5 out of 5 stars Hidden Mickeys.......2007-06-01

I am a long time Walt Disney World fan and love the challenge of finding the Hidden Mickeys. This book was recommended by a friend who thought I would like to see some of the more challenging Hidden Mickeys. I was not disappointed. The author has made this into fun scavenger hunt for the whole family.

5 out of 5 stars Once you start looking, there's no turning back!.......2007-05-23

Some of my most enjoyable moments at Walt Disney World took place after my husband and I purchased Steve Barrett's Hidden Mickey's 2nd Edition! We began searching based on our location or ride line queue then that search continued at our resort and so on. This book gives you hints and tips on locating these Hidden Mickeys that have become pretty famous among visitors and fans, and when you really can't find Mickey, the book will list the exact location! After reading this book, I've become a fanatic and even find Hidden Mickey's in places there really aren't any - like my lawn where three pebbles fit the bill for a HM perfectly. This is a great way to entertain yourself or you children in lines at the parks or in shops and restaurants too!

5 out of 5 stars A lot of fun & great for repeat visitors!!.......2007-04-10

We had so much fun with this! My kids were constantly searching for more. My husband & dad were a little skeptical at first, but were looking for them by the end of the trip. We found so many new things and enjoyed the search. We are Disney veterans and it made our trip much more interesting. Definitely will buy the next edition!!!

3 out of 5 stars Fun for Families on Return Visits - 3.5 Stars.......2007-04-07

This book is a lot of fun. It's a great introduction to the concept of going to the parks and having a multi-layered experience. If you've been before, and you are going back, you obviously like Disney anyway. But it is fun (particularly for kids) to have an additionaly "mystery" to solve while walking the park and standing in line. The idea is that there are all kinds of "hidden mickeys" throughout the parks. A hidden mickey is basically a simple image of mickey's head: a large circle with two smaller circles connected (his ears). So the book explains all this, and has lists for where to find them. As a bonus, it also provides suggested iteneraries to avoid long lines and find certain hidden mickies. It's a lot of fun.

The down side to the book, from my perspective, is that it is difficult to find any one thing. The authors break information up by the purpose they assume a given reader might have, but if your need doesn't match one of those, you find yourself looking in many different places in the book for info. Another problem, and maybe its a "user error," but we couldn't find many of the hidden mickey's based on the descriptions in the book. They just didn't seem specific enough. Finally, many of the hidden mickey's, to me were just circles - a real stretch.

So I don't see this book as a definitive list of hidden mickies. I found this book to be more of a popularizer of a cool idea, with some very good ideas (e.g., the itineraries) added as a bonus. It's worth your dollars, but it won't be the best book on the subject written, I suspect.

3 out of 5 stars OK, but not complete.......2006-10-02

This book is a lot of fun, but I question some of the hidden Mickeys in the book. Some aren't exactly hidden (the Mickey's in MouseGear at EPCOT, for example) but merely decorations. Other are very questionable and really aren't hidden Mickeys at all (by this I mean, just because there are three circles together doesn't mean they are a Mickey. A true Mickey has one large circle with two smaller circle ears). Other Mickeys are just over looked. For a free list of the Mickeys, you can also just checkout SpaceCoast Hidden Mickeys on the web. Overall, it's a fun book, but don't buy it if you are looking for a real list of the Mickeys.

5 out of 5 stars Hidden Mickeys Quest.......2007-09-07

This book was a lot of fun when we were at WDW in Aug 07. We visited resorts and restaurants we wouldn't have other gone to and we noticed details that would have been overlooked if we hadn't been on our Hidden Mickey's quest. We even found hidden Mickeys that weren't in the book. We also had the PassPorters Treasure Hunts at Walt Disney World, but doing both was too much so we choose the Hidden Mickeys.

5 out of 5 stars Hidden Mickey's: A Field Guide to Fun.......2007-07-17

It's fun book to bring with you if you're going to Disney World, it's a fun game to play with your family when you're at The World

          Book Description

“Spliffs,” European slang for joint, can be rolled with marijuana alone, or may include tobacco mixed with either marijuana or hashish. This little but potent item sparks this colorful, wide-ranging salute to cannabis. Laid out with splashy graphics in magazine format, Spliffs 2 mixes engaging short narrative and satirical pieces with instructional and practical information. With over 100 color illustrations, the book contains profiles of outlaw heroes and famous dope smugglers; “A Smoker’s Life for Me,” for potheads who insist on integrating the plant into every aspect of their lives; a pictorial tour of rolling papers past and present; and a guide to cannabis etiquette. There’s a section on movies and marijuana for altered-state film buffs, a map of cannabis use around the world for geographically minded ganjistas, and a guide to pot-themed events and festivals worldwide. More serious stoners can expand their minds with essays on pot in politics, medicine, religion, and art.

                Product Description

Although there are different opinions about where cable television actually began, a great deal of the ingenuity that developed cable into today’s multibillion dollar industry came from Pennsylvania. In this state, with its mountainous geography, the need for an unusual means of obtaining a television signal gave birth to the community antenna television system that was the forerunner of the cable we know today. This volume traces the history of cable television through biographical sketches of those who were instrumental in bringing this technology to rural Pennsylvania. Enumerating technical as well as financial obstacles, each chapter focuses on the life of a cable pioneer. The contributions of such men as John Walson, Bob Tarleton, George Gardner and Ralph Roberts are discussed and their relationships to each other examined. Information drawn from interviews with these men or people who knew them brings history to life. Topics include the roots of cable television, problems of early cable systems and the advent of HBO and its consequences. An appendix offers a commemorative history of the Pennsylvania Cable Network, a joint project of several men discussed herein.

This is my textbook for a communtiy college class on Adobe Illustrator and it is a great book. I can go back and redo the lessons and get it!! While it doesn't cover any of the new features in CS3, this is an excellent guide to get your feet wet in Illustrator. It includes step-by-step instructions and leads you gradually through all the basic features of the software.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent tool for beginners.......2007-04-29

I bought this book for my husband to learn Illustrator (and also the companion book for photoshop). It is an excellent tool to teach the basics of illustrator, especially for someone who has never used the program before. It's not meant for people already familiar with the program but BEGINNERS, and it does a great job. I would highly recommend it to someone who wants to learn the basics. If you do the chapter work, you will learn Illustrator.

4 out of 5 stars a great book for learning Illustrator.......2006-12-21

I have worked through every page and exercise in both this book and the official Adobe "Classroom in a Book" for Illustrator CS2. Chris Botello's book (this one) is far better in my opinion. Chris covers features, topics, and techniques that the official book completely ignores (gradient meshes, as one of many possible examples). I suppose the official book may have a couple of very minor things that this book doesn't, but no book like this is completely encompassing. This book certainly comes closer to giving a fuller picture of what you can do in Illustrator than the official book.

While I find that some of the comments in other reviews below to be exaggerated, I do agree that a very small amount of the instruction text in just a couple of the particular steps of only a few of the tons of exercises could be worded better, but it's far from incomprehensible. Just a tiny amount of thinking and experimentation reveals the "why" of any step you may find baffling. I might even suggest that if this simple book befuddles you, maybe Illustrator isn't right for you altogether. No one will be holding your hand when you are doing *real* work with Illustrator.

Think of my 4 start rating as more of a 4-and-a-half star rating. I would have given the book 5 stars if it had been in full-color and included a CD. A very small number of the examples refer to a color you should be seeing in the accompanying picture, but the whole book is in black-and-white. That isn't really a big deal, since it's always obvious what the text is referring to. About the CD: while I'm sure it was a smart, cost-efficient solution for the publisher, including a CD with the book's example files would have been nice. As it is, you must download the examples from the publisher's website. Still, that isn't really a problem.

So, for greater exposure to what Illustrator CS2 does and how to do it, I highly recommend this book. It covers many features, has lots of exercises, and it has better-than-what-some-people-would-have-you-believe explanations for everything. It is worth spending time with.

5 out of 5 stars Easiest learning book I've ever used........2006-11-03

This text was bought for an art class for graphic design project production. At the time, I didn't know anything about Illustrator other than using the pen tool and some basic shapes and whatnot. While I haven't used many other references for Illustrator, this would have to be THE book I recommend for learning Illustrator. It goes through and systematically teaches you everything you need to know to be a mid to high level user of Illustrator CS2. If that's what you want to be, this book is for you.

1 out of 5 stars Pages coming out.......2007-05-10

I am not very satisfied with my purchase because the book it's brand new, and just take it to college once a week and I am very careful with it, now the pages are coming out of the book. It's like the glue used to put the book together is gone and the book is falling apart. I would like that you check that, I had the book with me and don't even take it to school anymore because of that problem.
                  Thank you for your time.

3 out of 5 stars Functional, but poorly constructed.......2007-04-10

This is a great book in it's color version only (if you're in a class or comfortable with illustration programs). But, don't bother with the B&W version Adobe Illustrator CS2 Revealed. While it doesn't matter that you don't get the CD, since you can download all the files from a source they provide you, it DOES matter if you can't keep the book together. It has pages falling out of it from the first time you open the book. Spend the extra money on the color version with the CD, the binding is much better.

1 out of 5 stars bad binding / no CD!!.......2007-02-19

This was a required course book for school and it is not advertised that this is not in color and that it doesn't contain the tutorial CD necessary to follow the book. I am severely dissapointed. The binding broke right away... bad glue?? I had to punch holes in it and put it in a binder...just like handouts. Ridiculous. It had been advertised as "new" and I am not satisfied with the product. The book is actually good.

My book had absolutley NO color images. My classmates books were all in color. The pages are falling out of the book, and it obviously a poor imitation of the real thing!!! Very disappointed.

                  1 out of 5 stars Don't Buy This Book.......2007-09-30

I bought this book for a Photoshop class and after wasting $40 We found out that there are several versions of this book and our class is on many different books all going different directions. I was stupid to assume that this book was a compilation of several of the Revealed books, that's somewhat true but when I got to chapter 6 of my assignments, surprise! NO CHAPTER 6 OR BEYOND. The books are eclectic and miss many steps along the way costing the reader loads of wasted time figuring out what you should have been instructed to do by the book. Isn't that what we pay for?? If you're an instructor who hates their students, or a student who likes to learn everything the hard way , I highly recommend this book.

2 out of 5 stars You Are Better Off Using the Dummies Series of Books.......2007-06-27

This books was required for a primer glass in graphic design. In the class, we learned to use both Photoshop and Ilustrator, two of the most powerful raster and vector graphics packages available.

The problem with the book is its lack of description, it's lack of explication. Within three pages of the Photoshop section, I was completely lost. This meant a trip to the library to find another textbook that explained what these authors did not. That led me to the CS3 Dummies books, and a far better understanding of the material.

I suggest with all my heart that instructors not use this poorly written book in your classes. You are better off with either the "Dummies" or "Classroom in a Book" series.

You poorly serve your students with this garbage.

2 out of 5 stars There are Two versions BEWARE.......2006-09-02

So I bought this book for a class, only to find out that I had purchased the black and white version, that does not come with a disk.

I guess thats why I only paid $ 20.00 for the book. Un benknownst to me the actual version that I needed was the deluxe Education edition. Who Knew?

As far as a text book...its really no different than any other written aide, which is why I do whatever I can to avoid text book.

If you really want to learn a software program use something like Total Traing DVD packages. I can say from exprience you will not be sorry. Its like being in an actual class and what they teach is not just how the software works but actual applications for the real world.

Its a digital age...dont read it, watch it.

1 out of 5 stars The WORST text book I have EVER had........2006-04-14

This book is an absolute waste of paper. Filled with ugly "designs", it focuses on completely unnecessary details while skipping whole sections of useful information. it seems most concerned with making the student duplicate horrible "projects" exactly down to the pixel... rather than teaching the tools.

Avoid this book! It will drive you insane.

You are better off just using the help system in any of these products... you will learn more...faster...without brain damage.

3 out of 5 stars Someone should have told the author it would print in b&w.......2005-11-07

Apparently no one told Chris Botello his book would be printed in black and white. In chapter 8 it says, "When this book was printed, the CMYK image was printed using all four process inks; the grayscale image was printed using only black ink." Sadly, both images were printed using only black. This isn't a huge problem except in illustrations where he refers to a certain color guide or box. I never had too much trouble figuring out what he was refering to because it's written in a very comprehendible way. The only other problem I had with the book may be related to the color/b&w issue as well. There is nothing differentiating tool names from the rest of the text in a sentence. Perhaps the tools were originally a different color from the rest of the text. We'll never know. This wasn't too much of problem except in sentences like, "Simply float the Type on a Path Tool pointer over the path until a plus sign appears beside the pointer, then click the path." I spent several minutes searching the menus for a Path Tool pointer to float my type over before I realized "Type on a Path Tool" is the full name of the tool. These issues haven't been too much of a problem. I still feel I'm learning the program sufficiently. It justs slows me down a little.
