Disappointing.......2007-10-04
I was extremely disappointed in the whole set of books. I wouldn't recommend them to anybody. Lord of the Rings was so good that I assumed anything written by the same author would be good and worth reading but I got an unpleasant surprise.
collected works.......2006-11-10
It's been a while since I was able to read the original trilogy, so after I did, I bought this boxed set. I like boxed sets, especially for serial material, as it looks better on the shelf.
Cheaply Printed Versions of Important Tolkien Work.......2006-11-04
I bought this set of the first five volumes of Tolkien's history of Middle Earth and while all the content is there, the quality of the publications is mass paperbook at its worst. Dry scratchy paper, type that is too small for my tired eyes to read and cheap bindings that were I to continually use would no doubt fall apart before the paper turned yellow. But then what do you expect for $20? As I became more interested in Tolkien and realized that I would use these books both for pleasure and reference and would doubtless return to them again and again, I decided to spring for the Harper Collins three volume set (published in 2002) that includes all twelve books of the histories in an attractive and efficient three volume set. It cost close to $200 for the set because I had to order them from AMAZON.UK but I'm happy when I see them on the shelf and pick one up to read. They are a substantial presence as befits the content. (I would also recommend buying the History of Middle Earth Index to go along with these books as it ties them all together with one common index rather than the the separate ones for each of the twelve volumes.)
Wonderful!!!.......2006-10-15
I started to read the Silmarillion, and then I read these. I had never liked poetry beforehand, I had actually rather detested it, but I loved the poetry in here. I many respects, I actually prefer these to the Silmarillion because these are longer and more in depth. However, if you don't feel like reading 50 pages of something with tons of footnotes and endnotes, you probably shouldn't read these.
very good.......2006-02-22
This set of books is really good for anyone who is interested in knowing extensive history of Tolkien's Middle Earth. I would reccomend it for any person to read.
Book Description
The essays in Millennial Capitalism and the Culture of Neoliberalism pose a series of related questions: How are we to understand capitalism at the millennium? Is it a singular or polythetic creature? What are we to make of the culture of neoliberalism that appears to accompany it, taking on simultaneously local and translocal forms? To what extent does it make sense to describe the present juncture in world history as an “age of revolution,” one not unlike 1789–1848 in its transformative potential?
In exploring the material and cultural dimensions of the Age of Millennial Capitalism, the contributors interrogate the so-called crisis of the nation-state, how the triumph of the free market obscures rising tides of violence and cultures of exclusion, and the growth of new forms of identity politics. The collection also investigates the tendency of neoliberal capitalism to produce a world of increasing differences in wealth, environmental catastrophes, heightened flows of people and value across space and time, moral panics and social impossibilities, bitter generational antagonisms and gender conflicts, invisible class distinction, and “pariah” forms of economic activity. In the process, the volume opens up an empirically grounded, conceptual discussion about the world-at-large at a particularly momentous historical time—when the social sciences and humanities are in danger of ceding intellectual initiative to the masters of the market and the media.
In addition to its crossdisciplinary essays, Millennial Capitalism and the Culture of Neoliberalism—originally the third installment of the journal Public Culture’s “Millennial Quartet”—features several photographic essays. The book will interest anthropologists, political geographers, economists, sociologists, and political theorists.

Book Description
Market Imperfections and Macroeconomic Dynamics is based upon a collection of papers originally presented at the 5th Theory and Methods in Macroeconomics (T2M) meeting in Paris, France, 2002. The contributions in this volume focus on a central theme: the aggregate dynamic consequences of market imperfections. Such effects are of great interest to researchers in macroeconomics as these imperfections play a primary role in the persistence of aggregate output, the characteristics of the business cycles and the interactions of agents over time. Incorporating up-to-date techniques and methods, these contributions exemplify the remarkable progress made by macroeconomists in tackling these issues.
The primary market for
Market Imperfections and Macroeconomic Dynamics is academic researchers in economics and graduate students specializing in macroeconomics. Divisions of economic studies in public administration and in financial organizations will also find this book beneficial.

Great Resource.......2006-08-14
This text is a great resource for any teacher who wants or needs to use music in their classroom. Many times as music educators we are expected to teach in areas we do not feel the best at. As a music teacher this will add to your confidence and give you creative ideas for class. As a classroom teacher, it will help you understand music and music notation beyond what your students need so that you feel confident to teach the basics to your students and use music as a supplemental tool in your teaching. I highly recommend this text.

Customer Reviews:
You wont believe this?.......2002-04-16
The title of this book really makes you think you could become a master of chords. The strangest thing about this book is that it does not have left hand chords and chord are played by the left hand more than anything else. If you dont have a left hand or it was amputated in an accident then this book is great for you. If you play the keyboard dont even thing of investing in this book. All keyboardist use a split keyboard leaving the low two octaves to play the chords with the left hand. In this book all that is shown is the right hand and two hand chords but no left hand. A better buy is the lightweight "Scale and Chord guide for Keyboards"
Simply... the best.......1999-07-01
This book is an amazing. I think that all books of Len Vogler are incredibles. I have anothers titles and I'll to buy many others. Congratulations Len.
silly.......1999-06-20
This is silly. If you're going to use chords, you need to understand them at least a little. When you understand them a little, you won't need someone to mechanically transpose them for you; you won't need someone to mechanically list all their possible forms. What you need now (if you're considering buying this book) is to learn the principles of chord construction, voice-leading, and chord notation. You'll find these principles elsewhere. By the bye, a very good source of information about keyboard SCALES is PENTATONIC SCALES FOR THE JAZZ-ROCK KEYBOARDIST by Jeff Burns. (I recommend PENTATONIC SCALES FOR THE JAZZ-ROCK KEYBOARDIST by Jeff Burns.)

Book Description
If you're a Trekker, you've logged some serious time on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. But have you caught every episode? Can you recount every major story arc? Do you know the characters' backgrounds—and those of the actors? Can you recite Ferengi Rule of Acquisition 76? If not, then you need this book!
Put your Trekker expertise to the test with this pop quiz.
• Most episodes of DS9 cost around $1.5 million. For what landmark episode did the producers double the usual budget to $3 million?
• According to the star date system of time, when did the Big Bang occur?
• Without the wormhole, how long would a journey from the Alpha Quandrant to the Gamma Quadrant take?
• Which actor can count among his uncles a former prime minister and famous actor Malcom McDowell (whose credits include the move Star Trek: Generations)?
• Which actor was formerly a professor teaching theater at Rutgers University?
• How often has
Q, the meddlesome, mischievous, omnipotent being, darkened the portals of DS9?
• How did the episode "Way of the Warrior" change the series— and who joined the crew of Deep Space Nine?
Veteran Trekker Hal Schuster tells all here. Episode by episode, he recounts the stars, writers, directors, plots, and SNAFUs. He explains how the series was created, how it has changed, and where it's headed. With biographies of the actors and their characters, a Star Trek timeline, a Trekker's guide to the Internet, and much more, this is the ultimate guide to Deep Space Nine—totally uncensored, intricately detailed, and utterly fascinating.
About the Author
Hal Schuster is an expert on science fiction and television and the author of The Trekker's Guide to Voyager, The Trekker's Guide to The Next Generation, and The Unauthorized Guide to The X-Files. He is the former editor and publisher of Enterprise Incidents and Comics Features magazines.

Customer Reviews:
How many stars??.......2001-04-13
Pain has a new name.
After looking at the rating for this book I had to look not twice but three times to make sure I was seeing the correct one; I did my best to get through this book but gave up after the author promised to go step by step and then dived into code and terminology without explanation; she would introduce an example, then surround it with code she did not explain or even refer to for the rest of the book! She tries to insert a bizarre sort of humor at strange times that makes you wince, again without explanation. Her explanations are hackneyed and incomplete; after giving up and reading Javascript Goodies, then several chapters of The Javascript Bible, I went back just to see if I could understand some of the code she laid out; I did, but with no thanks to the author; it only made it more clear that she did not adequately explain how the code worked and how it is used. Worse, the chapters do not build in any sense at all on previous chapters. Interesting that the worst reviews for this book seem to have disappeared in the last several months, raising the rating considerably. It was one of the lowest rated. (I thought all reviews were supposed to remain on this website...?) Avoid, or you too may give up learning JS for a year like I did.
Quick Reference Version.......2001-02-25
Note that this book is not THE JavaScript for Dummies book, but is instead the Quick Reference version of the book. Like a dummy, I accidently ordered this one for a novice friend when I meant to be ordering the original! After browsing the Quick Reference, I decided to keep it for myself, as it appears to be a qood reference work for a more experienced JavaScript programmer.
Excellent reference.......2000-10-20
I have found this to be my favorite Javascript reference book. It is organized and indexed far better than my larger and heavier tomes and seems to have more USEFUL information in it as well! An excellent book.
By my side at all times........2000-06-23
This book is practically indispensible. It is a fairly complete reference on core JavaScript. There is no banter, no unrelated quips or anecdotes... just the answers to my questions.
The sections are organized well: Overview, Objects, Functions, Methods, and Properties. In each section, all related functions, objects, etc. are listed alphabetically, with a concise explanation of its use and syntax, and an example.
I always keep this book within my reach when I need to verify syntax or usage of JavaScript.
The only drawback to the book is that the material is somewhat dated. It doesn't include any information on layers, mouse or keyboard events, or other DHTML features. However, everything in this book is fully cross-browser compliant, and well organized.
It just tells you what you want to know.......1999-12-23
This book is great to the new JavaScript user who is muddling through confusing codes. Usually the index points you to exactly what you are looking for. While this book is not to be used as a sole reference, it does a great job of cutting through the jargon and getting right to the point.
