I GOT THIS WITH A LIPPINCOTT STUDY GUIDE AND FINISHED NCLEX IN 40 MIN AND PASSED!

NCLEX great study aide.......2007-05-17

This was one of the more difficult of the NCLEX books, it has more of the pick all of the correct answer questions. Make sure you use the CD to study with it gets you into the computer testing mode for the real NCLEX. Use this and the Lippincott's Review for Nclex-Rn,Mosby's Comprehensive Review of Nursing for NCLEX-RNÂ® (Mosby's Comprehensive Review of Nursing for Nclex-Rn)to study for your nursing school tests. They are very helpul in getting you into the critical thinking mode instead of the memorization mode.

I PASSED!.......2007-05-14

Well I passed the NCLEX. There were some nice test taking stratagies, and some good questions, but if you are already taking a NCLEX study course this is overkill (take that how you want).

Great Buy.......2005-03-21

This book was a main tool in my studying for the NCLEX. I passed the first time and the strategies outlined in this book will work, given that you already have a good body of knowledge. Saunders is a good reference for a comprehensive review. I had no trouble with the book or CD and highly recommend this if you want to pass the NCLEX the first time!

DON'T Buy.......2005-01-23

I bought this along with several other programs due to its having a CD (even though it had only one practice test)and its being advertised to mimic the new NCLEX format. The book and the CD were not in the new format and didnt have questions (such as multiple multiples and diagrams) similar to the new NCLEX. Also, after taking the 2 hour practice test, the program would not let me see my results nor the analysis of any questions. Tech phone support said it happens sometimes and to try retaking the test (waste another 2 hrs of my valuble time?) Tech email support sent a return email several days after I had already taken the NCLEX.
So neither the book nor the CD is as Kaplan advertised and the CD doesnt work and tech support in awful. Therefore don't waste your money on this. Two very good study tools I recommend are from ERI and from Lippincot. I credit these two aids (along with alot of prayer) with passing NCLEX after answering only 75 questions.

Great musical biography.......2002-02-22

This is a terrific show-biz bio that focuses on Berlin's career and tells enough about his personal life to satisfy those of us who remember how complex he was. There are many details of his projects on Broadway and in Hollywood, his publishing company, his early career as a singing waiter, and his tormented retirement. Anyone who likes the kind of anecdotes Moss Hart recounts in "Act One," anyone who is interested in the process of putting on shows and developing movies, will be fascinated by this. The book overflows with the larger-than-life personalities you expect from show business, and there are choice revelations (to me, at least), like his first encounter with George Gershwin, who as a very young man wanted to be Berlin's musical secretary but was rejected for being too talented (i.e., threatening).

The psychology (or psychosis?) of Berlin's genius is presented in a straightforward, non-babbling way. His complexity comes through in his ambivalence towards colleagues, with examples of generosity (an anecdote about the young Burton Lane), avuncularity (Harold Arlen), and rivalry (Richard Rodgers), all contrasted with the almost comical hostility he showed towards some "civilians," especially the scholarly types ("f***ing longhairs") who wanted to dissect him late in his career. His most famous paradox -- the fact that without being able to read music or play an instrument well or even sing decently, he was able to create works of matchless intricacy and depth -- is discussed thoroughly, although it will forever remain mysterious.

There are two dimensions I would like to have seen more fully explored. First, his relations with his original family are almost non-existent after his childhood. While this must be a reflection of reality, I was left curious about what went on between him and his sisters, nephews, and nieces. It's obvious that a major part of his assimilation was to reject all vestiges of his childhood, but it would have been nice to have more detail about encounters with those inconvenient relations. One of the few stories Bergreen includes -- about a sister dying of cancer -- is so painful that maybe he couldn't bring himself to pile on more.

Another aspect that could have been more developed was Berlin's technique. Although no one will ever be able to explain exactly why he's the greatest American songwriter, I would have liked more analysis about how he was able to achieve his unique combination of simplicity and sophistication. There is a total absence of musical examples, which might have two reasons: that publishers of musical bios tell their authors to leave notation out the same way authors of popular science books are prohibited from using equations, or that Berlin's estate forbids the quoting of even the smallest snippets of his songs. Or maybe the author isn't as much of a "longhair" as he seems to be from the precision and insight of his observations.

But even though I would have enjoyed reading more of the above, the book is totally splendid as is. The best compliment I can think of is that it does justice to one of the great artists of the 20th century.

A WELL RESEARCHED BIOGRAPHY.......2000-10-24

LAURENCE BERGREEN has done a terrific job in all departments. When you finish the book, you have a good idea of who IRVING BERLIN was, and what a life he had from singing waiter to AMERICAN's first great composer with JEROME KERN. Anyone interested in the story of AMERICAN music should read that book.

A Wonderful Book About A Great American.......2000-01-08

I enjoyed Bergreen's book about Irving Berlin as I did his book on Al Capone. To think that all these great songs came from one man simply boggles the mind.

rich, serious but cheerful history of I. Berlin and his era.......1996-05-22

This book is so much fun, filed with intelligent analysis of what made the genius Berlin tick, why he was a genius, how he fit and didn't fit into his time and culture, etc. Berlin emerges both larger and clearer than his public image, a charming, busy, character. I am off, immediately, to get Bergreen's life of Capone. I understand he also wrote a biography of James Agee, but I don't see it on Amazon's data base. Does anyone know if that is still available anywhere

Any episode of a crime or mystery series involves some or all of the following: the perpetration of a crime; its investigation; the analytical process which involves the determination of the villain; the arrest and trial of the culprit; and the handing out of the appropriate punishment. Such series involving the exploits of a wide variety of courageous heroes and heroines were very popular during the 1950s, and they featured a host of actors and actresses, including famous television detectives (i.e. Raymond Burr), those famous in other genres (i.e. Boris Karloff, Charles Bronson), and over 250 other players with recurring roles. This reference work lists every player who had a regular role in a crime or mystery series during the early era of television. All covered series offered live or filmed episodes of a crime or mystery nature, and all were shown on American television. All series had either regular stars or a recognizable host. Entries cover the players real name, family information and education; how the player originally broke into show business; the players career preceding the series; and his or her marriage, children, death date, and film and television credits. Appendices provide a catalog of American mystery series and a list of regular mystery series players whose roles began after December 31, 1959.

I think Mr.Aaker has done it right again. he has taken a decade of televsion and included most everyone who was a part of a series in the cop genre. it is highly illustrated with fun facts of people long forgotten. a well researched reference volume to use while watching any of the nostalgia channels. I have his other book on western televison stars, a great companion. I like this one better. seems to have more listings. guess there were more cops and robber shows than westerns at that time.again hats off to mr. aaker. am waiting for your sit-com volume and or variety volume or children's show volume, ect.
his work belongs in the reference shelves of all who love the classic tv days.

Jones and Marsden offer us a high level way to design mobile devices. The emphasis is on cell phones. But there is the broader scope of various types of handheld devices, like PDAs. They suggest how to design within the typically severe constraints imposed upon you. Like low power, small screen, a limited keyboard or keypad. The small screen means that menus have to be carefully thought out.

Various ways of prototyping are given.

The book has informal case studies of actual product design methods used by Nokia, HP and other companies. Some of you will find these valuable, as a tangible focus for study. All of this is explained at a level understandable to a broad audience.
