Book Description
This book describes how car design and technology work through the eyes of the most talented and powerful car designers in the world. The interviews give a deep understanding of why we see what we see on the highways of the world. Author Tony Lewin has been a highly regarded magazine editor on the world stage for so long that some of the top young guns revealing all in this book were hanging on his words just a few years ago.
Customer Reviews:
Definitely not for beginner ... .......2007-09-25
I bought this book, and I find it that this book is not meant for beginner artist wishing to pursue proper car drawing insights. There's only a few pages explain about the basic infos on car drawings, but the rests of those pages are mostly about car designer's tastes of car drawings. If you're an intermediate artist, feel free to get this book. There ...
The first step into car design should be made with this book in hand.......2007-08-23
Before I bought this book I thought it would be full of tutorials, and I was wrong. actually you can get those tutorials on the web. But what suprised me was all of the great interviews with the big guys of this industry. This book really lets you know what are you going towards to, and really helps you illustrate the design process of a car, with maybe you involved, in your mind. After each reading session I felt like I have to go draw some cars, it was very inspiring.
If you're looking for a car design career, then this book will help you imagine yourself inside, besides inspiring you to start this journey.
Enjoy

Customer Reviews:
good info, but lacks technique.......2004-09-24
Book was good as my first book to understanding the painting types but lacked procedure. Book kind of jumps around a bit, not so much of a step by step or straight-forward approach. Does discuss safety, gun types, shop setup, paint systems(single stage vs. base coat/clear coat)metal and plastic prep procedures, but the author did ramble unnecessarily too much.
Just lacked overall concentration of the painting procedure itself.
Book Description
Contrary to the idea that the United States was liberal from its inception, Orren argues that both capitalism and constitutionalism proceeded upon a remnant of ancient feudalism. This was the common law of master and servant, embedded in the judiciary, cutting off the fundamental area of labor governance from democratic politics. The fully legislative polity that defines the modern liberal state was brought on through the industrial actions of trade unions in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and was established with the institutions of collective bargaining under the New Deal. The book represents a reinterpertation of American political development and of the role of the labor movement as a creator of liberalism, not a spoiler of socialism.

Understandable.......2006-12-21
This is a great translation of Dante. I've read a few translations of The Inferno - once in high school and a different one in college. This one was far clearer and had better notes that either of them. Also, I am a fan of hardcovers for books such as this - ones that you intend to keep around.
The story itself is fascinating - Dante's view of the afterlife, filled with beautiful literary devices. In the Inferno, for example, he will discuss different circles of hell, with different degrees of punishment, reserved for different sinners. The retribution that the sinners face always reflects their sins on earth.
For example, he visits those who have taken their own life. They are turned into trees and are mute - that is unless a branch is broken. In that case, they are able to speak through their blood while it flows. So, as they used their blood to say their final words to the world, so they can only use that as their means to communicate in hell.
Abysmal Translation, Good Notes.......2006-02-11
Reading this book gave one the impression that they could well sympathize with Hannibal's troops as they crossed the alps--one sets out with an obstensibly noble mission, but encounters massive casualties along the way.
Sisson's vers libre provides the vacuum within the bog. If the Divine Comedy is poetry, the Divine Comedy this is not. Poetry turned mundane.
However, his 235 pages of endnotes are massively helpful. The Divine Comedy was, in part, an exercise in commentary concerning contemporary politics. This veritable iceberg of symbolism's main bulk remains unseen without a strong dose of explanation for each page. Sisson offers the needed notes.
All things considered, a mixed-bag. An abysmal translation in text of this length is akin to adding the chains of Dickens's Marley onto the reader. Formidable scholarship regarding explanation of symbolism is, for the reader, analogous to Bouchard's discovery of the Rosetta Stone.
Divine Comedy.......2005-07-21
I found the cd very close to the book but abriged. I recommended even if you can't get thought the book which is difficult
The need for Quality Assurance ???.......2004-07-30
Dante stands alongside Shakespeare, Milton, & T.S Eliot et al. as one of the most profound minds and thinkers of our shared culture and history. Whilst the recording does not capture the tone and poetic sensibilities of Dante, It is tragic to say the least that anyone can publish a review - in particular those who can not even read (See Annie Feng's review). I think there is a need for some form of Quality Assurance to ensure that those who can appreciate art (regardless of their religious or philosophical stance) can read reviews that are of a genuine critical nature that understand something of the historical and literary context of a particular work rather than just bigoted condemnations !!! A good way of doing this would be to note the number of people who find a particular review helpful -
It is important to note that 0 out of 3 found Annie Fengs review of help !!! (good to see Annie gave the Angel DVD series 5 stars - i think this speaks for itself).
Could Annie and people like her please stick to the Angel series or at least learn to read - are u really over 13 years of age Annie ???
Bad recording of a Great Book.......2004-05-11
While the actor, Heathecote Williams, clearly can read, either he was a poor choice for this task, or the producers of this audio version had no experience with audio books. The production quality of this recording is terrible. I purchase a lot of audio books, but seldom have I had such a horrible listening experience.
The actor speaks in a droning monitone and then starts to yell in a high-pitched and squeaky voice.
I would suggest that you read this book rather than listen to this badly produced set of discs.

From the supplier: Medieval literature has been transmitted down to later generations through various forms, which have been extensively used to determine the hermeneutic possibilities present in medieval works. With modern technology, the process of determining these possibilities have become easier. However, technological innovations does not mean that ancient media such as the codex cannot anymore provide valuable insights into the history of medieval texts. The Codex Altona's revisions of the Divine Comedy shows ancient media's continuing importance in the study of literary works from the Middle Ages.

Book Description
1917. This study is offered for the consideration of those who are interested in the question of the meaning of literature to those for whom it was created, in this case a medieval audience unconscious of "sources" but greatly liking an implied moral. Though the present work is an investigation into the influence of Eucharistic teaching and practice in a circumscribed filed, there are undoubtedly other literary questions which may find an answer in the same influence and which may therefore repay study from the same point of view.
Book Description
Geoffrey Ellis spent forty years in the music business, working closely with the Beatles and Brian Epstein during the 60s, and Elton John and his management in the '70s. From an unrivalled position he has written a highly informed account of the music business from the 60s to the mid 90s and an insider's view of the careers of many of the most significant players. His insight is less than adulatory and often critical, in particular of the Beatles and Brian Epstein, his friend. During the '60s Geoffrey Ellis was chief Executive of NEMS Enterprises, Brian Epstein's company, at the time when the Beatles became global superstars. His book contains insights and stories, many previously unpublished, concerning the often tortuous business and personal affairs of Epstein, and the aftermath of his death. There is also much about Elton john, of whose management Ellis formed a vital part from the earliest days with Dick James Music and then with John Reid Enterprises, including a trenchant account of the High court action brought by Elton John against Dick James, in the course of which Ellis himself spent two and a half days in the witness box.
Customer Reviews:
Worthwhile for the committed Beatles reader.......2006-09-09
Rather than rehash the famous story one more time, or seek to glorify his own contribution, former Beatles accountant Ellis provides a brief but enjoyable trot through what he saw and did inside the history-making Beatles machine.
It's written in a clipped and somewhat fractured style, almost as if the author had to be persuaded to record his recollections for posterity's sake rather than his own, but it's all the more refreshing for that.
Look elsewhere for gossip, opinion or a Beatles bio, but pick it up if you're looking to round out your Beatles library.
And I do hope the other reviewer will soon be able to finish the book, and then his review.
I Should Have Known Better.......2006-03-22
So far, I have been unimpressed with this book. I am interested in the subjects, but don't care for the author's rather bland writing style.

this could have been a great book, but the ideas are buried in a sea of postmodern babble. After reading it 3 times, i found some good ideas, but mostly it just rambles. a disapointment.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent for beginners and intermediates!.......2003-05-24
This is an excellent book for getting up to speed quickly on GL 6. I would not call it for the advanced user, but it's excellent for beginners or intermediates with Golive. The tutorials are clear and concise, and the book is exactly what it advertises itself to be - it gets right to the point.
I wish there was also a good advanced book on GoLive that covered using scripting such as Java and CSS and dynamic content in detail, unfortunately there are none yet that are any good. Maybe Sams can do that too? But for beginners or intermediates with GL 6 who want to start using the software today, this is the book to get!
Very Good Start.......2003-04-28
I found this book to be a very good introduction to Web design using Golive 6. The lessons are short but well presented, they are fast, and they can be used immediately to my own practice projects. Although the GoLive interface seemed so unassuming when you first open the program, it can get filled up quickly once you begin working. The authors made sure that you don't get lost amidst the plethora of palletes. There is also the confidence that I am reading the work of competent Golive designers who can actually communicate what they know and teach an unknown audience cleverly. Sam's formula, if I may venture a guess works well for this book: plain English, competent authors, short but lively presentation and an exciting software. In only a few hours, I was already making my own web pages and amazed my friends. This book is a very good start in Web design using Golive 6. It is one of my best and most useful books!
Great Book!.......2003-01-30
I had never used GoLive before and was kind of freaked out when I first opened the program. Then I went to an Adobe seminar and one of the authors of this book was a presenter. He was really excellent and knowledgeable, so I decided to buy the book. I'm glad I did! I've now created two Websites and am starting my third. This time I'm getting paid! I know I still have a lot to learn, but this book got me up and running FAST. The best thing about GoLive is the way it works with my Photoshop files. If you haven't used this yet, check out the convert to banner trick!!!! Saves you tons of time!!!!!
Read it again!.......2003-01-22
After reading some of the reviews here I was afraid I'd made a poor choice because I had picked up this book in a store, but that couldn't be farther from the truth! The book is really easy to follow, laid out logically and the steps worked perfectly for me. Could it be that maybe some readers are new to computers and just don't understand the basics? Anyway, I created a Website using GoLive templates and couldn't be happier. All I have to do is update the template and Poof! my whole site is updated, too. Thanks to this book I learned this and lots of other great tricks. I especially like some of the tips in the book that relate to the Web in general. I like it. Anyway, that's my input. Hope it helps and thanks for listening.
So So.......2003-01-05
This was a So so book for the beginner and not as organized as Classroom in a book. I was a bit disappointed as a beginner.
