5 out of 5 stars Pleasingly Nasty.......2003-05-23

This collection of erotically charged short stories will satisfy just about any reader of gay erotica. The situations are fun, the action ABUNDANT (just like the orgasms throughtout the book), and most assuredly is a book which will be a "one-hander". ENJOY!

3 out of 5 stars Not the greatest.......2003-05-05

A few of the stories really got me hot, the one with the firemen being the most erotic thing I have read in a while. The rest of the book is kinda generic one handed reading. Not too bad but not great either...

5 out of 5 stars awesome one handed reading.......2002-11-27

Awesome stories that are as interesting as they are hot. And I mean hot. This book should come with its own towel.

          Book Description

Aristocratic Experience and the Origins of Modern Culture explores a crucial moment in the history of European selfhood. During the seventeenth century, French nobles began to understand their lives in terms of personal histories and inner qualities, rather than as the products of tradition and inheritance. This preoccupation with the self accompanied a critical view of society, monarchy, and Christian teachings. It also shaped a new understanding of political realities and personal relations.
Drawing from a combination of memoirs, literary works, and archival sources, Jonathan Dewald offers a new understanding of aristocratic sensibilities. In detailed fashion, he explores the nobles' experience of war, career, money, family, love, and friendship. In all of these areas, nobles felt a gap between social expectations and personal needs; in the seventeenth century this tension became increasingly oppressive. Modern French culture, Dewald argues, emerged from this conflict between tradition and the individual's inner life.

                Book Description

The seventeenth century has always been seen as important for the development of the modern English state. Over the past twenty years, however, this view has been criticized heavily and no general account of the development of the state in this period has yet emerged. On the basis of a wide-ranging synthesis of specialist work in diverse fields of English, British and colonial history, this book makes a novel argument about the modernization of the seventeenth-century English state, and of the role of class and gender interests in its development.

                Download Description

This book examines the development of the English state during the long seventeenth century, emphasising the impersonal forces which shape the uses of political power, rather than the purposeful actions of individuals or groups. It is a study of state formation rather than of state building. The author's approach does not however rule out the possibility of discerning patterns in the development of the state, and a coherent account emerges which offers some new answers to relatively well-established questions. In particular, it is argued that the development of the state in this period was shaped in important ways by social interests - particularly those of class, gender and age. It is also argued that this period saw significant changes in the form and functioning of the state which were, in some sense, modernising. The book therefore offers a narrative of the development of the state in the aftermath of revisionism.

                    Book Description

The service supervisor's job is a key one in the restaurant business because a large part of the guest's dining experience and satisfaction is derived from the interpersonal contact between guest and staff. If this contact is not satisfactory, all the care and investment in decor, food selection, and preparation are for naught. The service supervisor must see to it that courteous and efficient service is provided at all times. Professional Dining Room Management, Second Edition, discusses the management side of running a restaurant. Written specifically for the dining room supervisor who oversees the service staff of the restaurant, this useful guide outlines the four skills the effective dining room manager needs: The book carefully details types of dining room service, including French, Russian, American, and buffet service. It explains quality service standards, and identifies possible breakdowns of service—poor seating, shortage of ware, poor communication with the kitchen, accidents. A valuable chapter on responsible beverage service provides guidelines for dealing with the problem of intoxicated guests. Service managers will learn all aspects of successful dining room operation: inspecting the dining room, assigning stations, seating guests, controlling breakage and linen costs, supervising the staff, and training and hiring new employees. An example of one restaurant's employee handbook will help supervisors create their own handbooks. Helpful instructions for effectively communicating with guests, serving disabled guests, and handling complaints will benefit the entire service staff. A bibliography listing publications, training materials, and training programs helps make this book an important reference guide.

                    Book Description

Are you cheap? Are you unskilled? Are you mediocre? Bob Holt is.

In Views From the Cheap Seats: Lifestyles of the Unskilled and Mediocre, he relates his views on the concerns of middle class workers who are forced to live on a budget, and opinions which many people may be unable to express. Many of you may be in agreement with Bob, unless your company offers a health plan with sufficient coverage for sedation.

Bob is currently living in his leftover underground Y2K bunker in Mantua, New Jersey. When he decides to emerge from his headquarters, he is constantly faced with true-to-life adventures like traveling eleven miles back and forth to work and causing a gas crisis, driving from Neptune to New Egypt while remaining in New Jersey, and training for the Olympics while overcoming obstacles such as caffeine addiction and a lack of talent.

Bob also reflects on the true meaning of Christmas (for 45 seconds before the mall opens), discusses the virtues of better living through Powerball, and relates the finer points of Southern New Jersey, which do not include E-Z Pass. But they do include a hermit crab beauty pageant.

Bob Holt is a good medicine for the soul. I have laughed until I cried reading this work of art. I definately reccommend this book to anyone and everyone. Buy it if you're blind or can't read for whatever reason, get someone to read it to you. If they are able to read aloud w/o cracking up. ;)

This book is warped, hysterical and fresh. The man is a credit to the humor genre.

What you really need to know is where the Mustard Museum is (answer: Mount Horeb, Wisconsin--displaying some 1,700 kinds of mustard) or the Museum of Questionable Medical Devices (downtown Minneapolis). Thanks to the research of Lynne Arany and Archie Hobson, the country's bizarre and obscure museums--including the Barbie Hall of Fame and the Goodyear World of Rubber collections--are collected in one magnificent, if somewhat strange, volume. It canvasses the back roads and major highways of the U.S., is organized alphabetically by state, and includes an index by category as well as an index to virtual museum Web sites. Useful for the traveler who wants an alternative to the main drag or seeks destination inspiration, Little Museums provides good perusal fodder and armchair travel as well. --Stephanie Gold

                        Book Description

The definitive guide to the most interesting, amusing, and surprising collections in America.

With listings that leave no source unexplored, this clever directory is the first in-depth popular guide to more than 1,000 small museums. Its listing of archives ranging from the utterly informal to the most diligently organized, labeled, and catalogued, from displays of celebrity shoes to the work of visionary artists, provides a picture of the American landscape that is rich in quirky details.

In Little Museums, you will find the listings that tourist literature does not provide, including the Barbie Hall of Fame in Palo Alto, California, the Dog Mushing Museum in Fairbanks, Alaska; the Museum of Ordinary People in Hurtsboro, Alabama; the 24Hour Church of Elvis in Portland, Arizona; and the last freak show left in America--at Coney Island's Sideshows by the Seashore. A virtual museums listing means you don't even have to leave home to visit a little museum, and a category index makes finding museums devoted to your favorite subjects even easier. Little Museums is for anyone who hates to miss a unique opportunity along the byways and urban centers of America.

Small museums don't last forever. So this book is getting a little out of date - however - this is a good book still. I have read it twice and still use it as a resource. I hope the author makes a new edition. If you like visiting small museums and stuff - get the book.

5 out of 5 stars Cool resource for road-tripping in the U.S.!.......2001-09-30

If you enjoy discovering unusual places when you travel or you just have strange interests, then you'll appreciate this book. It's a state-by-state listing of small museums covering nearly every kind of human endeavor, including The Louis H. Sullivan Architectural Collection, The Julia C. Bullette Red Light Museum, The New Orleans Historic Voodoo Museum, The Museum of Neon Art, The Titan Missile Museum, The Louis P. Klein Broom and Brush Museum, Barney Smith's Toilet Seat Art Museum, and hundreds more.

If you don't feel like driving that far, you'll be amazed at some of the unusual museums that might be in your very own neighborhood... as I was, when I discovered that there's a Cockroach Hall of Fame just a mile away from where I live.

Each museum entry includes a decription with the address, phone, directions, opening hours, and price. Phones and pricing may not be entirely up-to-date, but it's a place to start.

5 out of 5 stars A great addition to any road trip!.......2001-09-24

This is a great book to take with you as you travel. Even if do not take it with you, this is certainly the book you want to refer as you plan your trip.

There are a slew of museums that sound like they would be interesting to visit. There are many museums that I have visited that were interesting.

For many years, as my husband and I have traveled, we have tried to find the small museums in each of the towns we visited. We have learned that almost every town we visit has a small museum. Unfortunately, many of these museums are not worth the time and effort. This book seems to have the cream of the crop. We know if it's listed in this book, we make the effort to see it.

A great resource for traveling on the road. Visiting small museums (and large) is an easy way to add planned breaks to your driving, stretch your legs, learn about your country, and more. This book can only enhance any trip you take.

3 out of 5 stars Great concept; some information is incorrect........1999-07-23

This book is a great concept with, in general, a good execution. But, as I toured the east coast a month or so ago, some of the information in the book was incorrect. There was a mangled URL, an incorrect phone number, and passages about museums which haven't been built yet. I found this book and tried to make a vacation of it; but after being misrouted to 2 of the 5 spots by this book, I wouldn't put 100% faith in it. But I also suppose that's part of the nature of these small museums, and why we have to visit them when we can; you wait, and they're gone.

5 out of 5 stars Don't Leave Home Without It!.......1998-10-20

Whether you are planning a weekend drive or a summer-long sojourn throughout the United States, take (and keep) this book with you. LITTLE MUSEUMS will allow you to see the world in a slightly different way and will give you many, many stories to tell when you get back home. No matter where you live or where you're traveling, this volume will come to be a best friend in your glove compartment. In its exhaustive evaluation of museums you couldn't even dream up if you tried, LM offers a snapshot of America that we once only imagined existed...but with LITTLE MUSEUMS, we are comforted that the strange is real, and we're happy that it is. Enjoy your journey.

This broadcasting reference provides the first comparative analysis of domestic fiction production in five major European countries: Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and Great Britain. Experts in the history of broadcasting in their respective countries have developed a comparative approach to assess the national specificity of television in their own countries on the basis of the similarities and differences with other national contexts.

Developed in cooperation with the team that created the exam, this book is the only certification study guide endorsed and recommended by IBM for test 287. It is designed to prepare Java programmers to fulfill the role of an IBM certified enterprise developer, supporting the jCert enterprise developer job role, which represents the highest level of Web and enterprise development. The most recent version of J2EE (Version 1.3) is examined and the rich features and functionality included in the WebSphere platform are presented. Programmers are guided through the myriad views and perspectives as well as the J2EE roles enabling them to build, test, assemble, and deploy enterprise applications the WebSphere way.

Spelling errors, wrong figures, inadequate examples, chapters not in order and more! CAUTION: the trial version of Websphere will STOP working after Dec 31, 2005 and is good only for 60 days! Unacceptable. I just bought the book in Nov 2005. No errata on the publisher's web site either. I have never seen such a useless certification book. Buy "Enterprise Java Programming with IBM WebSphere" (unfortunately from IBM Press as well). Be also wary of a good review written by the editor himself!

                          Worst book ever.

The intention of this book is to guide you through an example to understand WSAD 5.0. This starts roughly at page 19. On page 21, the illustrations no longer match the example and you WILL get a compile error. Now, with a little luck, I was able to continue with the example until page 30, where I'm completely stuck!

I would certainly give this book 0 stars if it was possible. Don't buy it! You WILL be disappointed!

                          1 out of 5 stars I AM APPALLED!.......2005-04-05

The book has absolutely NO source code provision and you cannot just decipher the code from the steps outlined in the book.

Then when I tried to go to the mcpressonline.com site to contact the authors I was unable to do so and I was unable to even post a review of the book over there (DESPITE spending 15 minutes registering).

If you just want to read what the people are writing without testing out the sample code then this is the book for you... but then you might as well read anything ... and it would be a little more entertaining.

Mr. Craig's book is a little better but both these books however lack support and detail. Its excruciating to go through the book when you know some of the steps have been skipped (reminded me of the assumptions made by authors when I was reading an awful math book). So you just wanted to get published, guys? Congrats you can now put that on your resume!

                          Target Audience
Developers who are looking to learn how to build J2EE applications using Websphere Studio Application Developer and obtain certification on the tool.

                          Contents
This book is a tutorial towards learning how to develop J2EE applications using the WebSphere Studio Application Developer (WSAD) product with an eye towards passing certification test #287.

The book is divided into the following chapters:

Introduction To IBM WebSphere; Developing Enterprise Applications With WebSphere Studio; Servlets; JavaServer Pages (JSP); Developing EJBs - Session Beans And The EJB Architecture; Developing Entity EJBs With Websphere Studio; Message-Driven Beans; Transactions; Security; JCA Tools And Supports; Profiling Analysis Tools In WebSphere Studio; Implementing Clients; Packaging And Deployment; WebSphere Administration; Remote Debugger And Java Component Test Tools In WebSphere Studio; CD Instructions; End Of Chapter Questions And Answers; Index

                          Review
IBM offers a number of certifications that revolve around the WebSphere Studio product. The top end certification in this track is the IBM Certified Enterprise Developer, also known as test 287. If you want some help in focusing your study, take a look at this book.

The author lists each certification objective to start the chapter, and then does an introduction of the subject matter, like security. From there, the topic is covered with text, diagrams where needed, and how it relates specifically to the WebSphere Studio package. This last part is where you'll get the most value. There are a number of books that can teach you about JavaServer Pages or servlets. Very few will make the connection to allow you to use WebSphere Studio to create those design elements. To wrap up each chapter, there are a number of questions you can use to assess your knowledge of the topic in preparation for the test.

This book does assume that you already know the J2EE technologies that are being covered. While the author does attempt to provide background material on each topic, you really do need to know it before you get to this point. The focus is on how each technology works with WebSphere for the purpose of passing the test.

In addition to using this book, I would also recommend getting a sample test from a test vendor. Between that and the book, you will stand a very good chance of passing the test.

                          Conclusion
If your goal is to pass test 287 in the IBM certification track, this is a good choice to focus your study time.
