The book will interest scientists, regulatory decision-makers and public health professionals who have worked or plan to work in Central Asia. It is also of interest to firms whose products or services are useful in the public health, water purification, water distribution and environmental consulting fields.
Book Description
In her first picture book, America’s beloved storyteller Kate DiCamillo
reunites with Bagram Ibatoulline to offer readers an unforgettable holiday gift.
It is just before Christmas when an organ grinder and monkey appear on
the street corner outside Frances’s apartment. Frances can see them from
her window and, sometimes, when it’s quiet, she can hear their music. In fact, Frances can’t stop thinking about them, especially after she sees the man and his monkey sleeping outside on the cold street at midnight. When the day of the Christmas pageant arrives, and it’s Frances’s turn to
speak, everyone waits silently. But all Frances can think about is the organ grinder’s sad eyes — until, just in time, she finds the perfect words to
share. Newbery Medalist Kate DiCamillo pairs once again with acclaimed
artist Bagram Ibatoulline as she presents a timeless story of compassion
and joy.

Book Description
Bill Fitzhugh strikes again! Following his widely acclaimed debut novel,
Pest Control (The
[London] Times called it "one of the funniest, most off-beat thrillers in years"), Fitzhugh turns his satirical eye to the merging of medical science and big business -- with hilarious and outrageous results.
Paul Symon is an environmentalist who's out to make the world a better place, but he faces too much disjointed information, public apathy, and self-serving talk. Not to mention greedy despoiler Jerry Landis, a venture capitalist dying of a rare disease that accelerates the aging process.
Landis cares only about making more money and finding a way to arrest his medical condition. That brings him and his fortune to the wild frontier of biotechnology, where his people are illegally experimenting with cross-species organ transplantation in California while breeding genetically altered primates at a secret site in the piney woods of south-central Mississippi.
There's also an eco-terrorist on the loose, bent on teaching hard lessons to people who think the Earth and its creatures are theirs to destroy. These forces, together with fifty thousand extra-large chacma baboons, collide in an explosion of laughter and wonder that
Bill Fitzhugh's growing league of admirers is coming to recognize as his very own.

I enjoyed this book, and passed it on to my sister who then passed it on to her best friend. Way to go, Bill!

If you can stand warped, sick, and gross humor that is hysterically funny fiction, try some of his books. Incredible imagination and very easy reading. I think there is a serious underlying cause for the basis of his stories.
Going Blind? Get an Eye Transplant So You Can Read This Masterpiece! I Think Arty Still Has One for Sale!.......2006-09-25
Bill Fitzhugh writes another surreal and funny adventure that one you start you won't be able to put down until the final page. The talent of Fitzhugh is apparent by the way he tackles unchartered waters with completely different topics for each novel showing in more ways than one that he knows how to right. This was his second novel written after the masterpiece Pest Control and in Organ Grinders Fitzhugh tackles the world or organ transplants, environmental vandals and unethical medical research companies.
The Organ Grinders has a large selection of surreal and interesting characters who all come together to pull of a sensational story. Such as the dedicated if somewhat wimpy environmentalist and petition circulating Paul Symon whose wife is a bit more into getting her hands dirty. Billionaire successful business man Jerry Landis who couldn't care less about his fellow man or any other creature on the plant for that matter if it gets in the way of his profits. Dr Gibbs who is in the organ redistribution industry but is after an easier way to make a quick buck. Lance Abbott who has dreams of returning to Hollywood but currently has the job of convincing grieving family members to give up the organs of their loved ones. Arty who never wants to work a day in his life and will sell any body part to make a few dollars and Bones his drug taking low IQ trailer park bikie neighbour. Throw in some giant baboons who have learnt how to use a rifle and you are going to forget about work, TV and anything else until you've finished the last page.
The range of topics Fitzhugh has covered with his books to date is nothing short of amazing. His literacy career has covered everything from the country music industry (Fender Benders), to religion and the business world (Cross Dressing) to radio DJ detective novels (Radio Activity & its sequel Highway 61 Resurfaced).
If you've read everything Fitzhugh has written so far but want more surreal humorous adventures check out these authors and some of their masterpieces. Carl Hiaasen (Sick Puppy, Skinny Dip, Lucky You, Stormy Weather, Native Tongue, Strip Tease and Hoot), Dave Barry (Tricky Business) , C.J. Box (Open Season), Max Barry (Syrup, Company man). I have to say though Fitzhugh, as is evident with novels such as this one, is simply the best at this genre!
AFTER YOUR OWN HEART.......2006-08-01
THE ORGAN GRINDERS is vintage Bill Fitzhugh, an overblown, breezy, hilarious, dark treatise on man's cruelty to his environment and to himself. Wickedly funny at times, the novel still has some dark, rather unsettling, vignettes on the organ donor black market and environmental terrorism.
We're introduced to heroic Paul Symon, a strapping handsome young man, who has a personal vendetta against corporate whiz Jerry Landis, a vendetta stemming from Landis' humiliation of Paul as a youngster and the death of Paul's father due to his working environment. Landis is the consummate villain, a man with a rare disease that is aging him at an alarming rate, and propelling Landis to seek the ultimate organ donor in baboons! Peopled with wildly eccentric characters and unlikely scenarios, THE ORGAN GRINDERS manages to hold your interest whether you're sympathies like with the heroes or not. Good entertainment.
Uninspiring.......2006-04-05
I've read a couple other books by Bill's books and always loved them. Great characters, great story line, involved and wonderful. This book was missing all of that - and then some. The main characters are SO uninteresting that I had a hard time continuing to read. I could have cared less if the old billionaire lived or died. Does the married eco-freak couple actually keep the baby ... WHO CARES.
The story revolves around organ transplants, the drive of an old wealthy man to procreate and cure himself, a couple fighting for the rights of the environment, a third world organ thief of a doctor, and a crazy orphan who sells himself for a living. Yes it has promise. No - the story line does not deliver. Please don't buy this book. You'll only be disappointed.

Buttons, Bones, and the Organ-Grinder's Monkey: Tales of Historical Archaeology
by Meg Greene
This book follows contemporary archaeologists in five cases of discovery that have reinterpreted history: the excavation of the French explorer La Salle's ship Belle off the coast of Texas; the reconstruction of life in the Jamestown settlement through its original fort; the battle of the Little Bighorn, where Sioux accounts were at odds with the U.S. Army explanation; the excavation of the slave quarters in Jefferson's Monticello; and the diggings in the Foley Courthouse Square, a New York City immigrant neighborhood over 150 years ago.
What the archaeologists made of what they found in the dirt will give kids a fresh and fun way to understand the importance of history.

Book Description
Plunge into the dark and lucrative international trade of human body organs. Doctor Franklin, a provider of illegal surgical solutions for wealthy clients, invests millions to legitimize his business through stem cell research. His goal is to discover the key to a six-billion-dollar market by creating a genetically altered organ for transplant without any risk of rejection by anyone in need. Dr. Jonathan Demerest, a talented surgeon with no skill for business, is pulled into Franklin's scheme in order to save his career and family from financial ruin. After unspeakable surgeries in Europe and Africa, he walks out, unable to keep his side of the deal. Franklin presses onward, leaving a trail of murders which will lead the FBI back to Jonathan as the psychotic butcher of adults and children on a global scale. When Demerest's daughter is kidnaped, he discovers that Franklin not only set him up, but used his little girl as the final subject in an ultimate experiment. She had become the living vessel which carries the genetic gems of Franklin's quest. As Jonathan Demerest attempts to trap Franklin and free his child, the Organ Grinder takes the reader on a frightening ride along the cutting edge of the bio-tech revolution.
Customer Reviews:
BEST BOOK IN LONG TIME.......2006-04-15
I was introduced to this book by a friend in our book club. The next day I hated her because I could not put it down and lost hours of sleep time. Since then all 18 of our club members have read it. Everyone agrees, this author knows how to pull you in and not let go. We were all thrilled by the experience and would reccommend it to anyone looking for something new and engrossing. Especially if you are a parent.
Watch out Patricia Cornwell there is a new thriller writer creeping up on you!.......2006-01-25
I am an avid reader who loves a good mystery and thriller. I found one in Mr Innocenti's first novel Organ Grinder. It kept me on the edge of my seat and made me want to continue to read until I finished this book. Now I can not wait for him to write another novel. In the same was as Cornwell spins a gruesome spellbinding tale, I was constanly waiting to find out what would happen next to his characters. The author was obviously knowledgeable in both the medical field and traveling abroad. Our book club just finished the book, and we all ended questioning just how far would you go to save your child? A must read for anyone wanting a good mystery!
