Customer Reviews:
Great Medical Drug Reference.......2007-05-21
I love this little book. I think the info is quicker to find than the bulky PDR or using Epocrates on the Palm. Meds are listed a-z and there is a trade name and generic listing index int the back. There are nice features regarding side effects, pregnancy Class , It lists pricing- generic/trade and all the various forms pills, creams, ointments, etc. There are other nice features, bottom line is buy this book, spend less time with the PDR. I would like the see more detail on drug specific side effects like % or numbers rather than a list, some more or less common than others.

Book Description
Every nurse and other health care professionals have "important" reference information that they carry along with them into the clinical setting. This PDA companion software gives rapid access to more than 1,300 generic and 4,500 trade name drugs - all at the tap of a stylus. It contains the same great features to promote safe medication administration and prevention of drug errors, including high alert drugs, "Tall man" spellings for easily confused drug names, specially grouped administration-route considerations, highlighted lifespan considerations, do-not-crush and nursing alert icons, hundreds of special new do-not-confuse headings, and overdose treatment. The PDA software is navigated using the MobiPocket ReaderPro, making it virtually platform-independent. The ReaderPro is small enough that it will not slow down even older devices, and it offers many useful built-in features, including full text search, annotation and highlighting capability.
Customer Reviews:
Unsable CD and worse tech assistance.......2005-08-30
The CD included with the 2005 guide is not compatable with all computers, no matter how new the computer is and the tech assistance number included is totally useless.
Save your money if you are planning on using the CD because it may not work in your computer (no matter how new it is) and the tech support line they say will be able to help is most kind but still clueless.
Bottom line is the CD is flawed and not usable.
Purchase with caution.......2005-05-21
I called Elsevier to make some inquires about the downloadable software. Listed below are the questions and answers I received from their customer service department.
Q: Do you have a trial?
A: No
Q: Do you have screenshots or online preview of product?
A: No
Q: Do you give refunds if the purchaser is not satisfied with the product?
A: No
Q: Can you answer specific questions about product features?
A: No
Despite the answers I received I purchased the product anyway, and was unable to install it. Tech support gave me no useful assistance. I am waiting on them to give me a refund.
I urge caution purchasing this product.
You Need PDA Drug Guide: This One's Not the Best.......2005-01-30
How many errors could be alleviated if more nurses looked up their meds?! However, since on most units, medbooks are only available in the medroom and a medbook is too bulky to carry in most cases, the sad fact is that meds are not looked up. My first PDA drug guide was Mosby's, which I have had for over a year; I now also own Davis's. I cannot tell you how many nurses have asked me to quickly look up their meds to see check on dosages, adverse reactions, or nursing considerations. More than one time the meds have been held or orders questioned as a result, but had I not been in the room, the med likely would have been given. How nice it is to have an entire med book electronically available in your pocket, searchable by both generic and brand names (no more flipping through indexes trying to find the generic name), always accessible.
So now you are convinced of the necessity of owning a PDA drug guide, but which one should you buy. Like I said, I have owned Mosby's drug guide for over a year and have just recently purchased Davis. I have found Davis' drug guide to be more thorough. Davis is also easier to navigate. Both Davis and Mosby have drop-down menus to quickly jump to the desired section of the med-entry (i.e. mechanism of action, adverse reactions/side effects, compatibility, nursing considerations, client education, etc); however since Davis has the content divided into more subsections, it is quicker to navigate to the desired content. So, my personal choice is Davis, however I do not think you would be amiss to purchase either of these. I only encourage you to move out of the hard-copy med-book and to the PDA version.
You may also like to know that you can integrate many other helpful resources such as lab value guides (included in Medical-Surgical Nursing Clinical Companion, ISBN 0323031994), medical dictionaries (Like Taber's, ISBN 080361408X), and more. I hope that more nurses are walking around with entire reference libraries in their pockets resulting in better practice, improved patient outcomes, and reduced errors.
________
Note: Here was my first review of this product. I had to eventually contact Elsevier and request that they give me a new serial number. Apparently a large batch of cds were shipped to Amazon with incorrect serial numbers. So if you got a bad batch, Mobipocket will not be able to help you, you have to go through Elsevier. Good luck. I would recommend that you not buy this cd and go ahead and get Davis's. The one-star rating is left-over from when I wrote the original review.
I purchased Mosby's 2005 Nursing Drug Reference for PDA by Skidmore-Roth over three months ago from Amazon and have not been able to get it installed. The problem lies in the activation process for the title which utilizes Mobipocket Reader Pro. When I go to enter my serial number, Mobipocket tells me that my product has already been activated by somebody else (not true).
The above experience can occassionally happen in the use of activation of software and ebooks, an understandable glitch in a manufacturer's system. That is not the problem. The problem is that the vendor does not provide any way to contact technical support other than an online form to which I have been unable to receive any response.
If I do receive a response, I will return to this review and edit it accordingly, but as of this time, it appears that a potentially extremely useful product has been rendered useless by an incompetant company: Mobipocket.
I hope this helps.

CD-Rom.......2005-10-03
I was very dissapointed to receive a CD I could't use. From the description I though it was a standard CD for desktops, I didn't even know what PDA stood for. Thus the main reason I ordered was defeated because I wanted a drug checker for my computer.

Book Description
Internationalism is generally considered to be a major feature of the labour movement, and to hold a far more powerful appeal for workers' organizations than national identity. However, this revisionist book argues that, in fact, it is the national dimension which is of utmost importance to workers' organizations, and that national questions have often compelled workers to engage in struggles on different levels. Through detailed case studies of trade union involvement in Northern Ireland, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Austria and Europe generally, contributors tackle subjects long neglected by labour historians and overturn the accepted wisdom that nationalism and the labour movement are irreconcilably opposed. This analysis of how international agendas are influenced by nationalist politics is unique, and the case-studies offer a dynamic description of the different ways in which nationalist values meet with trade union ideas and practices.
The high standard of scholarship and the combination of historical and contemporary material make this book essential reading for students and researchers of labour history, politics, political theory and area studies.

Customer Reviews:
Beware - this is not the tab edition!.......2007-06-12
Despite what you may think from reading the other reviews, this edition does not include guitar tablature. The one that does has the same cover as this, but has a different ISBN.
Very accurate, but bad tab.......2003-08-18
The transcriptions in this book are 100% dead on, they play exactly like the CD, which is great if thats what you are looking for. However, they have one huge flaw in them.
Many of the songs use a capo. The tab has the chords in both the key you are playing in, and the relative capo key, which is great. However, the tab is written as if you do not have a capo.
For example, the first chord in "youve got a friend" is an A, but because of the capo at the second fret, you play a G. This would normally give you tab that had a 3 on the lowest string, to play the G note, however, you are really on the 5th fret because of the capo. The tab has a 5, instead of the more intuitive 3. This makes it very difficult to play, because you have to constantly transpose the notes as you are playing.
James Taylor's Greatest Hits.......2000-07-14
This book of sheet music is ideal for the acoustic guitar player who wants to learn more about the "James Taylor Style" of playing.
Taylor uses many guitar chords in his songs that are not normally seen by the everage guitar player. Every song in this collection of his early hits has specific chord diagrams to help you through the difficult learning process.
I have gotten many hours of pure enjoyment from this book and anticipate many years of the same.
If you are a James Taylor fan, this is a "must buy." You will not regret it!

Read Paul Mazurky's Book Instead.......1999-07-09
Some of the other reviews posted very deftly critiqued the weaknesses of this book. I felt it was just poorly written and very much a first draft filled with surface anecdotes. Here is someone who had this amazing vantage point and the information he chooses to share with us seemed downright silly.
Whatever...it did have its good parts. But few.
I must tell you though...the feeling I walked away with after reading this book was pity. I felt sorry for him. He has almost no close interpersonal relationships with other human beings.
Yes, he got to be present at the dawn of the TV sitcom era and contribute to it, but at the price of maturing developmentally as a human being. Decades of a workaholic pace has left him with a killer reel and many award statuettes but no intimate connections with people.
The Mazursky book (Show Me The Magic) is warm, introspective, captivating, and revealing and offers much insight into Hollywood and the directorial process.
A bit disappointing..........1999-06-30
After hearing Rafkin on the Howard Stern Show I expected much more from this book. He was very funny and forthcoming in his interview with Stern, but it seemed like every interesting anecdote from the book was mentioned in the interview in full detail. He also jumps around too much - the way he goes back and forth in time is very confusing, even irritating. Overall, I would have to say that there was a lot of potential and very little is delivered.
This book comes up short on "Tales".......1999-04-20
Rafkin has the ability and experience to write a totally interesting and DETAILED book about the shows and stars he has directed, as well as the producers. We get a few sprinkled examples of stars who are "professional", trouble, or drug users, but little else. Specific anectdotes about the stars and shows he has been associated with could probably flow from this man without end. However, he offers teasers [of already well known anectdotes], personal philosophical observations, and too few first hand accounts about some stars and shows, and leaves one wanting. Rafkin does give some details regarding revenge in tinsel town, and it would appear this is why he soooooo stingy in details about the dozens of stars, producers, and shows he has been associated with. While Rafkin claims that he practically lived with these stars and shows while directing, his book offers few intimate details of the good, the bad, and the ugly, and I suspect that he is withholding much about powerful stars and producers. I should hope that Rafkin will really spill the beans when he decides he is truly out of the business. It is worth reading only because it is as close as we might presently get past the facade of our TV set.
Some juicy tidbits, but as a whole it's a tad uneven........1999-04-12
I heard about this book on the Howard Stern show, and Alan Rafkin's candidness made me want to read the book. While there are some entertaining anecdotes, overall it's a collection of "he's nice/she's not" stories, pieced together with tales of his personal life. He's an interesting person, but I wish he would pick one subject and stick with it; Celebrity gossip or his three marriages.
Alan Rafkin's a Stud!.......1999-03-09
I read Alan Rafkin's book after hearing his hilarious interview on the Howard Stern Show. Alan has lead a fascinating life that makes for great reading. The only other title that I've found as entertaining is Getting To Howard: The Odyssey of an Obsessed Howard Stern Fan by Dan Wagner. Too bad Alan never made it with Barbara Eden. Now that would've made one heck of a chapter! Oofah!
Book Description
This exam measures the ability to design, write, and understand programs written in language version 1.4 of the Java 2 Platform. The programmer's exam concentrates on the language basics. This book is not intended to teach new material. Instead it assumes that you have a solid foundation of knowledge but can use a refresher on important concepts as well as a guide to exam topics and objectives. This book focuses exactly on what you need to pass the exam - it features test-taking strategies, time-saving study tips, and a special Cram Sheet that includes tips, acronyms, and memory joggers not available anywhere else. The series is supported online at several Web sites: examcram.com, informit.com, and cramsession.com.
The accompanying CD features PrepLogic™ Practice Tests, Preview Edition. This product includes one complete PrepLogic Practice Test with approximately the same number of questions found on the actual vendor exam. Each question contains full, detailed explanations of the correct and incorrect answers. The engine offers two study modes, Practice Test and Flash Review, full exam customization, and a detailed score report.

Not bad, but can't stand on its own........2005-12-21
This can be a good supplement to "Sun Certified Programmer & Developer for Java 2" by Sierra and Bates.
Too many typos.......2005-04-07
Too many typos in the practice exams (such as the upper-case 'I' in question 15 of Exam 1) make this a risky choice for the exam. You certainly don't need confusion when trying to study for this exam. The content is good though and it seems to targetthe necessary concepts.
Waste of Time and Money.......2004-09-13
This is the worst certification book ever written. When I read the book, I did not feel confident that these were the actual questions that I would see on the exam. I also did not learn anything from the book. I stopped reading this book, and went on to read Kathy Sierra and Bert Bates' Java 2 Certification book. That is much, much better, and it is written by the exam writers themselves. The questions are more like what is on the exam, and I am actually learning Java concepts that I never knew. The cram exam book is a waste of money, and more importantly, a waste of time.
Pick it Up.......2003-11-04
This was not my primary study guide as I highly recommend the Sierra title, but it is a solid effort. The questions and practice exams are well worth it and it is concise. Some in depth explanations are lacking, and if you are trying to understand polymorphism and casting, you should augment what you read here. I think it is always good to have a couple of books when going for certification because each book may stress or explain something different. Many times, that gives you a three dimensional look at material that begins to really make sense. If you have a study guide already, pick this one up as well. It is compact and loaded with information and practice questions that are of excellent quality. I passed using this and the Sierra book primarily and can only recommend it.
Missing some things.......2003-09-23
I would not rely exclusively on this book to get you through the Java exam unless you have some significant practical experience with Java to cover the stuff you won't find here.
There are some things missing in this book...simple stuff even like anonymous array creation. And everything else, as the title says, is crammed: about 10 pages per topic. Annoyingly however there is some stuff in this book that isn't in the exam objectives: eg. static intialization blocks...
I found the tests in the book were somewhat misleading of my current knowledge: they are fairly easy, so they flatter to deceive to a certain extent. ALso of annoyance are the topic tests at the end of each chapter: these are quite good in themselves, but each one has the answer straight after it. SO it's hard to avoid seeing it and the remedy: using a peice of paper to cover it and another the page next to it so you can't see and memorize the answer to the questions over there is a little demeaning. Seriously...it shows poor oversight and miserliness...what's a couple of more pages and put the answers in one section at the end of each chapter? A small gripe but nonetheless an important one.
The CD contains an exam where some of the questions cover material that isn't in the exam objectives: I hit one question on Iterator Methods! This is absurd!
I recommend Kathy Sierra's Book (she helped create the test!) instead of this and also reading the Java Language Specification to find out all the rules, nuances and quirky behavior that makes Java the language we all love- and love to hate because of this Exam (but what's life without a challenge?)
Also: to these people who like to post their test scores as vindication of a book: why do this? Firslty anybody cna make up a number or lie about having done the test. Secondly, god knows how much of your life you've spent on Java. So unless you give a fair assessment of your knowledge --book and then book++ it really doesn't mean much....just a thought.
