Great Training Advice.......2007-09-06
I found the book to be an easy-to-read brochure that gets right to the point with clear, concise suggestions for training your dog.
Excellent!!.......2007-08-31
Don't let the size of this book turn you away - this book has all the information you need to greatly improve your relationship with your dog. I highly recommend this book to anyone that has a difficult dog, but people with obedient dogs can benefit as well.
This book was well written, short and to the point. I followed her advice and now my dogs listen to me and I no longer yell or pull on the leash!
How to be the Leader of the Pack..........2007-08-31
Very good condition and prompt delivery. I would definitely purchase from this seller again! Thank you very much
A must have for anyone with a dog.......2007-07-09
This book saved my relationship with my two "kids" - it is written in language that is very easy to understand and presents principles in a way that anyone can appreciate and practice. I believe that reading this book taught me how to live with and relate to my four legged family in a way that truly allows us to live together in a harmony that we had not known previously and cherish every day since. Highly recommended for anyone who has a canine companion, whether it is a new relationship or one that has gone on for a while but has become a strain for any member of the family.
Get Double Pleasure from this book!.......2007-06-13
I enjoyed this practical little booklet, but it is twice as useful and entertaining if you read it aloud and substitute the word "man" [or a man's name] for the word "dog" [or a dog's name]. I gave it to my sister when she adopted one of my foster dogs, and we had a jolly and educational time reading it "both ways". Anything by Patricia McConnell is a "must-read" for those of us who love interaction with our dogs!

Book Description
Beard & McKie are back. The author and the illustrator who created Sailing (a New York Times bestseller with 710,000 copies in print), as well as Golfing, Fishing, and other well-defined dictionaries--which together have over 2.3 million copies in print--now turn their unflinchingly funny eye to America's newest obsession, computing. For frustrated Web surfers, confused number crunchers, for the crazed the possessed, and the befuddled, it makes perfect fun of the machine we love to hate.
Computing covers it all, from hardware (any portion of a computer system that you can actually smack, thump, slam, punch, bash, whack, or clobber) to program ( a set of instructions for converting informational input into an emotional outburst). There are technical terms--Web browser (an Internet navigation program that gives computer users instant access to more than one billion advertisements); cultural phenomena--techie (a nerd with a Porsche); lingo--e-mail (a highly efficient method of wasting the countless working hours saved by the introduction of data-processing systems); and common words given new meaning in the computer age--instructions (a collection of Finnish proverbs with the words "User's Manual" printed on the cover).

his book on the hole explains the ones and twos of hacking\learnng the lingo "user friendly"
Book Description
This new edition of the hacker's own phenomenally successful lexicon includes more than 100 new entries and updates or revises 200 more. Historically and etymologically richer than its predecessor, it supplies additional background on existing entries and clarifies the murky origins of several important jargon terms (overturning a few long-standing folk etymologies) while still retaining its high giggle value.
. . . .
SAMPLE DEFINITION:
:hacker: n. [originally, someone who makes furniture with an axe] 1. A person who enjoys exploring the details of programmable systems and how to stretch their capabilities, as opposed to most users, who prefer to learn only the minimum necessary. 2. One who programs enthusiastically (even obsessively) or who enjoys programming rather than just theorizing about programming. 3. A person capable of appreciating {hack value}. 4. A person who is good at programming quickly. 5. An expert at a particular program, or one who frequently does work using it or on it; as in `a UNIX hacker'. (Definitions 1 through 5 are correlated, and people who fit them congregate.) 6. An expert or enthusiast of any kind. One might be an astronomy hacker, for example. 7. One who enjoys the intellectual challenge of creatively overcoming or circumventing limitations. 8. [deprecated] A malicious meddler who tries to discover sensitive information by poking around. Hence `password hacker', `network hacker'. The correct term is {cracker}.
The term `hacker' also tends to connote membership in the global community defined by the net (see {network, the} and {Internet address}). It also implies that the person described is seen to subscribe to some version of the hacker ethic (see {hacker ethic, the}).
It is better to be described as a hacker by others than to describe oneself that way. Hackers consider themselves something of an elite (a meritocracy based on ability), though one to which new members are gladly welcome. There is thus a certain ego satisfaction to be had in identifying yourself as a hacker (but if you claim to be one and are not, you'll quickly be labeled {bogus}). See also {wannabee}.

Elegant, Canonical Good Thing.......2007-06-02
I originally bought this book in its first edition, and only stopped reading it when I looked up and saw it was 3:00 AM. (I'd gotten to the T's, I think.)
This book, and the jargon file from whence it originated, is a slice of software history and sociology. If you don't have a background in software development, or Unix/VAX experience, much of the book will be uninteresting. And I think it's definitely a Bad Thing to evaluate this book as a dictionary - That's not a bug, it's a feature!
But if you did live through those thrilling days of yesteryear...or have slogged through the Dragon book in a compiler course as a computer science major...or are a serious software developer...this book is NP-complete with Good Things.
I am disappointed to see the removal of some older terms like IBM discount, branch to Fishkill, and Great Gray Wall, but I guess that's the price of what passes for progress. At least the online versions have a change log, so one can look up older entries, and the should-be-immortal scratch monkey is still present.
For the right people...I highly recommend this book. For others, it may just be a pleasant diversion, but buy it anyway.
Understand Your Fellow Hackers.......2003-10-27
"The New Hacker's Dictionary" is not an ordinary dictionary.Instead of a regular English dictionary, you get one that is the hacker's dream: a dictionary full of terms used by hackers all over the globe. Then you can really talk with your fellow geeks.
The dictionary is compiled by Eric S. Raymond, a well-known hacker, who is author of the popular book about open source, "The Cathedral and the Bazaar". He knows the hacker culture well, and that makes him a good compiler. The third edition of the dictionary adds more than 100 new entries to the already rich list. Among my favourite entries are "larval stage", "scrozzle", and "wave a dead chicken".
Other than the dictionary itself, this book contains two essays, "Confessions of a Happy Hacker" by Guy Steele and "Hacker in a Strange Land" by Eric Raymond, as well as a not-so-short introduction to hacker speech, hacker jargon, and the hacker file in particular. There are three appendices. The first contains some funny stories about hacking in various situations. The second tries to portrait "J. Random Hacker", the most typical hacker. And the last is a short article of how one can help the hacker culture grow.
If you have interacted with other hackers (in Usenet, RL (Real Life), or in other hacker-populated places in the universe), you may have found yourself unable to understand some terms. With "The New Hacker's Dictionary" you can learn all these useful, strange, or simply funny words and thereby become a full-fledged hacker.
A Slice Of Hacker History Hidden Inside A Dictionary.......2003-06-19
This isn't a dictionary, it's a thousand slices of hacker history, folklore, and culture aranged in alphabetical order. I've kept this book by my desk for the past decade and I still turn to it for a refreshing mind-spritz when the code is starting to look blurry...
A must-have for wanabees and the curious alike.......2002-12-24
This is one of my favorites: both informative and highly entertaining (perhaps more the latter).
Although the jargon file (from which the bulk of this book's content is taken) is freely available online, the forewords by GLS and ESR are interesting to read, and the Crunchly cartoons are real gems. Besides, it's nice to have the File in book form, especially when not at a computer.
Worth having.......2002-08-13
I would normally not consider buying something named "The New Hacker's Dictionary", as the first thing that comes to mind is "drivel for the stupid masses". However, I must say that I was wrong. The "dictionary" is actually by an author who is obviously familiar with the computing days of old - the definitions aren't idiotic new-age garbage, but rather words that most "hackers"/"computer nerds" will recognize - while the regular folk will not. The book doesn't discuss words like "click", "webpage" and any other "popular" computing terms - instead it's words like "foobar", "warez d00dz", "flipflop", etc...
If you're at all interested in classic computing culture, this book is something I feel every computer nerd should have (you fit the description if, among other things, you like monty python and your idea of the perfect evening is spending it at home programming, with occasional breaks to watch the X-Files).
If you're a soccermom, or a script/warez kiddie, this book is not for you. You probably won't understand it, and will certainly not appreciate it.

A treat to any Cure fan............2003-06-21
Ever since I became a Cure fan I had always wondered if Robert or any of the other band members had a biography, marking the major turning points of their musical careers.... And I guess that my question has been answered ever since I first heard about this crucial book. It lives up to what everyone has said about it, and I just got it yesterday from my friend Ben actually!(Thanks again! You're a sweetie!!)
What can I really say that hasn't been said already? It starts out in the late 70's, the original band members were in the middle of high school and already showing major signs of music excellence. Robert showed obvious signs of his intrest in music around his 10th grade year, and this book clearly highlights his journey to the top. I personally think it's quite intresting to read about their rise to fame and the obstacles they had to encounter along the way. I don't want to give out any spoilers so you all will just have to find out of yourselves the stories in here (oh yeah, there's a hilarious one that concerns Lol and Billy Idol... I almost fell over laughing!!)
This treasure is full of surprises and just about anything else you won't expect to hear. And, lets not forget the oh so needed eye candy!! It's practically exploding with tons of rare, great pictures... Color and black and white. The cute as hell baby pictures are a perfect ending. I especially love the color on the cover. Just because it says it's "paper-back" does not mean that it's not durable or good-looking. First time I saw it I thought it was a hard back because the front is glossy.
The pages are made out of nice quality paper and it's really thick, so you'll have hours to spend reading it. It's a fairly large book as well, I'd say around the size of a good-sized magazine (the width being roughly 8 1/2 in. and the length being 11 in.). This book is generally hard to come across(if not impossible), so I highly urge any Cure fan who is considering on buying this to second-guess no more.
You WILL NOT find any and I mean ANY other Cure book that will be more on the mark than this one. Take it from me and millions of Cure fans alike, this book will easily become one of your most valued possesions. Also, it's important to note that this is the only site on the 'net where I've seen this book for sale (new and used).
I've tried bidding before and no matter what, I was always outbidded by like, 12 other people so just save yourself some time and not to mention money and buy this now! I wish that I would've done that a long time ago. I promise you won't be disappointed in the least!
What an Amusing Band!!!!!.......2002-03-20
I have been a cure fan for as long as I remember and own several cure books, but I must say this is my very favorite, one of the most interesting I have ever read on this band."Ten Imaginary years" takes you on a journey from the very begining of the band (it even mentions how Smith and Tolhurst meet) and ends around the late 1980's when the cure play in Orange, France.
Members of the band talk about their experiences with being in the world of music, their musical inspirations, life on the road, bad managment, fights, bar hopping, drinking binges (hilarious!!!), making of their videos, family life and the very unusual characters and situations they have been in along the way.
This was one of my first cure books , so I absolutely recomend it to the new cure fan and for the old cure fan, its a must have. It has great pictures (including childhood pictures form all members!!), a discography at the end of the book and lots of information about the members I had no idea about. Most important of all this book is extremely humorous. This book is the real thing, it revelas all unapologetically. You will love it!!!!!
A must for any Cure fan!.......1999-02-23
This book is not just a The Cure fan's book, it just a great book. In depth from cover to cover with every thing from school times to kiss me kiss me kiss me. In a few words: Lovable, interesting, and just wonderful.
wonderfully done a must for any cure fan.......1999-01-06
writen as well as the music, in depth from early school days to 1989. beutiful pictures not just for a cure fan but for anyone wants to read about interesting people.
The semi-autobiography for The Cure's first ten years.......1998-08-06
This book is the "definitive version" of the first ten years of the band we all know and love, The Cure. It takes us from Robert's early school days to the height of 1986, without leaving anyone behind. By far, the best biography to date, but another is in the works.

Biased and Irrelevant.......2007-07-31
Peter Laufer's bias is obvious even in the first few pages of the book. What he offers isn't a balanced view of talk radio, but rather 360 pages of blather. The book was also published back in 1995, which is a lifetime ago in terms of talk radio's evolution. I would have hoped for a more objective view of talk radio, and was disappointed with this book.
Book Description
A hands-on guide to planning, designing, installing and configuring wireless LANs that prepares students for the Certified Wireless Network Administrator (CWNA) certification. This second edition offers in-depth coverage of wireless networks with extensive step-by-step coverage of IEEE 802.11b/a/g/pre-n implementation, design, security, and troubleshooting. Material is reinforced with hands-on projects at the end of each chapter from two of the principal wireless LAN vendors, Cisco and Linksys, giving the flexibility for this course to be taught in either a classroom or as an online course.
Customer Reviews:
Wireless Metwork textbook.......2007-02-19
As usual in text books, there is a lot of useless information that is not necessary, but since writers are paid by the word, this is to be expected.
Book Description
Endorsed by the Wireless LAN Association, this comprehensive study guide offers complete coverage of all objectives for CWNA 2.0 exam PW-100. Inside, you’ll find 150+ practice exam questions with complete answers, step-by-step exercises, chapter self-tests, margin notes, and much more to help you prepare for this challenging exam.
Customer Reviews:
Good starter.......2007-08-23
This is a good starter if you are not familiar with the world of Wireless. It explains how radio waves work, how different objects can interfere with the radio wave, and how to setup your network. It explains the OSI model and it is written in an easy to read manner. I read the book and was able to pass the certification.
False advertising........2007-07-20
This "Official" study guide claims in the blue star in the upper right corner of the front cover "Complete Coverage of the Exam Objectives". In side the book, the LIMITED WARANTY states that the "study guide is believed to be reliable, BUT CANNOT BE GUARANTEED TO BE CORRECT OR COMPLETE". Is that double talk or what?
I am here to tell you folks that the latter is true, and not the former. Having taken the test, I can honestly tell you that there were certain topics, terms, and phrases mentioned in the test questions that were NOT FOUND anywhere in the entire book. The test's usage agreement prohibits me from mentioning here what those subjects were. Despite the false and misleading advertising on the front cover, this book is the most comprehensive book of the subject found between 2 covers that I am aware of (with the possible exception of the 4th edition which I have not read). That said, I feel that I need to warn you of the following things.
1. If you buy this book, be sure that you download the book's errata sheet from the CWNP web site and make the corrections in the book.
2. The test objectives discussed in the book differ somewhat from those shown on the CWNP web site. Those small differences can make a big difference on the test.
3. I found the chapters on network security, network architecture, organizations and standards, and spread spectrum technologies to be somewhat confusing, and incomplete in the manner the material was presented.
You will do well to supplement your studies of this book with other material, particularly the subjects mentioned previously.
Not a complete study guide for the PW0-100 exam.......2007-02-21
I liked this book but as the CWNA study guide it falls short of expectations. The PoE coverage was almost entirely lacking and there were many other areas that did not fully cover the exam question areas. I wrote CWNP and received a lame excuse as to why it was not complete and to disregard the claim printed on the cover that it provided "Complete coverage of the CWNA exam objectives". They said the exam has gone through considerable changes since the book's publication and thus does not match in many areas anymore. I suggested an on-line suppliment to cover the changes and they said that was not necessary, I should research the changes myself. As the exam study guide it deserves 2 stars, as a general guide to wireless networking it deserves at least 3 or 4 though obviously it is getting dated.
CWNA Certified Wireless Network Administrator Official Study Guide (Exam PW0-100), Third Edition (Planet3 Wireless).......2007-01-10
CWNA is a newish International Certification in ICT. I have been working with International Certification in ICT for a long time, and I have read many books.
This book cuts to the chase succinctly and very well. In a reasonably newish field (Wireless Networking), I have yet to find a publication as well organised as this one.
The book is useful for many things -- a reference, a text book or a study book. A great effort, and I hope there will be more to come
Only book you need to pass CWNA test.......2006-09-22
This is the one of the best technical books I've read. Clear and detailed explanations, easy to read, 'not dry' - it gives you what you need to pass CWNA and more. You will return to this book every now and then in need for good explanation of wireless foundation (RF math, surveying, security, standards...). When studying, I ALWAYS use Internet as an aid in preparing for exams, and I did this time, too. It helps to read another author's lines to deepen your knowledge, or just to find another examples of the subject. Don't get me wrong: this book really IS your only study guide, but it is worth to take few steps more to be sure you do well on the test (after all, it's your money). It is important to visit CWNP's web page at www.cwnp.com for current errata. I used this book as preparation for CWNA exam and passed it with over 90%. But don't think CWNA is easy: prepare well, pay attention to details (!), be sure you REALLY understand what your are reading, take your time to prepare, and good luck!
