Riven was a super challenge and I hate cheating. This book was so awesome because it gave you ONLY the help you wanted when(if) you get to the point that you get really stuck. It is well divided so you don't see clues/info that would give away something that you didn't want to know. These people should get hired to write solution books for all the top games!It keeps you from being tempted to cheat because it is so well written & laid out. A true asset to the game of Riven! Honest!!

I liked the pictures and the walkthrough and all the other things in the game, but in some real important places it "failed me". I couldn't understand how it meant to enter the number into the domes or the star fissure portal and had to figure it out myself.

I liked the format of the book, with different chapters that gave either subtle hints or full solutions. It says right at the beginning of a chapter what type of hints are in the chapter. The only chapter I was dissapointed in was the "Journal" walkthrough chapter. In the Myst Strategy Guide, it had headings over each section, so if you only wanted help on a certain puzzle, it was easy to get it. The Riven book doesn't have headings, so when you glance through, looking for the right place, you see the solutions to other puzzles you don't want help on. Other than this, it's a great book.

Pratt took his many years of valuation experience and put it in this one book. The book reviews the theory and practice of how to derive a discount rate for use in a DCF. At present, it's the best book in print for appraisers.

The valuation profession has exploded among CPAs, CBAs and others who attend a few seminars and then undertake to do this complicated work. Many end up doing a shabby job, because they do not understand basic concepts of cost of capital. The understanding of aspiring business appraisers will grow from reading this book, as (I believe) mine did.

This book is NOT written by an academician (although I think I recall that Shannon has a PhD in finance). A fair example of an academician's work, reflecting a different approach and serving different needs, is Bradford Cornell's fine work on the equity risk premium.

Pratt has authored several classic books on business valuation. He has valued thousands and testified in US Tax Court, state courts and federal courts across the country. He continues to speak to business appraisers across the country. This book summarizes issues he knows need to be better understood by those of us who consult with closely held businesses.

This is a short book and an easy read, but packed with good information for those who want to better understand the cost of capital in the context of valuing small businesses.

101 Fudge Factors For Those Ignorant of Risk Neutral Pricing.......1999-05-30

This book should be titled "I do not know how to price all risks when valuing companies so here are 101 fudge factor guesses I use instead". This is the wrong way to value companies and is inconsistent with financial asset pricing theory. Look elsewhere for better resources.

I really liked the way the author gives an overview and then discusses in detail all the different aspects of incidents. This book is not really for physicians, but I appreciated the practical aspects of the content and think families that have been affected by an incident would benefit from reading it.

"The Heart Attack Germ" packs a wealth of information into its pages. I'd read a little about the idea that infection causes (or at least may contribute to) heart disease, but I couldn't find a book on the topic until I came across this one. The authors tell you everything you need to know about this new theory and the research data that support it. There's also a detailed section on exactly what your doctor is looking for during an office visit - all those mysterious things like patting your back and telling you to cough are explained in detail. The book is well-written, in a breezy, conversational style with a sense of humor. If you want to know more about this emerging new view of heart disease and what it may mean for you, I recommend "The Heart Attack Germ."

When you're ten years out of school, and you still reach for a book you used in college, you know its valuable. I reach for Bube as a refresher very frequently. Its not flowery, but it has just enough figures and just enough math and explanation to cover most electronic phenomena. Photoemission, field emission, photoelectric effects, schottky barriers, etc. are covered well enough so that you can tackle a calculation of a particular phenomenon when necessary.

This book is a good place to go for explanations when you get lost in the muck of proofs. If you expect it to be rigorous, of course you will be disappointed. The synopses say it is for people who have never been through these topics before. This book is invaluable when you are going through notes and derivations and forget what the heck assumptions were made and what you're trying to get to. The beauty of it is that it isn't weighed down by too much information. It gives a good overview of exactly what it says: Electrons in Solids.

A pretty crummy book for the price. It's pretty short, the explanations aren't very good, and I don't particularly like the chosen topics either. You'd be better off with Kittel, and Kittel is a terrible book. I've read this, Kittel, Omar, Ashcroft+Mermin, and Burns, and this is the worst. It doesn't tell you enough to build a foundation for anything and I didn't find a single person in my class of 12 or so who liked this book. How bad is this book? I had to write my own table of physical constants on the inside cover because this book doesn't have them. I'd buy Omar instead, followed by Kittel, followed by anything else but Bube.

I went thru a really tuff breakup and I had so many questions, but mostly WHY ME and HOW DARE HE? This book was really great in making me feel like the the pain of relationships is common, expected and that I am not the only one going thru these tons of negative feelings that pop up when you feel rejected and left behind. Relationships fail, thats life and this is a great book that shouts truth and gives you a good laugh when you need it most. You may not want to hear everthing the authors write about but there is so much truth in their words. Its a fresh take on all the other other books that make you feel that all love works, sometimes love isn't really love and they address that. Good Show!!!!

I recently bought this book along with 4 others about break-ups. The positive reviews make me think I would get a good laugh out of it. It's TERRIBLE. The entire book is about how much relationships suck, what a waste of time they are, and how they are doomed from before they start. There was nothing remotely helpful or funny about this book. I actually found myself skipping entire pages because it was so negative. The last thing I needed while going through this break up was a book promoting bitterness. If you weren't depressed before you read this, you will be before you finish it (if you can finish it.) Look elsewhere if you want to actually get any benefit. "It's Called a Break-Up Because It's Broken" by Behrendt & Ruotola-Behrendt has been a good one for me. It's a little silly, but mixed with the occasional cheesy nick-name are valid points and a real plan for healing.

I am going through a tough separation and this book has been fantastic in helping me laugh through the pain and heartbreak. (Sometimes out loud and in public) Despite the overall message that we are all doomed to fail in love and relationships, I still adore this book- it appeals to the sarcastic side of me.
