Customer Reviews:
Great PCAT book.......2007-01-05
This is the cheaper alternative to paying for the class. My score increased by 15 points. It is much better than Barron's prep book because the book is divided in to chapters and lessons - not just pretests.
Very good book for review.......2005-09-23
Would recommend for everyone. Good plan for review. Better than other book a lot.
Kaplan PCAT 2004 - 2005 edition.......2005-08-13
This book is okay. Nothing more or out of this world. The editors definitely do not double check the text because there are A LOT of errors.
Good book for PCAT, but bad editting from kaplan.......2005-08-11
I haven't yet taken the pcat. But my friends are recommending this book to prepare for it. I have already read more than half of the book and they did explained knowledges that I need to prepare for pcat very clearly. It was good starting from the beginning up to the Bios section. I did not regret getthing this book. However, I found this book have many typos and stupid major mistakes onces I got to the Chem section. (ex. in the organic chapter, carbon suppose to have no more than 4 bonds, but they showed a carbon with 3 single bonds and one double bonds. Then they asked a question "what is the hybridization of the carbon atom labeled", which they labedled the H atom instead. This book could be way better if they correct all these stupid mistakes.
Kaplan PCAT.......2005-08-02
This seems to be a very good review for the PCAT. However, I have not yet taken the PCAT so I still have to see how well it prepared me for it. The only beef I have with this edition is that it does not contain info on the changes in the test. They refer you to a website to cover the new material. Also the book contains info that isn't on the test anymore. I think they should have redone the book and included the new material and got rid of the old.

Book Description
The Wagner Act of 1935 (later the Wagner-Taft-Hartley Act of 1947) was intended to democratize vast numbers of American workplaces: the federal government was to encourage worker organization and the substitution of collective bargaining for employers' unilateral determination of vital work-place matters. Yet this system of industrial democracy was never realized; the promise was "broken." In this rare inside look at the process of government regulation over the last forty-five years, James A. Gross analyzes why the promise of the policy was never fulfilled.
Gross looks at how the National Labor Relations Board's (NLRB) policy-making has been influenced by the President, the Congress, the Supreme Court, public opinion, resistance by organized employers, the political and economic strategies of organized labor, and the ideological dispositions of NLRB appointees. This book provides the historical perspective needed for a reevaluation of national labor policy. It delineates where we are now, how we got here, and what fundamental questions must be addressed if policy-makers are to make changes consistent with the underlying principles of democracy.

Uses for Mooses
ASIN: 088240587X |
Book Description
Moose show up in the oddest places in the North, in children's inflatable swimming pools, peeking through living room windows, even at McDonald's drive-ups. The comical nature of Alaska's lumbering "Official Land Mammal" has long made it one of the "must-sees" high on every visitor's wish list. Its popularity is even more evident in gift stores chock-full of souvenirs for the moose-obsessed, from moose-adorned T-shirts and cabin furnishings, to moose-dropping necklaces and swizzle sticks. MOOSE VIEWS captures moose meanderings through the human world in hilarious photographs and commentary from the moose point of view. And, for those serious moose fans who want to know more about this curious beast, detailed natural history information on moose habits and habitat is provided at the back of the book.

Customer Reviews:
An Excellent Programmed Text for Basic Music Theory.......2006-08-27
I found this book to be a great beginning text for understanding music theory. It is very easy to follow. While I sometimes find programmed texts to be tiresome, this book found the right balance between repetition and progress.
Self-Paced Way to Basic Music Theory Comeptance.......2006-01-27
Wanting to accompany my instrument lessons with some theory, asked a composer friend what he recommended. This was it.
He was right. Self-paced, well laid out, with building block approach from the outset, assuming nothing, then building through eleven chapters with exercises as one goes that assure the user that the concept is down, or time to go back and relook.
Like self-guided computerized work without screen. Nice to be in a book again.
One can see how this has become classic. Tried and tested, this will assist all who want basic music theory foundation.
Basic Materials in Music Theory.......2005-09-15
This is a required text for the intro to music class I am taking
in college. It would make a fair to average work book, worth about $10 on the open market. But it is by no means a text book,
as the reader's attention is continually distracted by questions
and "fill in the blank" trivia. Explainations of note divison,
beat and other fundamentals are rarely shown on staff notation.
The vocabulary and definitions are archaic. This is not worth
reading let alone paying $76 for.
Excellent course for beginner or review.......2005-08-10
This book is laid out in excellent, understandable, interesting order and progression. It covers all of the basics, with self paced excercises to facilitate the mastery of the concepts presented. I am using this book for myself now and will use it for my voice students in the future.
An Excellent Introduction to Theory .......2004-11-04
This is a good book and excellent way of learning the basics with how the lessons are laid out. I have really no formal training in music but was really keen on learning so I picked this one up based on recommendations from the other reviewers. Some parts were a little hard, like compound time and borrowed time but I kept ploughing through and it just got easier. As of course with any book, don't expect to get all of your information from one source. I have some other books that explain a little better the Major/Natural Minor, Harmonic and Melodic Minor scales with regards to the pattern of intervals that define each. I would recommend picking up a basic book on how to read sheet music. With this and Basic Materials in Music Theory you'll have some good introductory foundatation for further studying and other texts.

Learn HTML 4 IN a Weekenr 4th edition.......2007-07-12
As a dislexic computer user I will not be able to use this publication.
I need instructions in colour and well spaced, laid out in an imaginative manor. What can I do, could I return this book as I found it impossible to understand how to begin to use it? It is not user friendly for those with this learning difficulty.
Great beginners learning tool.......2005-09-15
Most HTML instructional books I've seen are closer to reference manuals than learning tools. If you want to learn how to build web pages from scratch using native HTML this is the book you should be looking at. Years ago I used the 1998 "Revised Edition" of this book which came with a CD to learn most of what I know about HTML. What I liked the most about it was that it separated each major study area into standalone elements. When I finished a particular tutorial session I could actually start using what I learned in real life web pages. In addition, all the coding examples presented in the book were also on the CD I got with the book. On thing I especially liked was that I found nothing strange in any of Callihan's coding examples. Unlike a lot of authors of technical books he doesn't make any assumptions about his readers' prior technical knowledge. His coding example only used HTML commands that he had already thoroughly explained in his instructional text.
The "Revised Edition" version of the book I read began with teaching you the basic HTML commands, then it moved on to the intermediate commands, then advanced commands and finally it dealt with a few of the more esoteric subjects. The book would almost certainly bore most web savvy readers; however, if you're a novice and want to learn HTML from scratch I highly recommend buying this one.
One last thing, it's just a cute title. Don't expect to be whipping out web pages after just one weekend. It will take you at least two or three. I never did get around to reading "The Frames Tutorial" section of my book and since I don't use frames I probably never will.
