Good Ideas .......2007-09-08
I'm pretty much a beginner beader. I've been beading for about two years. Primarily I make bracelets. Often, when trying to use someone's pattern for a bracelet, I get stuck trying to make the clasp. Either I don't have the right beads on hand or I just can't follow what the pattern says. That's when I turn to this little book. I wouldn't be without it. There is a lot of info in here for beginners, but there are also a lot of ideas for finishing your piece. I would recommend this book for anyone who would like a little reminder of the simpler ways to finish your pieces, or for someone who needs some "how to" instruction.
Should be "seed beads" in the title.......2007-06-20
I purchased this book based on the 4 star review ratings and the title. While this is a beatiful book with many great pictures, there is very little on making your own findings. It is mostly about seed beads, something I am not very intersted in. There are also lots of purchased findings, but even a novice like me knows how to use a purchased clasp! If you want to learn how to make your own findings, buy another book. Bead on a Wire is much better and great for begineers.
Findings & Finishings: A Beadwork How to Book.......2007-06-07
Very good book with many findings options; however, I had expected more examples of creating my own findings
Comprehensive.......2007-05-09
This has a very complete complement of the various finding and finishes for all types of jewelry. The instructions were well written and diagrammed. Not a book I would recommend to beginners, but for someone with some experience in beading.
Finding & Finishings: A Beadwork How-To Book.......2007-01-19
I was felt this book is only good for a beginner. And unless you want seed bead projcts with bulky seed beed togles well you may want another book. This book clearly demonstrates things like crimp beads, so if that's what you want this may be helpful to you
Book Description
Bestselling author Steve Farrar has good news for the average man: it doesn't matter if you've had a great start in the Christian life, or a rough one. It doesn't matter if you've stumbled time and again, or even fallen flat on your face. What matters most in this all-important race of life is how you finish. According to Farrar, the man who hangs in there for the long haul with his wife, his kids, and his Lord is an exception these days. Finishing Strong, now in trade paperback, offers lively use of Scripture, contemporary illustrations, and study questions to equip every reader to be that exception. For the man who wants to climb the character ladder more than the corporate one, this is an essential tool.
From the Trade Paperback edition.
Customer Reviews:
Finishing Strong: Going the Distance for Your Family.......2006-08-24
It is a great resource for a man to know God's direction for his family. It is something that we would recommend for every man.
Misses the mark........2006-01-12
We read this book in our men's group for church. The other men in the group like this book. I did not like it as well. The best part of the book is the character studies. He looks at both the best known and the least known characters of the Bible and draws conclusions. Farrar does this well and it is challenging. Another good feature of the book is the discussion guide at the end. The questions are very good and facilitate good discussions.
The book has a good beginning. Farrar paints a grim picture, perhaps accurately, of how few men finish strong in the faith. This is a great wake-up call to faith. He uses anecdotal evidence and some statistics to prove his point. This brings me to one of the major flaws of the book. Logic is not his strong suit. For example, he lists from his research several things that these men did not do that stopped them from finishing strong. One of the points is that these men who did not finish strong were not in a small group. I can not agree or disagree with this. I agree small groups are important. However, his logic is flawed. These men did not do a lot of things. They probably did not walk on the moon. They probably did not swim the English channel. This inaction in these areas probably did not stop them from finishing strong. One can exhort men to meet in small groups from the evidence of scripture. One can also research men who did finish strong. One can may be able to assert after research that all these men were in small groups. This also does not prove the point, but it is better than what he wrote. Do not insult my intelligence by using questionable logic and spotty research.
His exegesis is questionable at times. In one case he takes a passage of scripture and proves his four points. The exegesis is stretched to prove the points, but at least he tries. Then he writes, well you have include this fifth point if you want to finish strong. He does not prove the point from scripture. It is a good point, but why use scripture at all if he is simply going to assert principles from his experience?
The other men in the group like his writing. I found it too folksy, too cute, and too repetitious. I have just one more disagreement with the book. He talks about vision, but his focus is on the family. The Church is not mentioned at all in this book. The Church is the pillar and support of the truth. The Church is the body of Christ. How he could leave this out as part of staying strong in the faith? This lack does not make sense scripturally or spiritually. He focuses on the family. This is good. However, the church is a family of families. Our ministry needs to be within its context. We need to finish strong within the body of Christ.
Good Read for Those Who Want to Finish Strong in Their Lives.......2004-03-04
Farrar's title is an excellent encouragement for those who desire a strong finish to their lives.
Among the points Farrar covers include:
1. The qualification for ministry is proven character.
2. Be careful of relationships with other women.
3. God's success radically differs from the world's definition of success.
4. Do not let a busy lifestyle come between you and your relationship with God.
5. Uninterrupted success for a prolonged period of time can result in a dangerous form of pride.
6. Characteristics of people who think they are leaders but are not.
7. God will use our times of unemployment, obscurity, waiting, and loneliness to mold us into the people He wants us to be.
8. God can use the failures and disappointments of our lives to mold us into His likeness.
All in all, a good and recommended read!
An Awesone Read.......2003-11-12
This book is a must read for all men, and also women to understand and guide their husbands, brothers, fathers etc. It is extremely enlightening, and I would and have recommended it to everybody I know both male and female. My husband has leant his copy of the book to many of his friends to read, and they have all returned with positive feedback. In an age where divorce rates are soaring and families are in dispair, this book is extremely essential. I will definately be exploring more books by Steve Farrar.
A must read for fathers and sons..........2003-04-30
I bought this book for my sons to "give" to their father on Father's day, but wanted to read it first. It is so simple, yet profound, that I bought two more copies and put them away for my boys, when they are young men.
If there is one book you give to a male christian family member or friend this year make it this one. Steve cuts to the chase and tells it clear and real, yet shows the hope that God gives, no matter what our past, or present. Full of encouragement and practical advice.

Customer Reviews:
Great.......2005-08-10
Very inspirational, encouraging,.............I really love this book and I recommend it for anyone that's trying to follow their heart's desires.
Tremendously Encouraging Book!.......2004-02-24
We're reminded that before the foundation of the world, God knew us and that He had a plan for us. Connecting with one's destiny is not deciding it, but discovering it. On the matter of hearing from God, he uses Psalm 37:4, "Delight yourself in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart." He says two things are found in this Scripture, 1) as I delight in the Lord He places desires within me and 2) He gives me the things desired.
On thinking the right thoughts, he notes, "...your life in many ways is a manifestation of what you think about yourself." His gift of communicating is found throughout the book. I like what he says about blessing, i.e., "I am a blessing going somewhere to happen."
Toward the end of the book he returns to the topic of desires. He teaches that God given desires are provided as a means of directing one in God's paths for the individual. Faith in God is absolutely necessary to fulfilling one's destiny. Focusing on God and His Word, rather than circumstances produces the results desired. The powerful, Scriptural teaching in this book will get you charged up to do, be, and achieve to the maximum! To God be the glory!
Practical and Inspiring..........1999-11-24
Generally when I read a book of this nature, I scan thru and pickout portions that peak my interest. Not with this book, this book is refreshing and pinpoint accurate. I really enjoyed destiny keys after each chapter and questions that stir-up your desire to see the destiny of God come to fruition in your life. This book is for every believer who desires to know the calling on there life. All you have to do is answer the questions honestly and you will see your vision of God unfold your destiny. DO YOU HAVE A CALLING ON YOUR LIFE? WELL, GET THIS BOOK!
"Everyone on the planet should read this book!".......1998-08-25
Pastor Casey does an excellent job of detailing a subject that stumps the best scholars. He handles the subject of "destiny" in a way that is very simple to understand. This book is life changing. This book should be mandatory reading for every high school freshman. (Some should read it before they get to high school.) Knowing and using these concepts can save people years of "searching, hoping and praying" for the right job to come along. It can save parents tution money. Students and parents can learn to identify gifts and callings which can save countless hours of aggravation over the wrong school, wrong major, etc. Grasping and applying the concepts in this book can literally change your life. As I have applied and started to teach these concepts to others, it's as if the "light bulb" has gone on for so many people. I would highly recommend this book and will continue to use it in ministry.
Life-changing book that helped me find my destiny.......1998-07-25
This is a powerful book that literally changed my life. If you are wondering what God's will is for your life, you will want to buy this book. Casey Treat clearly lays out the steps you can take to find your purpose in life. I highly recommend this book.

A must have for any wood artist.......2007-02-26
For years I have picked up driftwood on the beaches of the Pacific Northwest and had them in the garage until I saw Pat Bartlett's book. I had to meet her! I had to join the Pacific Northwest Wood Artisans in Port Angeles, WA. and take one of Pat's driftwood classes. Now my beach finds are beautiful sculptures all thanks to Pat's book.
I would recommend this book to any wood worker it is truly wonderful.

Driftwood sculpture.......2001-12-12
I found the book very interesting and informative. Patricia found the nack for holding your interest and movitating your inner self.
I wish she would have lead me to more resources dealing with the finishing and the location of show/events. Instead of where the buy tools. I need to know where the LuRon competitions are held and the how to contact them for there rules in order to finish my wood. This is totally new to my area and the web has not been much help. But the information contained in the book is exactly what I needed at the time.
I have to say she left me thirsty for more.
Awesome Informational Book!.......2001-08-07
I am a novice "Driftwooder". This book is packed with information and tons of inspiration! Patricia Bartlett, loves what she does. Her enthusiasum is infectious. She makes getting started a piece of cake. I feel as if I have a personnal instuctor. I take my book with me while shopping for tools and supplies...she makes setting up shop simple. I would personally like to thank Ms Bartlett for guiding me. Her spirit lives inside the book, it was truly written from her heart. A must buy for any "Driftwooder".

Book Description
The advancing age of Baby Boomers has generated an upsurge of older workers. And as this aging workforce encounters radical technological changes, it faces increasingly tumultuous work environments.
In Granny @ Work, Karen E. Riggs--a renowned expert on aging--shows how employers, software engineers, and public policy makers are thinking about the roles older adults might play in the workplace of the future--and asks whether those on the front lines of corporate life are actually looking out for the interests of a graying workforce. She also examines dominant beliefs about aging and technology as seen in popular culture, ranging from films like Cocoon and Space Cowboys to specialty websites and magazines aimed at older workers.
Granny @ Work is an impassioned comment on aging, work, and technology in American culture. As Riggs challenges popular assumptions with surprising research-for example, people over the age of 60 spend more time on the Internet than people of any other age group-and trenchant cultural critique, she forces us to confront the deeply entrenched ageism in today's technology-driven workplace.

Interesting information. Good points raised and important issues discussed.
Did I say the same thing three times? That's what I felt about this book. Points were well-taken, but picayune, unnecessary details were not left out.
You'll do your best just to skim.

Kids book.......2007-03-19
I wish my husband would have read the previous review before buying this book (at full price)four our 17 year old daughter who is considering a career as an adventure tour guide. This is for a grade school age child and does have some good basic information. Would be good for a career book report for a 3rd or 4th grader.
Good for a juvenile book about careers.......2004-06-05
It's a good book for KIDS interested in a very general look at non-traditional career opportunities. For an adult, however, it was a let-down to see just the basic info, mention of Outward Bound and NOLS as outdoor educators, the importance of guide certifications, etc. It's an intro to the field for juvenile readers, complete with a glossary in the back including terms like "conservationist" and "frostbite." Though it's not what I was looking for, it would be a good book for a kids' library.

Then this is the book you need. Straightforward, with exact addresses, phone numbers, hours of operation and admission info, it's a quick guide to visiting weird museums in each state plus a couple in Canada, like the one for the Dionne Quintuplets. Wanna visit the very first McDonald's in the U.S.? How about the Shoe Museum in Philadelphia? Or a museum on burlesque in California? Then check out this book.

Book Description
What does globalization mean for the television audience? Becoming a Global Audience examines concerns of cultural imperialism in relation to the actual experience of television reception in a postcolonial context. The rise of satellite television in India in the context of economic liberalization in 1991 has been marked by the localization of global music television networks like MTV and Channel V. This book argues, however, that this "Indianization" is no cause for celebration. Using in-depth interviews with Indian music television viewers and theoretical approaches drawn from political-economic, cultural, and postcolonial studies, it argues instead that the reception of "Top Ten" shows and nationalistic music videos is part of a profound reordering and appropriation of common sense under the changing social relations of globalization.

"This Product Sucks... buy mine instead!" Those aren't reviews, they're sophomoric and shameless plugs. I wonder how many of these people actually READ the book.
Ugh.........2004-03-28
The author of this book is well known in the hacker community.......for being a crook. Seriously, some of the stuff in this book is just beyond nonsense. Go read a more technical book, so you can learn alot more about "Hacking".
Hack this book.......2004-02-14
How sad that an author should feel compelled to try to sabotage this book. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
A "must-read" for anyone charged with computer security.......2004-01-12
Now in a completely revised and updated edition, Uberhacker II: More Ways To Break Into A Computer by Carolyn Meinel is a straightforward and "user friendly" guide which is filled with basic information that can be used to compromise security in computers - as well as protecting them against just such intrusions. Unapologetic in its explicit and meticulous deconstruction of the weaknesses in Unix, Linux, Windows, and other systems, Uber-hacker II is a profusely exampled and information-laden text which is a "must-read" for anyone charged with computer security in this volatile age of computer hackers and cyber thieves.
Terrible waste of paper..........2003-10-16
Carolyn P. Meinel is well known throughout the hacking community as a fraud, a wannabe and a charlatan. Anyone interested in hacking would be far better off picking up the most recent addition of "Hacking Exposed" or one of the many other excellent computer security and hacking books out there. With so many good books on the subject being published there is no valid reason for anyone to waste their hard earned money on garbage like Carolyn P. Meinel's books.
