This clearly written volume provides an accessible examination of the nature of disequilibrium models. Srivastava and Rao contend that existing software packages can be easily used to implement some of the relatively simple methods. This study furnishes a substantial grounding in the economics and econometrics of the disequilibrium models by reviewing the Walrasian general equilibrium theory and by comparing the two genuine alternative frameworks for analyzing economic phenomena. Srivastava and Rao demonstrate that while both frameworks share a common set of basic assumptions about the behavior of the economic decision making units, they differ in their assumptions about the ability of the markets to attain equilibrium within a single trading period and whether trading can take place out of equilibrium. The first two chapters provide background, divide the existing methods of estimation of disequilibrium models into two categories, and explain the estimation methods for the basic model that belongs to the first category. The next three chapters explain the estimation methods for the directional, quantitative, and generalized stochastic models of the second category. Various methods for testing and evaluating equilibrium versus disequilibrium hypotheses are investigated in chapter six. Chapter seven examines the assumptions on which the models are formulated and discusses some alternative specifications of the disequilibrium models. The final chapters provide analyses of the economics and econometrics of the multi-market models and illustrate how some simple estimation methods can be used to estimate the disequilibrium formulations of the U. S. labor market. This is an important volume that will aid in the achievement of methodological consistency between analytical philosophy and the estimation methods in the applied work on disequilibrium economics.

this was the text book that was used in my college intro to harmony and tonal counterpoint. it was full of mistakes and was very difficult to follow. my professor even expressed his hatred of this horrible, horrible book, but yet my university feels inclined to continue using it. if you really want to learn voice leading and harmony, find another book.

A good book, better than many others I have used, but as otherreviews describe, it contains many blaring errors. Its text is muchmore readable than other books I have used, though.

Students Beware.......2000-01-24

This is a well-designed book, but is marred by an incredible number of mistakes. It's truly unbelievable. I realize that these exercises can be tricky, but the publishers ought to be ashamed that, after four editions, they have allowed mistakes to remain in nearly every assignment.

Why is it that the majority of first-semester music students can find so many mistakes, yet the professionals who put the material together can not see glaring errors that jump right off the page? This is the most unreliable text I have ever used. It's not unusual to find a mistake here and there in technical books, but I identified literally dozens in just the first half we covered in Theory 1 class.

If you are required to use this book for a class, then you don't have any choice--just be very careful. If you are studying on you own, without the benefit of others to help catch all the errors, then you will want another book.

Conceptually solid, but many printing mistakes.......1999-10-20

The fifth edition of Elementary Harmony is a still a good text that stresses fluency in theoretical fundamentals. It moves more slowly than some competing texts, which I consider a plus. It is a text that teaches mastery of theory, not merely a survey of theory. It is much more readable (less pedantic) than old editions of Ottman. This edition is riddled with printing errors. The publisher is aware of this, and I know from personal experience that they are taking more care in the new fifth edition of Advanced Harmony. Elementary Harmony is in need of a new printing, but the publisher is seeking input to improve the accuracy of any reprint. To summarize, the concepts and sequence of the text presentation are very good, especially for students needing thorough grounding in fundamentals. The excessive errors will confuse students, but a reprint of the edition can easily correct the errors.

Pretty good.......2005-06-12

I read this book in 2005, approximately 5 years after printing, and found it a good overview of the possibilities of interactive televsion. One fault I found in the book that was somewhat distracting was his use of predictions at the end of many of the chapters. The predictions make the book very dated and don't make him look so bright since many of the predictions did not come true. (It isn't his fault.) However, the author still does a good job at showing what the world of TV will eventually look like.

802.11 Wireless Network Site Surveying and Installation guide by Bruce Alexander is an excellent guide to implementing wireless networking. It covers the foundations of wireless communication and how it can benefit an organization.

The book is broken down into the following five main sections:

1. UNDERSTANDING THE PREREQUISITES OF A SITE SURVEY

This deals with defining how wireless works. The section goes deep and explains the history of wifi and how it works. It talks about the different standards and when to use each one. This section also explains the different wireless devices, antennas, and discusses signal strength.

2. THE SITE SURVEY

This section primarily covers how do perform site surveys. It discusses about what needs to be done before one actually goes out to the site and what needs to be addressed once on site. This mainly covers identifying the requirements and selecting the location and hardware necessary to fulfill those requirements. A big part of this section describes the tools required to complete a wireless survey and how to analyze what comes out of the tools.

3. INSTALLING WLAN COMPONENTS

This section is not what a network engineer would expect to see with a name like this. This has nothing to do with integrating wireless into the existing infrastructure. This mainly deals with facilities and how to physically install wireless equipment such as access points. It covers how to mount equipment safely and in the right locations.

This book really dives into how wireless works on the physical level. It is a great addition to any library. If you are a network engineer looking for configuration examples and how to tie wireless into an existing infrastructure, this book is not going to help. Configuration examples and network diagrams would have been a great addition to this book. The author could of added another section to address these items. After going through the book again I realized that this is not what the author meant the book to cover. It is written to provide the necessary information for engineer to successfully get wireless networking built out at layer one.

I would highly recommend this book as an addition to an engineer reference library. I will give you the warning that it is not a book that one can easily sit down and read cover to cover unless you are really into frequency wavelengths.

Good Starting Book.......2005-01-21

This book assists in understanding the available systems, architectures, components, and tools of the trade in completing a design for an 802.11 WLAN. The book is aranged to match the chronological order of the final design, survey, and installation of a project. It begins with the prerequisites of a site survey, moves on to the survey and finally covers the installation process.

Of particular interest to me, because of the project I'm working on was Chapter 14 on Outdoor Bridge Deployments. Handling a small WLAN, such as across the room in a Starbucks or McDonalds is one thing. When you are going between buildings with distance, mountains and trees and periodically rain or snow in the way it is a different situation.

I consider this to be a beginning level book. It covers the basic considerations and details that I needed to know as I worked on my first WLAN. After this book come more specialized books on things like securing the network.
