Helpful if you are outgoing and experienced.......2007-05-14
This book has some ideas on how to find a third person, but they all seemed to be geared towards someone with experience in same-sex or group-sex activities. If you are wanting to try this out as "something new" then most of these tips may be too scary or uncomfortable for you!
Plus, it gives ideas like, "Place a personal ad." We all know about that route! Give me something I wouldnt think of myself!!!
In Response To Jennifer M's Review.......2007-05-06
This is just in response to Jennifer M's review and advice. I'm a guy and if you (the woman) seek out another woman on your own and don't include me (the male) thats not a threesome, thats lesbian sex. There is a big difference between the two, maybe you have not experienced a threesome but I guarentee you it's a totally different exerience than having one same sex partner. Think along these lines, one partner has two hands, one mouth, etc etc, two partners have 4 hands, two mouths, two private parts, to touch you with. Think about it, plus when you do a threesome in a committed relationship you will find that if you are both on the same page beforehand that your relationship will become stronger and that now you have many possibilities sexualy that you didn't before. If you have seperate lesbian sex I don't see that as fulfilling the m/f relationship and may result in resentment from the male (if he knows about it, which you probably didn't tell him you were going to do) and not reenforcing the BI element of the woman resulting in a dissinterest eventually in a straight component of the relationship. My bottom line is I think Jennifer is a lesbian who resents bisexuality, but thats my opinion so take it for what its worth. I'm ordering this book, after having done a threesome in Thailand with the same woman and my wife for a week, if nothing else just to get the communication continuing, and keep the talk going for this great encounter in my future, I'll update my review after I see the results, but just had to weigh in on Jennifer's advice to skip the threesome and move straight into 2 person lesbian sex.
Sexist!!! Stereotyped!!! Objectifying!!!.......2007-02-22
This is the most sexist book I have ever read. Women are portrayed as an object for men to play with. It stereotypes men as horny pigs that use women including their spouse only for sex. This book stereotypes the fact that women are not as sexual as men and have to be convinced by her spouse to have sex with him and another woman. This book is not ment for anyone intending to have sex including one woman and two men. In the event that one woman has sex with two men, the scenario includes all three people being drunk, and the woman who was instigating it all claims that the two men took advantage of her. If this book could be rated less than one star then I would have done so.
Well Put!.......2005-06-17
This book was the first book I've ever read on threesomes. Being a Threesome Expert Myself I have to admit that this book is a good "beginners book".
A Woman's Guide to Bisexuality and Bi-Curiosity.......2005-01-23
I had read this book years ago. But I recently revisited it to see if my perspectives on it had changed. And you know what? They had!
'Threesomes -- How To Fulfill Your Favorite Fantasy' by Lori Gammon is one of the best works of its kind I've ever read - and one of the first titles I ever came across which acknowledged the strength and prevalence of female bisexuality (women being interested in other girls sexually to some degree) - and how to fulfill this desire by engaging in a two-girl threesome.
Back when this was written (which wasn't that long ago), Lori, the author, had suggested using a threesome as a means for women to fulfill their same-sex longing - while avoiding the stigma of being called a lesbian.
For threesomes, Lori teaches us why lesbians won't be interested (because they want a monogamous, long-term relationship with women only), and why it's important for the female member (in the relationship) to take the initiative to seek out other girls, which tells other women that both members are serious about finding a third partner.
This is difficult for females, of course - because women aren't used to being the `initiator' - and are instead more accustomed to being the `gatekeeper' - as men wine and dine us in order to get between our legs! Everything Lori teaches us to fulfill our bisexual longing - is basically how to act like a man - in order to charm women into our beds (which actually isn't bad advice at all!).
An entire chapter is spent instructing us how to use personal want ads (which is something I would never do). But I guess the major issue I`ve always had with this book - that I realize now - is needing to fulfill my bisexual desires by using a threesome. As much as I love my guy, I'm not sure I want to share him with another (unattached) babe - especially one cute enough for me to be attracted to!
I also think that the world has changed somewhat since this book was written. I could be wrong, but lesbianism - and female bisexuality - aren't nearly the no-no's they were just a few years ago. So my advice for women is to take this book's teachings - and apply it - without the threesome element! (Just seek out another girl - on your own!)
And rather than using want ads, go instead to the book's very next chapter - which tells you how to turn your friend - into your lover (which is again advice which I've found to be much more fruitful!).
Most of my friends are married. And my lover(s) and I never have any desire to leave our mates - for each other! (Because that's for lesbians -- which we aren't - which also makes our encounters much less complicated!)
And the belief that having sex with your best friend will destroy your friendship - is just a bunch of bunk (probably spread, in fact, by men!). In reality, I've found the opposite to be true!
The major watch-out for women, speaking candidly -- is that females take a lot longer to reach satisfaction (which is why foreplay and seduction are so important). And the major element for making this kind of relationship successful - which Lori fails to highlight - is that everything needs to be kept absolutely confidential (which is like asking some women to cut out their tongues!). It's amazing how many opportunities will open up to you sexually (pun intended) - if you can keep a secret! Honest!
Now, Lori doesn't mention this either, but if a woman really insists upon including her mate, a method that one of my girlfriends claims works for her is to have a (modified) foursome - not a threesome! The men are sequestered in separate bedrooms - and the women (together) come to each of them in turn. The women are free to engage each other however they please - and the man can watch (and make suggestions)! But each man is only allowed to penetrate his wife (or girlfriend) -- and not the other -- although other forms of interplay (such as oral sex) could be added as an option. (Most men, I'm told, are more than happy with this arrangement.)
To conclude, when it comes to seducing other women, Lori Gammon, the author, appears to be an expert! But the times, I believe, have moved on -- and I wish she would rewrite this book - teaching women instead how to fulfill their bisexual longings on their own (with a threesome or a foursome as just a variation).
And if she would include the physical techniques for pleasing women as well, that would also be helpful (since one would now need to purchase another book in order to glean this information).
Despite all of these shortcoming, I still consider Lori's 'Threesomes' work to be the most definitive `how to' guide to help women satisfy their bi-curious side. Being bi-curious, after all -- is nice! But being bisexual (even part-time) - is much, much better! Enjoy.

a femenist perspective, but superlative work.......2006-03-19
The problem with sociology of gender is that the work seems to be dominated by a femenist perspective, instead of a value nuetral perspective. However, the field of gender sociology has been covered more assiduously (and thus remains more valid and relevant)then many other fields of sociology.
Otherwise, this is a fantastic book. The authors Dubeck and Dunn use a vast amount of resources to create a highly valid book that adresses gender and race inequality (from a female perspective). The first edition is really not too much different from the 2nd, but the articles are on different pages. The purpose of this second edition (like most updates) is to get more money from college students.

Book Description
The social domain of women and work is a dynamic field of study-filled with promise and problems that deserve careful scrutiny and understanding. Reflecting the ever-changing nature of the field, half of the readings are new to the Second Edition. For example, Unit Two presents a more extensive examination of the work context as an influence on women's work experiences and opportunities. Unit Three assesses the impact of women's active and continuous presence in the workforce by probing changes in the definition of a "good manager," by incorporating emotional labor as part of work demands, and by challenging the myth of gender differences in work values. Unit Four explores the various challenges in the work/family interface, including the "second shift" and the "time bind." In Unit Five we explore how women fare in a variety of occupations, documenting the special challenges they face and the strategies they use in their attempt to surmount these obstacles. "Food for Thought and Action" questions at the end of each reading are included to encourage the synthesis of information and to explore possible solutions to some of women's most vexing problems in today's workplace.

Eight stories of personal encounters among world groups.......2005-07-04
Global cultures clash daily, but none so personally as in Gayle Forman's You Can't Get There From Here: A Year On The Fringes Of A Shrinking World. Forman's trip around the world covers the cultures and differences in eight stories of personal encounters among world groups, from a group of transvestites on Tonga to an odd group of Lord of Rings fans acting out fantasy games in Kazakhstan in an effort to reclaim their European roots. The planet is shrinking as cultures overlap traditional and modern in strange, new ways: that's the underlying message of You Can't Get There From Here.
Entertaining and you learn something!.......2005-05-31
I love to be entertained by books that also teach you something along the way. Gayle did a great job of finding and exploring the obscure in every country she visited, grabbing you with her writing and taking you on her adventure.
Gayle takes you on a ride geographically and emotionally as she and her husband traverse the far corners of the world AND their relationship. I ended the book feeling like I knew the world a little better and was a little smarter about relationships as well!
You can get there from here.......2005-05-19
Globalization is one of the most common words used these days and the very same word has been addressed by Gayle Forman in this brilliant piece of work. But Forman has provided the world with a perspective on globalization not many tend to consider and reach out to. That perspective is that although globalization is changing the material scenario of the world and is aiming largely at the world market economy and its impact on our now 'tiny' globe, it must move forward and end with accomplishing a compassionate connection between its inhabitants.
You Can't Get There From Here is a book with a writer who is sometimes blatantly honest yet is totally empathetic towards everything and everyone she encounters along her path. It's open (with the writer sharing her most personal thoughts and events)yet sweet and gentle in a modest manner. Very witty yet non-judgemental.
The most powerful message conveyed in the book is that every place and person on earth has a unique value and most of the time all that is required to realize that value and learn something meaningful from it is to look beyond oneself and beyond what the exterior seems to be.
Everything about Forman's book is human and universal because her words are truthful and from the heart. It is a complete narration that leaves the reader satiated because there is nothing missing it its content.
Better Gayle than I.......2005-04-27
Gayle Forman and I occupy the far ends of the Bell Curve of travelers. She goes to Paris and never visits the Louvre; I often head to that glorious depository of art as soon as I've unpacked. But when it comes to travel books, I don't want to read about visits to the Louvre, I want an author who ventures to places I'm NEVER going to go (high on that list: Kazakhastan)and then tells me of adventures there with insight and wit. This is an absolutely marvelous book. I hated to see it end.

Book Description
A pop interpretation of love, obsession, and betrayal. Norwegian cartoonist Jason's latest graphic novel (his fifth to be released by Fantagraphics) chronicles one of the oldest love triangles in the world: Mad scientist creates monster, mad scientist creates woman for monster, mad scientist...falls in love with the woman he created for the monster!
Working with some classic pop-culture icons, Jason tells a witty and unique story about love, obsession, and betrayal, alternating his trademark pantomime sequences (as the three lovebirds circle each other) with pages of dialogue (as the mad scientist's hunchbacked assistant, during his regular lunches with a fellow hunchbacked mad scientist's assistant, describes and comments on the ongoing events, while pining for a nice quiet retirementor maybe just a better job).
Can't Get There From Here is presented in the same elegant format as Jason's previous popular graphic novel The Iron Wagon, a two-color process (black and grayish blue) on tinted paper with an uncoated cover stock printed in three simple colors, complete with flaps.

A Wonderful Book.......2006-11-17
"You Can't Get There From Here" is the story of a youth's daylong search for his father. His search throughout Manhattan becomes a personal odyssey, bringing both tears and laughter. The book's characters and
experiences are poignant scenarios of real life. The reader is carried along from one engaging adventure to the next, and finally to the day's thrilling, heart-pounding conclusion.
"You Can't Get There from Here" is an uplifting, life affirming book by one of America's great storytellers and writers. "(This book) is a hymn to the love of family and community Hamner had known as a boy." *
Highly recommended.

Expanded my musical horizons.......2005-03-30
This book is truly a masterpiece! The author interweaves a tapestry of spiritual philosophy and deep musical understanding which was quite captivating for me. While I have played music and listened to music all my life, and so consider myself to be quite well-versed when it comes to music, this book has given me a deeper insight into how to expand my appreciation of music--and gives examples of different kinds of music and how they relate to different states of consciousness. The "yoga of listening", which is spoken about in the book as a spiritual practice, is a very natural process which the reader is exposed to step-by-step. Already my musical horizons have been expanded and my music listening has been reinvigorated by reading it. Throughout the book various specific recordings are recommended--and so of course I had to try some out and in the process discovered some really great new music! That alone was worth the price of admission for me. Kudos to the author who obviously is both highly intelligent and creative--for this is truly an original piece of work--and a masterwork for sure! I'd give this book six stars if I could...
Truly Revolutionary book for musicians, listeners!.......2005-01-18
WOW! A breakthrough book that lifts the music experience to another level. Kurt Leland shows us that music can be a journey
of human consciousness, through finding the source of inspiration, energetic diagnosis of the music that surrounds us- - from classical, jazz to pop. By making us aware of how the music affects us, we can make a "conscious" journey of enlightenment and healing through the music that we listen to.
Leland equips us with knowledge and skills to identify and
diagnose the music that are in our lives, so that it functions as a tool for self-discovery. A must-read for all music
lovers.

Book Description
What's "real-world programming"? Real-world programming (typically called real-time programming) is programming that interacts in some way with the "real world" of daily life. At one time, real-time systems were confined to very esoteric applications, like rocket guidance systems. Now, they play a role in almost every aspect of life: they control the brakes on your car, video games, automatic bank tellers -- and the disk drive in your computer. It won't be long before mundane devices like toasters and hair dryers have microprocessors built in, to say nothing of multimedia devices that haven't even been invented yet. Real-world applications are characterized by deadlines. If the brake processor in your car doesn't meet a deadline, your car doesn't stop; if your video game doesn't meet a deadline, the Klingons don't die when you shoot them; if your ATM doesn't meet a deadline, you may start looking for another bank. When you've just rear-ended another car, it's no consolation that a sudden flurry of input slowed down your brake processor, so it couldn't react quickly enough when you hit the pedal. This book covers the POSIX.4 standard for portable real-time programming. The POSIX.4 standard itself is a massive document that defines system interfaces for asynchronous I/O, scheduling, communications, and other facilities. However, this book does more than explain the standard. It provides a general introduction to real-time programming and real-time issues: the problems software faces when it needs to interact with the real world and how to solve them. And, unlike most books about standards, this one isn't just readable -- it's enjoyable! If you're at all interested in real-time applications -- which include just about everything from telemetry to transaction processing -- this book will be an essential reference. Chapters include:
- The Basics of Real-Time: Multiple Tasks
- Better Coordination: Messages, Shared Memory, and Synchronization
- On Time: Scheduling, Time, and Memory Locking
- I/O for the Real World
Includes programming exercises, solutions, and reference manual pages.

The Best.......2003-01-16
If you know C and know UNIX, this book is for you. Simply put, he knows what he's writing about and he presents the material in a logical, methodical manner.
This book was written just before the POSIX4a standard was completed, so no PThreads are covered.
As long as you're not expecting PThreads coverage, you won't be disappointed. Most of the topics you need to know about mutli-threaded programming (besides PThreads) are here.
Perfectly written.......2002-08-10
This is the best book on the subject. One can tell that the author is an expert and knows very well what he is talking about.
Unlike one reviwer mentioned below - I dont think he has read any part of the book - this is not an "reasonable introduction" at all. This is an in depth handling of the topic.
Excellent guide to real-time POSIX.......2002-02-04
The book consists of 2 parts. The 1st part is a detailed guide to the real-time POSIX programming. The 2nd part presents a reference to all POSIX real-time functions. The book also has an appendix with various sample and exercise code.
All explanations in the first part are very clear and complete. Writing style resembles the best programming books (like those from K&R or R.Stevens). At the same time everything is given in a distilled manner without unnecessary water, so that you might handle the stuff surprisingly fast.
The second part is less valuable since all this material can be found in UNIX man. But if to see it as just a free bonus for the 1st part it is not bad at all. In any case having printed manuals is quite useful.
Sample code in the appendix is also interesting to look at.
Actually I didn't notice any considerable drawbacks in the book and recommend it to everyone interested in the subject.
The prerequisites are minimal. You should know C and be familiar with the basic UNIX/POSIX API (like working with files, etc.). The next reading is obvious - some book on POSIX threads (I'd recommend one by Mr. Butenhof).
Intro & Reference to Real-Time POSIX S/W Development.......2001-03-14
Gallmeister splits this book into two main sections, an introduction to the material and a reference section, which provides detailed documentation for the various function calls and header files. Somebody new to the material will find the first section indispensable, while the pro will flip to the reference section to answer questions.
Chapter one provides an overview of the problems this book addresses. The second chapter examines POSIX, POSIX options, and POSIX namespaces. Chapters 3 - 6 define real-time problems and POSIX.4 solutions. Chapter 7 considers the issues of real-time performance.
Gallmeister provides many example code fragments to illustrate his points. He would have done better to have annotated his examples, instead of writing a number of descriptive paragraphs after each fragment. A particularly useful feature is his discussion of "current UNIX practice."
Overall, this book provides a reasonable introduction to the concepts of real-time programming, and a number of "recipe" examples for the POSIX environment. Recommended if you'd like to develop real-time skills or need a reference work on the subject. I found it useful learning to develop QNX software, even though QNX implements a number of "optional" features differently.
Excellent reference Guide !!!!.......2000-08-08
A very good tutorial and an excellent reference. I use the reference pages in the POSIX Programmer's Guide for all of the normal library functions and I know my program will be portable. Also this book is real helpful for Most of the Unix User for Project.
