A cup, a compass, a key: the magic tree house has brought siblings Annie and Jack to Camelot, where they embark on a mysterious mission to find these enigmatic gifts. In this special hardcover addition to the bestselling Magic Tree House series, the young adventurers must travel to the Otherworld, an "ancient, enchanted land beyond the edge of the Earth, the place where all magic began" to save Camelot from dark wizard Mordred's evil spell. If they fail, Camelot will be forgotten forever. Fans of the beloved, highly readable series by Mary Pope Osborne will rise to the challenge of this longer, more complex companion to her other titles, which include Earthquake in the Early Morning and Twister on Tuesday. As in every story in the sequence, Jack and Annie bravely plunge into their quest, learning about a culture and time very far removed from their own, and prove once again that children can make a difference. (Ages 6 to 9) --Emilie Coulter

Book Description

The Magic Tree House series has become a staple for inspiring kids to read. Christmas in Camelot is a very special Magic Tree House book. Here, author Mary Pope Osborne uses the literary skills for which she’s known to create a longer, more in-depth story featuring the characters kids have come to love. The result is magical: a fast-paced but detailed, easy-to-read story. Jack and Annie go on a quest to save Camelot, a quest that will prove to a beleaguered King Arthur that children and imagination really can make a difference.

Book arrived in a timely manner. Was suprised it didn't have a dust cover as that was not stated in advertisement. However, book was in good shape.

5 out of 5 stars Magic Treehouse Series.......2007-09-26

The magic treehouse series has been and continues to be a wonderful series for my son. Educational and interesting, these books capture his attention and inspire his imagination. It is so rewarding to see your child be enthusiastic about reading stories and reading in general. I have and will continue to suggest these books to other parents.

1 out of 5 stars What happened?.......2006-11-07

What happened? Magic Tree House series books 1-28 were great, with educational tales filled with historical relevance that used just enough magic to make the story work. Buy the complete set of 1-28! However, the Christmas book (#29) and apparently all the following books are pure magic, fantasy drivel with no redeeming qualities. Did Mary Pope Osborne hope to capitalize on the Harry Potter craze? (I'm basing this on heresay, since I haven't read Harry Potter.) I slogged thru this book, cringed and gagged thru #30, and made my wife read the next ones to my 5 year old. I'm going to tell him there aren't anymore, because they are too awful to buy and read.

I very, very disappointed in what happened to this series. Please, please Mary Pope - get back to writing good stories and not this nonsense.

5 out of 5 stars Christmas in Camelot (Magic Treehouse #29).......2006-11-04

My [...] year old son absolutely loved this series. I had to read it to him, though. When I would stop reading for bedtime he would be so excited to know what came next he would always beg for just one more chapter. We are now rereading the books (he just turned 7). As his reading skills improve, he is beginning to pick out words and phrases as I read to him

This book was on of the Merlin series and had a more magical component to it. There are Christmas references but it is definitely not a real "Christmas" story. It can be read any time of the year. The story is about a brother and sister Jack and Annie. They have a series of clues to get to quest which is given to them by the magician Merlin. You can read this book alone, but I would recommend reading some of the earlier ones in the series to get to know the characters.

5 out of 5 stars Winter of the Ice Wizard by Mary Pope Osborne kids review .......2006-04-21

I liked this book because it had a lot of action. They had wolves that chased them and they also had winter storms. In this book they find two friends that help them. I would recommend this book for all boys and girls.

    Book Description

    Christmas in Camelot
It begins with a simple invitation to spend Christmas Eve in Camelot, a magical place that exists only in myth and fantasy. What Jack and Annie don’t know is that the invitation will send them on a quest to save Camelot itself — not from destruction, but from being forgotten forever.

    Haunted Castle on Hallow’s Eve
The castle looms dark against the light of the moon. Giant ravens circle in the sky. Merlin the magician needs someone to find out what has happened. But who is brave enough to brush the cobwebs aside and go through the heavy doors? Merlin thinks he knows the answer to these questions–Jack and Annie.

    Summer of the Sea Serpent
Jack and Annie are off on another mythical mission at the request of Merlin the magician. Luckily, they have a young sorcerer, Teddy, to help them. From underwater caves to a Spider Queen, from mystical selkies to a magical sword, this is a Magic Tree House adventure kids won’t want to miss!

    Winter of the Ice Wizard
Jack and Annie, joined by Teddy and Kathleen travel in the Magic Tree House to a land of snow where the Ice Wizard has captured Morgan and Merlin. The four friends must find the Ice Wizard’s missing eye . . . or is it really his heart that is missing?

Then she spies Camelot's newest knight, the notorious Sir Nicholas the Dragon, a champion as renowned for his prowess in the beds of Camelot's maidens as for his skill in battle. 5 out of 5 stars Heads up Camelot fans!.......2004-03-06

Set in the infamous site of Camelot. At a young age Lady Noelle Mallory had been told by Merlin that she would someday meet her knight-in-armor and KNOW that he was destined to be her one true love. However, as with all great things, Noelle would have to fight and win him. Therefore, she refused all offers of marriage. When she was years past the normal age of being wedded, her father and brother betrothed her to Sir Gavin. Noelle was sent to Camelot to meet the well-known and brave knight before a Christmastide wedding. Yet, it was another knight that drew Noelle's attention.

Sir Nicholas the Dragon was known for his bravery and loyalty to King Arthur. He was a knave who had left many broken hearts in his wake. His childhood had been cruel. He had been forced to become a man at the tender age of ten just to survive. None before Noelle seemed to call to his heart. Never the less, she was promised to another and he must forget her.

***** W-O-W! I have always loved the tales of magical Camelot! King Arthur, Queen Guinevere, Sir Lancelot, Merlin, the Lady of the Lake * all are here!

The author, Brenda K. Jernigan, threw in an evil man (Prince Meleagant), some awesome secondary characters (to keep things lively), and the wondrous season of Christmas into the pot. The result was a spicy stew that will keep readers fascinated until the last page has been savored! Highly recommended! *****

If you loved the movie Camelot, you'll love this romantic tale of the court of King Arthur. Heart-warming characters and knightly swashbuckling make this a fun read!

5 out of 5 stars Christmas in Camelot.......2003-11-19

This book was wonderful! I loved the way the author alter view every couple of paragrahs! While it may have been a tad confusing at first, in the end it helped me to gain a better understanding for the characters.

5 out of 5 stars Escape into another world.......2003-02-08

I don't know where to begin. I was so swept away with CHRISTMAS IN CAMELOT that I couldn't put the book down. I actually walked around with the book in my hand. Yet at the same time I didn't want it to end. This book will make you feel like you are in Camelot. The research was wonderful for this book and I really enjoyed every minute. And the best part was when I finished I felt satisfied -- it was a true fairytale. I hope there will be many more books from his wonderful author. Now I'm going out to buy her backlist. This is a GREAT book. Don't miss it.

2 out of 5 stars A Snooze for the Season.......2003-01-06

The only feeling of Christmas you get from this book is that they are decorating the house for the season. That's it - not really mood-setting for the season.
Besides that, the story was slow and the writing stilted and the characters boring. The author tried to make it magical by adding characters like Merlin and King Arthur, but it just doesn't seem to work, there was very little authenticity. I wouldn't reccommend this one at all, there have to be better stories out there to celebrate the season!

      Book Description

Eleven year old Maria Gonzaga didn't know what compelled her to do such a foolish thing. She knew her father would be furious. Yet at that moment, the only thing that mattered was that she was entering her family in a big float competition and making them a part of the annual village Christmas celebration. Never before had any of the poor Mexican-American farm families taken part in the parade of giant floats. Only the wealthy ranchers could afford the thousands of dollars it cost to create them. This year would be different. The Gonzaga float would be a source of pride for all Mexican-Americans.

Maria had no idea how her poor family could possibly make a float as beatiful as the others, but she knew they had to. Little did she imagine that it would be her own last minute inspiration that would steal the show...and become a tradition celebrated each year at Christmas in the little village of San Lazaro, California.

I found this book at a second hand store. The daily chapters discuss Advent, St. Nicholas, St. Lucia, the Yule log, Las Posadas, hanging stockings, Christmas plants, and evergreens. This is a wonderful book for younger children who ask "Why" about so many things, and for the rest of us who may never have learned some of the origins of the holiday traditions associated with Christmas.

                    Book Description

The history of capitalism has long been thought to be a sequence of recurring crises that appear in various forms: crises in employing people, crises in obtaining resources, and financial crises. Marx's Crises Theory: Scarcity, Labor, and Finance provides a framework for interpreting Marx's theory of crises. In conclusion, the author asserts that as long as the financial structure leads to periodic breakdowns, Marx's writings on the subject will retain their importance as a source of theory and analysis of the dynamics of political economy.

&quotSpoof is stronger than fiction" says For Better of For Worse humorist Lynn Johnston, and in Never Stand Behind A Loaded Horse, Leacock merit medallist Gordon Kirkland drives the point home with funny-bone accuracy. 5 out of 5 stars An extra large blessing.......2005-07-05

I've owned this book for many months, but had to wait my turn as various males in my house read it. It was worth the wait. I read a chapter or two--really a column or two--at a time. Sometimes one can see what is coming in Kirkland's writing, but then again sometimes one is surprised. Regardless, he is clearly an admirable man; someone to be desired as a neighbor if not, as Lynn Johnston jibes, a spouse. I recommend this book whole-heartedly to anyone who finds life challenging. We are not alone.

5 out of 5 stars Kept the laughs rolling on a long trip!!.......2004-07-29

Gordon Kirkland saved my life with his latest book. I threw it in the car and on our long trip read the chapters out loud to my husband and two kids. The traffic jams melted away as we literally laughed until we cried. I had to stop several times mid-sentence to catch my breath and read the rest with tears in my eyes. No kidding! It is a hilarious look at everyday life that anyone can relate to. I intend to leave it on the coffee table. The cover is attention grabbing and anyone can pick it up and read a chapter and get a smile. I liked the first chapter the best! A great read and one worth owning!!!!!

"Iggy Pop is, you might say, extreme. He makes the Mick Jaggers and Alice Coopers of this world look kind of timid. Words such as 'spontaneous' and 'unpredictable', frequently applied to him, are a little short on power. Iggy is a monster."-Mick Rock

In March 1972, Iggy and James, both completely off heroin, went on England to recruit a new band and start recording the album for CBS. In June joined Ron and Scott Asheton, and together worked on the new recordings until September same year. During their stay in London, The Stooges played only one concert in the King's Cross Cinema. Iggy was dressed only in silver lame trousers and had silver hair, black boots and black lipstick, his show and his mistreatment of audience had schocked all present. It was to be their only show outside America. This book is photographic report from this show, a few photo sessions of the whole band, and also contains common photos with David Bowie and Lou Reed, captured on camera by legendary rock photgrapher, Mick Rock. The book also contains his introduction and interview between virtuoso with camera Mick Rock and rock monster Iggy Pop, conducted in 1972. If you like album cover of "Raw Power", this book is made for you. Since there is no audio or video recording from any of The Stooges concert in 1972, this book offers unique experience for the band admirers. Raw Power! Look for the answer from the title in the book.

IGGY POP & THE STOOGES, OUTTA DETROIT, WERE PRETTY MUCH THE UNIVERSALLY UNDISPUTED GREATEST INFLUENCE ON THE PUNK ROCK SCENE OF 1976-1977, WHICH PRODUCED CLASSIC BANDS LIKE THE CLASH AND THE SEX PISTOLS. IGGY & THE STOOGES' RECORDING CAREER LASTED FROM 1969-1973, RECORDING 3 STUDIO ALBUMS AND ONE NOTORIOUS LIVE ALBUM. 1972 WAS THE PEAK OF IGGY AND THE STOOGES BRILLIANCE AND OUTRAGEOUSNESS - IGGY'S ANTICS AND APPEARANCE MAKE THE SEX PISTOLS LOOK TAME IN COMPARISON. IF YOU WANT TO ACTUALLY SEE ROCK N ROLL, BESIDES HEARING IT - THIS IS THE BOOK THAT SHOWS WHAT ROCK N ROLL, AT IT'S MOST EXCITING, LOOKS LIKE. BLOOD AND MAKEUP AND BIZARRE/COMICAL/SICK POSES AND VISUAL RAW POWER! A MUST FOR EVERY IGGY/STOOGES/PUNK ROCK FAN, AND VERY LIKELY A FEAST FOR THE EYES FOR FANS OF ALL TYPES OF MUSIC!

This book holds my interest. I cannot put it down because I loved the TONIGHT SHOW.
Don Sweeney comes across as one of us. He is a fan, just as I was. So I put myself in his shoes and love reading about what I would have seen as a Tonight Show member. If you loved Johnny, Ed or Doc or the band, you will enjoy this book!!!! My 83 year old aunt refuses to give the book back to me. She also cannot put it down. What a great tribute to a great TV show. Thank you Don Sweeney for sharing your story. You gave your readers a special gift.

5 out of 5 stars Amazingly Real account of backstage goings on there.......2006-08-14

Great Great backstage quips, quotes and extended anecdotes about Mr. Sweeney and his 20 years of bumping into all the major show business people that graced the tonight show to visit with Johnny and Ed. Tremendous insight for those curious about what some of the stars are "really" like and how ordinary yet extraordinary they actually were. From Ray Charles, to Tony Bennett, to Don Rickles, to Joey Bishop and many many more. Not a "tell-all" book at all it's just a real working mans account of what it takes to put on such a high profile show with the pressure of keeping the level of excellence Johnny expected. Don builds a wonderful story of how his early childhood dream of being involved in show business and network TV from his start on the Howdy Doody show at 5 to drumming with Ray Charles and Ed Shaughnessy as an adult. His daily chronology of rubbing elbows day after day with stars you all know and love as he went about his tasks gives us all hope of meeting the idols in our lives who gave us inspiration and touched our lives with their talents!!! Can't wait for more great stories in the sequel!!!!

This book is the biography of Don Sweeney. who is Don Sweeney? Exactly. Not that exciting. Tonight show tidbits surprisingly boring from an insider's viewpoint. Obviously, the author holds back the "good stuff", so why bother?

I bought these two book for one reason: to get help implementing algorithms. Since there is lot of code in these books, I thought this would be a good pick. I was wrong. The author is consistently leaving out details vital to understanding the code. He also makes a big deal about abstract data types. This is gloriously of the case. If the readers are supposed to understand the code, transperency would be a more intelligent goal for the author. There are no comments in the code what so ever (yes, this is actually true, not even in the on-line code). The on-line code to this book is a total mess. You would be able to implement all the algorithms from scratch in less time than it would take you to try an piece together the code the author has left for you.
The pity is that there are very few other algorithm books that have real code. Demand a new edition from the author and don't by this one unless you can avoid it.

4 out of 5 stars Best of the bunch.......2004-08-19

I had to teach this subject and this book seemed the best of the bunch though still not ideal. Why does the author have to use meaningless variable names (i,j,k), do comments make the code run more slowly. My main criticism is the examples and I would recommend the author use professional coding practices, comment the code, use meaningful variable names and structure it for readability. Else recommended for this subject

5 out of 5 stars The best book for beginners.......2002-07-26

Sedgewick's 'Algorithms in C' is undeniably the best book for beginners studying about algorithms and data structures. The text is clear, lucid, and the programming examples are very well documented. The exercises and problems stimulate thoughts and help in developing a better understanding of the subject. All the key aspects of the subject are sufficiently addressed, and discussed in the best possible way. It's the code in the book that I love the most, it can be compiled on almost any compiler without almost any change being made to it. I would strongly recommend this book as a textbook to all beginners embarking on a study of data structures and algorithms.

5 out of 5 stars Lucid thought process - excellent coverage & examples.......2002-07-25

I have quite a few books on algorithms and C programming, and this probably takes the cake. Sedgewick writes clearer than perhaps anyone on the subject. The book is filled to the gills with tiny 20 line (complete) programs that do amazing things - such as the program to compute all the prime numbers less than N (provided as input). These examples are typically given to illustrate some point (such as using dynamic array allocation for storing which numbers are prime) - but the short, concise algorithms given in the examples are learning aids as well (i.e. - I didn't know you could calculate a list of primes so easily, and I can probably take this knowledge and use it somewhere else). The reader is challenged to alter the examples (instead of using an array to store which numbers are prime, use a bitmap). Because the examples are small, compact, and easy to read, this provokes one to actually sit down and try and play with them. In contrast, I also have the Algorithms In C O'Reilley book by Kyle Loudon and after reading the Sedgewick title, I'm throwing that away. That book spends 1/3 of the chapter describing the algorithms, and then spends the rest of it in user-interface code examples. Of course, all the user interfaces for all the examples in the book are pretty much the same, so the whole book is filled with redundant useless code. More analysis, less filler, please. As Sedgewick was a student of Knuth, I consider his books as the practical guide to Knuth's tomes (which seem out of date - do we really need algorithm analysis on external storage these days??), which are filled with rigorous mathematical analysis. I highly recommend this book(s) -- actually there are two, with the second volume covering graphs. I wish my University had used these texts in programming / algorithm analysis courses. I really don't have any negative commentary -- other than the nitpick that his coding style is very compact and skeletal --> main(){ for(...) do_something;} However, since the examples are so small, it hardly matters.

What happened to the sections on string processing, geometric algorithms, and advanced topics? The Introduction says parts 5-8 are contained in a separate volume, but the second volume contains only the part on Graphs (which the intro says is supposed to be Part 7) What gives?

If you need a book to introduce yourself in data structures, thats not your book. This books are for consult, not to learn, cos there are leaks : insuficient code, insuficient large explanations and drawings about TDAs. Furthermore, its expensive.
Even trough that, Id recommended part 5 because its a good collection of the most used algorithms based in graphs.

5 out of 5 stars If you want to _really_ understand red-black trees............2005-06-08

Any professional programmer would benefit from having these books at hand. Excellent discussions of the basic algorithms which every programmer needs to know.

But I would like to particularly highlight the discussions on binary and n-ary search trees. The most enlightening discussion in print, giving the reader a real synoptic view of search tree algorithms, how they evolved, and their culmination in red-black trees.

Other reviewers have mentioned that the algorithms as presented here seem to be just warmed=over versions of their C counterparts presented in the C edition of this work. There is a germ of truth to this, but I really don't consider it to be a valid criticism of the books. The point here is not to present C++ coding techniques, but to understand algorithms. If you want to know what a state-of-the art C++ implementation of Red-Black trees looks like, just read the source code which comes with the GNU compiler toolchain. But you're not going to have a prayer of understanding it until you first understand how Red-black trees work--that's where this book comes in. If you are trying to explain the Red-black tree algorithm, you don't want all of the C++ do-dads and optimizations, templates, etc, all cluttering up the presentation of the skeletal algorithm.
