Customer Reviews:
MY BOY LOVES READING.......2007-01-07
My 1st grader hates to put it down, he would rather read Magic Tree House books, than play video games. He even reads them to his class and explains the story for show and tell. In his kindergarten class the teacher would also let him read the Magic Tree House books out loud, not to give her a break, but to promote reading out loud. Great books!
DON'T READ IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-02-04

MAGIC TREE HOUSE OLYMPICS
By KRISTIAN
In the Magic Tree House there is a boy named Jack and A girl named Annie. They went to the OLYMPIC . Annie went And took her mask .The mask she had on was to act like a boy .The guard grabbed Annie she said get off of me! To get more info about how Jack and Annie got home read MAGIC TREE HOUSE
My favorite part was when Annie took her mask off and the guard grabbed her and she said get off of me . I like this book because it has good vocabulary word and it had good details I had NO connection .
The 5th grade will like this book first grade will not want to read such a long book
Second through 5th will like this book because if they are studying on something they will learn about it
I loved it!.......2005-03-20
The last Magic Tree House that I read was Hour of the Olympics. I liked it because it had a lot of interesting facts about the early olympics. I thought it was funny that some people wore armor when they ran in races! I suggest that you read this book!
Take An Hour And Read This Book.......2003-11-12
The book you are going to read about is called Hour of the Olympics. Mary Pope Osborne wrote it and she is a great writer. This story is about the first Olympic game. The two main characters are named Jack and Annie. This book comes from a series of books, so this is only one adventure. The problem in this story is that Jack and Annie are at the first Olympics and no girls are allowed. Annie sneaks in and gets caught. Can Jack get her out of this mess? To find out you will have to read Hour of the Olympics.

Customer Reviews:
Great series.......2007-03-21
This is a great series...and it says right in the description it is a cassette audiobook. Its really awful someone would give this a bad review for any reason. A lot of audiobooks are still on cassette.. unfortunate but true.
Not a Set of Books!.......2007-01-10
I mistakenly thought these were books and as they were intended as a Christmas present, was terribly disappointed. You can't tell by the title that they are NOT books, but rather cassette tapes. I don't think my grandaughter even owns anything that would play cassettes in this day and age! Be careful what you are ordering!

Book Description
The forefathers of neoclassical or conventional economics, beginning with Walras, wanted to build a psycho-mathematical science similar to celestial mechanics. However, during the first half of the last century, they succumbed to the charm of axiomatization: Hence, economics remains a stillborn science. Its theory is plagued with incongruities, generating misleading notions and policies that are detrimental to human welfare and environmental equilibrium. Its "truths" have significantly low half-lives, and its confused pronouncements have become an open ground in which "false consciousness" rumble unchallenged. This state of affairs calls for a fundamental revision. After reviewing the evolution of economics from Antiquity to the present and pointing to its inadequacies, Dominique proposes an alternative formulation which not only sheds light on the enduring features of market economics but also makes economics consistent with physics, the mother of all sciences. This is a challenging revision for scholars, students, and others involved with economic theory.

Book Description
While consumers are recognized as valuing market goods and services for the activities they can construct from them in the frameworks of several disciplines, consequences of the characteristics of goods and services they use in these activities have not been well studied. In this book, knowledge-yielding and conventional goods and services are contrasted as factors in the construction of activities that consumers engage in when they are not in the workplace. Consumers are seen as deciding on non-work activities and the inputs to these activities according to their objectives, and the values and accumulated skills they hold. It is suggested that knowledge content in these activities can be efficient for consumer objectives and also have important externalities through its effect on productivity at work and economic growth. The exposition seeks to elaborate these points and contribute to multi-disciplinary dialogue on consumption.
- Introduction: Consuming Knowledge
- Dimensioning Consumption: The Use of Knowledge in Non-Work Activities
- The Construct of the Valuing of Knowledge and Personal Consumption Expenditure in the U.S. National Accounts 1929-1989
- The Interaction of Non-Work and Work Activities: Cross-Domain Transfers of Skill and Affect
- Integrating Non-Work Activities into Frameworks of Economic Growth
- Directions for the Study of Knowledge Use in Non-Work Activities

Customer Reviews:
The revision is politically correct but lacks the punch........2007-07-05
The author had great intentions when he updated this book to be more politically and socially correct. However, I found a lot of the humor of the earlier edition to be lacking and will continue to look for the earlier edition.

Customer Reviews:
fascinating read.........2005-11-16
I don't normally write reviews for amazon, but I felt I had to say something about this book being that only one of its three reviews on amazon is positive. I recently checked this book out from the music library at Florida State University hoping to find out some information on psychedelic music. What I got was much more than I hoped. The book is incredibly well-researched, well-written, and thought provoking. It was easy to tell that the author is passionate about his subject matter, something I found when reading another one of Hicks's books on Henry Cowell, which always makes for an exciting read. Granted the book is aimed toward musicologists and music theory mongers--not your average dilettantes--so it is understandable that the theoretical language that Hicks so often uses is enough to alienate some. No flowery journalistic writing one would find in Rolling Stone Magazine here. Bravo!

60s Rock.......2000-10-26
Having been a musician in the 60s to the present, it was a real treat to read this book. Admittedly, none of us players never knew what "flat VII" chords were, but I still related to the musical examples and such. As a guitarist, I can agree with Mr. Hicks' belief that garage musicians arrived at their chord progressions because of the natural tuning of the guitar (i.e. in 4ths). I guess this book is going to be quickly and pleasantly understood by any primitive musician who eventually got degrees in music...!
extremely disappointing.......2000-08-27
I got this book because it had a picture of the Music Machine on the cover, but this is one boring book. It's hard to believe someone could write a book about 60's garage bands and make it boring, but Michael Hicks has done it.I was mildly interested in the chapter on the evolution of the song "Hey Joe",but that's about it.When will authors stop writing pompously about rock'n roll?(See an old issue of "Kicks" magazine to see how it should be done!)

Book Description
The Edwardian age (1904-1914) was the last time the rich could afford to build enormous country houses surrounded by formal landscaped gardens. These homes, where the owners often entertained guests at week-long house parties, were run by an army of servants working nearly round the clock. What happens when modern people volunteer to live in such a mansion - either as the owner and his family or as their servants - under the watchful eye of video cameras in every room? The Edwardian Country House, the companion book to the TV series of the same name, chronicles the experiment. The participants re-create the daily life of the time, both upstairs and "below stairs," with the help of authentic historical diary extracts, letters, advice manuals, and recipes. With color photos throughout, projects are also included to help readers re-create the period at home with a range of authentic Edwardian activities and crafts.
Customer Reviews:
More information about Manor House series.......2004-08-20
If you share my opinion that Manor House is one of the best reality series, you'll enjoy this book. As thorough as the series was, there are reams or reels or whatever of footage that never made it onto TV, so this book provides more information about Edwardian life, the participants and events of the series. It's an oversize book which unfortunately makes for awkward reading -- and it does have a lot of text that you'll want to read. However, the size makes for good display of photos, including many taken in Edwardian times and even at Manderstone, the house where the series was shot. So you see that they really did dress up in a thousand items of clothing just to watch cricket on the lawn or stroll around the grounds. A fascinating addition to a well-made series. I loved the series and could have watched ten times what they showed on TV and therefore really appreciate this book.
Good companion piece to the PBS series........2003-11-04
I missed most of the series on PBS, but what I saw looked very good, much better than the earlier 1900 House. This book is the companion to the TV program and is really better suited to those who have seen it as I found some parts a little confusing due to not having watched most of it.
The book gives a good background on the house itself but is skimpy on the program, reads almost like it is about a real Edwardian family, no details on family selection or what happened after their stay was over.
All of the photographs are very good, the little extra sections on the cast I found interesting (likely would've been better if I'd actually seen the show), the side bits on foods and other items were even interesting.
I did notice that, as in 1900 House, the experts setting up made a surprising blunder, here they forgot to check the possibility that a decades unused chimney might be blocked (which it was). Another thing I found little mention of was the Silver stair railing (does the show mention it?), something so unusal and only a couple of photo captions about it.
Not enough to be a time travelers textbook but a very good companion to the series.
Manor House Backstage.......2003-07-15
This is an excellent companion to the Manor House series on PBS. It combines the historical background of the Edwardian period, information about each of the participants in the project, recipes and instructions for making items seen in the series, and information that was not shown during the series, such as the story behind the pig's head (and whether Monsieur Dubiard was trying to gross out the Oliff-Coopers) and more about Guy's education (a surprise there!). I only wished it had information on the selection process and what happened after the series ended.

Visual Studio.Net All in One Desk Reference for Dummies.......2005-09-21
Very good, has lot's of practicle examples. A must have
Visual Studio.net not for dummies.......2003-09-10
The title of this tome is very misleading. I was expecting to find a guide to ease me slowly into the nomenclature and conventions of this very powerful software suite, but what I found was an advanced tip guide for intermediate users already familiar with version 6.0. Being a dummy myself in this field, I was very disappointed with my somewhat large investment in this guide. Also, it is not written in the plain, folksy manner that defines the best of this series. There's $35 I'll never get back. Definitely not for beginners!
Disappointing.......2003-05-23
Although usually I'm a big fan of the Dummies books, I was really disappointed by this one.
First of all it is not as "hands-on" as other Dummies books. For absolute beginners there is too much general theory (the kind of "I will explain something you don't know by something else that you don't know either"). On the other hand there is very little explanation on what exactly happens in the examples. Experienced programmers however will find this book not going deep enough. I guess the authors tried to satisfy all and ended up satisfying none.
Second point is that there are plenty of errors in the book...That's pretty frustrating if you want to get a program running, because you never know if it's YOU who made a mistake or if there is just another error in the book. I regret that I wasted so much time on this book, just to find again and again that there was an error in it.
Last point, which is crucial if you want to work with Visual Studio .NET on your own computer, and need to install everything on your own: there is little help on how to get the prerequisite software installed and running, like e.g. IIS (Internet Information Services) and Front Page Server Extensions. You will need them to work with Visual Studio .NET, and installation can be very tricky (actually I know of noone who got them running right away). So if the book doesn't cover these topics, it would at least have been helpful to add some resources where you can find help...
.NET for Dummies should .NET BY Dummies.......2002-10-02
Tons of errors, some don't even pass the simple syntax test.
Example:
Page 708 -
str = "Update Employees set Department = "@DPT, & _
& "Description = @DSG where EmployeeID = @ID"
Notice the use of & _ & at the end of the first and start of the second lines. This is wrong but not terminal. The real problem is that you will get a syntax error after Department = "@
These lines should probably read:
str = "Update Employees set Department = @DPT, " & _
"Description = @DSG where EmployeeID = @ID"
Now this is not just one isolated problem, there are many many more and when I emailed them for some help I did not get a response.
This book will not just waste your money, it will waste an even more precious resourse -- Your time.

Not a Visual Studio .NET book, it's a .Net language book.......2002-09-19
Well, I already have a number of .NET language books, I did not need any more. I enjoy the for dummies books because they start at the low level and work upwards from there. What I was looking for was a book that would tell me how to use Visual Studio.NET to it's maximum potential. Instead, I got 7 mini-books on how to program in each of the languages that Visual Studio offers. The title should be Programming in .NET for Dummies rather than using VS.NET in the title. I can write in any of those languages by using notepad, so this is a very misleading title.
However, I will not give this book an awful rating since it seems to be good at what it does say. Just be careful that you don't buy this thinking you're going to get a good reference on how to use Visual Studio - because this ain't it.
