Customer Reviews:
One of the Best.......2007-07-03
This book combines the Ying and the Yang. It creates a professional bonding that is so powerful it makes your heart expand for all that is good in the world.
The characters are well developed proffessional women who personify dedication and integrity.
The love for a child, a mother-in-law, and for a lost soul mate is very powerful.
I found myself feeling the heart renching discovery of memories lost but never forgotten.
An absolutely amazing read, which leaves the reader wanting more, but never questioning that these characters will live happily ever after.

Radclyffe at Work.......2007-03-16
Some of Radclyffe's most believable and spectacular books utilize her professional expertise, medicine, to great advantage. As in all of her novels, her surgical skill is in evidence with prose pared down to clean essentials; never a cliche and original images that linger after the reader has closed the book.
Quite Possibly Radclyffe's Best Book Ever..........2006-08-25
`Fated Love' is quite possibly Radclyffe's best book ever. A pseudo-sequel, but more appropriately a companion piece to `Passion's Bright Fury,' this novel introduces Rad's most colorful, well-developed, and unforgettable characters.
The reader's heartstrings are pulled tight as the story of former surgeon Quinn Maguire is unveiled. Quinn, a student and colleague of Saxon Sinclaire, suffers from a heart condition that may permanently keep her out of the operating room. Blessed with a natural talent for surgery, Quinn believes her life is over. With help from Sinclaire, she lands a job as an ER physician working for the enigmatic and solitary Honor Blake. As her feelings for her new boss, Honor Blake, spin out of control, Quinn feels even more helpless.
Honor's past is just as devastating. Her late wife died from cancer, leaving her alone to raise their daughter with the help of her mother-in-law. Even years after her death, Honor's love for her wife remains so intense that she won't allow herself to love another. That is, until Quinn enters her life and turns her world upside down.
Interesting, dimensional characters... a heart wrenching story line... well-developed past lives and grand hopes for the future... Radclyffe has outdone herself with this one.
Here's hoping for a sequel some day.
It'll make you melt........2006-07-31
Radclyffe is one of the best authors of romance around.
In "Fated Love" we are thrown into the medical arena (the author's profession).
Quinn and her supervisor Honor have too much sexual tension going on, you can almost cut it with a knife.
Here again, the author has integrated children into her novel. Lesbians with children is a good thing.
Loved everything about this book.
Radclyffe does romance right!.......2006-05-09
"Fated Love" is an engrossing romance and an excellent representation for the genre. Radclyffe brings to life the relationship and romantic love between two noteworthy characters who command respect and admiration. In a compelling medical setting, with prose that often rings poetic, and with a most satisfying conclusion, Radclyffe delivers what romance readers expect and what this reviewer and many readers believe is her best romance yet.
What makes a great romance? Simple, two loveable and intriguing characters that not only capture each other's hearts but the reader's heart as well. Radclyffe makes an art out of writing appealing characters that readers find fascinating.
Dr. Quinn McGuire is brilliant, tender, easy-going, patient, drop-dead gorgeous, and has a keen sense of humor. It is easy to fall in love with her and wish she were not only real, but cloned too. At twenty-eight, having completed a trauma fellowship, she has a promising surgical career in a leading New York City hospital. One has to wonder why she would leave it all for an emergency room position at Philadelphia Medical Center. The career change is a step down but things look up when Quinn sets her sights on the lovely Dr. Honor Blake. Honor can't deny the attraction to the newcomer of the department but her heart is under lock and key. In addition, she is leery of why a highly skilled surgeon would take a demotion. What is Quinn hiding? Quinn could ask the very same question of Honor as she has hidden secrets too.
Quinn is a real charmer when she tells Honor, "With everything that's going on in my life right now, I can't figure out why I should feel so happy, but I do. I think it has something to do with being with you" (p. 152). She is so romantic even without trying. Honor finds it impossible to ignore her feelings for Quinn but she fights it as best she can.
Honor is an equally admirable character. She's sensible, smart, responsible, loyal, and has a propensity for honoring the woman whose wedding ring she wears. She captures Quinn's attention from the moment she gazes her way.
Radclyffe also imparts words of wisdom the reader can draw upon. Quinn describes how she deals with stress. "I'm not actually calm. I just seem to have this place inside me where things stop moving for a while. I go there, I guess, when everything outside of me is moving too fast" (p.150). It sounds like a very good idea.
Medical professionals will appreciate the authenticity Radclyffe weaves into her work and laymen will feel privileged to be privy to the world of medicine. The author takes special care to ensure that readers don't have to be physicians to understand the medical jargon or to feel a part of the action.
"Fated Love," a 2005 GCLS award-winner, is a sizzling, sexy, and satisfying romance. Adept characterization make Quinn and Honor easily feel like close friends. I highly recommend this tightly constructed, well-crafted, entertaining, thought provoking romance to everyone who has a heart. It is that good!

Book Description
The glitter and excitement that tourists associate with casinos is only a facade. To the gaming industry's front-line employees, its dealers, the casino is a far less glamorous environment, a workplace full of emotional tension, physical and mental demands, humor and pathos. Author H. Lee Barnes, who spent many years as a dealer in some of Las Vegas's best-known casinos, shows us this world from the point of view of the table-games dealer.
Told in the voices of dozens of dealers, male and female, young and old, Dummy Up and Deal takes us to the dealer's side of the table. We observe the "breaking in" that constitutes a dealer's training, where the hands learn the balletic motions of the game while the mind undergoes the requisite hardening to endure long hours of concentration and the demands of often unreasonable and sometimes abusive players. We discover how dealers are hired and assigned to shifts and tables, how they interact with each other and with their supervisors, and how they deal with players - the winners and the losers, the "Sweethearts" and the "Dragon Lady," the tourists looking for a few thrills and the mobsters showing off their "juice." We observe cheaters on both sides of the table and witness the exploits of such high-rollers as Frank Sinatra and Colonel Parker, Elvis's manager. And we learn about the dealers' lives after-hours, how some juggle casino work with family responsibilities while others embrace the bohemian lifestyle of the Strip and sometimes lose themselves to drugs, drink, or wild sex. It's a life that invites cynicism and bitterness, that can erode the soul and deaden the spirit. But the dealer's life can also offer moments of humor, encounters with generous and kindly players, moments of pride or humanity or professional solidarity.
Barnes writes with the candor of a keen observer of his profession, someone who has seen it all-many times-but has never lost his capacity to wonder, to sympathize, or to laugh. Dummy Up and Deal is a vivid and colorful insider's view of the casino industry, a fascinating glimpse behind the glitter into the real world of the casino worker.
Customer Reviews:
Brilliant writing and an insiders pov at gambling.......2002-11-04
This wonderful collection of non-fiction accounts on the other side of the table is a true and accurate look at what makes the casinos tick: not the people who come with the money, but the people who take it. Lee Barnes has a gift and it is to conjure so many voices into one cohesive book. It is funny, sad, and terrible. If you ever wanted to know who lives in Las Vegas, read this.
Talented author without heart.......2002-10-20
Though the writer is obviously gifted, and the stories are without a doubt amusing and accurately detailed, the author seems distant from his characters.
The author seems to stay un-involved and to coldly inspect his subjects as though they were fireflies in Mason jars, or butterflies on pins.
The writing is superb, but the lack of involvment in the characters inner workings and lives, leaves these stories sounding like a girlfriend repeating a soap opera in the office, to someone who missed an episode.
I'll lay off with these last words. The author should look into his own heart and write real, breathing characters, not try to bring to life cardboard cutouts. No matter how excellent it is, it must heart. This book does not have heart, though it does have plenty of good writing.

Customer Reviews:
HUH!!!.......2007-05-03
If your a collector than this tab book is good for you. If you wanna learn how to play some Dime tunes than DON'T GET THIS BOOK! It has the wrong tabs for "Walk". Common now. I'm really dissapointed. The band Pictures are cool though. What I'm saying is... I should have read the reviews!
I thought it was just me.......2003-01-28
I agree with the guy from the UK when he says this was the worst he ever owned. I'm sorry, but the numerical displacement on even the simplest chords was hard enough to decipher. Instead of trying to read the tab, i almost always had to rewrite the tab using a word processor before the tablature became clear enough for me to read. I really can't say that it is wrong, because when i did rewrite/decipher/copy some tab, it was correct. The solo for "This Love", on the other hand, was hardly worth printing. As the author explains, "unlike other songs, intricate fast licks are not presented here. However, play it with emotion while making good use of the wah-wah pedal." This quote, straight from the book, shows that apparently, "good use of the wah-wah" can make up for a lot that was simply not shown. You want to at least not waste time figuring out stuff like that when you spend 25 bucks on a official tab book. (I know it's much cheaper here, but it's what i payed). And, on a good note, this book has some of the most awesome pictures of PanterA in it i've ever seen. the pictures are pretty cool. And finally, this book got the three stars because of it's transcription of "Mouth For War", possibly worth the price of the book itself. A necessity for PanterA fans out there and those like them.
worst tab book i've ever owned.......2002-04-07
i've been playing guitar for about ten years and have owned many tab books in that time of which this is certainly the worst.
to start with the tab is actually different to previous published copies which i own, and in places just appears to be wrong. some of the solos for example have been tabed to run over several strings when it is just played on one, making the actual music more difficult to play and disjointed, this difference in positioning appears frequently throughout the book.
it is also written in a non standard format with different notations and fonts unlike anything i have experienced before and this makes it confusing in places and occasionally difficult to distinguish which strings the notes are supposed to be played on. the bass and drum tabs are also mixed in which doesn't make it any clearer, but at least you get more value for money which i can say is the only redeaming feature.
the forewords at the start of each song are usually increadably obvious (the use of palm muting and distortion, like you dont know that already if your in to pantera!) and in places uninformative.
the songs are in alphabetical order not as they are arranged on the respective albums so you have to look up the page number to find the song you want.
the book leaves out some of the best and most difficult songs on both albums (regular people, medicine man, rise, etc)and retains simplistic songs like ... hostile.
pantera are one of my favourite bands and this book is far inferior to previous publications, its more like its been written by a 15 year old for his school project than someone who actually knows what they're doing. at its price its only worth it if you are really desperate and cant get hold of the proper tab anywhere else. i found the standard of this tab to be poor and unacceptable and i sent it back for a refund, which i have not regretted.
a waste of money and an injustice to the music.
Power selection.......2000-12-31
A very well explained book, includes transcription of guitar, plus drums, bass vocal and some other sounds that may appear. Includes comments on every song about the rhytms, weird sounds, vocals, all!
Serious music to listen and play, this book gets all the power in Pantera which sound is best explained by a description they share with no other band: Power Groove (heavy, riff-oriented feel).
You won't regret getting this!

Book Description
Sex Carnival is a whimsical, eye-opening record of one man's travels into the bold new world of porn. Bill Brownstein provides a guide for the uninitiated and the bewildered, a hands-on intro for anyone who wonders why the porno biz has become so mainstream in just the last few years. Brownstein's global travels take him from watching Tristan and other sex superstars accept their trophies at the annual porn awards ceremony in Las Vegas to witnessing the weekend shopping sprees of Dutch families as the kids push their grocery carts through the biggest sex supermarkets on earth. He takes us from dungeons and dragons pleasure chambers in New York to a different kind of pleasure-the rough trade in Hamburg. And along the way, he stops off to catch some lap-dancing in Montreal and all kinds of unexpected action at the sex bars of Paris. Brownstein provides a lively account of the business of sex and reveals his encounters with a universe of titillation that is fresh, original, naughty, and very bizarre.
Customer Reviews:
Eros For Sale, Reporting for Laughs.......2001-09-10
The result of a publisher asking Bill Brownstein to check out global sex hot spots, _Sex Carnival_ (ECW Press), is Brownsteinýs rambling, jocular account of completing that assignment. His chapters are arranged by city in Europe, the US, and Canada; his publisherýs budget prevented Bangkok. He got to see some places that if you are like me, you are curious about, and also if you are like me, you wouldnýt get caught dead in. Take, for instance, the Porno Oscars at the Venetian in Las Vegas. The lovely Tristan Taormino picks up her award for best tape devoted to a particular sexual act. "Oh, my God! This is so wonderful!... I just want to thank my mom and dad..." The Adult Video News Award show has become so mainstream that there is now a prize for Best Non-Sex Performance. When Brownstein gets to chat with John Leslie ("The Cecil B. DeMille of Porn"), he discovers a theme that runs throughout this book. Often the people in sex businesses are very conventional. Leslie paints landscapes, plays harmonica in a blues band, grows his own food, and has a marriage lasting two decades. His wife explains that she met him in 1980, when he was famous for his performances in front of the porn cameras. "He was a huge star - well, you know what I mean..."
Brownstein gets to interview the seventy-four year old Hugh Hefner at the famous Playboy Mansion. "All of what has happened in my life," Hef says, "has not made me cynical, has not made me overly sophisticated or jaded. I am still very much the boy who dreamed the dreams and stayed connected to them." Perhaps this explains his five girlfriends, the ages of four of which it would take to add up beyond his own. He has, once again, displayed great timing. Pfizer Pharmaceuticals marketing division, take note: Hef says about Viagra, "When you have five girlfriends, you need it... It's the best legal recreational drug out there." Nearby in Beverly Hills is Lou Paget who gives seminars on the themes of her best-selling books, _How to be a Great Lover_ and _How to Give Her Absolute Pleasure_. She also gives private lessons and group instruction on fellatio. This explains why Brownstein sees her dishwasher is full of latex phalluses; she takes a briefcase full of them to her classes for student use. They lie who say she uses fruits or vegetables.
Amsterdam is hot. Paris is not. And remarkably, Montreal seems quite a fetish capital. It goes without saying that Brownstein has picked the less seedy venues of commercial sex for his entertaining explorations. The people he interviews make legal livings, and he'd be less amusing if he were looking at the darker side of his carnival. Nonetheless, sticking to the high end of what is now popular entertainment has given him a platform to make jokes and open eyes, and to let us in on an international and surprisingly human aspect of the pursuit of happiness.
Not for the unsophististicated........2001-05-27
Bill Brownstein is not for the purient either. He has an air of engaged detachment but is absorbed despite himself. He provides an overview of some interesting parts of the multi-billion dollar porn industry. But it is an interesting business. Brownstein manages to see the subtle humor in what is a serious business to most.
He reminds me of Calvin Trillin who wrote for the New Yorker about which was the best chili restaurant in Cincinnati. Trillin didn't care which was best but made the reader interested in the fact that people there did care which was best.
But don't belive me read the book. Be ready to have people stare at you when you LOL...
Underwhelming.......2001-02-20
Unfortunately, this book does not succeed in being either 1) a juicy and thought-provoking expose, or 2) a well-written and engaging travelogue. It reads like a series of PG-rated magazine articles strung together with very little theme or continuity. The writing is journalistic and pretty bland. Wouldn't recommend it, especially at $15-$20 retail for a thin paperback you could finish in a day and will never touch again.

critically explores the world's most popular form of television drama. Among the many questions raised are why the soap opera is universally popular but frequently reviled as low culture trash. Several contributors tackle the pleasures and perils of US daytime soaps while others look at the manifestations of soap in Latin American countries.
In addition to providing a fascinating insight to soaps and soap watching around the world,

Great Book.......2007-06-11
Currently I am a CS student in my senior year. I am taking my final for the class tomorrow and the book has done an excellent job of taking some complex topics and translating them into legible english. That being said, I will just explain some of the flaws.
The first problem is the pictures or figures in book which are trying to give a visualization of the topics being explained. There a surprising amount of figures in the book that are completely horrid. I mean that they just either further add confusion or are just completely useless. Very shocking because the author/authors are very talented with words, yet seem to very bad when it comes to creating visualizations. There are a few with flat out errors as well.
The second problem is that the questions in the back of each chapter are a catastrophe. The questions are typically just very vague or just aren't very good questions. For instance, there is a question that is similar this
"Does virtual memory need to be supported by the operating system of a handheld system?"
The answer in the teachers guide is apparently "yes". But clearly, this answer is truly "no". Handheld device operating systems don't NEED to support virtual memory. There are plenty of handheld devices that don't, and certainly you don't ever NEED to support alot of things. The question really means to ask "Is it beneficial for a handheld device to support virtual memory?" The obvious answer that is "of course". I got this question wrong on my homework, but myself and a few others talked with the teacher and he quickly agreed that we were right. There are just far too many questions like this that are poorly written.
Regardless of these two problems, the book is really well done.

Well written book with a lot of figures and diagram.......2006-04-20
This book was well written. I am a graduate computer science student, who rarely used this book, but when I had reviewed the book provided detail information. This book helps you understand a lot about the overall fundamentals of Computer-System Structure, Processes, Threads, CPU Scheduling, Synchronization, Deadlocks, and Memory Management.
