Book Description
The world's two deadliest spies in the ultimate showdown. At a small-town carnival two men, each mysteriously summoned by telegram, witness a bizarre killing. The telegrams are signed Jason Bourne. Only they know Bourne's true identity and understand the telegram is really a message from Bourne's mortal enemy, Carlos, known also as the Jackal, the world's deadliest and most elusive terrorist. And furthermore, they know that the Jackal wants: a final confrontation with Bourne. Now David Webb, professor of Oriental studies, husband, and father, must do what he hoped he would never have to do again—assume the terrible identity of Jason Bourne. His plan is simple: to infiltrate the politically and economically Medusan group and use himself as bait to lure the cunning Jackal into a deadly trap—a trap from which only one of them will escape.

Customer Reviews:
Worst of the Trilogy.......2007-10-01
Okay, the movies are entirely different from the books. The first book rocked. The second was pretty good. "Ultimatum" is a overwritten waste of time. Bourne makes some pretty stupid mistakes, the plot twists fall on the side of unbelievable, and the dialogue is awful. This hardly seems like the same author.
Not Free SF Reader.......2007-09-03
Carlos the Jackal isn't greedy, he just wants a couple of things before he shuffles off the mortal coil.
Kill Jason Bourne, and blow the you know what out out of the Russian training facility that spawned him, and then disowned him later on.
Bourne and the KGB must work together to play Hunt the Jackal.
Same events could be summarized in 100 pages.......2007-08-24
I can't believe I actually finished this book. It was very repetitive and rather boring, although I would say the last ~50 pages were the most suspenseful. Maybe that's because I knew I was finally at the end of the book and I was excited to get it over with. I kept waiting for it to get better; never did. Plus the overuse of italicized words drove me nuts.
nothing like the movie of the same title -.......2007-08-11
very disappointing. Only the title of the book, was used for the Bourne Ultimatum movie.
The author is NOT Robert Ludlum, although his name is plastered all over the cover for advertising purposes.
The author who does write the book does a terrible job of encapulating technical details. He obviously has not done enough research on the main characters, the technical gadgets and the finer details of the "spy" items in the book. For example, he tries to describe a "drug runner" offshore speedboat, and COMPLETELY misses "the boat" on what the capabilities are, the cost of the boat, and the technical aspects of it.
It is obvious the author of this novel sits behind a chair and lives out his life through his TV set and picture books.
Saw the Movie First.......2007-08-11
Read about 100 pages and understand completely why the writers of the movies wanted no parts of this book. Currently I am on page 500. This book is better than Ambien and Lunesta combined.
I agree with some of the other comments here, I seriously doubt he wrote this one having read some of his earlier work.
Please 1 cent is not worth it unless they paid you to ship it out of their warehouse.
OK so it took me 3 weeks to finish the last 109 pages. This book is about 509 pages too long. You know the end by page 5 and this convoluted novel is so one dimensional I am surprised that it resides in our dimension. GOD AWFUL.

Book Description
THE BOURNE IDENTITY-He is a man with an unknown past and an uncertain future. A man dragged from the sea riddled with bullets, his face altered by plastic surgery-a man bearing the dubious identity of Jason Bourne. Now he is running for his life, the target of professional assassins, at the center of a maddening deadly puzzle. Who is Jason Bourne? To answer that question, he must find the secret buried deep in his own past. And the only one who can help him is a beautiful stranger-the woman who once would do anything to escape him.
THE BOURNE SUPREMECY-The Vice Premier of the People's Republic of China is brutally slain in a Kowloon cabaret, and all the clues point to the legendary assassin, Jason Bourne. But Bourne never existed! The name was created as a cover for ace agent David Webb on his search for the notorious killer Carlos. Now someone else has resurrected the Bourne identity, and Webb is forced to use his murderous skills to stop him. Because once again, like a nightmare relived, the woman he loves is suddenly torn from his life. To find her, to trap his own imposter, Webb must launch a desperate odyssey into the killing fields of international espionage.
THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM-Thirteen years have passed since David Webb was last forced to assume the alias of the assassin Jason Bourne. Thirteen blissfully peaceful years: time enough to raise a family with his wife Marie, time enough to begin to put the violence and betrayal of the past behind him. Now with one phone call Webb is thrust back into the madness. His greatest enemy, Carlos, is hunting again-determined to stalk and eliminate the one man whose reputation as an assassin approaches his own, a determination that promises pain and death for David Webb and those who mean the world to him.

Robert Ludlum Value collection.......2007-08-28
These CD's are great. I have most of Ludlums books but it is nice to be able to listen in the car or at home without having to look for the book.
Book or Movie?.......2007-05-16
Well the book is far superior to the simple plots of the movies. But there is Matt Damon....
This version of the "Bourne Trilogy" gets a lively reading by Darren McGavin. It will keep you at the edge of your seat.
So, for eye candy go see the movies....
For the edge of your seat reading stick with the book.
Good item.......2005-07-06
Shipping was a bit delayed, but item arrived on time for father's day. Good overall--would recommend.
How is it possible to botch a book on tape?.......2005-04-12
I thought it wasn't possible, but Darren McGavin managed it. He mumbles, yes actaully mumbles his way through a performance for which the sole qualification is elocution. I don't care if he played the dad in Billy Madison. This is doubly frustrating, as the volumes are so heavily abridged, that missing a line is like missing 100 pages from the printed work. Oh yeah, and the musical cues dispersed throughout the reading to "heighten the tension" are stupid, just plain dumb.

Book Description
From the time the first tracks were laid in the early nineteenth century, the railroad has occupied a crucial place in America's historical imagination. Now, for the first time, Eric Arnesen gives us an untold piece of that vital American institution--the story of African Americans on the railroad. African Americans have been a part of the railroad from its inception, but today they are largely remembered as Pullman porters and track layers. The real history is far richer, a tale of endless struggle, perseverance, and partial victory. In a sweeping narrative, Arnesen re-creates the heroic efforts by black locomotive firemen, brakemen, porters, dining car waiters, and redcaps to fight a pervasive system of racism and job discrimination fostered by their employers, white co-workers, and the unions that legally represented them even while barring them from membership. Decades before the rise of the modern civil rights movement in the mid-1950s, black railroaders forged their own brand of civil rights activism, organizing their own associations, challenging white trade unions, and pursuing legal redress through state and federal courts. In recapturing black railroaders' voices, aspirations, and challenges, Arnesen helps to recast the history of black protest and American labor in the twentieth century.
Customer Reviews:
Brotherhoods of Color: Removing the Silence.......2001-08-05
The Brotherhoods of Color written by Eric Arnesen is a well documented and historical account of African-American men and women attempts at obtaining social equality and opportunity while constructing and working working on in America's railroads. Arnesen masterfully provides dramactic details of Black railroad workers struggle to change a both the midset of the railroad industry, mangers, and their fellow white workers.
While tempted, the Author limits his judgements and personal perferences about the legal outcomes of the countless legal proceedings to overcome racist practices and obstacles. Instead, he draws the reader into to public policy debates with open ended ideas and powerful suggestions. His analysis of the African-American experiences neither surprising or profound. However, the effort to provide a foundation of truths and facts is achieved.
The reader will be enlightened by such candid facts and news reports from the African-American perspective, obtained from labor newspapers and journals. The Brotherhood of Color is an excellent read and a strong addition to the body of knowledge that is often too silent on the subject matter. The Brothhoods of Color is a Classic.

Description:
This study explored experiences of implementation and operation of hazard analysis critical control points (HACCP) in the foodservice sector through in-depth interviews with seven foodservice outlets in the South East of England. Experiences highlighted a number of barriers to the successful implementation and operation of HACCP, and also perceived benefits. Barriers included difficulties identifying hazards, inadequate knowledge, time-related issues relating to monitoring and recording, excessive documentation, convincing staff of the importance of the system, and increased costs. Perceived benefits included protecting the business from otherwise unforeseen problems and providing evidence of 'due diligence'. There was, however, an attitude of compliance, rather than true recognition of the value of the system.

Bill Clinton...Trent Loff...Claudia Schiffer...Dr. Atkins...Kerry Strug...Beastie Boys and many more. If these well known personalities knew the world was ending tomorrow, what would be their last supper? Their meals to die for range from a Texas BBQ to a 12-course meal at a four-star restaurant.
Customer Reviews:
Latest last supper.......2003-12-23
During the holiday season, and even beyond, we all ask, "what shall I give?" and "what shall I eat?" and a few more are asking, "I wonder what James Dean would eat."
Certainly the first two, maybe the third, are burning issues at the moment, but all three questions can be answered with Last Suppers: If the World Ended Tomorrow, What Would Be Your Last Meal?
Good question and I, personally, don't have an answer yet (maybe by the end of this review). The author poses this question to 7 different groups of famous people. Film and Television people, such as Dick Clark and Vanna White; Music people such as Paul Anka and Dr. John; Arts and Letters folk such as Carl Reiner and Joe Eszterhas; Sportsmen such as Mike Ditka and Jack Nicklaus; Chefs, Todd English and Stephan Pyles (an unfortunate name for a chef) and may personal favorite category, the Deceased, where the author 'digs up' what the famous, such as Rosemary Clooney, and the infamous, such as Howard Hughes, last digested, as well as the final eats of the aforementioned James Dean.
I'm not going to tell you what all of these people ate. Some cooperated (Sen. Trent Lott and President Bill Clinton) while others (Hank Williams, Jr., uncharacteristically taking what he perceived to be the moral high ground) didn't. There are also recipes submitted with these Last Suppers as well as possible guest lists.
The author's introduction, where he explains his modus operandi, is most amusing. My two favorite entries are the Steve McQueen last meal one and the last meal of "the Iceman" and no, I don't mean soul singer Jerry Butler. We're talking about the 5,000 year old mummified corpse found frozen in the Alps about 12 years ago. This one features a great picture of the Iceman who looks like we all feel after the holidays are over.
Hmmm. I think I'll have the shrimp -- and if you read the forward, you will find the significance of that.
A fun read.
THIS BOOK OUTDOES THE ORIGINAL.......2003-11-27
I purchased the original edition back in 1999 and bought this one out of curiosity. I liked the first edition, but I LOVE this new edition. It has new recipes, new celebrities and great new stories. I especially like the recipes in the section about politics, and the stories about the deceased celebrities are fantastic. And the writing is just super.
great.......2001-05-03
Good book, many new idea's for me. I recently head James was trying to do a book on Natalie Portman. I read an email asking if he could question some ppl who went to school with her. Maybe he wants to get together for dinner.
Everyone loves an original.......2000-10-06
Dickerson comes up with yet another simple idea and makes it great. I was surprised at how many celebs responded to his query and delighted at the large photos. Worth the $$, especially for that person who is impossible to buy for. Hey, Mr. Dickerson, now can we have a book about Last Words?
Not enough "last suppers" for the price!.......1999-07-24
I was surprised how at how few celebrities were actually interviewed for this book. There was too much space wasted on one-page photographs of the celebrity, along with "biographies" of each celebrity. More time should have been spent asking why each celebrity selected the meal they did, and they should have included a lot more people! The most interesting part were the last meals of deceased celebrities.

What a great gift--for one's own nosalgic journey and for anyone else who will want to have a keepsake of the times and tides of our nation's preoccupations, whether with celebrities, politicians, sports figures, important 'voices' of inspiration. The pictures are captivating; the joy is infectious. It speaks volumes about how and why Oprah has led the way for a nation's curiosity and insight. It reminds us of all of the friends we've made as Oprah introduced us to who was 'happening' and how we came to open our world to all of them. Important !!
