After years of spiritual study and reflection, inspirational speaker and bestselling author Wayne Dyer has emerged a highly esteemed teacher. His current message about tapping into the power of intention may sound like good old positive thinking: just stay focused on what you want, rather than focusing on the lack of having what you want. But the teaching here goes deeper than just controlling thoughts (although he does acknowledge that thought control is a surprisingly challenging and significant endeavor). This book might help readers land a better job, but it's more relevant for those who are ready to detach from an ego-driven life filled with quick fixes of happiness and step into a more authentic, joyful, and spiritually fulfilling life. His core teachings speak to tapping into a universal source of energy that can also be called the "power of intention." He calls people who are consciously co-creating with this energy source "connectors" and describes them as "individuals who have made themselves available for success...They don't say With my luck things won't work out. Instead, you're more likely to hear something like, I intend to create this and I know it will work out." Connectors are also committed to Dyer's "seven faces of intention"--creativity, kindness, love, beauty, expansion, abundance and receptivity, which he speaks to throughout the book. Each chapter concludes with five suggestions for becoming stronger connectors, such as how to monitor one's inner speech or shift out of low-energy beliefs. Some criticize Dyer for not giving credit to other teachers who offer this same message, especially Jerry and Esther Hicks (A New Beginning I) and even Ralph Waldo Emerson. It's impossible to know whether this was a deliberate omission, but it is obvious that Dyer has tapped into a growing conversation about co-creating with "source." Other leading-edge voices in this conversation include Eckhart Tolle (The Power of Now), Shakti Gawain (Creative Visualization ) and Lynn Grabhorn (Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting). --Gail Hudson
Book Description
In
Dr. Wayne Dyer’s public television special, taped live in front of a thousand fans in Boston’s historic theater district, he transforms conventional thinking about making things happen in our lives into a profound understanding of how each person possesses the infinite potential and power to co-create the life he or she desires.
To accomplish this, Dr. Dyer takes the audience through a journey into the seven faces of intention: (1) creativity, (2) kindness; (3) love, (4) beauty, (5) expansiveness, (6) abundance, and (7) receptivity.
Throughout the program, Dr. Dyer illustrates his points with signature stories that move the audience to tears—as well as abundant laughter.

Wayne Dyer is my favorite "self help/inspirational" teacher. He lays everything out in great detail, with wonderful examples and stories intertwined. This book personally changed my life. I cannot recommend Dr. Dyer's material enough. I also enjoy his companion cds.
Great Read!.......2007-09-05
Absolutely great author. I can't say enough about him. I gleaned something new from each chapter of this book and it's even helped me better articulate my feelings of the afterlife.

Book Description
This book develops a dynamic programming framework for the analysis of firms' joint investment and market exit decisions and reviews methods for econometric estimation of such models. In an empirical application of this framework, a version of this model that allows for financial constraints is estimated by structural methods, using a plant-level dataset for a sample of U.S. firms. The empirical analysis shows that both the plant's productivity and firm-level financial constraints have important effects on plant-level investment and exit decisions. The main contribution of the book to the empirical investment literature is the application of a mixed discrete-continuous Markov process framework to investment and exit decisions, and the structural estimation using a full-information maximum-likelihood method, the nested fixed-point algorithm.

Book Description
The book examines the development and the dynamics of the personal distribution of income in Germany, Great Britain, Sweden and the United States and some other OECD countries. Starting with the distribution of labour income, the issue is then expanded to include all monetary incomes of private households and to adjust for household size by an equivalence scale. Some authors analyse one country in detail by decomposing aggregate inequality measures, other authors focus on direct comparisons of some features of the income distribution in Germany with those in Great Britain or in the United States. The results suggest dominant influences of unemployment as well as of tax and transfer policies and different welfare regimes, respectively, but also show that our knowledge about distributional processes is still limited.

Not bad.......2007-08-14
This book was very good. It has a good variety of photographic stylies. I would disagree with the other review calling some of the pictures out right "porno"; I would call them more fetish and others are trying to make an artistic point. But I guess you can take the pictures the way you want to. At any rate this book is no dissapointment.
LIVES UP TO ITS NAME.......2006-08-18
Probably the largest variety of photographs, showing the largest variety of breasts of any book I've ever seen. Big ones, small ones, direct porno like photographs, artistic renderings, full-color, black and white, silhouettes, I could go on and on about all the variety of different breast shots that appear in this book.
The book originated in Germany. Half the writing is in German and half is in English. The photography, printing, and presentation are all top notch. This is one of the few female form books that lives up to its title and description.

The man who wrote the words to The Fantasticks and several other musicals shares his hard-earned wisdom in a book that's part history, part how-to, with just enough memoir thrown in to give it a unique personality and flavor. Jones (not the pop singer) lays out the rules of writing Broadway-style musicals, illustrated with examples from the great shows, from Oklahoma! on. He then explains how he endeavored to break those rules and advises writers of the new millennium on how they might do the same. Those writers will likely find their shows competing with Jones's Fantasticks, which opened in 1960 and is still going strong.
Book Description
The lyricist/librettist of The Fantasticks, the longest running show in the history of the American theater, takes on a new role as your guide through the magical world of the stage musical.
Customer Reviews:
Do not collaborate before reading this book.......2005-01-11
Tom Jones' MAKING MUSICALS is taken from a series of lectures Jones gave for a class in writing musicals. I found this little book very interesting and full of good advice. Jones doesn't pretend to tell you everything you need to know to write a musical or give specific techniques to write a hit. He's merely passing on what he has learned in his very long career as a writer of musicals. (He started in the 50s writing nightclub revues before hitting paydirt with the American theatre's longevity champ, THE FANTASTICKS, which ran an astounding 42 years.) He gives a brief overview of the history of musical comedy and some basics about getting started on writing your own musical. A lot of this information is available in other books, but what really sets Jones' book apart is the chapter on collaboration. Mr. Jones ought to know a thing or two about collaboration since he and composer Harvey Schmidt had a collaboration that lasted from the 1950s into the 21st Century, when Schmidt chose to retire. Jones tells how to choose a collaborator as well as how to make a good collaboration last. This chapter ought to be mandatory for all aspiring collaborators. (I wish I had read it before my own ill fated attempt at collaboration!) While hardly comprehensive, this is an excellent little book. Four stars.
"Fantastick" book! A must for musical theater fans!.......1999-08-22
Finally, an insider has published a book giving a first hand account of the process of writing a musical. While the first half of the book covers the history of the American Musical very nicely, the second half does a superb job of guiding us through the difficulties in writing a musical.
Tom Jones leads us through what makes a musical, what the difference between lyrics and poetry is in song writing, and makes suggestions regarding how to find a collaborative partner and how to get your work produced.
I consider this to be a required text for anyone considering a collaboration on a musical.

Book Description
Many have written about the way in which a "family romance" connects embodied daily life with the imagined community of the nation, and naturalizes the nation so that it appears not as a novel, fragile contingent creation, but as something ancient, robust and real. This book goes beyond such metaphoric associations of families and nations by looking at the central significance of planning families to promoting state development. It also considers the way that state power is accommodated and resisted, complicit with and contested by other powers grounded in relations of kinship, ethnicity, religion, and class.
Through an exploration of richly varied national histories, the authors highlight the common recurring intimacies between marking the borders of states and remolding the bodies of women as reproductive citizens. The tensions between past and present, between local, national and international concerns, and between men and women's interests in reproduction are all graphically revealed.
Surveying the relationship between the emerging models of citizenship and state population projects in several Asian states--India, China, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, and the Pacific states of Papua New Guinea, Fiji, the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu--Borders of Being will attract readers in the several disciplines of anthropology, demography, and history as well as the cross disciplinary fields of gender and development studies.

Customer Reviews:
Much better stuff on line.......2005-03-22
This book has amateur written all over it. Plot summaries often miss the point or don't know when something is tongue-in-cheek. Detsails are frequently overlooked and references to other sci-fi shows are either beside the point or were diliberately done by the producers. Critiques show immaturity of the author and his concern for the sexuality of the show affecting a 10-year-old viewer will become absurd as the adult themes of the show develop. No photos, no humour, no brains.
Great Introduction to one of the Very Best SF Shows.......2005-02-01
This a great way to get introduced to the show. Pelucir provides really great plot synopisis as well as some very interesting critiques of the episodes.
I've bought a bunch of official and unofficial guides to both this series and others, and in this case, the unofficial ones are better.
Why? MOstly because the official guides to this show are just a bunch of recycled interviews and photographs. I can get those elsewhere--in fact I already had everything I found in the official books.
This is a really cool book and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves Farscape.
Poor Book.......2002-12-06
The book has decent summaries of the episodes, but the episode critiques often are very weak. While they offer occasional insight, they frequently nitpick or resort to vulgar feminist rants. In several cases it is clear the author completely misses the point of an episode, or even the show itself. If you are a thoughtful, educated fan of the show, the book will likely really annoy you.
A waste of time and money.......2002-08-29
This author doesn't even seem to like the show. He loves Zahn but that is about it. Factual errors, thin skinned about jokes, and way over sensitive to imagined woman hating. He made a few good points but not worth the time or the money.
Disappointing Book on a Fantastic series.......2002-07-06
I ordered all three books without thinking. I should have ordered only one at a time, then I would not have bought the other two. Not at this price. For as small as the first book is, and no photos or anything else in the book, it isn't worth the price. And, as another reviewer mentioned, there are a lot of typos! That was irritating. As a reviewer, Talis does ok. As he mentions, I don't have to agree with everything he says. I think he missed the point on some episodes, though, and I think he could have been more in depth on some. I hope the second book is better. I noticed it is larger, so I have some hope that my money was not so misplaced. I would have been happy with the book had it been more the price of a small paperback novel.
Book Description
The 40-year story of the rise and fall of one of the pioneering companies of the computer age
Customer Reviews:
A name dies, but the spirit thrives.......2007-08-09
When I started reading this book (the first two chapters) I was a little hesitant at reading further as it was a very ambiguous prep for the story. However, after I started chapter 3 I was excited to discover how inline Ken Olsen's views are with my own and my own experiences.
I initially got this book in order to learn why a company fails and try and avoid the pitfalls that DEC encountered. As I read further into the book I found that the strengths of the culture were symbollic of humanity in general, and to discount the culture was to discount some of humanities most fundametal and essential attributes.
Corporations as entities are setup to run in perpetuity; however, the most difficult obstacle to longevity is vitality. Many companies today that have been around for more than 40 years really don't offer much in the way humanitarian benefits. In other words, you're not going to work at a GE and expect to revolutionize anything. The immediate problem is that as corporations get more and more hardened their vitality is lost and the very culture that inspired them to be innovative disappears in favor of purely existing. How do you combat this?
DEC's legacy is not the products that it produced, but the vitality that sprang-forth from people who sought something more and were empowered to reach their dreams. A company's true worth cannot be known until you see how many companies/ideas came out of it, not as spin-off's, but as inspired, elegant, and useful innovations/products that in-turn inspire others to reach their dreams.
Overall the book does a good job of relating the facts of the ultimate rise and fall of DEC from a monetary perspective, but it does an even better job or relating how inspiration, motivation, and empowerment can truly create "magic" in both the past and in the present. The spirit of DEC lives on, indeed the spirit of America lives on...
a sad tale of what might have beens.......2006-07-11
One of the first computers I worked on was a Dec-10. I also used one of the PDPs. Then I later was sysadmin and wrote Fortran code for a Vax 785. So I was rather nostalgaic over DEC's demise. This would have seemed inconceivable in the mid 80s, when DEC was at its height, and second only to IBM. But Schein's analysis points out that the seeds of DEC's fall were already flourishing at its apex.
One merit of the book is how it points out that it was not just Ken Olsen who made all the bad decisions. Notably that the "PC was just a toy". It was also the rest of the top management. Worsened by a complex matrix management structure. This had the effect of drastically slowing decision making.
The book is a sad tale of what might have beens. For instance, it is well known how DEC missed the PC revolution. But it also dropped the ball on networking. DEC came up with DECNET by 1984. It had many very capable network engineers. But DEC's routers and switches were only for DECNET. DEC could have been DEC+Cisco, if it had migrated aggressively to the Arpanet/Internet. Sure, it had some presence in the latter. But not enough. It kept pushing its DECNET and in the end the Internet just drove DECNET into irrelevance.
iconic business story -- useful to all.......2006-06-29
this is one of the best business books i have read. it is super-relevant for anyone in high tech but is also recommended for any business person.
schein combines narration with theory & analysis in telling the story of DEC's meteoric rise and eventual sale to Compaq. the book is a rare mix of story-telling and more "academic" theory about management, strategy and culture. what makes the book so exceptional, beyond schein's insights and storytelling, is the unprecedented access he had to DEC executives.
Needed to be written, needs to be read.......2005-01-31
I recommend this book to anyone who is familiar with DEC or wishes to understand its enduring legacies. It is also a useful case study on who a company that was doing so well could ultimately fail; are Microsoft and IBM really immune from this fate?
I used DEC equipment during its heyday from the late 1970's throughout the 1980s. What I value most is how the technical experiences I recall from that time were given depth. The author's narrative binds together a collection of internal memos and personal recollections of many of those who were working at DEC when many of its fateful decisions were made. In general, responsibility for the ultimate failure of DEC to survive as a company is laid with the senior management, in particular with CEO Ken Olsen. The same attributes that made DEC great and innovative were the ones that lead to its downfall. Alas, DEC is not dead but lives on in all the innovations it introduced.
I would like liked to have seen some more details on the technical innovations and more exposure to the myths and legends that many of us were weaned on. But that was not the main thesis of the book so it's not a deficiency per se.
Though written in a straightforward and matter of fact way with little flourish, I was engrossed and quickly polished it off. This book needed to be written.
A provacative read.......2004-03-29
Many discussions and articles that chronicle the rise and fall of Digital simplify the failure to either "The president [Ken Olsen] blew it," or "They missed the PC revolution," or some combination of both. This book shows how the culture that so successfully nourished creativity and genius in the company's nascent days brought chaos, confusion, and internecine warfare in later days when the larger company faced a host of competitors and needed to efficiently produce commodity items. I think that the authors go a little too lightly on the role of (mis)management in Digital's failure, but they do a good job of bringing to light many other aspects of Digital's problematic history. The authors seem a bit full of themselves at times, but they have a compelling and sobering story to tell.
