Book Description
This new textbook provides comprehensive coverage of the key issues facing multinational corporations (MNCs) in their management of human resources across diverse national boundaries. It attempts to answer the question, "Can there be a uniform set of best human resource management (HRM)
practices applicable across a spectrum of nations irrespective of cultural and institutional individualities?" The book takes a broad definition of HRM and begins with a summary of key discussions and models in this area before setting them in the international context of the MNC. Adopting an
integrated approach, the book covers the theories and practices of international HRM and sets them in context with numerous reference to news stories and case studies developed from the author's own extensive research. The book is student-focussed with strong learning features including objectives,
chapter summaries, reading lists and an activities section in each chapter.

Book Description
In the last twenty years there has been an explosion of economic research on labor force dynamics; the movement of individuals between labor force states. This book focuses on the methods by which behavioral theories of labor force dynamics have been empirically implemented. Most attention is paid to the partial equilibrium two-state transitional model of job search behavior. That model is the foundation for much of our thinking about the nature of unemployment at both the individual and aggregate levels. Although the basic formulation has remained the same, approaches to the empirical implementation of such models has changed dramatically.
Book Description
Over the last 20 years, applied general equilibrium (AGE) modelling has developed from a small academic research program into a routinely used policy assessment tool. Major governments and international agencies maintain AGE research groups, and call for their input to a variety of trade, tax, and other resource allocation issues. This book is a collection of papers representative of recent activity in this field. Contributions have been grouped into a methodological section, a trade section, and a section on energy issues, and this division accurately indicates the focus of the volume. Readers will thus have access to up to date techniques and results currently being used by researchers at the forefront of the research program.

Book Description
The book deals with the economics of conservation of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture in low income countries. This is done by developing concepts and discussing case studies. Only discussing the issues of access to and benefit sharing of plant genetic resources, unfortunately public discussion has neglected the serious problem of financing the conservation efforts because to date the issues of access to and benefit sharing of plant genetic resources have merely been discussed. The global situation of the conserved genetic resources is alarming, mainly due to the fact that the institutes, above all those in developing countries, do not have enough financial resources. Hence, it is imperative that the costs are taken into consideration. The contributions are grouped around theoretical approaches and empirical studies. The estimation of conservation costs help to allocate the appropriate financial assistance to the relevant countries for conserving their natural resources and assist in rationing scarce resources among competing crops which need to be covered under the conservation programmes.

Book Description
Empirical Studies In Applied Economics presents nine previously unpublished analyses in monograph form. In this work, the topics are presented so that each chapter stands on its own. The emphasis is on the applications but attention is also given to the econometric and statistical issues for advanced readers. Econometric methods include multivariate regression analysis, limited dependent variable analysis, and other maximum likelihood techniques. The empirical topics include the measurement of competition and market power in natural gas transportation markets and in the pharmaceutical market for chemotherapy drugs. Additional topics include an empirical analysis of NFL football demand, the accuracy of an econometric model for mail demand, and the allocation of police services in rural Alaska. Other chapters consider the valuation of technology patents and the determination of patent scope, duration, and reasonable royalty, and the reaction of financial markets to health scares in the fast-food industry. Finally, two chapters are devoted to the theory and testing of synergistic health effects from the combined exposure to asbestos and cigarette smoking.

Book Description
This digital document is a journal article from China Economic Review, published by Elsevier in . The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Media Library immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser.
Description:
This paper discusses housing inequality and housing poverty in urban China in the late 1990s, using original household surveys. Focuses are on the distributive implications of the privatization of public-owned housing and the wave of rural-urban migration. Estimates of the imputed rent function for owned housing purchased at discount prices indicates that meritocracy and political credentialism work differently as determinants of housing inequality. The paper confirms that there has been a large disparity in housing conditions between urban and migrant households, and that a new type of housing poverty has been emerging among migrant households.

Book Description
This well-rounded collection brings together the best writing about Kurt Cobain’s life and music as well as the most revealing interviews made by Cobain during his brief career. The book also examines all the facts surrounding Cobain’s mysterious death, with each commentator offering a different take on the possible motivation behind his suicide. With its many points of view, the book presents a detailed picture of a complex man, his influence on pop music, and the impact his death had on a generation of fans worldwide.
Customer Reviews:
not very impressive.......2005-01-04
The word usage was good, not ab ad writer, but some facts were way out of truth, like how he describes kurt "and did so much damage to his head hat police could only identify his body through fingerprints. dental records were no use because nothing was left of his mouth" that is total bs. there was no exit wound, and hardly any blood. his head was clearly not "blown off" and there was hardly ANY damage to his head.. that upsetted me.. its an insult to kurt's memory
Not as good as it sounds, but not all that bad either........2002-05-26
The Cobain Dossier is a good book and is a good read if you have the extra time, but if you're looking for something with a lot of detail I recommend Come As You Are: The Story of Nirvana. The Cobain Dossier does state some facts and has some awesome pictures, if anything I would have bought it anyhow just for the pictures. Although, the thing about the book that I don't really like is each chapter is written by a different author and although it does go in order, the chapters really don't flow. Most all the information found in this book can be found in Come As You Are: The Story of Nirvana, and Who Killed Kurt Cobain (The Mysterious Death of an Icon). But again, if you have the extra time and money, this is a good book. If not for the reading, then for the pictures alone.
Dead almost 8 years now............2002-05-22
Much like Lennon, Hendrix, and Morrison, the ghost of Kurt Cobain has probably learned that there really is no bigger business in entertainment than an untimely demise. This dossier gathers together 22 articles from British and American magazines on the man, his band and his wife, each recounting the overly familiar story of grunge, drugs, stomach pains and shotguns. While often engrossing stuff, much here dwells on post-suicide events, making this not only morbid, but sometimes repetetive reading.
Kurt, to you with love.......2001-11-30
This book is a must have for every Kurt Cobain fan. The pictures are excellent. It goes into great detail about his childhood until he became the star that he was destined to be. Most of the facts are correct and you can't put it down once you stop reading it. It is true Kurt. This book represents the bad and good but I still love Kurt Cobain. He went through so much in his life - mostly difficult times. So, definitely - buy this book. You won't regret it.
Good book.......2000-07-11
This book was a touching story of Kurt's life and death, a tribute to his great music.

Book Description
Public broadcasting has changed dramatically since its founding in 1967. The growing equation of marketplace efficiency with the public interest has, in Tom McCourt's analysis, undermined the value of public goods and services. In addition, political and cultural discourse is increasingly beset by fragmentation. Public radio provides an exemplary site to examine the prospects and problems of contemporary public life. Beginning with a description of the events that led to the creation of National Public Radio, McCourt discusses the relationship between NPR and its affiliate stations and the ways in which struggles over funding and programming have affected public radio's agenda. He also examines how public radio incorporates the roles of public representatives into its operations and how its methods to determine the needs and interests of the public have changed across the system's history. The social, political, and economic pressures that have impacted the mission and practices of National Public Radio, McCourt asserts, are manifest in all areas of American life. Through extensive historical research, he examines whether American public broadcasters, as represented by NPR, have succeeded or failed to engender an enlightened, participatory democracy.

Customer Reviews:
Not that good, do not use this book to learn VB.Net.......2007-04-05
Although this book is 'ok' compared to other 70-306 books it fails at teaching at a level that is good for either beginners or for experienced programmers.
For starters it was written back in 2003. In my experience most VB.Net code written for Visual Studio 2003 in these books are less than great in Visual Studio 2005. If there was a CD that contained the code at least you could tell whether it compiles or not. Since they didn't, you will have to spend the time entering the code and debugging it yourself. There are a ton of programming books out there where you have to worry about a typo, poor directions or code, or a single mistake will cause the program to never to work without alot of effort debugging and this is one of them.
If you get this book get it only for skim reading on the objectives for 70-306 and for some idea on what is on the test. If you wish to find good sample code(included on a CD) and learn VB.Net, find another book that was written at least in 2005.
In any case you will need other books to know enough to pass 70-306 and or learn VB.Net.
Of great help !.......2006-08-08
Yes, the exam covers all the chapters described in the book. So, take your time, do not rush into the end, pay extra careful attention to the details and, certainly, it will be of great help during the test taking. This book really prepares you to suceed in the exam and also to improve your actual programming techniques. Good luck!

This book definitely helped me pass.......2005-09-15
It thought this book worked very well as both exam preparation and as a practical learning tool. I liked the way it walks you through a bunch of applications, then gets you to write something yourself to test your understanding. Also, reading the "Fast Facts" section the morning of the exam was a great memory-jogger.
Cut and paste.......2005-07-13
This book has quite a few examples. It's obvious that the author cut-and-pasted them, and no one checked 'em. I'd say 85% of the exercises work. Many are flawed by obvious typos, missing, or superflous code, such as declaring variables twice in different scopes. Overall, not a bad book, but not a great one. Ironically the 70-310 book by the same author and editor is much better, though it's a bit weak on ADO.Net.

Customer Reviews:
Helped me pass, but this book sent me through h*ll.......2005-11-02
I passed both exams, 305/306. This book was especially valuable in how much of asp.net + vb.net is covered. However, the book is so riddled with painfully time-consuming errors, it may not be worth buying unless the authors actively do something about erratta (sp?). I would have passed my exam a full month in advance if the editor was doing any "editing" at all.
The errors I found and their approximate "cost" of my time are below.
P/Invoke ex, pg 243: alias should be "MessageBoxA" - 1hr
Interfaces, pg 215: Did not mention you must save your project before implementing an interface - 2hr
Class library pg 215: They didnt tell you to change your project type to class library, or else you cant register for COM Interop 3hr
CreateObject() pg 222: Author says no equivalent to CreateObject(), In fact this function is still available in .Net 1.1, not only that ... GetObject() is also there! 0hr
Cookies, book never explains more than one way to set a cookie 1hr
Web.Config pg 589 Authors did not put double quotes around word true, [identity impersonate=true], name value pairs in web.config are case sensitive and values must always have double quotes, without knowing that, cost me 4hr
assembly linker utility pg370 The /c switch is missing from call to al.exe, also the word Exercise is misspelled (Excsercise) 2hr
HTML Controls pg 610 Visual Studio automatically generates declarations for controls that you place on a web form, the book leaves me in the dark about this 20min
Dataset pg 145 The variable dsEmp has to be *public* scope, HTML can not see into the code behind without it! 2hr
Resource file pg 685 Resource file name is wrong! 2day
Anonymous pg 704 If you deny anonymous [deny users="?"] and enforce integrated authentication, no login dialog appears to access virtual directory. 1hr
Other more minor errors ...
pg 751 #5, fs.trace.close is incorrect 1hr
pg 756 #3, btsDim should not be there
pg xliii, pure typo, answer should be C (globalization and localization)
pg131, sqlcommandbuilder not required for typed datasets
pg 412, Not actually VB.Net code, this is C#
I found roughly twice as many more errors, but I quit tallying because I was basically fed up.
I passed Windows with score of 875, and Web with 905, thanks in large part to this book. Outside of the typos and errors that is, it was a big help. I also used practice exams from a friend. But, I didn't need them. This book has pretty good questions that very closely resemble what you will see on the real exam. However, many practice exam questions have the wrong answer, have duplicate answers, or simply have questions that are not complete. In the latter, you just guess something and look at the explanation.
If I did not have my 5+ years of previous experience in VB 6, I imagine that I would have struggled a lot with this. Maybe I would have quit. I rated this book 5 stars only because I actually passed my exam. Otherwise, I gets a zero or whatever the equivalent is.
Basic Summary:
As someone previously mentioned, if you know some programming already, this book is Ok. But, beginners will have a really hard time because of the errors, but not because of the level of difficulty. If you can tolerate the errors, go for it.
Good Overview but Weak in some areas.......2005-04-25
This Book is good for people who already have quite a bit of experience and only need an overview of the material required to pass the exams. I read this book first, then went to the ExamCram book by Mike Gunderloy. The ExamCram book filled in all the gaps left by this book, giving an excellent treatment of ADO.Net. The authors of this book are good writers and I think their goal was not to get into a lot of detail, but just to give readers a starting point for further study. I do like the style of the book, it is very well laid out and the Practice tests that come with the book are very good, almost as good as Transcender. I did buy the transcender tests/ Transtrainer video and they were also very helpful in passing the 70-306 exam with a score of 800.
Best book for 70-305.......2005-02-18
Want to pass 70-305 first time around ? Use this book and the braindumps (www.braindumps.com) and you're there !
Mind you I did find some errors in the book, but after contacting Brian Reisman I received help within days !
I send my additional errata to Brian, to check and update the Sybex online Errata and later the next edition of the book.
Helped me to pass 70-306 & 70-305.......2004-10-28
This book manages to cover the main subject matter for both exams.... having passed both 70-306 and 70-305 in October 2004, I can personally vouch for the teaching style this book offers. Although I agree that the content is somewhat light for 70-305, I believe it is because there is significant overlap on certain topics for both exams (especially with ADO.NET concepts). If you are a strong .NET developer, you may get away with simply using this book as a means to prepare for the exams. For most of us, however, building a foundation in VB .NET/ASP .NET with 1-2 other books (particulary those offered by O'Reilly, WROX(Wiley) or APRESS) is the best way to go prior to picking up this book. Moving forward to 70-310, I can only hope the "Sybex" approach continues to prove effective.
OK book for 70-305.......2004-08-30
Used this book along with other materials to pass 70-305. This is an OK book, but it is not written at the beginner level. The reader needs to be fairly advanced to pick up the information the way it is presented. Read another book first to get the concepts and high-level picture of ASP.NET and then start reading this book to focus on the test.
The sections in this book on the web.config file and debugging/tracing are well done as these topics are hit heavily in the test. The end of chapters review questions could be better, but they are decent.
