This book allows you to easily leave a legacy for grandchildren. Can include generic info such as geneology, as well as very personal memories/reflections and lots of space for those special pictures you hope would never be lost. It is truly a way to give a gift of love.

Great book and project for giving to your grandchildren. I have completed one book and plan on filling others. A nice gift for a new grandmother.

5 out of 5 stars special keepsake. .......2007-05-13

My mom bought this book for my grandma to fill out for me when I was a baby. (1983) My grandma liked it so much that she bought six more over the years for my siblings and cousins. She added in as many photos as she could fit and some of the little pictures I drew for her when I was a kid. This book really means a lot to me.

    Book Description

Computers, data bases, and the Internet are revolutionizing the tourism and hospitality industries. Using a combination of narrative, analysis, and worldwide case studies, this book traces the introduction of electronic information in the tourism industry. The book then places current developments in context and assesses the potential of technologies still being developed to change the tourism sector in the future. It includes numerous case studies from around the world and discusses the distribution strategies of such companies as SABRE, Group Accor, Holiday Inn, Utell International, and Best Western, as well as examining new systems under development, including TIS, Gulliver, TravelWeb, Microsoft Expedia, and THG. Written from a management, rather than a technical, perspective, the book takes an international approach with particular emphasis on the final product.

"Norse Mythology...According to Uncle Einar" is actually a "children's book for grown-ups" with plenty of illustrations. It's a humorous re-telling of 17 of your favorite tales, starting with "How Asgard was Built and how Odin Got a Horse" and winding up with "The War to End All".

    5 out of 5 stars If this is a kid's book, then I'm a 60-yr-old kid!.......2002-07-17

I find it hard to consider this a collection of bedtime stories, because it kept me awake long into the night. I couldn't close the covers after just one or five -- I had to keep going. I'm no Norse scholar; I just like a really well-told yarn. I think I may have accidentally learned something of Norse mythology while I was giggling, siickering, chuckling, and just plain guffawing my way through Uncle Einar's hilarious tales.

    5 out of 5 stars Jane Sibley's Evil Uncle.......2001-07-09

A wickedly witty send-up of the Eddas -- and all the other Viking myths, too. Serious historians won't know whether to have apoplexy or choke themselves in the effort not to giggle. The rest of us can just sit back, read, and laugh our sea-boots off. And the illustrations are apt to both content and tone of the stories.

5 out of 5 stars The best book of bedtime stories - ever!.......2001-06-24

Norse Mythology...According to Uncle Einar is the best retelling of any mythology I have ever read. Instead of a stuffy, boring book you open the pages of an incredible romp through the Norse Pantheon.

Who ever expected to see the Norse gods portrayed as life in a small Tennesee town, complete with bikers, people from the wrong side of the tracks and disfunctional families!

Think of it as Lil Abner goes a-viking ;-)

Definitely one for the permanent collection!

5 out of 5 stars Yah, sure! You betcha!.......2001-06-22

Jane Sibley takes the Norse Myths and "updates" them in a way that is side-splittingly funny. Framed as a set of 17 bedtime stories, these tales revolve around the Valhalla Sports Bar and Grill (which has a coin-operated bucking bronco on the porch) in Asgard (an old-money Vanir suburb recently invaded by arriviste Aesir). The cast includes Thor (a biker), Heimdall (the local FBI/BATF/DEA agent), Tyr (who runs the VFW), and various gods, redneck Jotuns, and other dubious creatures. Sibley has a wonderful wry wit, and shows her vast knowledge of the subject as she lovingly skewers it. The storytelling is as good as Tom Holt or Terry Pratchett at their best. There is an allusion to a followup volume; I only hope it's true...

    5 out of 5 stars Fantastically Funny.......2001-06-22

This is a wonderfully funny book. Anyone interested in Norse mythology from the beginner to the serious student should have this book. It is described as a childrens book for adults. Between the witty stories and the humourous drawings, this book is a must have.

4 out of 5 stars Practical and Comprehensive.......2007-01-15

Music In Childhood was the textbook for two classes I took during my undergrad - Methods for Early Childhood Music and Methods for Middle Childhood Music. Both were really important segments of my music ed. degree. Even though I will never be more than a private piano instructor, I found this textbook to be packed with vital help about children and their ability to learn music - bottom line. I don't ever plan on teaching school and I am quite happy with my piano studio, but there are some things that are universal in teaching music and this text seems to highlight each and every one of them. I didn't hang on to any of my conducting books or vocal methods books, but this one I kept. I have used it many times as a reference and I know I'll use it in the future. This is almost essential to any music teacher out there, whether you're in the schools or simply have a private studio like I do.

          Book Description

Reviewing key contemporary issues and debates about consumption, this volume portrays and assesses the varied and complex intersections of consumption and everyday life. Throughout, the contributors show how cultural consumption involves a range of active, creative, and critical practices. The rich and idiosyncratic nature of local consumption practices is illustrated through cases from different parts of the world. Through such cases, the contributors show the varying balance between constraint and creativity, links between consumption and production, and the patterns that shape access to symbolic and material resources. Consumption takes place in the context of everyday lives, which take place in space: questions of place and identity, the privatization of the home, and the linking of local everyday practices with broader, global processes are explored. Particular attention is given to the media and new communication technologies as points of overlap and exchange between the local and the global, between domestic consumption and the public sphere. The book is written in an accessible style, and each chapter includes questions and activities for students, and selected readings. The book will be of interest to students and lecturers across a range of disciplines including sociology, anthropology, communication, cultural and media studies, and geography.

THE ZEN OF SELLING The Way to Profit from Life's Everyday Lessons

For professional salespeople on the go, wading through a '500-steps-to-success' manual or trying to memorize sales rules are poor ways to learn. Salespeople know that nothing beats the impact of a real-life story.

Now every important sales secret has been clarified and crystallized in this short, lively, and compelling collection of 17 stories. From handling harsh rejection to closing a tough sale, the stories use real-life contexts and fully fleshed out characters to illustrate fundamental selling rules.

The truths that emerge in The Zen of Selling are universal, cutting across the sales spectrum of products, industries, experiences, and styles. Both enlightening and entertaining, the book is ideal for experienced salespeople who want a quick, fun to read refresher and for newcomers seeking an innovative primer on the essentials of selling.

          4 out of 5 stars It's okay--just very little Zen.......2005-04-18

There's not much Zen in this book, and all the Zen that is in this book is in the 4-page introduction.

This book talks about Stan's imaginary friend, Victor, who knows everything, everyone, and has done everything. In addition to that, Victor is a great salesman, who has made all the mistakes earlier on so he now knows everything. So, Victor is the guy who you learn all of the sales lessons from.

It's pretty good with the sales concepts. It focuses on relationship selling, and I thought it gave some good lessons and examples.

It's written in a fictional and narrative style, so it's easier to digest than a sales "textbook."

5 out of 5 stars One of the best.......2000-08-23

5 out of 5 stars A romantic read with the Zen of Selling.......1999-04-22

The Zen of Selling filled me not only with the spirit of how to accomplish life goals but it gave me a solid feel to improve my selling. I remember last summer reading the stories aloud to a friend. Me and my friend were enjoying the day taking a boat ride in Central park. As I breathed in the day the clarity Stan gave me made my day complete. A day that I will never forget. Thank you, you are talented man 17.

5 out of 5 stars A book that should be in every salesperson's briefcase.......1999-04-08

I am completely captivated by this gentle little book, and I urge you to look past the sometimes-dirty word "selling" in the title. Look instead to the subtitle for the real substance you'll get from reading The Zen of Selling.

Stan Adler tells a number of tales, often introduced and always given meaning by Stan's friend and wise man, Victor. From lessons on balance, appearance, situational ethics and perseverance we learn that the sales process is not a checklist, but a metaphor for living life in the service of others. Adler brings a sense of mild irony to many of his stories; I'm a sucker for a good ironic tale.

As a talk show host, I've been treated amazingly well by the salespeople who knew my name and my occupation. For those salespeople who didn't know what they were doing and treated me poorly, I've never made it a point to say anything bad about them on the air. What I am doing for them these days is admonishing them to get this book and learn their craft, not simply appear at their station. The Zen of Selling is worth ten times the sales price - buy it now before the rest of your competitors do.

5 out of 5 stars THE ZEN OF SELLING is a masterpiece of practical philosophy........1999-03-22

Stan Adler's THE ZEN OF SELLING is a masterpiece of practical philosophy. Yes, it's a book about sales techniques, but it's also a book about being a good person. Typical of the philosopher's approach is Adler's maxim: "When you are doing something for someone else, you are always at your best. . .and that certainly includes people who sell." Plato, Aristotle, and Confucius would agree.

Good people are, by nature, good sales representatives. They understand that selling is not an adversarial relationship, but a cooperative one. "Forget the selling," says Adler. "Let the customer do the buying." In short, the salesperson is the guide, the director, the facilitator--not the marketing hero. A successful sales campaign is really an affirmation of values that the buyer and seller hold in common.

THE ZEN OF SELLING breaks new ground in the commercial world. As such, Adler's book is not a sales primer, but a meditation on sales. In a fascinating collection of stories, maxims, and anecdotes, Adler reminds us that effective salespeople are well versed in the art of "understanding customers as people."

In Adler's world, "Victor" is the protypical sales success. He is a diplomat, a philosopher, and a friend. He understands that "sales" is really another word for "affirmation." Victor is the voice of understanding, the voice of patience, the voice of reason in an overly competitve business climate. Victor's message is clear: People who help others will also be successful. The same rule applies in sales.

Stan Adler's THE ZEN OF SELLING is an important contribution--a book that is both inspirational and practical. But when you visit your local bookstore, do not assume that THE ZEN OF SELLING is shelved with other books on sales. Look around. You just might find Adler's book in the Philosophy section.

When folks set out to create a database, they often use Microsoft Access as their development tool simply because it's right there on their computers. Despite its membership in the Microsoft Office family, Access can quickly overwhelm the user with its strange terminology and complicated interface. The Complete Idiot's Guide to Microsoft Access 2000 untangles this powerful application and enables you to create useful data-centric applications.

Author Joe Habraken begins by explaining what databases are and how they are used before pointing out the key elements of Access's user interface and Help systems. He then shows you how to create a database using the Database Wizard and the templates included within the software. He also delves into custom table creation and the mechanics of entering data into tables. Along the way, readers learn technical details on sorting and filtering records and how to insert new fields into an existing database.

The real fun starts when The Complete Idiot's Guide to Microsoft Access 2000 discusses the process of establishing relationships among multiple databases and creating forms to display information attractively. Habraken orients the reader to queries and reports before touching on macro and module programming, interface customization, and Access's Web-publishing capabilities. --David Wall

5 out of 5 stars Great book for beginners.......2004-09-20

I would recommend this book for "computer literate" folks who are new to Microsoft Access. The book covers all/most of the tasks beginners would want to accomplish using a personal database application. I was able to create a simple database (one table) with the functionality - forms, queries, reports - I needed over a single weekend using this book. The data was imported from an Excel spreadsheet which I had been using for reports. The Access migration now gives me better (and easier to manage) functionality than I got with the spreadsheet.

                1 out of 5 stars Confused.......2004-02-11

This book is hillarious for it's glaring errors. As the author obviously knows a great deal about his subject, I can only assume the editor/s is/are complete idiots.

The data does not fit when input masks are created as directed. Only one set of data appears to be offered by the book (customers). Extra fields appear in tables in different parts of the book.

When a tutorial is offered to a novice, it should be a correct in every detail. One error in the tutorial is one too many.

5 out of 5 stars Great book for beginners!.......2000-06-03

This book really helped me get up and running with Access 2000. Great examples and a good sense of humor.

3 out of 5 stars Ok, but not supper either for beginner or tech.......2000-05-30

This one is acceptable if you like to pay double time to get one stuff. Something is not well-organized but fortunate is you can pick 'em up by time.

4 out of 5 stars a fantastic overview of all the major office programs.......2000-09-02

I have to admit that I'm becoming addicted to the idiot's guides. Contrary to their title, they help experts and idiots alike. For the novice, most of this material may be new, but even the expert can pick up some great tips. The book is divided into the major office programs: Word, Outlook, Access, Powerpoint and Excel. Though individual books focus in more detail on each of these programs, there is certainly enough information here to do the majority of projects that most people would be inclined to do. The great thing about these guides is that you will suddenly find yourself unable to unlock a much higher potential of these powerful programs, particularly in Excel. The chapter on Excel is very easy to follow and teaches you how to do the most common formulas like autosum. Even regular Word users will perfect the art of making tables, even for such common items as resumes. The format is extremely readable and easy to follow. I find that these guides only take a few hours to read, but the effects last for months. Highly recommended for anyone who wants a quick refresher course on the most common features of these office programs.
