Not for people who actually have problems........2007-10-21
According to several doctors my parents dragged me to, I am "clinically depresssed." When I was younger, and even now, I frequently cried myself to sleep.
When I was about ten, my mother bought me this book, hoping that it would "help me." It didn't help at all.
It made me feel that being weird is not okay. I know now that it is nonsense, no matter what this horrible company called "American Girl" tries to force young adolecent girls to think.
The American Girl company is a disgrace and, if the company were a living creature, it should be bound, gagged, and thrown in a pit of fire.
Great book ...................2007-10-19
My daughter is 10 and can relate to the "mood swings" already....
I also bought the "the care and keeping of you", which is great...but, she said this is her favorite since she gets to answer questions. She has also pointed out several "moods" that she has had with me and thought it was nice that it was normal. And you know what, so did I!!!
GREAT BOOK!!!!!!!!.......2007-09-23
Great book....my 7 yr old and I read it together. It allowed me to see & experience some of her true feelings about some things without her realizing it. It has a number of activities and exercises that we did throughout the book that really helped her open up about things she would normally feel a bit embarassed about sharing with me. A great book to read together during that precious parent/child time.
Excellent resource.......2007-09-02
This book has enabled my granddaughter to identify her feelings and has enabled her to share those feelings with her mother. I think this is highly important.
great book for youth.......2007-09-01
I got this book for my stepdaughter for her 10th birthday. I highly recommend this book.
Book Description
Divided into five thematic sections, the book illustrates different aspects of women's paid and unpaid work, and shows how their roles have changed over the past two hundred years. Kessler-Harris weaves together the experiences of poor, wealthy, middle-class women; trade union, professional and volunteer women; immigrant, non-English speaking, and black women; tracking their labor from the colonial household to the factories and beyond.

Good text for Culinary Students: Business and Math.......1998-08-03
ACF Competencies for Business and Math Skills, as outlined in the Apprenticeship Operations Manual v1.3 can be met with successful completion of this workbook. Great resources that chefs can use for many years. A few errors found: temperatures need to be updated to agree with ServSafe guidelines and Food Code of 1998.

Customer Reviews:
Technicaly Inacurate.......2007-08-20
This book contains many errors. In one chapter the book discusses PZM microphones. It refers to an image of an SM-57 microphone. This is incorrect.
Another section of the book discusses Phantom power and says that the power travels down both balanced audio lines and states that they are pins 1 and 2 of an XLR. Again this is incorrect. Phantom power travels down pins 2 and 3 which are the real balanced audio lines.
This book states to always allow for 4 amps per power amplifier. This is a wild statement when he does not know what power amplifier the reader is planning on using. Many amplifiers can use more then this amount and could be a disaster to anyone who only supplies 4 amps to each amplifier.
Author also states that the speed of sound increases with heat and humidity and then says that the actually speed depends on atmospheric pressure and air density. Humidity has little to nothing to do with the speed, but rather the absorption of acoustical energy.
I do not recommend this book for anyone! There is very little useful information and far too much inaccurate information. Many chapters consist of one to two pages which have only a couple of paragraphs on each. These are major topics and should have a lot more coverage in the book. Images are all in black and white and many are hard to make out what they are of. Author does not cover digital information as he should.
Good, but dated........2007-03-08
Overall this book gives a good overview into the field of concert lighting and sound. Much of the equipment talked about in this book is no longer in use in the field. The book does not include any talk about fiber optic cables, which are becoming a standard. I would only suggest this book to a younger reader that just wants a feel for the field.
Concert Sound and Lighting Systems.......2000-03-08
This book contains very general information on the basic steps and equipment required for a concert. It is very basic and provides very little technical information.

"Valuable tips infest this book like locusts from some biblical plague! A must for any Photoshop hack."
I used to think I was a fairly good Photoshop user, but after reading this book, I've come to the conclusion that I'm a moron. This Scott Kelby guy is a genius. He knows Photoshop like a vampire knows a neck, and he attacks his subject with the same gusto. The information, nay, wisdom gushes out of this book like water through a fire hydrant. It's just good!
The best part about all this is that Kelby doesn't ever put on airs. He never says, "Oh, I am the Photoshop Lord, so let me tell you the sordid history of Photoshop and pontificate at length about my many graphics arts achievements" or any of that other malarkey that a lot of those so-called expert books regurgitate. Kelby is the humble master, offering the most amazing tricks and suggestions you would never think up yourself, and doing so in a tight, well-written manner. I mean, this book reads so well that it actually made me want to subscribe to the Photoshop User magazine he edits just to read more of his stuff.
This is not a beginner's book. Don't pick it up if you're just learning Photoshop or are utterly unfamiliar with the terms. There is no handholding. There are no tedious explanations or goofy icons. It's just knowledge and wisdom written and illustrated in an appropriate and easy-to-follow manner. Even a Photoshop moron such as myself could follow the instructions and do amazing things.
The cover price may pinch you, but the information is worth it--even without the four-color illustrations on practically every page. (And the illustrations are necessary and important, not like the eye candy or silly graphics of many other four-color books.) This book reminds me of the heyday of computer book publishing way back in the late '80s: it's good, well-presented information, and it makes you a better computer user after reading it. I can't recommend it enough. --Dan Gookin
Book Description
Scott Kelby, Editor of Photoshop User magazine and nationally-known Photoshop guru, unlocks the secrets of the most closely guarded Photoshop 6.0 secrets in this update to his amazing Photoshop special effects cookbook. It's packed cover to cover with step-by-step tutorials on the coolest Photoshop 6.0 effects. No boring chapters on masking, no explanations of what a pixel is, no discussions of file formats or resolution--it's nothing but the cool stuff that will make your client's (or boss's) jaw drop.
Plus, it's an awesome Photoshop tips book too! That's because next to every tutorial, on every single page, there's a sidebar with a timesaving Photoshop 6.0 tip, trick, shortcut, or real-world technique to save you time, money, and make you more efficient. In fact, there's enough tips in this book that it would make a great Photoshop tips book by itself, even without all the special effects! With nearly 700 full-color images, you can see every trick, step-by-step, throughout the entire book. Best of all, the whole book is written in plain English, and you can jump in anywhere; simply open the book to the effect you want to create and follow along. It's that easy (and that much fun!). That's why this is the book that Dave Huss' Graphically Speaking column called "The mother of all Photoshop books!"
You'll learn:
*Amazing chrome and metallic effects
*6.0 Type effects that will knock them out!
*How to create those dazzling high-tech Web interfaces
*Cool 3D effects using Photoshop's own filters
*Photographic techniques that make you look like a pro
*The most popular Photoshop Web effects
*Shadow techniques that the pros really use
*Instant texture and background effects
*Amazing paint and brush tricks
*The most requested advertising effects
*And much, much more
If you're ready to learn the funk and not the junk; if you want to get in there and start creating the same effects you see in national magazines, on TV, and on the Web; if you're ready to learn the inside secrets for creating those eyepopping special effects that everyone wants to use--this book is for you!
Customer Reviews:
Best book for learning Photoshop quickly!.......2006-08-21
I love this book!!! I wasn't familiar with Photoshop at all and didn't have time to read a bunch of tedious text to learn what I wanted to know and with this book I had so much fun that I ended up learning much, much more and the exercises in the book are so well explained with pictures and keyboard shortcuts that you quickly become a real pro at making professional graphic designs and cool effects.
I'm a web designer and I use Photoshop on a daily basis and it has pushed my career forward in leaps and bounds. Couldn't have done it without this book! I highly recommend it!
Just say "NO" Newer editions - 'Maybe'.......2004-02-15
Great tricks. But my really old Adobe Photoshop 3 Wow book had double the tricks and thorough explanations on how to achieve them.
My biggest complaint: The book gives you few clues on how they made the trick.
I tried the first trick. Because the book fails to give much explanation, you have to hunt and peck on your own. After a few days of this, you have your friends try it. Over the weeks, the two of you finally figure out what the hell they did! And it has little to do with what the book said.
Next I tried the second `trick' in the book:. Same routine, only this time I never could figure it out.
So my friends - Why does it suck so bad?
For example: It fails to tell you what size to make anything; where you can find the sequence of options used; what font, typeface, size, leading, antialiasing, resolution, what options are set; on and on.
After trying to work two of their tricks, IM GOING BACK TO MY REAL OLD PHOTOSHOP 3 WOW! BOOK!
Last thoughts: I am very sorry for you if you bought this already. I can feel your pain. If you like the tricks in there, then go and examine the latest edition of the Down and Dirty Tricks -- I think it is Photoshop 7 Down and Dirty. It is about twice as thick because the editor apparently figured out that you have carefully construct explanations if you are trying to teach something technical. AFTER ALL - I CAN'T READ THE WRITERS MIND! Furthermore, after consulting my Photoshop 3 Wow book over some of the same Down and Dirty 'tricks', I'm convinced the writer has made several errors in the book! That and the fact that to get the first trick, two of us had to do several things different from the book to get it to work!
Scott Kelby & New Riders: I don't care whether your newer editions are better -- IM NEVER GOING TO DO BUSINESS WITH YOU! YOU SCREWED ME OVER!
Thanks Scott!.......2003-02-26
Using this book I learned how to create impressive metal and liquid lettering effects to enhance stunning ads for my archery manufacturing company!
Kelby provides simple instructions that teach you the keyboard shortcuts that will speed your graphic design. His ideas are great for magazine and web design.
Thanks for the help!
You don't have to know the whole program.......2003-01-08
This book allowed me to make things with Photoshop 6 even though I did not understand the whole program. Also introduced me to some of the features so I could use them later.
One of the best books on Photoshop!!!.......2002-11-13
If you read it, complete the tutorials, and absorb the knowledge in this book... you will be one step closer to mastering Photoshop. Absorb all of it... you will be surprised on how much information is in this book.
