Customer Reviews:
Cage is hilarious.......2007-09-12
recently spent an enlightening evening with Diana Cage's "Box Lunch - The Layperson's Guide to Cunnilingus," a delightful manual on the fine art of carpet munching. Cage does a great job in writing a handbook that addresses people of every gender and sexuality.
In this laugh-out-loud guide, Cage covers everything from basic anatomy to advanced oral techniques that should provide you and whomever you fall into bed with hours of enjoyment! It's also a great introduction to things that some may consider a little bit kinky, but that most are at least curious about, like sucking dyke cock, anal play, and BDSM.
There's an informative chapter dedicated to health concerns because as Cage says, "Knowledge is power, and being powerful is hot!" She also manages four pages of "Fabulously Fun names to call your Pussy," including "Christina Aguilera" which is either a hilariously inane reference to pop music's dirty girl thrown in for the author's own amusement, or something that needs to be explained to me!
This is the kind of book that should be passed amongst lovers and friends alike. It's bound to provide enlightenment, laughs, and a little inspiration to get your nose out of a book and in between a woman's thighs!
Average at Best.......2007-08-23
I have no idea what compelled most of the reviewers to rate this book 5 stars. I read the book, and though it was somewhat entertaining and easy to read, it just didn't give me any special information. I assumed there were going to be some special tricks that I could use, but got little more than information about a few positions, a paragraph or two about how to lick, and then some info on doing anal. Interesting, sure, but nothing new. It's a decent read, but you probably won't learn anything new.
Good for putting you to sleep.......2007-05-29
This book spends one chapter on technique. Need I say more? The rest is Sex 101 information. If you're looking to learn how to improve your technique I suggest you just ask your partner for direction rather than read this.
Oral Sex Guide.......2007-05-21
Practical advice on how to perform oral sex is peppered with funny euphemisms, which make this guide hilarious in addition to providing great tips.
Better than a Bento.......2007-02-20
Diana Cage is amazingly funny and completely on target with this book- a hilarious and helpful guide to being a cunning linguist. I appreciate unlike some reviewers, the personal touches here- without her anecdotes this would be a fairly dull manual. As is, this book has adorable illustrations by Colleen Coover and more euphemisms for oral sex than I ever knew existed!

Book Description
The Nature of the Farm is a theoretical and empirical study of contracts and organization in agriculture based on the transaction cost framework. Transaction costs are important in agriculture because nature (for example, seasonality, weather, pests) plays such a critical role in determining output and limiting the ability of farmers to specialize. The book develops specific models and tests the implications of those models against data sets from across North American agriculture, as well as against historical case studies such as eighteenth-century European land contracts and the late nineteenth-century Bonanza farms in the United States.
The book is organized in three parts. Part I examines the classic question of what determines the optimal choice between fixed rent and cropshare arrangements, concluding that it is determined by a trade-off between incentives to overuse rented land and incentives to underreport shared output. Part II tests several predictions derived from a standard risk-sharing model of contracts and finds little evidence that risk sharing is important in contract choice. Part III extends the transaction costs analysis to broader organizational issues. It introduces seasonality and timeliness costs as forces influencing the gains from specialization and the costs of contracting, and finds that farm ownership and farm organization are routinely shaped by these forces.

Interesting facts, funny and a good read while traveling.......2004-07-01
Presidential Blips: Dips, Flips etc. is a fun read even though it needs to be updated, which I am sure the author is doing. I enjoyed it immensely.
It is terribly sad that in todays ghastly political climate many of the bloopers and missteps by our leaders depicted in this book would result in calls for censure, resignation or impeachment.
Just like the stupid stuff going around about VP Cheney giving Patrick Leahy a very long overdue and deserved dressing down. I mean it is not like Democrats have been all flowers and frills lately. They need to give us a break and just get over it.
It is actually refreshing to see politicians let their true feelings and personality traits come through once in a while.
My God why is no one asking Howard Dean, Ted Kennedy, Al Gore, or John Kerry to go to "Anger Management" courses, they have said offensive things recently.
And we are practically inundated with much worse in threaters, on TV and everywhere else today.
Gee let us not forget that Bill Clinton verbally attack an interviewer an no one seemed insensed about that. Or Hillary Clinton, who now suggest it for Cheney but who is herself reported to have yelled and used that same "F" word towards a Jewish person in the past and she was not sent to "Anger Management". Let us not forget the throwing of things in the White House (the peoples house) either. The hypocrisy is astounding.
It proves that they are all just human after all and not the Gods, Kings, Potentates or Prophets they sometimes think themselves to be. Nor are any of them the unblemished indispensable models of perfection we mere mortals sometimes try to cloak them in.
So, I very much enjoyed this book, which was a great airport and traveling companion, mostly due to the rather short nature of the information given. You could pick it up laugh a little and put it down and later take it up again without feeling like you lost the momentum of the book.
Ill tell you though, just to get my conservative dig into the mix. The one thing that really stood out in my mind, that completely justified me calling all politicians hypocrites. Is the fact that everyone on the left seemed to (including you know who) complain about the 70-80 million dollars spend by Ken Starr to do his job, as directed by that enabler Janet Reno herself. Yet in this book it says Bill Clinton spend 45 million (yep million with an m) just to go to China and accomplish nothing.
It must have been one of those legacy building taxpayer funded attempts at a legacy to match Richard Nixons historic breakthrough in China or Ronald Reagan's tearing down of the Berlin Wall.
I wonder how much Hillary spent taking that month or more long, around the world tour, with Chelsea when she found out Bill and all his cohorts in the White House and his Cabinet had willfully lied to the American people about his affair. Or how about all those taxpayer dollars to fund those so-called listening tours (which we all know without a doubt were illegal campaign trips) to New York to solidify her win of a Senate seat to keep the family involved in politics. I heard all these little trips came to many hundreds-of-millions of dollars!
They have marital problems and the poor children of America and the homeless and the out of work citizens must suffer and pay for her to travel and just get away or listen.
Gee where is Michael Moore when really disgusting political Blips were in progress? I enjoyed this book and recommend it for it's historical and it's comical nature.
Author's "Dips, flips...slips".......2001-08-29
I have never run into a "history" book so filled with errors, misspellings, misstatements, and omissions as "Presidential Blips" by B.S. McReynolds. I am no historian, but do read my fair share of presidential history. I had just begun the book when I saw that Carter had appointed the first black Secretary of State. Wrong -- Secretary of the Army. George Washington took a boat "to work, sailing...from Mount Vernon to Washington, D.C." Hardly, since the capital was in New York City and Philadelphia during his tenure. John Tyler was 59 when he remarried. No, only 54. There are errors in dates, names, and facts on, I would guess, one of every three pages of the 258 pages. It is hard to decide on a "personal favorite" mistake. There are just so many, and some are so bizarre as to call into question the factual basis of the entire book. "Martin Van Buren was the first U.S. President who was not a signer of the Declaration of Independence." Well, Washington, Madison, Monroe, JQ Adams, and Andrew Jackson -- in office before Van Buren -- didn't sign it. Alben Barkley, Truman's veep, is referred to as "Albern W. Barkly." The "olny" (sic) presidents to be left-handed? Oops, George Bush (# 41) isn't listed. Benjamin Harrison's veep of the first term wasn't renominated at the "1832 Republican Convention in Cincinnati..." Sorry, but that was in 1892 and it was in Minneapolis. The book may have some interesting comments, some illuminating stories, and some rarely-discussed events. But a reader can't rely on much when so many inconsistencies, errors, and omissions are rampant throughout the book. McReynolds uses one entire page of text and illustration to ridicule Dan Quayle's spelling problems. People who live in glass houses...........
Errors, Errors, Errors.......2001-03-07
This book is loaded with errors. Some simple, like dates, but others much more interesting. On p. 227 we learn "No vice president who succeeded into the highest office has ever won an additional presidential term by election." Maybe in the 19th century, but Teddy Roosevelt, Harry Truman, and Lyndon Johnson all were VP's who became President and won election in their own right. The book ignores TR and Truman, but does tell the reader L. Johnson was a loser. Wrong. Lots of minor date errors. One example on p. 133 we learn, "After winning the 1856 election, Franklin Pierce..." Excuse me, but Buchanan won the 1856 election. On page 65 we learn, "Six of the nation's First Ladies were previously wed before entering the White House." Excuse me, but almost all the First Ladies were previously wed before entering the White House. However, what they meant were previously married to men other than the President. The book includes Mrs. Nancy Davis who became Nancy Reagan. Not true. Ronnie was her first husband, and the authors ignore Betty Ford who was previously married. Although the book has its enjoyment, I wonder how many other errors are in it which I'm not aware of.
A Trivia book of Presidents........1999-04-07
I have read and enjoyed Presidential Blips and have now seen our Presidents in a new light. They are both sometimes funny and ridiculous. Most entertaining for ages......teens to retirement. Presidential Blips--I have found informative and enlightening from our first President, George Washington, to Bill Clinton. Litttle known facts as to who our first gay president was to the never talked about fact that the United States has had two presidents who were slaves before stepping into our nations highest office! . (Page 250) This book is a fun gift for anyone who enjoys both humor and trivia with a touch of history. I highly recommend this book. Lee Young

Customer Reviews:
Highly recommended!.......2006-09-07
This lively and accessible book explores the musical traditions of five broad groups - Native Americans, European Americans, African Americans, Latino Americans, and Asian Americans - with particular interest in how those multicultural roots have intermingled to create contemporary American music.
Along the way, author Elizabeth Barkley achieves a near impossible feat: presenting concise and candid histories of each cultural group, in addition to equally concise and clear explanations of the stylistic elements of their music. These elements are reinforced by the companion CD, which provides 18 listening examples with commentary.
My only criticism is that the book suffers from inattentive editing. For example, the first citation in Chapter One is "Ibid." Several photo captions apparently include layout notations not intended for readers' eyes, sometimes to a mildly humorous effect. The content deserves better.
Though designed for college students with no prior musical training, this book will be invaluable to high school and college music teachers wanting to infuse more diversity into their coursework, or for social studies teachers wanting to infuse more popular culture. I would also recommend it to those specifically interested in African American music since - not surprisingly - about half the chapters touch on it in one way or another. Highly recommended!

Book Description
The transcultural impact of Latin American musical forms in the United States calls for a deeper understanding of the shifting cultural meanings of music. Musical Migrations examines the tensions between the value of Latin popular music as a metaphor for national identity and its transnational meanings as it traverses national borders, geocultural spaces, audiences, and historical periods. The anthology addresses the role of popular music in Caribbean diasporas in the US and Europe; the trans-Caribbean identities of Salsa and reggae; the racial, cultural, and ethnic hybridity in rock across the Americas; and the tensions between tradition and modernity in Peruvian indigenous music, mariachi music in the United States, and Trinidadian music.

Will the tsunami wave of change sweep Christianity away? Or will religious followers be able to ride the cresting tidal wave of cyberterrorism and social malaise that threaten Christian values in the 21st century? Rather than sink into denial or flee to safe bunkers, Sweet suggests that devout Christians "hoist the sails" just as Noah did when faced with a flood. "While the world is rethinking its entire cultural formation, it is time to find new ways of being the church that are true to our postmodern context," writes author Leonard Sweet, vice president of postmodern Christianity at Drew University in Madison, New Jersey. This book is packed with suggestions (framed as "Life Rings") for keeping Christianity a thriving and vital global force. "Life Ring" chapter titles include "Get Glocal--the Global Renaissance," and "Get De-Churched-De-Everything." Although the tsunami metaphor feels overextended, devout Christians appreciate the savvy and passionate vision of this popular author.
Book Description

Customer Reviews:
a tad redundant, but good.......2007-07-04
I really enojoyed Leonard Sweet's book "Postmodern Pilgrims" and felt like it had an awful lot of really good things to say about the postmodern paradigm shift. I say that to say that I came into reading this book in a very positive way, and looked forward to what I was going to read.
The book overall was pretty good. I liked a lot of the content, and I liked the way that he seeks to engage the postmodern world, which I believe is an absolute must for ministry now. Not that he says we need to all become postmodern, but that we need to ENGAGE the culture with the gospel, and should therefore have a clue about the culture.
My main critique of the book is that he tends to overstate his points: excessively. So instead of saying "the sky is blue," we're going to get more like "The sky is blue, and furthermore the sky is not black but it's blue, and furthermore it's not red but it's blue. The sky is blue." That's being overdramatic, but that's the sense I got from the book. It could have been a lot shorter, and still have covered the same amount of material.

Forecast of a Post Modern Tidal Wave.......2004-07-10
Acting as a cultural meteorologist, Leonard Sweet wrote Soul Tsunami in 1999 as a forecast of the Post Modern tidal wave that was about to strike the shores of American Christendom. As he predicted, the wave has hit and has left many casualties in its wake. The church body count continues to rise, while wise leaders who prepared for it are thriving.
The book serves as an introduction to ministry in a Post Modern culture. At times he seems to be an apologist for Post Modernity. You probably won't always agree with the writer but he will give you a look into the mind of the culture. His presentation of the current ministry realities makes this a significant book and certainly worth the read.
Sweet is a chaotic, quirky, witty, and sometimes annoying writer. If you want a real experience, listen to the audio book. It is a unique and an attention keeping creation. In fact, I'd recommend the audio version over the written effort.

Getting De-Churched and opening up your mind........1999-08-31
Recently, the staff of the church where I work read through this book in preparation for a two-day brainstorming session on reaching our culture. This book opened up our minds and caused us to think in new directions. One of Sweet's pleas is for Christians to get De-churched. To get outside our normal view and begin to evaluate why we do what we do. The culture today thinks that the church is an unloving, boycotting machine that is out to destroy their way of life. If we are so arrogant to think that we can fit them into the box that we have labeled "church", then we will be swept away by the coming tsunami. I highly recommend this book for anyone in ministry because it acts as such a mind trigger, stimulating your thoughts and ideas and forcing you to be creative about your plans from ministry in the next century. Postmodernism may be a somewhat new concept for many of you in ministry, but it's time to learn. God Bless
A gyroscope for the postmodern church.......1999-05-14
I purchased Leonard Sweet's SoulTsunami looking for a "road map" to postmodern culture. What I got was a gyroscope. But a road map is useless to one adrift in the strange and disturbing waters of postmodernism. That's exactly where we are, church, and that's precisely why we need a new tool - a gyroscope, not a road map -- to navigate through these uncharted waters.
The terra firma of the modern world has given way to the fluid, amorphous culture of postmodernism. It is an ocean on which the "old ship of Zion" must set sail. This book's subtitle, "Sink or Swim in New Millennium Culture," aptly sums up the challenge postmodernism presents to the church.
SoulTsunami is engaging (who could tell from Sweet's straightforward writing style that he's actually an academic?), comprehensive (well researched and chock full of facts), and disturbing (especially, for me, Life Ring #5, "Get Bionomic," a fascinating and soul-agitating glimpse into our future). Yet Sweet's appraisal of the postmodern predicament is honest and right on target. Approach this book with an open mind, accept Sweet's challenges (even if you don't agree with everything he says), and be prepared to "get over" any pre-conceived ideas of how the Christian faith ought to be.
SoulTsunami should be on the reading list of every pastor, cell group leader, choir member, church organist, youth minister/worker, and pew-warmer.
