaluated the important and influential role of Brazil's bureaucracy and military. Scholars of economic development, industrial organization, economic history, and technology should find this well-documented work valuable.

Welcome to The "Next Stage" Guitar Book! This guitar book contains a simple learning method that will help you master the skill of playing basic musical scales quickly and easily without having to learn anything about music theory if you don't want too. Most of the scales presented are Major Scales, the familiar Do-Re-Me-Fa-Sol-La-Ti-Do that most of us have heard since childhood. The last half of the book will introduce you to the Pentatonic Scales (Major & Minor) and everyone's favorite - "The Blues Scale". The mateial presented is designed so you will not be overwhelmed with more scales and information than you need to know at this early stage of your musical development.

The material will be presented in three parts; Part I will cover single octave Major Scales. Part II will expand on Part I to cover double octave Major Scales. Part III will introduce you to the Pentatonic and Blues Scale. Each new scale is presented along with an accompanying (1) "Scale Path" diagram, (2) "Standard Music Notation" and (3) "Tablature" for that particular scale. If you like, you may record the scales you are learning and play them back periodically to monitor your progress. You will discover that by playing and memorizing these scales, you are preparing yourself for more advance scales and musical concepts.

Knowledge is power, and once you unlock the "secret" to playing scales, you can create your own phrasings and melodic patterns. You will find much more than described above in this new guitar book! On another note, you might also want to get a copy of The "First Stage" Guitar Book - Learn How To Play Guitar Easily & Quickly!, you will find this book very helpful in learning guitar chords in clear, bold and easy to understand illustrations plus more. Also there is a handy quick reference chord chart that you might want to include in your "how to play guitar" reference case called The "First Stage" Guitar Chord Chart - Learn How To Play The Most Commonly Played Guitar Chords!

                5 out of 5 stars The "1" Guitar Book.......2003-02-14

I find this book The "Next Stage" Guitar Book easy to read and understand. Most of all the patterns in this book are moveable and has made my lead guitar playing more exciting. Also we have found out that these patterns can also be used on the bass guitar as well.

5 out of 5 stars Picks up where the "First Stage" book left off.......2000-12-28

This book continues to present the need to know, nuts and bolts information that's necessary to play the guitar. This second book builds on the first by introducing the reader to scales and how to play the scales from many different positions on the fretboard. There's enough info in this book to keep a person busy for a long, long time, but again it's given in an easy to comprehend format that seeks not to confuse, but to provide a practical, down to earth guide to making some music with your guitar. Don't miss out on this unique book.

5 out of 5 stars The Best Guitar Tutorial I've Seen.......2000-02-24

The best guitar tutorial I've seen-excellent chord charts are easy to use, with logical progression that make it easy to locate desired chord. Simple and straight forward.

5 out of 5 stars A Fantastic Way To Learning How To Play Scale Patterns.......1999-11-10

It's hard to believe that learning scale patterns could be made so easy. The "Next Stage" Guitar Book is great. It also includes easy to understand tabs and standard notation. What a great deal and savings on private lessons. A Must Get!

5 out of 5 stars The "Next Stage" Guitar Book is consice, complete and easy........1999-10-27

The "Next Stage" guitar book by Chris Lopez is a work that is long overdue. The book approaches Major and Pentatonic scales from several angles to make learning easy and understandable. Every new student (and some old) to the guitar should have this book in their arsenal of information. The text at the beginning of the book is highly informative. I have used this book with my students in conjunction with our Kradl picks, and we have seen stunning progress, both in terms of technique and a general understanding of music theory. The "Next Stage" guitar books is consice, complete and "user friendly."

This book focuses on the most important part of making television and video - the story. It's an incredible how-to book with solid techniques and tricks-of-the-trade that are described by working professionals. As the senior producer of the second studio I've built for a Fortune 100 corporation, I'm making it required reading for my in-house staff. Our programs will be created this way or we will fail.
