Must Read!.......2007-10-20

I only wish I had found this book 15 years ago, since I believe it would have made a profound difference in many life choices and actions and I have made through-out the years. The perspective I've gained is immense, and I think back on my life, I understand how much I contributed to many negative situations and how simple it would have been to change or stop the downward negative spiral. In addition, it provides concrete information on how to 'stop the dance', even if your part is only a small fraction of the problem. The author recommends you read this book several times, so many of our behaviors are so ingrained that I believe this is really a good idea. I have told my family and friends (many of who do not enjoy reading): " If you only read one self-help book - This is the one to read!" Overall, it will make you more aware of when you are entering and/or maintaining a negative situation, so it offers insight on how to handle all sorts of relationships from family to friends and acquaintances or co-workers.

Put More 'I' in Your Life.......2007-10-08

When I read a book that inspires me, I mark the pages that I want to go back and study again. Of the 232 pages in 'The Dance of Anger', I turned down over 50 corners.
My first reading was in 1989, and I still go back and find reasons why this book made such an impact on my life. The biggest lesson was to put more 'I' in my life. Then, to remember, that I have a right to my thoughts and feelings; that no one else will take responsibility for me; that I cannot change other people; and, that the only person I have power over is myself.
The 'Dance' has to do with becoming your own person without losing others. 'Anger' is a tool for managing our relationships and helping us become our best.
I have recommended this book to many friends who are angry - at themselves, at their partners, at their families, at their employers - and, who have expressed a desire to improve their lives.
The book offers many excellent suggestions such as 'The Plan for Reshaping': think about your problem; seek temporary distance from it; don't place blame, be vague, or tell others how to feel; appreciate everyone's differences; speak up for yourself; and, use 'I'.
Take the challenge. Read the book. Become your own person.

For Once a Useful Self-Help Book!.......2007-10-07

I bought this book on a recommendation by a psychologist I was going to for help in my marriage. After I bought it I read it so throughly that I used a yellow highlighter to mark pertinent parts that really applied to the status quo of not only my husband, but my parents and the ways the under-functioning / over-functioning dynamics worked in various relationships.

In fact, after having this book as a tool to apply to my life, I didn't need to see the therapist anymore- the book gave me more direction than therapy did!

I told my fellow co-workers (mostly female) about this amazing book, and lent it to one, who then passed it on to another, and so on and so forth. When I got the book back afterwards, I was interested to find out that each one had used their own highlighter (in a different color). The book was a rainbow of colors from all the different passages that stood out as they pertained to each one.

I always point people I know to this book. No matter that everyone has different issues, this book can help clarify those persistent problems that never seem to get resolved no matter how hard you try.

I have read Ms. Lerner's other books, and although they are good, they don't really hit the nail on the head like this one did.

Most club DJs think they know everything, but in the real world, there is so much more to being a successful DJ than mixing records. Mr. Fresh goes into the all-important background information that club DJs need to graduate from those $5 an hour jobs to the big-time real clubs. I laughed and laughed at the author's wild style of writing too. If you are serious about your club career, get this book!

I'd been djing for about a month when i got this book, and was extremely dissapointed with it. There was not much in this book that i hadn't found before in various web sites around the web. The style of the book is dissapointing, and I felt that i was perhaps not the audience Chuck was writing for, yet i got it to find out how to get a break in the dj business. Two reasons for buying this book could be: a) you want to know the very beginnings of djing, b) you need to teach your girlfriend/friends the basics so they understand what YOU do.

But this book was so much more - it showed me how real Djs can be successful in the real club and bar Dj business! The child of a small coup rather than an extension of popular will, the Soviet State was intrinsically insecure, its leaders ever fearful of internal and external threats. They did not feel that their regime would be safe until the revolution triumphed abroad, convinced that the outside world
was implacably hostile. None felt this more strongly than Stalin. Indeed, as eminent historian of the Soviet Union Vojtech Mastny argues, it was Stalin's insatiable craving for security, more than anything else, that was the root cause of East-West tensions and the Cold War.
In The Cold War and Soviet Insecurity, the long-awaited sequel to his acclaimed work, Russia's Road to the Cold War, Mastny offers a masterful history of the birth of the Cold War, drawing on extensive research in newly opened Soviet archives. Here Stalin takes center stage during the critical

Thanks to the peaceful resolution of the Cold War, massive archives of Soviet material have become accessible to the serious historian. One of which is the author. He takes us into the Soviet Union and the heart of the Kremlin, in the early years of the Cold War, till Stalin's death.

If you are conversant with Cold War from the American vantage (perhaps you lived through it?), then the book can be gripping reading. A parallel universe, from the Kremlin looking out and perceiving a hostile world. To be sure, given the searing Soviet experience during World War 2, a certain level of paranoia might be expected and justified.

The events Mastny described, pulled from Soviet documents, outline a weird worldview. It was on this basis that Stalin acted as he did, during the Berlin blockade and the Korean War. American historians have at times criticised Truman and Eisenhower for some of their actions, based on these presidents' imperfect knowledge of world events. This book tells that the other side suffered from far worse distortions.

Half-hearted guide that fails to ignite the imagination.......1999-08-10

For a series that lasted only 13 hours, perhaps this show doesn't really warrant a book of its own. The fact that the vast majority of its text consists of a tortuously long episode guide probably proves that point beyond argument.

If you are looking for pretty pictures and some lightweight trivia you will probably be quite happy: if you are looking for anything more you'll doubtless be disappointed.

The behind-the-scenes text lacks any engaging qualities, coming across as a bland recital of facts and figures, with little insight offered as to the creative processes behind the show. Similarly, creator Dan Curtis' foreword reads as a hasty assembly of pre-used soundbites, giving no real information beyond disposable surface comments.

Ultimately, people read these sorts of books to gain insight into what being a part of a show was really like, yet what emerges is a book which firmly places the reader outside of the events, in this case not helped by a text overladen with overbearing reverence for its subject, with the continual intrusion of the author's portentious "dream that would not die" mantra.

In an average instance, this book would but a wasted opportunity, but coming from an author who worked on the show and had access throughout, it is a huge disappointment.
