Good Real Life Examples But With A Lot of Redundancy.......2007-10-15

Having a parent with BPD, it was comforting to read the stories of other children and parents coping with similar issues in the examples offered by the authors. However, I found the authors efforts to analyze these real world examples to be overly simplistic. I would still recommend this book to others who have family members with BPD, because of the isolating nature of this disorder.

How to Live With a Borderline Without Going Crazy.......2007-10-06

As a Clinical Psychologist who works with BPD (and lived with one) I don't know of another book that is more helpful to the spouse or family of someone with Borderline Personality Disorder. It provides both reassurance (that they are not "making it all up") and helpful guidance for how to best handle their Borderline loved one, most notably the importance of "mirroring" unacceptable behavior and limit setting, while reminding them of the BPD's constant never-ending need for their own reassurance. For torn between the deepest fears of abandonment and of being controlled, BPD's are perpetual tornadoes of emotion without the ability to regulate it. So while this book isn't as helpful as others regarding the psychotherapy BPD's need (cf. psychodynamic or dialetical behavior therapy), it is the best one available to help families deal with their loved one's inability to handle strong negative emotion and their marked swings between extreme passion and semi-psychotic distortions, the most notable being the accusations that they are "controlling" the BPD loved one. The only thing I would have added would be an index, though I use the book so much I ended up making my own.

Eggshells is a great book plus another recommendation.......2007-10-01

Eggshells is a great book. It is full of helpful advice when you have a friend that suffers from BPD. It helps a layman understand the disorder and ways to protect yourself from the emotional demands of someone with BPD. It helped me a great deal understand not only the condition of BPD but also how caring for someone with BPD effected me in regards to my emotional health. Eggshells further gives assistance in recognizing certain red flags when a person with BPD is breaking down your boundaries and emotionally sucking you into their world. The book is very sympathetic to the reader and gives a very understanding view to the person that suffers from BPD. It is a one of the foundation books referred by therapist to assist people with weak boundaries or someone trying to deal with a friend that suffers from BPD. I wholeheartedly recommend the book and suggest keeping it close by as you will refer to it often.
Another book about BPD I would strongly recommend is One Way Ticket To Kansas: Caring About Someone With Borderline Personality Disorder And Finding A Healthy You. This book presents a more personal view as it addresses the emotional impact of BPD on the partner (spouse, romantic relationship, significant other). It includes the diagnosis criteria in easy to understand terms, ways to rebuild your self esteem, and gives a very touching personal story of the author that describes the impact and disorder progression of having a wife diagnosed with BPD.
In a book market with very few helpful books to explain BPD and its impact in laymans terms, these two books stand above the rest. I strongly recommend picking up copies of Stop Walking on Eggshells and One Way Ticket and keeping them close. You will find youself referring to them often for validation and advice. You may also want to look into some online support groups for people effected by having a loved one diagnosed or suspected to have BPD. Godspeed, keep you head up, and know that you will be strong enough to make the right decisions for yourself.

When I paid £11 for this book I thought I would only get £11 worth of information...now that I have finished the book I think I was correct.

This book seems to have been put together by some one with no first hand knowledge, infact 3rd hand. Every topic is covered in an overview with no specific details, names of brands, costs, etc...which is the main reason most people buy this book. I believe this book could have been better if some one googled and compiled all the information.

Ok, If just half the clubs in this town were to read this book, they would probably stay in business longer than a year. This book is very well thought out and covers alot of little gotcha's in designing a night club. Gotcha's that in my experience most club owners ignore or don't know about, and then wonder why nobody comes to their clubs.
My only critism is that the author could have explained things further if the book had more pages. He summarizes a ton of infomation well to fit in the books alotted length but really on the business side of things, I suspect he could have filled another book altogether.

This book covered much of the same info as in other start-up books for bars/clubs, but definately points you in the right direction for things to think about and consider in owning or starting a nightclub. Aside from the numerous grammatical errors I am pleased with the book. This book should have been proofed better before publishing, I found an error about ever 10 pages (along with some strange wording). I would like to see a bit more on financial price breakdowns and models along with more info on contacts and ways to go about getting the tools/contacts you need. All-in-all this was good brain food for thought.

Excellent book for anybody who hopes to someday open and run their own nightclub or bar. This book talks about what it takes to open a club and run one. Being a bar owner is not as easy as it seems and this one tells you what you need to know. The appendix, with many drink recipes at the end of the book was also very helpful and educational about mixing drinks. This is definitately a must read for anyone in the bar business or hoping to get into it.

Another Pabst Blue Ribbon wonder from Buck.......2006-04-16

Under his nom de foundation garment, Ophelia Bernice, Buck "Buck" Peterson reveals all the important stuff necessary to a real redneck wedding. For those who don't know the difference, a redneck owns their own double-wide trailer while white trash are more concerned with finding something to go with the biscuits, like food.
Planning a wedding is serious business when it's your fourth or fifth and the bride is pregnant with someone's baby and the groom is applying to the Witness Protection Program. The chapel needs decorating, the bridal gown has to be let out again, and the parents of the lucky couple must settle any long-standing feud before the first keg is tapped. Ophelia/Buck shows the crooked way to celebrating the sparkling occasion in low class high style, from bridal showers and bachelor parties to the service itself and the post-vow dove shoot, and the wretched hangovers the morning after. HDTV uses the same amount of bandwidth (the size of the communications channel) as the current analog system, but with HDTV, about six times more information is transmitted. This capability translates to much better quality in picture and sound. HDTV is the highest quality of DTV, but it is only one of many formats. In addition to HDTV, the most common formats are Standard Definition Television (SDTV) and Enhanced Definition Television (EDTV). SDTV is the baseline display and resolution for both analog and digital. Transmission of SDTV may be in either the traditional (4:3) or wide-screen (16:9) format. EDTV is a step up from Analog Television. EDTV comes in widescreen (16:9) or traditional (4:3) format and provides better picture quality than SDTV, but not as high as HDTV. DTV is a more flexible and efficient technology than the current analog system. DTV can provide interactive video and data services that are not possible with "analog" technology. Converting to DTV will also free up parts of the scarce and valuable broadcast airwaves. Those portions of the airwaves can then be used for other important services, such as advanced wireless and public safety services (for example, police, fire departments, and rescue squads).

I have several books of 3ds Max. This one is easy to follow, and allows you to easily learn the product, step by step.

A whole lot of miniature tutorials.......2007-01-07

This book is full of 1-3 page long tutorials. It has tons of them. That is also the books downfall in my opinion. It explains so many features, but it covers none of them in depth because of the space it gives each part. It just generally brushes on things which deserve much more detail. There really isn't as much practical excercises as I thought would be, it's mostly load the tutorial image off the CD, apply this option, or effect and see doesn't that look great, and now on to the next one. Wash rinse repeat. How you can cover advanced subjects in a handful of pages with quickie mini tutorials is beyond me. I'm glad I got this as a gift as I would have been dissapointed had I sepnt my own money on it.

Excellent Learning Resource.......2006-09-14

I've been teaching 3D Computer Graphics for over 7 years. Just this summer I began teaching 3DS Max. I went out and purchased almost every general book out there on Max. This book was great. Although it won't make a person an expert on Max, nor does it have long tutorials, it is an excellent reference book and a great resource for my students in my introduction to 3D Modeling & Animation course.

I hope this book is successful, because I would love to use it teaching further versions of my course using future releases of Max.

Easy to Find Information.......2006-02-21

Every feature that I wanted to learn about was easy to find and understand. Most tasks are broken down into 2 or 4 pages and every step was outlined clearly. I didn't have to work through and entire chapter just to find the procedure for the task that I was looking for. This book helped me out a lot.
