Customer Reviews:
Great set of books........2007-10-10
The forgotten Realms series of books are plain awesome. They are hands down my favorite fantasy books and this triology is no exception. Read the series! If your a fantasy fan you wont regret it.
Well written.......2007-09-14
Well written book(like I would expect otherwise from R.A.Salvatore)I would, and have suggested this one and other books of his to others, and will continue to do so.
The Tale of Drizzt's Past, Salvatore has Done It Again!.......2007-08-17
To think, Drizzt was originally going to be Wulfgar's sidekick.
This is an amzing journey into the Underdark of Faerun. A mystical trip into the city of Menzoberranzan, city of the Spider Queen. There are so many questions after Icewind Dale aobut how Drizzt came to be the drow he is today, and this trilogy answer them.
The characters in this book are more of those love to hate, and hate to love types. Verna, Malice, Matron Baenre, Dinin, and some you just hate, personally Alton DeVir, Masoj, and Briza. Some you just come to love, like Zaknafein, Drizzt's father, who was the renowned weapons master of House Do'Urden and secretly hated drow society as a whole. And Belwar Dissengulp, a svirfneblin. And Clacker a polymorphed pech. And my favorite an important and true friend named Montolio Debrouchee (Mooshie), who teaches Drizzt the ways of a ranger. (We must mention Gwen at this time, because she is Drizzt's first friend... she ROCKS!!!)
It is really a set of books about overcoming your Station in life and choosing a path that fits your soul. It helps to understand Drizzt's character, and how he came to be the drow he is, and why he cares so much for a world that doesn't want to accept him.
If you love Icewind Dale, this is the next chapter, but i would suggest to everyone, read Icewind Dale first.
I always say read them in the order they are meant to be, the way they were written!
What can I say.......2007-07-25
BUY THIS BOOK! I started with this trilogy even though it was a prequel to the icewind dale trilogy. R.A paints a beautifully dark story with the dark elf trilogy. I recommend starting here. One of my all time favorite series!
The Dark Elf Trilogy.......2007-07-07
I loved reading this (these) books. I finished all three in 3 weeks, and it really helps to define and document why Drizzt is Drizzt. I highly recommend this to anyone who likes this genre of book or story.

Book Description
This book presents an original exposition of general equilibrium theory for advanced undergraduate and graduate-level students of economics. It contains detailed discussions of economic efficiency, competitive equilibrium, the first and second welfare theorems, the Kuhn-Tucker approach to general equilibrium, the Arrow-Debreu model, and rational expectations equilibrium and the permanent income hypothesis. Truman Bewley also treats optimal growth and overlapping generations models as special cases of the general equilibrium model. He uses the model and the first and second welfare theorems to explain the main ideas of insurance, capital theory, growth theory, and social security. It enables him to present a unified approach to portions of macro- as well as microeconomic theory. The book contains problems sets for most chapters.

Book Description
Modern business cycle theory and growth theory uses stochastic dynamic general equilibrium models. Many mathematical tools are needed to solve these models. The book presents various methods for computing the dynamics of general equilibrium models. In part I, the representative-agent stochastic growth model is solved with the help of value function iteration, linear and linear quadratic approximation methods, parameterised expectations and projection methods. In order to apply these methods, fundamentals from numerical analysis are reviewed in detail. Part II discusses methods for solving heterogeneous-agent economies. In such economies, the distribution of the individual state variables is endogenous. This part of the book also serves as an introduction to the modern theory of distribution economics. Applications include the dynamics of the income distribution over the business cycle or the overlapping-generations model. Through an accompanying home page to this book, computer codes to all applications can be downloaded.

Book Description
These lectures contain a masterful summing up of Nicholas Kaldor's critique of the foundations of mainstream economic theory. They provide a very clear account of his theoretical structures on regional differences, primary producers and manufacturers, and on differing market structures and the likely course of prices and quantities in different markets over time. The first four lectures are concerned with theory, history and explanation; the fifth consists of a detailed set of integrated policy proposals.

Book Description
Dynamic Macroeconomics is an attempt to revitalize the traditions of nonmarket clearing approaches to macroeconomics. Using sophisticated tools from dynamic analysis, the authors introduce a consistent, integrated framework for disequilibrium macroeconomic dynamics and explore its relationship to the competing--and currently dominant--equilibrium dynamics.
The book is organized into five parts. Part I covers background models of market-clearing and nonmarket-clearing approaches. Part II introduces short-run monetary models of macroeconomic fluctuations that build on the dynamic interaction of product, labor, and financial markets. Part III explores monetary instability in variants with capital accumulation and growth. Part IV explores supply and demand side Keynesian business cycles and monetary-type growth models. Part V considers the role of the financial sector as a source of instability and fluctuations.
Customer Reviews:
Briefly explains fundamental macroeconomics issues.......1999-01-11
I found this to be an excellant book for more advanced students (I encouraged mine to read it this past semester). The author gives a splendid explanation of the fundamental economic issues concerning monetary policy and the problems and challenges that plague a dynamic economy.

Product Description
The problem of efficient or optimal allocation of resources is a fundamental concern of economic analysis. The theory of optimal economic growth can be viewed as an aspect of this central theme, which emphasizes in general the issues arising in the allocation of resources over an infinite time horizon, and in particular the consumption-investment decision process in models in which there is no natural "terminal date". This broad scope of "optimal growth theory" is one which has evolved over time, as economists have discovered new interpretations of its central results, as well as new applications of its basic methods. The Handbook on Optimal Growth provides surveys of significant results of the theory of optimal growth, as well as the techniques of dynamic optimization theory on which they are based. Armed with the results and methods of this theory, a researcher will be in an advantageous position to apply these versatile methods of analysis to new issues in the area of dynamic economics.

The Book of New England Wisdom, Common Sense and Uncommon Ge.......2000-05-10
Great book. It is a small paper back and contains 163 pages divided into 15 chapters including "New England", "The People", "Character and Courage", "The Spirit" and 11 others. It is mostly short quotes from great and not so great New Englanders including Mark Twain, Herman Melville, Edmund S. Muske, John F. Kennedy, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Margaret Fuller, and others. Robert Frost wrote: 'Freedom lies in being bold'. Another good one is 'All experience is an arch, to build upon' by Henry Adams. The quotes are short and very poingnant and can be applied to humanity, not just New Englanders. I have one for my husband for Father's Day and will be getting one or two more to give for Christmas presents.

Customer Reviews:
Great Detail and Trivia, But Linguistically Flawed.......2006-12-04
Dale Sherman has written an engaging biography chock full of fascinating, little-known trivia, which succeeds in answering many questions fans such as myself may have had about the band. Many times I was caught thinking "Ah-haaa! So that's why..." This is in fact Sherman's intention, as stated in the Introduction. In fact, his dedication to trivia minutae is on occasion distracting and sometimes leads the reader onto unnecessary tangents.
The main problem I have with the book, besides the cheesy cover (Where's the band??) is the weakness in writing style. This may be the fault of the book's editor. There are countless instances of run-on sentences, dangling particles, awkward syntax and sentence structure, grammatical errors, words used out of context or with wrong meaning, and other frustrating language snafus. I do not claim to be an English professor, but there were many occasions when I had to read a sentence over again, shake my head, and think, "Why didn't he write that sentence this way, or use this word instead, or use this verb tense/form?", etc. It often distracted me from the narrative, making for a sometimes uncomfortable read where I was fearing the next grammatical flub, which always eventually came. Luckily, he uses quotes liberally from the band and others, and it is in fact these quotes which lack the syntax errors and are easiest to read!
Otherwise, this is definitely a decent edition to the Kiss library and hopefully future editions will be better edited and thus easier to read.
A good read amongst all the KISS books out there!.......2004-02-08
Black Diamond is a good read for die-hard KISS fans only. It's up there on my top ten list for an all KISS book. Compared amongst other books like KISS and Sell, it's a better read. My favorite amongst all the Kiss books is KISS & Tell by Gebert and McAdams... NOW THAT'S A CLASSIC ROCK BOOK. I rate that a must-read for all rock fans (not just Ace/Kiss fans).
My list of KISS reading would be KISS & Tell first, Black Diamond and Black Diamond II (for the Kiss collectable people out there).
Not Worth A Dime.......2004-02-02
Nothing in this book is new. If you read enough articles on the band you would have the exact same information provided by Dale Sherman, who happens to be just an average writer in the first place. There's also a negative tone to this book as if Sherman was angry at the band when he wrote the book, and instead of coming across as insightful, he instead comes across as petty.
If you're going to spend your money on a book about KISS, it would be better to buy one by someone who was either there or spent the time actually doing some credible research. "KISS AND SELL," and "Kiss: Behind The Mask," are both better books to spend your money on. Of course if you'd rather give Dale Sherman your money that's fine, and in the meantime I have some swampland in the Mojave Desert I want to sell you...
GREAT TRY BUT..........2001-09-07
The small type letters alone are a pain in the a..., but the author really tried to write a good unauthorized bio. Of course none of the members were interviewed for this book. The main sources are interviews conceded for magazines, TV's, etc. You end up really thinking tha Stanley and Simmons are nothing more than greedy money machines who just want take every cent out of their fans'pockets. If this is true, I don't know.
On par with Kiss & Sell.......2001-04-04
I was pleasantly surprised by this book--it's written from a fan's perspective, but it's still well-balanced; it would have been easy for it to have gone the other way (adulation).
Essentially it's the history of the band as told by various members of the group at various points in time via various interview (tired of the word 'various yet?) sources. It may bother some that Sherman never bothered to index the pages, but that's a minor complaint. My only real complaint is the lack of input from Vinnie Vincent, Mark St. John, Eric Singer, and Bruce Kulick; all off whom had valid opinions about the band, but were given little or no emphasis at all.
Much better than Kiss & Tell, and as good as Kiss & Sell (however different), and well worth the money you spend on it. Especially for an unauthorised biography. I especially liked the massive amounts of contradiction amongst the band members concerning specific albums and tunes.
I seriously doubt that Gene Simmons' upcoming book will be as honest as this one. Maybe the whole truth will never be discovered, but this book is a step in the right direction.

Book Description
Using Rather as a touchstone, Mike Walker rips into the arrogance and presumption of the news media-the elitist, agenda-driven mentality that allows its journalists and editors to ignore basic rules of journalism. Walker uses this short, blisteringly humorous book to personally kick Rather in the shins and also, more importantly, explain how real news is properly gathered and vetted, how it's properly written and reported, and why some journalists and editors think they're above such things. For years the mainstream media has stared down its collective nose at publications like the National Enquirer, but as Walker shows in scorching detail and irreverent humor, it is the gatekeepers and news elitists who need a trip to the woodshed, starting with Dan Rather.

The Misadventures of "Gunga Dan".......2005-07-26
Having read several books over the years regarding CBS and, specifically, their "star" anchor, this one by far is the most entertaining. Mike Walker brings to the book all the outrageous flair that he would bring his National Enquirer readers.
"Rather Dumb" brings back memories of Dan marching off the set, his big interview with George Bush Sr., and his bizarre mugging ("What's the frequency, Kenneth?").
The final (third or so) part of the book deals with the Texas Air National Guard memo "gate" controversy. While the results of the investigation and the firings of Mary Mapes and other CBS employees occur after the book was published, all of the info contained is "on the money".
Courage.
Quick read and very funny.......2005-03-15
I found this book to be hugely entertaining and very funny. Some detail is missing and the book was published before the final report. It would be nice if Walker added a chapter. Walker makes a convincing case that the standards at the National Enquirer are FAR superior to the lax (read: no) journalistic standards at cBS. The arrogant, buffoonish Mr. Rather richly deserves the scorn this book heaps upon him.
Kicking him while he's down?.......2005-03-14
Mike Walker printed an article in his column about three months ago that stated that Ice-T was going to revive the career of David Hasselhoff by making him into a rap star called Hassel-the Hoff. No kidding. Its there. Google it. The only thing is...Ice T knew nothing about it and it turned out to be a false story. I took this in stride since it was in the National Enquirer and Mike Walker wasn't what I considered a "journalist". I even pictured Mike Walker as not even considering himself a journalist. I thought of him, and admired him at the time, for being some one on the fringes of the press just having a good time enjoying his Irish fortune.
Well, as I've come to find out, I was very very wrong. When I saw "Rather Dumb" on the shelf in the book store, I almost didn't bother until I saw that it was done by Mike Walker. So, I opened it up, and...at first I enjoyed it.
Now, let me get a few things out of the way...
I support George Bush. I work for CBS. I like Mike Walker. I can't stand Dan Rather for nearly sinking the network I work for and endangering the stock that I'm betting my old age on. I'm not a liberal in any way, there's nothing wrong with being a liberal, however, I'm not one.
Now that that's out of the way, I have to say "Rather Dumb" is a huge let down. Maybe its the Irish in me, but, I was always taught that if you come out swinging, don't pull your punches. I got the humor that Mike Walker was going for, and pretty much enjoyed the first twenty pages of the book because I started to feel the way I felt when I watched a Mike Tyson fight in the late eighties, back when Tyson cared. But somewhere along the line, Buster Douglas came and went and Tyson never threw a punch worth dodging again. That's basically how the rest of the book went. I won't ruin it for you, there are some funny parts, but Dan Rather really needs a good clobbering, and this just wasn't the book to do it. It could have been.
Mike Walker could have written a great document about the downfall of Dan Rather but has become a victim of all of the hubris and ego that he pokes fun at since he never bothers to fact check his own stories nor does he care how they might affect the subjects of his stories whether or not they are "public figures".
I understand that it's all about ratings, money, and ads, there's nothing wrong with that. I don't pretend my bread and butter comes from caring about the common man. But when a lazy journalist points a finger at another lazy journalist, there's four fingers pointing back at him. A near miss. Too bad.
Note to Mike Walker:When Dan Rather left, there really wasn't a vacuum created for stuffy self important people who suffered from white guilt and felt bad about making money off of ad revenue...so please don't fill it. Lighten up and get back to writing about Hassle-the Hoff and his next album!
Only in the Media...........2005-03-10
Only in the media will a guy report complete, 100% lies--try to pass them off as the truth--be proven wrong--and get to keep his job. LOL! If Rather slung french fries at McDonalds, he'd be applying at Burger King real fast....
I've always thought these media guys are morons. Their egos are writing checks their bodies cannot cash. And I cannot figure out why. Rather REPORTED NEWS. That's it. Stuff happened, and Rather said "here is what happened". Just a distribution channel, and somehow people think he had a prestigious job. LOL...Rather just reported the news. No big deal..book details his insignificance nicely...
Tabloids do sometime break stories.......2005-03-09
Yes. It is hard some to believe. The aggressive nature of tabloid journalism is no different than the style of aggressive NY Times journalism.
Mr. Walker has inside contacts and resources that rival other top journalists. To deride his work just because he works the National Enquirer is nebulous and plain stupid.
The CBS news division has fallen from the top of the mountain into the mud of despair. CBS' lack of credibility has never in its history been so low.
The question has nothing to do with Mike Walker's ability to get resources and write BUT Dan Rather's despotic and demonizing efforts in running CBS.

Not so advanced.......2006-06-20
I found few interesting things in the book, general topics that is necessary for intermediate/new to php. I do not particularly agree with the word "advanced" however I do think this book should be one of the first to visit by web professionnal new in php.
Don't know about advanced.......2006-03-09
I suppose it depends on your point of view. I picked PHP a couple of months ago (built on top of long experience in other languages) - and I wanted something with a bit of bite in it, and while there were somethings I found interesting, I don't know whether advanced is a really applicable.
If you're moving from, say, HTML development into PHP, I would actually recommend this. It covers a nice range of topics - certainly pointing you in the right direction for PHP development.
If you want a good solid reference for the best way to do particular 'advanced' applications - maybe not.
My copy was printed with the cover on the wrong side - so having to read it backwards made it tricky. But I'm left-handed, so I'm used to it.
Selection of Best Howtos.......2003-02-03
You need this book just after understanding the basic concept of PHP, and start to apply it to a real website. How to connect to database(s); how to put in dynamic graphics; how to manage sessions like in e-commerce sites. Windows and Linux are included in discussion.
A real treasure for me.
