relaxing.......2007-03-27
I found this book to be just what I needed it to be. Feeling trapped and depressed it bought me back to life and made me realize I am the one in control of my happiness and in how others treat me and in who I allow in my life. Once again I have to hand it to Sylvia, just the fact that positive things are happening to me now, proves to me whatever powers she possesses, she has the power to make me feel good about myself.!!! Isn't that the most important thing in life? Highly recommended reading
Never too many lessons for life?.......2007-01-10
My daughter in law mentioned this book in 2005 to me mentioning how much she would love it, no she is not subtle. So I bought it for myself. It was quite good but not bragging I am beyond alot of what was in the book. But I did give it 4 stars because I bought it this year and sent it to her and my son and hopefully they will learn something out of it. So far don't think so since they are ruder and even more unapreciative than before. Sylvia is excellent and I have many other of her books.
waste of time.......2006-07-31
I think when Silvia first started writing she was good but I'm sorry her last few books including this one are sarcastic and weak. The depth is not there and the joke cracking is out of line. I learned nothing here like I did in her earlier books Waste of money.
Good but not great..........2006-07-17
I believe you are referring to Deu 18:10 - 12. I make more typos than most..lol. Anyway, this chapter is addressing the Levites (Tribe of Levi) only. We should not pick and choose phrases and use them out of context.
Also, if you really want to understand the "Old Testament", read some good research books from the Jewish Publication Society or the Jewish Lights Publishers.
Her books are good, not great. Nothing new inside but it is a good way to bring Gnosticism and Spiritism to lay people. Allan Kardec stated most of what is contained in her books in his works.
This particular little book is good mainly for the CDRom.
Let Go of pains and move forward.......2006-05-27
This is yet another self help book and yet another Sylvia Browne book and together is it one of the best books I have ever read. Sylvias gift comes through in her writings and she gives you step by step weekly instructions on helping and healing yourself

Book Description
i The Economic Geography of the Tourist Industry /i examines whether tourism can be defined as an industry. Bridging the gap between tourism research and economic geography, the authors by bring together leading academics in geography, planning and tourism, to explain tourism's definitions. Providing detailed analyses of key sectors, such as tour operators, airlines and the hotel industry from a broad international perspective, and backed by a broad range of international studies, the book also explores issues such as business cycles, labor dynamics, entrepreneurship and the role of the state in tourism and concludes that the production of tourism-related services has characteristics commonly associated with "harder" production sectors, such manufacturing and producer services.

Wonderful!.......2002-09-08
This book is simply amazing, and it is all thanks to the British "Wonder Professor," Dr. Debbage. I've read this book again and again, and I love it even more with every read! Dr. Debbage is the single greatest thing to come along in the Geography world since the map.

This is an entertaining book told from the perspective of Jacob, a young cat, about his life with his human throughout one year. The illustrations are adorable, and the writing is clever. My sister and I enjoyed it when we were young, and now my young children enjoy it too. Highly recommended for cat lovers of all ages!

Book Description
Jimi Hendrix began musical life on the “chitlin’ circuit” in the mid-1960s, where he developed a fluid, funky guitar style, backing the likes of the Isley Brothers on the road. In 1966 Chas Chandler, formerly of The Animals, discovered him playing in Greenwich Village and shrewdly persuaded him to relaunch his career in London, from whence he could be manufactured as a pop-rock sensation and then sold back to America. The plan worked. He enjoyed instant success with hits like “Hey, Joe” and “Purple Haze.” His band, which included British rhythm section Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell, was promoted as the Jimi Hendrix Experience, cutting three albums in quick succession in 1967 and 1968. Part of the successful series that includes Rolling Stones, U2, The Doors, and others in the strong-selling and well-established Stories Behind the Songs series, Voodoo Child includes a complete discography, 90 photographs, as well as a discussion of all of Hendrix’s live albums. Jimi Hendrix is very probably the greatest solo rock artist of all time and thirty-seven years after his death, he remains a best-seller. Certainly, if anyone personified the genre in its purest, most potent and inflammatory form, it was Hendrix.
Customer Reviews:
Very Interesting, Plenty of Information, and a Good Read!.......2004-05-08
I am a huge fan of Jimi Hendrix. I listen to his music every day, and it never gets old. I've listened to all of the essential albums (and many more) but have never actually read any book on him and his music. I saw this book in the music part of the book store. I quickly looked through the pages, and was very intrigued, since I'd never heard where he got his inspiration from. And I must say this book will intrigue you as well. It really fills in the gaps on some of Jimi's songs, such as on Castles Made of Sand. I didn't know that the first verse was about Jimi's mom and dad fighting and eventually splitting up. Or the second verse was about his troubled brother Leon. And the third verse was about Jimi's mom dying. These interesting facts and more are in this book. If you own a lot of Jimi Hendrix CDs out there, and you're asking yourself: How did he do that? Where did he get that idea for a song? or Who is that song about? Then buy this book. It's a very informative and an interesting read.
I Was Hoping For More.......2004-01-24
My 3 star rating isn't really a put-down. 3.5 is probably more accurate. The overall content and presentation are fine and there's alot of useful information in here. My problem with it is that I'd hoped to read a bunch of stuff I'd never seen elsewhere. But in fact, I didn't find much of anything that I hadn't already read elsewhere. Of the stuff that is here, some isn't even as detailed as you'll find in other books like Setting The Record Straight or Shadwick's Musician.

Book Description
A collection of illustrated essays on and by some of the most highly acclaimed figures in the global underground today. Customer Reviews:
Overly long, but still worth your time........2002-09-26
Jack Sargent, ed., Suture: The Arts Journal, vol. I (Creation, 1998)
One thinks, given that there hasn't been a second issue of the trade-paperback sized Suture in the ensuing four years since its publication, that they could have both come out with a vol. II and solved the main problem with vol. I in the same way; cut the length in half. There is much to be discovered here, but it can be overwhelming at times.
When most people think of what we consider underground art today, the names that come to mind are Andy Warhol, Elias Merhige, maybe for those a little more in the know Masami Akita or Kenneth Anger. A select few are aware of how much farther the artistic underground goes, and Jack Sargent takes on the role of tourguide in this book/magazine though some of the basics, running the gamut from music (Lydia Lunch) to film (Mark Hejnar) to art (Trevor Brown) to photography (Romain Slocombe) and just about everything in between. Profiles and interviews of some of the biggest names in underground art, people who have been working at their chosen professions for years without ever achieving the popular success that should have gone along with the critical acclaim they have continued to pile up over the years. In general, the articles therein start with a quick profile and then go into an in-depth interview with the subject (most of the interviews were conducted by Sargent himself, but a few others were conscripted as well). Most everything here is good, solid stuff, and the words and images presented would most likely succeed in getting the uninitiated intrigued by a subject here to go seeking out more about any particular artist. Two hundred pages, though, is just too much to take all in one bite. If you pick this up-and if you have any interest at all in the stuff going on today that's more exciting than anything in the mainstream, you should-be prepared to take this at a most leisurely pace.
Romain Slocombe makes it worth it........2001-01-25
This book is a collection of interviews of prominent figures in the global underground art culture. Some of these include Lydia Lunch and Mark Hejnar. The interview that makes this book stand out, however is French filmmaker and photographer Romain Slocombe. His 1993 photobook Broken Dolls (Kowasareta Ningyo) is one of the seminal works in the fetish photography genre of braces and bandages. The interview features several selections from his works, as well as discussions of his films and performance art. Overall, the book is interesting, but a little tedious.
In one word ---> WOW!.......2000-07-30
Hey Lydia Lunch freaks and fans Are the names Queerdonna and Ingrid Casares as familiar to you as your own! This is Lydia Lunch at the height of her power, a chronicle of conflicts, abuse, strife, hatred. misery and obsession. As Hancunt says in the introduction: "... the need to document my personal insanity is an affliction I haven't yet cured myself of ... well, that and my inability to memorize all of the moves to the dance Madonna does in the "Lucky Star" video.... Read it and weep." Includes the play "South Of Your Border", lovely pics of Lydia and lots of humorous illustrations by Kristian Hoffman. Definitely not for sensitive readers, since there's a lot that will offend here, but people who like Georges Bataille will love this book. If you've ever had a hankering to own a black patent leather outfit like the one Lunch wears in the "Hybrid of Nature" video, then this book is definitely for you! It is the ultimate bible for Lydia Lunch lovers everywhere. I got my copy for Christmas about 7 months ago, and I still can't get enough of it. No matter how trivial, this book has all the information you've been seeking regarding the Great One. Hancunt is a humorous, knowledgeable writer whose collection of Lunchabilia is enough to make you drool with envy if you are a true fan. Five stars and more go out to this wonderful work. Bravo Maren!
Nice book about weird people........1999-09-14
This is really a wonderful book with some very nice artist profiles and interviews (one of which mentions me). Joe Coleman gives a very good account of his Hatfields/McCoys painting, Lydia Lunch expounds on her theories of pornography and, of course, Dame Darcy discourses on all manner of oddities, all of them outlandishly true. Get this book, it will look good on your coffee table.
Customer Reviews:
Delightful.......2005-06-21
This book is a joy-containing not only the facts about the Medieval herbs and plants-but also charming references to the amazing character of Cadfael.
Don't be put off by negative comments-this book's a gem.
Cadfael's pictures.......2002-04-04
This is most useful as a guide to Elis Peters' novels. The index of plants is oriented toward the fictional Cadfael and his uses, rather than to mediaval practice.
The pictures are coffee table book quality.
A must for gardeners who are Brother Cadfael fans, or Cadfael fans who are gardeners, but not a serious work.
Medieval Plants and Brother Cadfael.......2000-08-17
Not only is this gorgeous books with excellent pictures of plants, it shows a deep insight into Brother Cadfael's herbarium and his respect for plants. I loved the excerpts from the many Brother Cadfael books. I would have liked to have seen a bit more on the layout of Brother Cadfael's garden and perhaps some recipes and potions. Still the authors produced a beautiful book at a reasonable price with the pages crammed with in-depth information on herbs.
Misleading Title.......1999-08-26
I believe that this book is much more of a picture book than anything else. Within the text, it describes Brother Cadfeal more than it does his gardens or how he planned them or used them. This book is nicely done but it is not worth the price if you are looking for a comprehensive reference for how to grow and use herbs. Please look somewhere else. There are many out there which hold better information.
It is a wonderful and informitive book on herbs........1999-03-08
This book was very informitive on the uses of herbs for medicines in the Middle Ages. I happen to be a fan of Cadfael and thought the pictures were wonderful. I had been doing a project on medical herbs in the Middle Ages and it was my best resource.

Customer Reviews:
I would like to see this book updated.......2005-04-26
Great book but needs to be updated.
While it's still a nice introduction, it has become dated.......2003-04-27
This 2nd edition of Cockroft's classic on Sun Performance Tuning was a step up from the somewhat meager meal served in its 1st edition.
At the time of its writing this book filled a void, since there was not much "out there" covering performance tuning in general as well as for Sun boxes in particular.
Mike Loukides' "System Performance Tuning" still hung around in its 1st edition, and thus had established itself somewhat as the grand-daddy of UNIX performance tuning books, but was already pretty outdated. It's 2nd edition was still years away.
While Adrian Cockroft's "Sun Performance and Tuning" today still provides some interesting insights, and therefore could be a welcome addition to a Sun system administrator's bookshelf, there's another book which should be considered first: "Resource Management" from the Sun BluePrints series, which he wrote in collaboration with Richard Mc Dougall, and various others.
only if you're just starting out.......2001-10-25
After reading the other reviews I had high hopes for this book. The book is not geared to people that already have basic sysadmin skills. And in one case the book makes a rather dubious statement. They list a few ndd parameters and state "The other values should never be changed on a production system." Well, they left out tcp_ip_abort_cinterval. And they don't mention tcp_ip_abort_linterval at all which so far seems to be an undocumented Sun Microsystems parameter. A book about tuning should cover all the tunable parameters and explain cause/effect. Simply stating that you never change the other parameters without explaining why isn't why you buy a book on Performance and Tuning.
If you're just starting out with Sun administration and do not know a lot of the unix commands to administer and monitor a Solaris box this book will help. The book does cover much of the basics and background that someone starting out needs. The book does leave out a number of higher level concepts and doesn't cover all tunable parameters so it doesn't really help much beyond already available text/webpages which you'll still have to research and scour to really learn the whole story on Solaris performance and tuning. But if you already know some of what you're doing you're money is better kept in your pocket.
Indispensible.......2001-08-26
The first 5 pages alone helped me to tune my systems, setup cachefs, etc. Definitely worth the money if you are responsible for the care and feeding of Solaris boxes.
Best book on SUN Performance...so far.......2000-06-20
There is no question that if you are involved in performance related issues on the SUN Sparc platform, you have to buy this book. It gives you invaluable information and helps you determine what is actually happening on a given system. Having said that, I wish it was better written and organized. This book is intended, I feel, for the intermediate to advanced systems administrator.
