Book Description
Sam Carson, a well-known architect from California, has been taking photos of young men in San Diego for many years now. He uses amateur models who have never posed for anyone before. He succeeds in an impressive way, to capture a personal moment. The viewer senses the intimate and suppressed openness which the young men reveal.

A Visual Treat.......2006-01-05
"A new small format, hardcover volume of photos from architect/photographer Sam Carson. Besides designing over 100 buildings, he has photographed over 5,000 models. Carson's look is warm and inviting, the facial expressions run the gamut from stares to smiles, but the models all look real. Shot largely indoors, at what one would presume to be Carson's home, the book is a visual treat. The men are either naked, in underwear or sexy workout pants--no shirts, lots of dick--and much of it hard.--Scott Cranin"--© zebraz
Sorry to be a spoil sport.......2005-07-31
Well, I ordered this book on the recommendation of everyone else who wrote reviews for it thinking it must be worth the price since everyone gave it 5 stars. Perhaps my expectations were too high then. I found the photographs in this book to be a bit amateurish. I find homoerotic photography appealing when the subjects show the essence of male attractiveness -- beauty, confidence, contentment and power. The only one of those that comes through in these photographs is beauty, and then only if you are into VERY young guys (think "Freshman" magazine)-- I'd guess average age is 18. The way the photographer has posed his subjects makes them reek of imaturity. Most look either uncomfortable before the camera or goofy. True, they've all got great bodies, but I prefer more mature subjects and more artfully composed compositions. A nice try, but there are many better than this.
DELIGHTFUL, DELICIOUS, DELOVELY.......2005-07-21
I said it all in the title....woof. This photographic collection is REAL EASY ON THE EYES.
Mouth-watering eye candy ... and great photography!.......2004-11-12
Man oh man! What a book! The young men are stunning, and the photography is superb. Whether you are a woman or a man, if you enjoy looking at beautiful, nude young men, this book is for you! And Amazon has it for a great price.
An excellent collection of gorgeous men.......2004-06-28
Sam Carson works as an architect in Los Angeles, which must have given him the penetrating eye for beauty that he shows here. That he can produce something this good on his first foray into photography is a rebuke to established gay eroticists (David Morgan, Jeff Palmer, Howard Roffman and Steven Underhill). For this book, Carson has selected a dazzling array of men who all have one thing in common: they are beautiful, muscular men who no one in their right mind would kick out of bed. There are a fair share of nudes in this collection, but what Carson demonstrates best is that designer underwear and tight Speedos can be every bit as hot as full frontal nudity, though once again, this book contains a good amount of penises. I hope Carson publishes another book soon, but until then these boys will have to do. The only flaw is that there are only 80 pages, but overall, this book proved to me that there's more to gay photography than Bel Ami.

Book Description
"This is an excellent book, well-written, thoughtful, and scholarly, in a field which has very few overviews accessible to non-specialists. It is definitely a contribution to the literature and will fill a large gap in existing materials, especially in its emphasis on farmworker issues in the Southeast United States."
Cynthia A. Wood, Associate Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies, Appalachian State University
Finding fresh fruits and vegetables is as easy as going to the grocery store for most Americanswhich makes it all too easy to forget that our food is cultivated, harvested, and packaged by farmworkers who labor for less pay, fewer benefits, and under more dangerous conditions than workers in almost any other sector of the U.S. economy. Seeking to end the public's ignorance and improve workers' living and working conditions, this book addresses the major factors that affect farmworkers' lives while offering practical strategies for action on farmworker issues.
The contributors to this book are all farmworker advocatesstudent and community activists and farmworkers themselves. Focusing on workers in the Southeast United States, a previously understudied region, they cover a range of issues, from labor organizing, to the rise of agribusiness, to current health, educational, and legal challenges faced by farmworkers. The authors blend coverage of each issue with practical suggestions for working with farmworkers and other advocates to achieve justice in our food system both regionally and nationally.

Where's the Magic?.......2002-07-16
I did enjoy this book, but as someone who loves the show for it's magical moments and the things that tug at your heart, it falls short. Some examples are that it does nothing to highlight Ally and John's special friendship. (How could they leave out the "Weirdest Person in the Room" comment in the guide for episode 202 "They eat horses, don't they?") Like-minded fans will know what I mean. Also, in the big episode after Billy and Ally kiss, when Billy says "I can't go another day without making love to you", the book ONLY says they plan to meet at her apartment, and then goes on to Ally's guilt hallucinations. It says NOTHING of the emotional scene at Ally's place where she tells Billy how she has imagined this moment a hundred times, and then "starts to cry." AND, the recap of my very favorite episode, "Angels and Blimps" (where Haley Joel Osment guests as the little boy with leukemia) was also fairly shallow. The book has a lot of great features, but it just didn't get me emotionally like watching the show did.
Excellent Guide!.......2001-07-07
This book offers an excellent guide to every lover of "Ally McBeal"; for those who adore this heartwarmingly, funny show-you're sure to love to curl up and remember all those great McBealistic moments!
Way behind!!!.......2000-09-25
I think that it is a great book, but it only covers the 2 first seasons. And I have been looking after a second edition, with updatet a season guide. But without any luck.
I only give it 3 stars because, it if a good book, with good design, characters, and all the other things a good book needs. But then 3th and now the 4th season is in the air, is the book worthless.
But I hope that there is coming a new edition. Because without that is the book just like a history book without the second world war, and all what's coming after that.
Not perfect, but still recommended.......2000-01-04
There seem to be a lot of rather negative reviews about this official guide, but I have to admit that I rather enjoyed it. In fact, for those of you out there who like the show but are not obsessed with it to the point of taping and scrutinising every episode, I would recommend it. Just by flipping through the pages, a lot of smiles and good memories from favourite episodes are brought back to the reader by all the text and pictures. My personal favourites out of the special features included in the guide, are: Ally's Passionometer, the ISMS, the interview with David E. Kelley and Elaine's Inventions. Of course this guide is not perfect. I have many of the same complaints as the other reviewers have already pointed out (especially the lack of a list of guest stars/cameo appearances), but all this aside, I recommend 'Ally McBeal: The Official Guide' because of all the pleasure you will receive when reading it. And I guarantee that you will find yourself returning to it over and over again.
Well Done.......1999-12-29
As a die-hard fan of all things McBeal, I enjoyed this book a great deal but thought that it did fall short in some places. It was a handy reference for the music heard on the show, but I have to agree with one of my fellow reviewers - where was a listing of guest stars? Overall, not bad (it is worth the money), but could have been a little better.

For any developer who wants to do more with XML and databases on Windows, Programming Microsoft SQL Server 2000 with XML provides an up-to-date guide to some current XML tools and features available on the Microsoft platform. This example-packed book can let you get more productive with the latest generation of SQL Server tools.
After a quick tour of what XML means for business today, whether in business to consumer (B2C), business to business (B2B), or business to enterprise (B2E) scenarios, this text jumps right in with a tutorial on using XML in Microsoft Transact-SQL (T-SQL) supported in SQL Server. The author provides nuts-and-bolts information on querying databases and returning XML, along with different options for formatting XML data.
Next comes a tutorial for using ActiveX Data Objects (ADO), the preferred standard for programming with databases in Windows, and how to use XML within this API. Short code excerpts will show you how to perform common programming tasks quickly. The support for XML in Microsoft doesn't stop there, of course, and the book next focuses in on support for Web publishing in SQL Server through XML. This powerful feature shows you how to define templates that can be used to query and update data via HTTP using URLs. Sections on mapping schemas show how XML can be used to move data between different database schemas. An important section on the T-SQL OpenXML function shows how to perform a range of database tasks, including inserting XML data in bulk into database tables.
In its closing sections, this text illustrates key technologies using a nicely functional online computer store complete with shopping basket, product catalog, and simulated order processing, all using XML techniques demonstrated earlier on.
In all, this book delivers a solid tour of what's available in SQL Server, ADO, and other Microsoft tools and technologies. Suitable for any Windows IT professional who works with databases, this title is a capable tutorial and guide to what's out there today with XML on the Microsoft platform. --Richard Dragan
Topics covered:
- Overview of today's XML for business used with Microsoft database technologies (integration with XML, B2B, B2C, and B2E scenarios)
- Transact-SQL (T-SQL) support for XML in SQL Server (SELECT FOR XML, RAW, AUTO, and EXPLICIT modes)
- ActiveX Data Objects (ADO) support for XML (XML query templates, executing XML queries)
- SQLOLEDB XML properties (including style sheets and managing the output format)
- Web publishing with SQL Server (SQL Server HTTP publishing overview, publishing a database, virtual directories and IIS, URL queries, plus style sheets and stored procedures)
- XML templates for retrieving data over the Web (templates and parameterized templates, style sheets, posting templates)
- XML mapping schemas (mapping schemas used with ADO and over HTTP, advanced notations)
- Using OpenXML for receiving and inserting XML documents (overflow data and edge tables)
- XML for SQL Server 2000 Web Release (using Updategrams to insert, query, update, and delete XML data)
- Case study for an online computer store using SQL Server and XML (including catalog and shopping basket management, connecting to BizTalk Server 2000)
- Appendix for a basic XML tutorial

good service.......2005-10-01
The book reached me in a near perfect condition and in right time.
Thanks guys!
A book for Beginner to Intermediate Level.......2003-11-05
This is a great book for a beginner of SQL Server 2000 and XML. Starts off from scratch and walks you thru every aspect of XML and building a complete XML enabled web pages.
This is a good book for any one that is looking to find over all information that can give glimpse into the features of SQL Server and be able to utilize to build XML-enabled data-pages.
Make sure you buy the 2nd Edition.......2002-11-21
Most of the reviews here seem to relate to the first edition (which was admittedly kind of short). The book has been updated, and the second edition covers new stuff like XSD Schemas, Diffgrams, SOAP Virtual Names, and all the other SQLXML 3.0 features. I found the book really useful, and easy to read. The examples are great and the concepts are all well explained. Definitely worth buying if you're planning to use SQL Server's XML functionality.
Good! And rapid........2001-10-21
I never expected so much useful information into such a small book. Good books don't sell by weight or page count.
I found this book concise and clear (this man knows how to teach). It sure doesn't explain everything about the subject, but it gives the big picture, with an impressive number of details too.
Ideal to start working in small time.
NOTE about who is this book for:
As title state, this book teaches how to use the XML features of SQL Server 2000, not how to use SQL2000, so if you don't know SQL Server you better read something else first.
From the XML XSL XPath X... side, this book is also for novices as it has a very good appendix that teaches all you need to understand the book.
Good and Practical.......2001-08-09
Although this book didn't go quite as in depth as I would have liked it to, it was well layed out and had a lot of practical examples. Everything in it was easy to follow and focused on making the technology work instead of delving into the techie jargon about the theory behind it. This book won't make you an expert, but will give you enough to be able to start plugging this stuff into your projects pretty quickly.
