This is such a sweet book. My Grandaughter loves it and even my 15 month old Grandson gets a kick out of lifting the flaps while you read it. Dora teaches such good lessons and this book is no exception. Buy it - your children will love it.

My 4-year old really enjoys this book. Dora and Boots are making their way home for bedtime, and along the way they hear various animals making noises. It's interactive as well as just fun to peek under the flaps and find out who's making the sounds. Not recommended for children who still rip book pages--the flaps would be too tempting.

My 2 year old loves reading this book right before bedtime. The lift-a-flap is fun too. She loves saying goodnight to all the animals as they are going to bed. Best of all, you get to say goodnight to Dora at the end of the book.

For $5.99 and Free Super Saver Shipping on Amazon this Dor Lift-the-Flap book is a very nice buy. Our little girl (1yr 10mos) loves this book. She really enjoys the lifting up the flaps. I don't really understand one of the 'Spotlight Reviers' giving this book 2 stars. Yes. It's not a board book and it's 'saddle stapled', but what do you expect for $5.99. This book will keep your little one entertained and is fairly durable. I recommend this and other Dora Lift-the-Flap books for your little explorer.

This is a fair and thorough account of history of the violin and its masters. The late Mr. Schwartz left a legacy to be praised for decades: all due gratitude for his delegent and extensive research and his stellar authourship.
Chapters on early masters are especially impressive, with more than sufficient information and fair analysis on each artist. The simplistic, yet comprehensive and highly informative writing style of Mr. Schwartz make it a more enjoyable reading; anyone, even with minimal knowledge on violin, will find it accessible and pleasant to read. Not a single line in this book is boring, or pedantic; a personal tribute/annecdote at the end of each chapter on modern violinists, is often moving with the author's candour and endearing admiration for the artist.

This is a slender collection of glib anecdotes and quotes, arranged in no particular order. I read it in one sitting (it took the better part of an hour) when I ought to have been practicing the cello instead. The author's off-hand conversational prose is very occasionally incoherent, and the author quotes Shostakovich once out of context in a deliberately misleading way in order to justify, apparently, what some might characterize as pandering, but otherwise I found it agreeable and moderately entertaining. If you check it out of the library, make sure you check out other books as well or you'll find yourself shortly with nothing to read. ("Read", by the way, is not a noun.)

Julian Lloyd Webber is definitely more than "Andrew's brother." Not only is he an accomplished classic cellist, but a natural writer. This is a marvelous book covering his chlldhood with Andrew, and his career and travels as a cellist. Also with photographs, several with brother Andrew that have never been published anywhere else. If you find a copy of this book, BUY IT!

Nearly twenty years have passed since the first The Great German Composers was written, and many changes have taken place since then. The attempt has been made, so far as is consistent with the limits of space, to bring these little books down to date, revising the articles where it was needed, and making addenda in sketches of living or very recently living composers and artists, who may be said to represent most fully the achieve ments and tendencies of contemporary music. The same necessity of limits has also compelled the writer to exclude consideration of the ca reers of noted living performers; as it was thought best that discrimination should be in favor of those great artists who'se careers have been completely rounded and finished. An exception to the above will be noted ui VI NOTE. the case of Franz Liszt ; but, aside from the fact that this greatest of piano-forte virtuosos, though living, has practically retired from the field of art, to omit him from such a volume as this would be an unpardonable omission. In con nection with the personal lives of the artists sketched in this volume, the attempt has been made, in a general, though necessarily imper fect, manner, to trace the gradual development of the art of playing from its cruder begin nings to the splendid virtuosoism of the pres ent time. Joe Barlow is more than just another film reviewer with columns in various publications. He is also the director of the cult spoof movie - The Wicked Witch Project, the author of numerous screenplays, and a musician. His reviews are refreshing, immensely readable, and believable. No-one is going to suspect that Joe is in league with the Hollywood Studios; he is impatient with triviality, mawkishness, formulaic movies and poor acting, which means he is out of sympathy with much of Hollywood's output. Equally, he is the first to welcome quality and originality wherever it originates. Frankly, if you're planning to see a movie or rent a video, avoid disappointment, by finding out what Joe thinks of it first.

A fitting end to a wonderful series of Dr. Who Handbooks........2001-06-23
Doctor Who: The Handbook - The Seventh Doctor concludes the excellent series of Dr. Who Handbooks from Virgin Publishing. This, the seventh and final volume in the Handbook series focuses on the Sylvester McCoy era of Dr. Who from 1987-1989 (seasons 24-26), the final three years of Dr. Who as a regular BBC series before cancellation.
Great behind the scenes information as well as a feature on the making of the season 24 story "Dragonfire". This volume also focuses on the seven year gap of 1989-1996, looking at the various attempts at one time or another on possible revivals of Doctor Who either as a new series or feature films before the British and American co-produced TV movie of 1996 that starred Paul McGann as the new Eighth Doctor, succeeding and finally concluding Sylvester McCoy's era as the Seventh Doctor. This handbook also includes massive coverage of the 1996 TV movie.
This volume also includes a superb index at the end of the book as well as an errata section, correcting the mistakes from the previous six Doctor Who Handbook volumes. An excellent end to a wonderful series of Handbooks that have become the most in-depth and authorized research on the history of the science fiction series Doctor Who.

I waited a long time for this book to be published and was very pleased when I finally got a chance to read it!
This volume covers the last three years of the original BBC "Doctor Who" series (1987-89) as well as the events leading up to and including the 1996 "Doctor Who" movie.
It is organized into sections for easy reference and includes an episode guide for the seventh Doctor's era, with two reviews for each. It also goes on to include the information about Paul McGann's stint as the Doctor as well.
If there's any criticism, I wish the book had contained more information about the events surrounding the end of the TV series. But, this is a small point.
Like the others in the "Doctor Who" handbook series, the Sylvester McCoy volume is another well organized and well-researched volume.

It's Missing Something.......2007-04-24
I grabbed this from the company bookshelf to learn more about SharePoint and how I might use it to for simple document collaboration. I forced my self to read on even though things are not really explained and the reading is quite dry. I got to Chapter 6 and I had to quit....I still don't see any light.
I've read enough books to know that it may take another chapter or 2 before you start to 'get it', I never got any of it. The book basically goes right into site design from architecture and site design/layout. Problem is they skipped telling you just what all these things are....Portal(s), Area(s), primary site, sub site, sub area, Topics and many other SharePoint terms.
It's like they assume you know what all of these things are, maybe it's covered later. Problem I have is that I got to know what a 'widget' does before I can think about how to use it. Up through chapter 6 I have only vague ideas of what all these SharePoint things are and how I might use them.
Maybe a simple reordering of chapters could help. SharePoint in itself is confusing as well it consists of 2 things 'SharePoint Services' and SharePointPortal Server'.
I'm a developer going on 20 years of coding experience and quite a few books under the belt. While this book is not a 'coding' book I should be able to learn from it but I didn't. I have given up on very few books in my career and none recently.

When I first started working my current job, I was given this book. I have to say that this is an extremely boring book. It didn't engage me in any shape, form, or fashion. Learning SharePoint is already difficult and this book does not make it any easier. I am glad I didn't buy it.
A Great resource for using SharePoint Services and SharePoint Portal Server.......2006-10-13
I have had this book for almost a year now and read almost the whole thing. One aspect of this book which makes it a very worthwhile read is the clear differentiation which the authors maintain between Windows Sharepoint Services (free to implement) and Sharepoint Portal Server (can be VERY expensive.) Most Sharepoint books I have read fail to make this distinction and suffer greatly for it. I very much appreciated the clear differences between the products.
This book is a great primer for someone looking to get a Sharepoint implementation up and running (which I have been.) Understanding scalability, using farms, managing the databases are all covered in sufficient detail to be able to implement it yourself and have it survive use.
I was disappointed that the scope of the book wasn't wider. I would loved to have seen some developer information, or at least a list of resources. I would also liked to have seen more guidance on creating sites, organization of sites and other setup information. Perhaps a better title would have been Sharepoint 2003 Infrastructure Unleashed.
With those comments, I can also say that I'd buy another volume of this and appreciate the authors attention to detail, especially in clearly differentiating between the free and the expensive Sharepoint products.
Unfriendly eBook edition but good book.......2006-02-02
The book (2nd edition) is good but don't get the eBook version. It's very irritating because you are allowed to print 30 pages in a month. Can you believe it? You will find more security restrictions that won't let you read the information pleasently as it should be.
Not Worthy Of...........2005-10-09
This book is not worthy of the "Unleashed" series, which typically has stellar books. Mostly just marketing level advice with very little in-depth information. You can get more information out of a Google search.
