Seriosuly. It's Merriam-Webster for kids. Has plenty fo pictures and the typical information attached to each word. It has less words than Merriam-Webster because it focuses on words that children will come across. Otherwise, it is a very thorough dictionary for children and my 7-year-old daughter loves it.

I'd recommend buying Scholastic Dictionary Of Spelling (Revised) to go with it for your child to be able to look up spellings of words. Using both of them together truly helps to improve the vocabulary of your child.

Just like the other reviews said, it's a good resource for kids. Do expect to need a collegiate dictionary though. We've already come across 4 words in my daughter's writing curriculm that's not included. So I'll be looking at the used pages again.

User Friendly.......2007-07-16

We bought this dictionary for our eight year old, but our whole family likes and uses this dictionary. The colored markings on the edge of the pages make it easy to get to the letter you're looking for quickly. The descriptions are complete but concise. The many colorful illistrations make this a fun book to browse through. And, so far there hasn't been a word she's needed to look up that hasn't been in this book.

I teach second grade that there is no bigger movitater to reading than Garfield books. So I spent a fortune of my classroom funds buying new ones only to have them fall apart and be useless.Not just one Garfield book, but all of the ones I had bought...maybe 4 or 5 of them. When I complained to Amazon they said they had no control over workmanship and it was "too bad" that that had occurred, but there was nothing they could do. Anyone who reads this needs to buy only library bound copies, as the customer has no way of knowing of this malady until it's too late and you have a pile of pages in your classroom library.

I bought this book for my 9-year-old son, and he loves it! He loves recognizing many of the movies mentioned in the book, and we talk about the other movies he doesn't know. This book has given him hours of laughs, and he loves sharing it with his friends.

My 8 year old son wanted this book because he loves Garfield. This is a very good book and it helps him to read different types of letters. My older son (11) read the book and liked it as well. I think it is a very funny book. It does help that we all like Garfield.

Interesting approaches, some good tips.......2004-07-23

The main sets of Tips'n'Tricks are about what you might expect: planets, suns, iridescence, water, depth of field blur, and so on. There are a few unusual ones, as well - posterization, interesting filters, even ray-tracing and general purpose computation.

The disk was a bit disappointing. Almost all of the demos worked, and none of them were come-ons for anyone's products. That's the good news. There were far fewer demos than chapters in the book, though - some of the sections that interested me most did not have support on the CD. At very least, some of that CD space could have been used for a still-picture gallery to supplement the limited color section in the book. Oh, well.

If you're an absolutely dedicated graphics programmer, this may offer a few items of interest. As with other tips'n'tricks books, there is no real progression through the material - it's a grab bag, and you may or may not grab an item that meets your needs.
